I hit the “you can mod now” button at about the same time as I hit the “kickstarter launch” button, so things have been harried, but hey guess what y’all have a comments moderator, and her name is Wack’d. Well, it’s “Wackd” on here because apostrophes are an illegal character but whatcha gonna do.
Anyway, she’s gonna make things… readable? Her rules are her own, and it seems she has a different goal from my usual one: her “actually make things readable” rule versus my “let everyone be mean to me so they don’t think i’m mean” rule. It’s probably a better rule.
Also she’s big on transcripts and tagging, so you might see some of that now. Wasn’t in the job description, but I’ll certainly allow it.
To sum up: I bet we’re all extremely excited to have a new focus for all our hate. oh god wack’d i’m so sorry, i hope they’re paying you enough for this, oh no wait that’s me, i know the answer to that is definitely no

(And also learn to tell the difference between a comment agreeing with a character about someone being frustrating in a certain written by a trans woman, and comments which are just hating on trans people. Got my comment on the last strip removed over that :p)
For real though, good luck, and I look forward to… not seeing the results of your work? It’s weird, moderation is a job that you don’t notice if it’s being done well.

Is there going to be a set of rules posted other than the intro post Wack’d did in the daily comments? And are those rules going to be objective in their wording so we can understand where the line is? In my experience, both things are helpful to the point of necessity when moderating a community at scale.

Oh, and it’s not necessary but can we expect to be told why our comments are being removed if they break rules? It’s hard to adjust and recalibrate when you don’t know what you did wrong.

If the system allowed for it, it’d be neat to have a bit of italic “This [comment/thread] was removed for [xyz].” in place of deleted comments/threads.

Honestly even if it JUST said “this thread was removed”, I think that would still be helpful, because I know sometimes folks wonder if it was their comment that was the problem or something else in the thread. At least “this thread” would let you know it was probably the parent thread and not you.

Yeah, I’d like to second this as well. I get that this new mod wanted to “establish themselves and set the new mood” (or whatever it is they attempted to do with their introduction and following post), but having expectations laid out in a more clearcut and less antagonistic manner may be more helpful for having comments follow said rules

Just to be clear the “not a moderating force” was a joke (intended as light ribbing but that sort of tone is hard to convey in text) about Taffy being A Bit Much© themselves, not unprompted antagonism towards Wack’d. That’s probably already clear enough but I’d like to be certain.
