  1. Don’t trust leaving things behind.

    1. I trust Alice’s behind.

    2. Agree. I lost a bunch of my stuff that my parents thought I didn’t want anymore to a fall garage sale that they held while I was away. And they’re good, loving people who would never intentionally get rid of someone else’s stuff. It was a miscommunication, but it still hurts, twenty years later.
      .
Not everyone’s parents are as trustworthy. Don’t leave anything behind that you couldn’t replace.
      .
… then again, we all take a chance with college roommates too, so it’s a gamble no matter what.

      1. Don’t trust stuff.

Except maybe Alice’s behind. Actually, I’m just amazed to find out that Alice’s first name is Actual.

      2. Stuff is just stuff. I’ve never had any of it I really cared that much about. So I guess this sentiment is a mystery to me.

      3. My partner’s father claimed he threw out an old, fancy Charles Dickens book set they had while they were at college. They didn’t find out until years later from his estate sale website that he’d lied. Unfortunately they still weren’t able to get it back.

      4. My mom threw out my honest to god fossil collection. That I had gathered by actual climbing around on rocks. Pre-dinosaur items, but not something easily replaced. A great loss to science.

      5. Seriously, my problem was the exact opposite.
I told my folks over and over between 20 and 40 “I have everything I want to retain, just chuck my childhood crap”
Only to have them “present me” with endless irrelevant toys and mementos. And me having to grind my teeth and say “thanks a lot ” and secretly dump it, as not to hurt their feelings.
Seriously, my dad repeatedly clawed old junk out of the bin and re-present it to me, because he cant let go of anything.

  2. Alice be down the rabbit hole
    that much we understand!
soon she will be lezzin out
    in bongo WONDERLAND

    to skipping, hopping, tripping,
    fancy free and gay,
    we started it tomorrow,
    but will finish yesterday!

    1. “Bongo wonderland”… is that a nickname for Jennifer’s curves?

      1. DANCE! BONGO WONDERLANNNNNDDDD

  3. Go ask Alice, when she’s ten feet tall

    1. Remember what the dork mouse said!

      1. “All the good things we do are God workin’ through us”?

        1. You may be thinking of the wrong dork mouse.

  4. I like Billie. She’s an interesting character to me.

  5. am i the only one who misses the toxic yuri?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC979eEzzUE

    1. No, I really miss Billie and Ruth too. For me it was the biggest bummer from the timeskip.

      1. They may not be together, but the toxic yuri remains intact.

      2. Okay, I was unfamiliar with the term “toxic yuri” and thought this comment was about Yuri, like, Faz’s mom, and I was VERY CONFUSED.

        1. I honestly suspect that Faz’ mom being named Yuri is one of the author’s in-jokes.

    2. There is toxic yuri everywhere for those with eyes to see.

    3. *double, triple takes from comic to comment*
Uh, you mean like this toxic yuri going on right here?

      1. They may have been toxic in the past and they might be toxic in the future, but right here they actually seem kinda sweet.

  6. Seeing the name of this one before I clicked on it, I was thinking it was about Amazi-Girl’s uniform in Jennifer’s room.

    SO CLOSE!

    1. Hey, I’m just waiting for Alice to discover the AmaziGirl uniform in Jennifer’s room and reach the obvious conclusion.

      1. That’s not a uniform. It isn’t uniform with anyone else’s clothing.

      2. AG is short, curvy and athletic. It’s obvious indeed.

  7. Aww, that’s sweet. I hope they get together and have a more-or-less healthy relationship.

I do wonder if this is going to tie back into the bowling storyline somehow. Will they call Jennifer to replace Asma as a fourth player?

    1. I’m slightly (a little bit) curious whether Dorothy and/or Joyce paid for their game or if IU’s bowling alley (which is real) is free for students.

      1. Seems like the type of thing Student Activity Fees ought to cover, but who knows

        1. I’ve never heard of that. Maybe my college just doesn’t offer it.

        2. Student activity fees when I went to school would cover it if you were bowling for the physical education credit, but not for bowling recreationally (although THAT fee was cheaper by far than the public lanes off-campus).

      2. Good question. If they did have to pay, it makes Asma leaving a bit of a dick move, and might encourage them to try to find a replacement player.

        1. It’s a very mild dick move, but fictional characters are also constantly shown leaving situations that have been paid for, so I guess it wouldn’t be too unusual. It does kinda drive me nuts, though. Fictional motherfuckers never finish their meals, they leave in the middle of expensive events (sports, concerts they’ve been dying to attend, conventions), they’re always just fucking off.

        2. Why would it be a dick move? Unless something’s changed in the 20yrs since I last bowled, you only pay per games bowled. Number of people is irrelevant. Back when I played, 1 person paid the same as 4 people.

        3. @Taffy – Yeah, it’s not a big deal, just a minor thing, but it bugs me slightly. It bothers me too when fictional characters do that.

@Cholma – Would it be a problem for them to bowl with three if they already set things up for four? I really know nothing about bowling.

        4. Reducing the number of players is fine. It’s not an interactive game like poker or tennis where your actions affect other people’s actions. Bowling is more like gymnastics. Each of your turns is fully independent of what happened during other players’ turns, and the lane completely resets before the next player starts. The only impact that the number of players has is on how long you have to wait before it’s your turn again.

The only complication is if the scoring computer won’t let them delete Asma or register her as forfeiting her remaining turns. In that case, they’ll just have to have somebody roll the ball a couple times on each of Asma’s turns so that it’ll tick over to the next player. In their shoes, I’d let Dorothy do that since she needs the extra practice.

      3. $4.50/game for students Thurs-Sat, $4 other nights. https://imu.indiana.edu/activities-services/bowling-billiards/index.html

        1. Huh. Well, that’s downright cheap.

  8. Love Alice’s mint hoodie-black shirt combo.

    1. Alice’s entire wardrobe lately has been fashionable, definitely in my top best DoA outfits

  9. Quite frankly you’re out of your mind if you think I’m ever gonna ship these two when I have Billie/Ruth
    __
In other sapphic news though I’ve just spent a couple hours making out with my girlfriend after getting her from the airport. Cheers!

    1. I support Ruth and literally everyone else because of all the physical violence and drug abuse.

I support Alice and Jennifer just because I expect it to explode horribly and I’m dying for that right now.

      1. You would throw up if you knew the kind of yuri I’m into

        1. Damn, I wanna know about the yuri that makes people throw up.

        2. I’m going to take a stab in the dark here and say… Kallidora Rho.

        3. Hesitant Google search commences

        4. I did a DuckDuckGo search and… well, they added a “Search Assist” AI thingy that I deactivate each time I see it, but it comes back after I wipe cookies. This was my first search of the day, and it came up with this gem:
“Kallidora Rho is an author with a book that has garnered interest from readers, as indicated by the number of followers and those wanting to read her work.”
At least it’s technically not wrong…

        5. @delive…:

          noai.duckduckgo.com is your friend

(Sucks that you gotta specify but.)

        6. 15 years ago, The Word That Makes The Internet Work was “reddit”
today, The Word That Makes The Internet Work is “-noai”

          (-_-) smh

        7. @Li:
Thank you. Conveniently, in Firefox, we can just set up a custom search with the URL:
          https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s
At least it’s fairly easy to opt out of this stuff with DuckDuckGo, unlike with some alternatives.

        8. You’re welcome! Thank you in turn for the tip about custom search engine links in FF, I half heartedly looked and decided I couldn’t do that. I’ll fix it when I get home ❤️

      2. I don’t think it will blow up because that would kind of be the antithesis of Billifer’s recent character arc, but I also don’t think it will be that easy either.

    2. I do miss Billie and Ruth together. They were my favorite part of the comic, and it just hasn’t been the same since they broke up.

    3. Same. I’m a Bilie/Ruth shipper until I D-I-E.

    4. Also: congratulations on the smooching!
The fact that it would annoy certain intolerant people is just a bonus.

  10. Asma had better move it, her window is closing rapidly!

  11. Oh good, disaster lesbians of a different flavour.

(Still wish it was toxic yuri, though. Ruth/Jennifer will always be my OTP)

    1. This has not historically been a non-toxic relationship, so I feel like saying this won’t be toxic yuri is jumping the gun a bit.

      1. Yeah but it’s like, levels. This one doesn’t feel like it’ll ever get into suicide pact territory.

It’s possible for it to be toxic yuri, but not for it to be as toxic.

(And yes, if she got back together with Ruth it also wouldn’t be as toxic, but the history alone makes for an interesting dynamic)

        1. Billie did very nearly kill both of them, so I don’t think it’s actually that far off

        2. Not only did Billie nearly kill both of them, as Thag Simmons said, Alice’s level of permissiveness (or whatever) in a relationship is such that she will a) believe an obviously very drunk person when they say ‘yeah I’m good to drive’ and b) subsequently willingly get into that car with that same obviously drunk person.

Billie is incredibly bad for Alice emotionally, and Alice is both fully aware of that and fully aware that she’s currently an addict telling herself ‘just one will be fine, I’m in control, just ONE’.

  12. I get the sinking feeling that this is all about to go horribly, horribly wrong.

and that if/when it does, the comments will still be 90 percent Joyrothy Discourse for some reason

    1. i mean, other than another chara dying whats the worst that could happen lol

      1. No main characters are going to die.

(The Damnable just hadn’t noticed that Mike had become a main character. He wasn’t supposed to.)

    2. So far, the only Joyrothy discourse today is this comment, preemptively complaining about it.

      1. I mean, nothing is going wrong yet, and this prediction is specific to a future point where things go wrong, so the comments on today’s strip aren’t really relevant to the veracity of the prediction.

        1. I guess, but this isn’t the first time I’ve seen Joyrothy discourse called out when it wasn’t happening.

And looking back, I read that “still” as meaning it continues rather than it starts up again.

        2. I mean, said “discourse” has been a pretty consistent topic of conversation for the last year plus, so.

  13. Calling it now, Billie and Alice get together, Ruth spirals, Ruth’s grandpa comes to be an arse, Billie does a dramatic showing that makes Alice think Billie hasn’t grown at all, and Billie and Ruth end up together again while Ruth’s grandpa enters the Hall of Dead Father Figures Whom Shall Not Be Mourned

    1. Maybe I’m not creative, but I struggle to find a reason for Clint to return beyond the classic “I’m old and dying now” trope. Last time he really only showed up because Ruth messed up and he had to protect the status quo of her remaining RA despite her fucking up in a way that should’ve gotten her fired. Ruth’s in a better place now, more stable and in an appropriate enough relationship. We’d need something new and compelling in Ruth’s story and I can’t imagine what that would be yet. We’ve already done the toxic yuri, crashout story,

  14. Alice is very cute…
That’s all I’ve got, tbh. Well, that and I still think Jennifer is rocking the short hair.

  15. Jennifer, why are you holding the butt end of the marker between your teeth? You’re supposed to bite the cap end so you can pull it out to mark!

    1. i’m just impressed she can speak without it falling out

      1. It’s actually not that hard. You need to move your lips and tongue to speak but your teeth can stay still.

        1. Lots of English-speakers don’t seem to know you don’t have to stick your tongue out to say “th”.

  16. I think Alice should be allowed to spend an entire chapter driving an indestructible car through every hallway on campus and run at least 4 named characters over.

    1. she should also get a grand slam from Denny’s :9

      1. Goddamn, I could fuck a Denny’s Grand Slam right now.

        1. If you do that, they throw you out of the Denny’s.

Don’t ask me how I know that.

        2. Don’t ask me how I know that.

          reporting for a friend

        3. I only just noticed the typo. That should read “I could fuck up a Denny’s Grand Slam”, As in eating it with enthusiasm. Like p-

    2. Not even intentionally. The indestructible car has tons of blind spots, it’s a really unsafe vehicle.

  17. I kinda prefer when Alice served as a specter of Billie’s past mistakes. I can’t get a bead on her current characterization. I feel like we kinda rushed her turnaround and now we’re in this weird dynamic between her and Jennifer.

    1. I don’t think it’s rushed because I don’t think it’s gonna happen. The build up is quick but it’s also one sided and we’ve haven’t seen Billie show any romantic interest in Alice. Sure Alice is still really hot for Jen but Jen has done nothing to reciprocate that. Maybe it will happen because sometimes things can just be nice and we’ve seen a lot of very quick hookups recently, but I think it’s more interesting if Billie rejects Alice at first.

    2. I found it pretty plausible, but I was also reading Alice as basically going “could have been worse, could have kissed her” after every run-in: She was not over Billie, she was trying to go cold turkey

  18. …this is somehow gonnna lead to asma somehow walking in on them making out

idk about uniforms but wish i had my chefs coat we got in culinary arts, we even had names on them too but i guess if orgot oh well

  19. Did Jennifer go back to being called billie or are people here just using that name again?

    1. I was pretty staunch in respecting her name change but the narrative and Willis have acknowledged the very unclear nature of Billifer’s name. She started going by Billie again when Alice was reintroduced and now no one really knows anything. I guess just call her whatever.

      1. Alice calls her Billie, because that’s what she went by in high school. I think she still insists on everyone else calling her Jennifer, thought.

        1. She simply hasn’t said anything.

      2. As long as the tags still say Jennifer, I’m going to stick with that, but it is getting pretty ambiguous.

        1. The only ambiguity is with Alice. I don’t think anyone else has used Billie.
Have we seen Alice react to anyone else calling her Jennifer?

        2. @thejeff We did. Nothing was said leaving this whole thing still pretty unclear.

          https://www.dumbingofage.com/comic/formal/

      3. I definitely go with calling people what they want to be called– I called a student in my class “Banana” for an entire school year because he said so and never changed his mind– but here, it doesn’t seem like a big deal if commentors use either name. It’s also entirely possible to be fine with some people referring to you with a name but not other people calling you that… and Jennifer has no opinion on what people here call her because she doesn’t know we exist.

    2. I just never stopped calling her Billie. I recall some people back in the day kind of comparing calling her that to deadnaming and that pissed me off. It’s not the same.

    3. I call her Billie because that’s her name.

    4. Alice never got the memo, because they were estranged at the time, and Billie doesn’t seem in any hurry to fill her in on it.

Personally, I’ve always been very iffy on the name change, largely because it doesn’t seem to have actually originated from Ms. Billingsworth’s own preferences, but rather from social pressure from Raidah. And I like the Billie who wants to reconcile with Alice and cares about Joyce and Walky a lot more than I like the Jennifer who fled from all the people who actually care about her in order to seek validation from Raidah’s toxic social circle.

  20. What are the chances of Alice stumbling upon Amazi-Girl’s uniform in some comedic fashion.

    1. I also just realized this, yeah. Either Alice finds the AG uniform and hijinx ensue, or Alice talks about “Billie’s uniform” around people, and somebody gets the wrong idea. We already know she kinda has a big mouth.

      1. Yeah I’ve been thinking about this, too, and Alice is SUCH a gossip.

    2. HOLY SHIT THAT WOULD BE SO FUNNY

  21. Look, yes, this is sweet, but also Alice you did in fact do everything in your power to leave Jennifer/Billie behind with the other high school stuff, and in fact you told her so last semester with some vehemence. Just for the record.

    1. And for damn good reason, too.

    2. …..I dont see a problem with what she said? Shes talking about right now. She didnt say “I have never once tried to leave you in the past”

  22. I’m not sure how to feel about Alice and Billifer. Last semester Alice didn’t want anything to do with Billifer because of stuff that happened in their past in high school, and then she got over that really fast this semester. I feel like I haven’t seen enough of Alice to know what she’s really about.

    1. Kyulen, you don’t *have* to think/feel anything? It’s OK. She is fictional.
Judgement of real humans is not required of you, let alone fictional ones.
It is also fine to have mixed feelings, conflicting feelings, etc as well as incomplete or no feelings.
It is also not required that you tell us your feelings, it would be quite OK to simply have or not have them.
What do you think of the art? The colours? The facial expressions? The humour? The magical realism? ? ?

      1. Oof. This doesn’t feel like you’re on the same wavelength as Kyulen at all here. (My apologies to Kyulen if they were actually onboard with your reply and didn’t find it as uncomfortable.)

  23. With Alice aforethought.

  24. I’m glad someone said it, that [the uniform in her college dorm] has felt like such a weird thing to me since the beginning of the strip. It makes sense with Jennifer’s character since dwelling on her glory days was a huge thing, but I don’t know anyone who brought high school memorabilia to college (then again, I didn’t live in dorms, so I guess I didn’t do as much snooping as I could have)

    1. I didn’t know anyone who did either, but I also didn’t know anyone who was a big deal in high school.

  25. she sure is Daisy’ing that pen

yeah I had a fresh start, but starting fresh damn near killed me

    1. I was wondering about holding a pen in her mouth like that. Is it a smoker thing? I’ve never seen anyone do that.

      1. I do that all the time with anything from pens to sticks. I think its an adhd thing, i just need something to fidget with in my mouth.

        1. ditto, used to do this all the time while studying and I’ve never smoked a day in my life

        2. Cheers. I have ADD myself, but this was new to me.

  26. OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH GAYNESS IS HAPPENING

  27. Oh shit peak’s back

  28. I’d say Asma could do better, but ladies into ladies do sometimes enjoy the disaster. Go on girl get both of them

  29. Yuri means lily. So the name Yuri is not something special.
Toxic yuri aka lesbian relationships result in mutual problems.
Ruth and Bilifer were drinkers and that is what made them throw up.
Ruth is obviously bisexual if not pansexual. So is Bilifer but their
    relationship made them drink more
    Toxic Yuri.
You want Non Toxid Yuri look to manga and the translation called
“Whispered Words” which is a High School romance between a
pretty young girl who is fixated at the beginning on other cute
girls and the serious judoka, heir to a dojo.
You trash goblins will not like it.

    1. I think a trash goblin can enjoy both toxic yuri and cute sweet yuri, it’s like spicy vs. sweet food.

Anyway I’m going to check out that yuri manga!

    2. Very weird energy to bring out of nowhere

      1. Nadamas. I don’t think it is your place to start criticising other people on here. Please stop. It is not kind.

        1. I care about what you think about me as much as as you care what i think about you. I recommend you just ignore me and i try to do the same in turn.

  30. Whose OFMD poster is that? I don’t take Billifer for being into gay men pirates. Gay woman pirates, maybe.

  31. Complete change of colour palette. All those pinks and vaguely purples gone. A lot of moody black. Something different going down here.

  32. I took my varsity jacket with me to college.

Mostly because I was poor and it was the best coat I owned.
