D’aww, she’s still being nice and kind of into him. Woot.
“I AM RUNNING FOR VICE PRESIDENT”
I am Amazi-Girl!
It’s bigger on the inside!
I’m a man dressed like a bat.
If I am a man then I’m a bat of a man.
So you are a man who likes to bat off? 😀
And it’s going, going, gone! That pun is out of here!
It had to go somewhere. 😀
It went into your mom. For a nickel.
Bruce Wayne did it for a nickel? But he is a multi-billionare.
*sigh* … Its a home pun…
Now I imagine Bruce leaving somebody’s Mom the giant penny.
I read it “Now I imagine Bruce leaving somebody’s mom the giant penis”
Brain, please don’t go to the gutter mmmkay.
yes please AckAckAck, get your mind out of the gutter….
you’re blocking my light ^_^
your mind did a different person’s mom; IN THE GUTTER!
If Bruce Wayne does it for a nickle … and he’s a multi-billionare … dang … that’s a whole lot of moms.
“Joe is the winner of the pool”
I am the man for whom the bell tolls
No, I’M Spartacus!
I’m Spartacus and so’s my wife!
I am more spartacuser than thou!
“And I’m the Flying Grayson!”
Ah…… Starkid reference…
I mean Bruceman!
“I’m going to chop Joe’s dick off.”
OH NOES, NOT HIS LITTLE JOE!! :p
His little joe is his coffee mug. You’re think of his big joe
You’re getting little Joe and cup of Joe mixed up here.
Why woUld you put a mug in a cup? That makes no sense
This exchange wins all the prizes.
where is Bazooka Joe in all this?
I’m still waiting for Hoss …
Well, I gotta say, that’d probably not do any favors for Walky’s already damaged ego.
But I’m pretty sure she’s about to do him a huge favor.
Mike did your mom a huge favor for a nickel
If he got paid, then it wasn’t a favor.
The favor was that he only charged her a nickle.
Maybe she’ll sweep him under her rug?
with his ‘telescopic brush’.
Swallow his mcnuggets?
give him a blow job (c-c-c-c-c-combo breaker)
WhAt?! No, I was thinking more like he hand feeds her mcnuggets. Circling them around her mouth first.
They lovingly mold the chicken ooze into McNuggets together as Unchained Melody plays in the background.
Joe has a pool full of lesbians. Just like he always dreamed.
Is it next door to the lego penthouse? Because that would be the sweetest neighborhood ever.
Only if it’s adjacent from McAwesome’s
Do you think in this universe there is a much better pizza place across the street from Galasso’s?
probably Awesomehut or Awesomo’s
And let’s see if she can embarrass him any more.
I know, right? No matter what she’s going to say, I feel like it would be less embarrassing for everyone involved to wait until after class. Also, poor Leslie. She’s just trying to teach her gender studies class.
Leslie: Dammit, nothing done in my class, screw it, I will give all of them As. They already earn the drama tag long ago.
Eventually she’ll realize when they all start to glaze over and just start talking about sci-fi
Approximate number of women with names in the original Star Wars: 2. Approximate number of males: 500. I’m sure she could get a whole day of lecture out of it.
Hard to tell with some of those aliens. Also, pretty much everybody who shows up on screen has a name. They just don’t mention most of them. Also, for better or for worse (depending on who you ask) the combat forces in Star Wars are largely gender-segregated, so in a movie about war it’s not all that surprising that the male characters get lead roles and the women don’t.
Did Mon Mothma ever talk to Leia? I don’t think so, also Luke might as well be a woman.
*Dorothy grabs Walky* This is MINE. This is where my children come from.
They’re going to be the laziest kids in the whitehouse!
Well at least they won’t be the laziest man on Mars.
lol, bonus points for reference
To make it perfect she’d have to grab Walky’s crotch.
If only she could find his penis for a nickel at this given moment.
I’m just waiting for the look on Billie’s face.
Billie’s not in that class, is she? Pretty sure she’s not.
Hence the waiting, I would presume.
Joyce is in the class, and the look on her face would be priceless to say the least.
…Of course, that is assuming Dorothy will announce what many would like her to announce. I’m not going to assume that she will, however. The announcement could really be anything.
What does Joyce have to do with the look on Billie’s face?
Didn’t you guys have a meme going about Billie’s face?
You mean Biliie’s FAAAAAAACE?
And to think, we almost didn’t have our daily dose of FAAAAAAACE.
…I’m not going to get my hopes up again until we actually find out what exactly Dorothy will announce.
“I love TACO! I love it so much!”
And then they have sex, the end.
By “they” do you mean Dorothy and the butt taco? Because that would be interesting.
Obviously Ack means everybody in the class.
Except presumably Joyce; her soul would spontaneously combust her body and ascend, then reincarnate as the newly incoming child of one of them.
Of course he does.
I wonder what odds I’d get on Joyce?
I’d put even money on Joyce being motosexual. I saw the googly eyes she was making at Sal’s bike.
Joyce wants to motorboat Sal’s motorbike.
Vroom vroom, baby.
Joyce has had two disastrous romantic entanglements with guys in the past week, and is working on a third with Ethan as we speak.
At this rate Joyce’ll give up on men by the end of her first semester. The Sal will let her brush her hair, and her fate will be sealed.
It’s official…Joyce has had more romantic entanglements throughout the first week of College than I have had through all of college.
Me too. But my single one was *much* more successful.
Or at least it lasted a little longer.
Through all of college? I got yOu beat. She’s had more than I’ve had my whole life
>,> dangit…I meantz high school…I haven’t been to college for long enough for that to be wierd yet.
DON’T DO IT DOROTHY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I have to wonder what you think she’s about to say.
She is gonna tell the class that she and Walky were chillin’ together the night before even though it isn’t any of their business because he feels upset that no one knows about the connection they had.
Yeah. Me too.
Why is this a bad thing? It’s a effort to show that she isn’t embarrassed of him. Kind of nice, considering how dickish she came off yesterday, I think it’s the least she could do.
So? that’s how to encounter Mike’s attacks. And I think she’s going to do it right.
Walky is really good at passive-aggressive guilt-tripping.
I think that with Walky, it was unintended. Considering the trolling that Mike just pulled-off, the passive-aggressive guilt tripping would be a drop in the bucket by comparison.
I’m sorry I’m so bad at life.
Was that a demonstration of passive-aggressive guilt you did just then? 😛
Joe, master of subtlety
Sometimes, master debater.
And sometimes a Mass Debater. He can handle the crowds that Joe.
Because he’s a cunning linguist.
His diction is really impressive.
It’s a huge asset to his personality
He’s also a master baiter, he can bait anybody into losing their cool and getting aroused…i mean excited…i mean…screw it.
He’ll go to great lengths to pull it off.
His ability to stand erect on a moments notice makes him hard to beat.
Dude. Cunnin’ Lynguists are one of my favorite hip-hop groups. Smart hip-hop. If you like the style of music but don’t like the current popular stars lyrical content, check em out.
Sorry for advertising other forms of enjoyment and entertainment other than your comics, Willis
I bet he’s a good pianist.
all the girls love it when he uses his pianist…….skills
They do have stunning English.
This by far the most exciting Gender Studies class.
Yeah, if this was what I missed by being an engineering student, I’m kinda jealous.
Heck, I only ever had one lesbian teacher, and she wasn’t anywhere near as cool as Leslie.
Few people are as cool as Leslie. I just want to give her a high five.
I’m an engineering student taking Gender Studies, so it is possible.
Goddamn it Dorothy why are you talking over Leslie’s word balloon SOME OF US ARE HERE TO STUDY THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL CONSTRUCTIONS OF MASCULINITIES AND FEMININITIES.
Just kidding, I’m here for the easy English credit.
As Willis said on his twitter soon after posting, Joe’s comment is a good illustration of the exact assumptions about women that Leslie’s talking about.
I’m aware. I read that on his tumblr. I was just making a reference to an earlier strip 😛
“Darth Vader is Luke’s father, there I said it.”
spoiler alert man!
Now I can’t even watch the movies.
Dorothy’s got a bit of the ol’ Mark Hammil hairdo herself.
Joe has a pool on Dotty being a lezzo huh, I wonder who else in this pool and what are the odds.
I think Joe’s pool is like…all girls that aren’t presently doing Joe. And even they are still in his pool.
Nah, Joe obviously only started the pool in a misguided attempt to make Danny feel better.
That… actually sounds like something Joe would do. It combines sweet with stupid.
That does sound like something Joe would do, but he seems like enough of a meathead to me that he’d consider your ex-girlfriend be(com)ing a lesbian to be a bad thing. Some guys act like you were such a bad boyfriend you “turned” your girlfriend gay, but I think it’s a lot more realistic to consider that her being a lesbian was probably why the relationship didn’t work in the first place.
…You would, Joe. You would.
…I am Iron Man.”
You people are all missing the big picture.
The announcement is so obviously that she’s pregnant.
…And Joyce is the father.
Holy shit, Dotty is an Asari? It all makes sense!
Embrace eternity Blob!
Also, does that mean we’re gonna see Dotty get it on with some Hanar in a future game?
Dotty/Blasto is now an official ship.
Leslie, can you repeat that, I couldn’t hear you over these 2 talking about sweeping each other’s rugs.
I think they need high powered vacuum cleaner :p
I forsee a slap in Joe’s immediate future.
Has Leslie even HAD a class that wasn’t interrupted by somebody’s personal business?
Well, this time it’s relevant, right? Dorothy’s presumably about to announce that she’s avoiding presidential-career college work to watch Dexter: Monkey Master with a boy in a taco shirt. Leslie can use this as an example in her lecture.
Stay classy, Joe.
I never thought that Walky would have such low opinion of himself like he does in this strip. Yeah, he’s a dork (which is why I love him), but he always seemed completely okay with that fact. I never really got the impression that he thought himself below other people.
Maybe it isn’t so much about him as it is about him believing that he’s lowering Dorothy’s standing.
This. Walky’s just feeling down because he’s concerned that he’ll basically just be really bad for Dotty and bring her down – a feeling with which I can totally empathize.
But that’s kinda my point. He feels he’ll bring down Dorothy and that he’d be bad for her, simply because of who he is. He feels like he’s beneath what she deserves and even admits that if their roles were reversed, he’d not want to acknowledge someone like him either.
You just proved your earlier point. People who think like that might have a tough exterior, but once that cracks everything crumbles. We are normally pretty good at keeping up a strong front until we are alone, but in a situation like this it’s just too much. Dorothy was already hurting Walky, but she couldn’t see it. Mike forced her to see just what she was doing to him.
I don’t think he’s ever cared about what anyone else thought before. Now he cares what Dorothy thinks and it’s just kind of hit him, because of Mike’s assessment and Dorothy’s embarrassment, that maybe he’s not exactly what she’s consider good boyfriend material.
He’s still a decent guy. I bet he already realize that he embarrase Dorothy, but Doroty want to make amend by saying something…..
“Walky and I are going to have sex. Right now. So I’m going to need you guys to help us push some desks together…”
Leslie: “But practical isn’t until next class, today it is strictly theory.”,/i>
Theory can be nice too, sometimes. Just be careful not to go overboard, or you won’t have anything left for the practical exam. 😉
“I love Wa-Wa-Walkmen!”
That is sooo 80s!
Yeah. We’re going back. Back to the 80’s.
Remember the “I love you- ukeleles!” joke from early in Order of the Stick? I was trying to go for something similar, but I couldn’t think of something that began with “Wa”.
It has been so long since I read OotS from the beginning, I no longer recall that part.
It was back when Haley and Elan still had Unresolved Sexual Tension.
Water guns. Wampas. Walks in the park. War reenactments. Wall paintings. Wal Mart. Whoppers. (spellings different, but phonetically it starts similarly. Hell, that one might actually work towards improving Walky’s mood, too.
I do love the Walkmen. Great early-2000s post-punk, with a great sound. I just barely missed a chance to see them, and I’m still bummed.
I’m sorry if this is dumb, but what did she do to make him feel crappy? What I’ve read was her saying that women care about her jobs more than relationships sometimes. It wasn’t aimed at him. Then she got embarrassed because Mike started discussing her personal life in the middle of class. I guess that has to do with him….but I still don’t understand…
Look back over the last couple comics again and really think about how he might feel.
Even though most people don’t seem to notice it, Walky is actually incredibly smart. He even admitted it, earlier, when Dotty came over and was watching cartoons with him. And based on the last couple weeks of comics, he’s also able to pick up on subtext. Dorothy has shown several times now that she’s embarrassed to be associated with him, and is picking apart his appearance. Then Mike aims several missiles, apparently at Dorothy. However, if you pay attention, the most insulting remarks aren’t for her, but rather the “hypothetical” focus of her attentions.
Don’t forget Billie also criticized Walky’s appearance. Despite his sunny disposition, a lot of that can add up sometimes. Like Billie was pushed and pushed until she finally decided to journalism a complete stranger, Walky’s been criticized past his normal happy-go-lucky attitude.
I’m gonna disagree with all the previous posters. Walky didn’t start looking down when Mike started bashing his appearance; he started looking down three comics ago when Dorothy argued that now, jobs are more important than settling down. To which Walky mournfully responded that he was okay with not settling down, he’d just like not to be thrown under a bus, please, thanks.
At which point Mike helpfully stepped in and helped Dorothy demonstrate that she was horribly embarrassed by the fact she had made out with Walky in the first place, painting it as being entirely due to Walky’s personal failings, thus finishing Walky off. But though Mike guided the finishing blow, Dorothy started it, and it was always about what Dorothy thought of him, not about Walky’s appearance alone.
Yeah, and Mike doesn’t give a shit if Walky puts his PJ’s back on when he gets to his dorm room, but he knows Dorothy does.
Alright Dorothy, this the time for you to make your stand. You want to be a leader in the future you should know damn well you have to shed your indecisive nature of your high school ideal.
This can only end in stupid.
Miss Bean, do I have your permission to correct you on a point of grammar? “Media” is plural. Hence, “the media portray” instead of “portrays”. Thank you for your attention.
When it’s referring to more than one medium (eg: canvas and clay), you’re correct. When it’s referring to the collective entity (ie: print, television, internet news services) it’s a collective noun, and therefore is singular, and therefore, “portrays” is correct.
Thank you for your reaction. I stand corrected. I have some trouble seeing the media as a collective entity with a singular conservative view on women, though. Leslie’s own focus on mass culture is apparent here, I think.
So… what’s Leslie saying in the second panel? And why is nobody else wondering this yet?
“Some believe that perceived differences between the genders are merely a social construct not based on biology, but on learned behaviors from our parents and peers.”
O, and the last panel kind of reads from what Leslie says in the previous panel! Like, totally! How come nobody’s yet noticed this?
There you are, Willis! Happy to oblige.
“I just saved a ton of money by switching to Geico.”
I know, I know, we’re not supposed to bring up the old world, so if you’re not familiar with Willis’s past work just skip this.
If Dorothy doesn’t want Joe thinking she’s a lesbian she should probably have Walky get a haircut.
Anybody else think that this was Mike’s intention all along?
To force her to either accept Walky or to break it off with him?
(Going with the theory that DoA Mike is “nice without being nice.”)
Since he never changes his default facial expression, it is hard to guess Mike’s exact motives aside from being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.
Anything is possible, I suppose. Just because someone is an asshole doesn’t mean that they are evil.
Yeah. The thing that gets me about this incident is that (other than his Twitter shenanigans), this is the first time we’ve seen DoA Mike be a pure asshole without any mitigating motive.
Which I why I think there has to be one.
So I guess no one noticed or bothered to point out that it “media” is plural? At least it is in my “mother”language. Very un-academic of that teacher, and unfitting to her character to make such a mistake, even orally.
