Agree. I lost a bunch of my stuff that my parents thought I didn’t want anymore to a fall garage sale that they held while I was away. And they’re good, loving people who would never intentionally get rid of someone else’s stuff. It was a miscommunication, but it still hurts, twenty years later.
.
Not everyone’s parents are as trustworthy. Don’t leave anything behind that you couldn’t replace.
.
… then again, we all take a chance with college roommates too, so it’s a gamble no matter what.
My partner’s father claimed he threw out an old, fancy Charles Dickens book set they had while they were at college. They didn’t find out until years later from his estate sale website that he’d lied. Unfortunately they still weren’t able to get it back.
My mom threw out my honest to god fossil collection. That I had gathered by actual climbing around on rocks. Pre-dinosaur items, but not something easily replaced. A great loss to science.
Seriously, my problem was the exact opposite.
I told my folks over and over between 20 and 40 “I have everything I want to retain, just chuck my childhood crap”
Only to have them “present me” with endless irrelevant toys and mementos. And me having to grind my teeth and say “thanks a lot ” and secretly dump it, as not to hurt their feelings.
Seriously, my dad repeatedly clawed old junk out of the bin and re-present it to me, because he cant let go of anything.

Seems like the type of thing Student Activity Fees ought to cover, but who knows
Taffy
I’ve never heard of that. Maybe my college just doesn’t offer it.
Big Z
Student activity fees when I went to school would cover it if you were bowling for the physical education credit, but not for bowling recreationally (although THAT fee was cheaper by far than the public lanes off-campus).
Good question. If they did have to pay, it makes Asma leaving a bit of a dick move, and might encourage them to try to find a replacement player.
Taffy
It’s a very mild dick move, but fictional characters are also constantly shown leaving situations that have been paid for, so I guess it wouldn’t be too unusual. It does kinda drive me nuts, though. Fictional motherfuckers never finish their meals, they leave in the middle of expensive events (sports, concerts they’ve been dying to attend, conventions), they’re always just fucking off.
Cholma
Why would it be a dick move? Unless something’s changed in the 20yrs since I last bowled, you only pay per games bowled. Number of people is irrelevant. Back when I played, 1 person paid the same as 4 people.
Astariel
@Taffy – Yeah, it’s not a big deal, just a minor thing, but it bugs me slightly. It bothers me too when fictional characters do that.
@Cholma – Would it be a problem for them to bowl with three if they already set things up for four? I really know nothing about bowling.
Pizzasgood
Reducing the number of players is fine. It’s not an interactive game like poker or tennis where your actions affect other people’s actions. Bowling is more like gymnastics. Each of your turns is fully independent of what happened during other players’ turns, and the lane completely resets before the next player starts. The only impact that the number of players has is on how long you have to wait before it’s your turn again.
The only complication is if the scoring computer won’t let them delete Asma or register her as forfeiting her remaining turns. In that case, they’ll just have to have somebody roll the ball a couple times on each of Asma’s turns so that it’ll tick over to the next player. In their shoes, I’d let Dorothy do that since she needs the extra practice.
Quite frankly you’re out of your mind if you think I’m ever gonna ship these two when I have Billie/Ruth

In other sapphic news though I’ve just spent a couple hours making out with my girlfriend after getting her from the airport. Cheers!

Hesitant Google search commences

I did a DuckDuckGo search and… well, they added a “Search Assist” AI thingy that I deactivate each time I see it, but it comes back after I wipe cookies. This was my first search of the day, and it came up with this gem:
“Kallidora Rho is an author with a book that has garnered interest from readers, as indicated by the number of followers and those wanting to read her work.”
At least it’s technically not wrong…

Thank you. Conveniently, in Firefox, we can just set up a custom search with the URL: https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s
At least it’s fairly easy to opt out of this stuff with DuckDuckGo, unlike with some alternatives.
Li
You’re welcome! Thank you in turn for the tip about custom search engine links in FF, I half heartedly looked and decided I couldn’t do that. I’ll fix it when I get home ❤️
I don’t think it will blow up because that would kind of be the antithesis of Billifer’s recent character arc, but I also don’t think it will be that easy either.
Yeah but it’s like, levels. This one doesn’t feel like it’ll ever get into suicide pact territory.
It’s possible for it to be toxic yuri, but not for it to be as toxic.
(And yes, if she got back together with Ruth it also wouldn’t be as toxic, but the history alone makes for an interesting dynamic)
Thag Simmons
Billie did very nearly kill both of them, so I don’t think it’s actually that far off
anonymsly
Not only did Billie nearly kill both of them, as Thag Simmons said, Alice’s level of permissiveness (or whatever) in a relationship is such that she will a) believe an obviously very drunk person when they say ‘yeah I’m good to drive’ and b) subsequently willingly get into that car with that same obviously drunk person.
Billie is incredibly bad for Alice emotionally, and Alice is both fully aware of that and fully aware that she’s currently an addict telling herself ‘just one will be fine, I’m in control, just ONE’.
I mean, nothing is going wrong yet, and this prediction is specific to a future point where things go wrong, so the comments on today’s strip aren’t really relevant to the veracity of the prediction.

Don’t trust stuff.
Except maybe Alice’s behind. Actually, I’m just amazed to find out that Alice’s first name is Actual.

Stuff is just stuff. I’ve never had any of it I really cared that much about. So I guess this sentiment is a mystery to me.

No, I really miss Billie and Ruth too. For me it was the biggest bummer from the timeskip.

They may not be together, but the toxic yuri remains intact.
Leadsynth
Okay, I was unfamiliar with the term “toxic yuri” and thought this comment was about Yuri, like, Faz’s mom, and I was VERY CONFUSED.
Deanatay
I honestly suspect that Faz’ mom being named Yuri is one of the author’s in-jokes.
Techhead
There is toxic yuri everywhere for those with eyes to see.
Jallorn

Uh, you mean like this toxic yuri going on right here?
Wizard
They may have been toxic in the past and they might be toxic in the future, but right here they actually seem kinda sweet.

Seeing the name of this one before I clicked on it, I was thinking it was about Amazi-Girl’s uniform in Jennifer’s room.
SO CLOSE!
clif
Hey, I’m just waiting for Alice to discover the AmaziGirl uniform in Jennifer’s room and reach the obvious conclusion.
eh, whatever
That’s not a uniform. It isn’t uniform with anyone else’s clothing.
Adept
AG is short, curvy and athletic. It’s obvious indeed.
Astariel
Aww, that’s sweet. I hope they get together and have a more-or-less healthy relationship.
I do wonder if this is going to tie back into the bowling storyline somehow. Will they call Jennifer to replace Asma as a fourth player?
Taffy
I’m slightly (a little bit) curious whether Dorothy and/or Joyce paid for their game or if IU’s bowling alley (which is real) is free for students.
