..Stark is a headache-inducing individual as a hero, but as a layperson in Marvelverse, I’d be pretty devoted to buying Starktech. I mean, the guy basically produces stuff at a level comparable to a fantasy setting enchanter. It’s magic, dammit, and I want it.
Consider this jacket do come free with a motorcycle, so there is a possibility that this jacket is to be worn on a motorcycle.
In that case it could easily be multilayered cotton or even leather. Given my 3 layer racesuit cost 500 (nzd so about 340 usd) and this is basically half of that (if it is multilayered cotton) an estimate of 150 seems pretty reasonable, and you can fold that stuff pretty thin.
It also isn’t out of the question for a top end motor company, which I’m going to assume Ruttech motors is because Carla says it is and I believe her, to have an offer where you get something worth 100 dollars when you buy something that’s probably gonna cost you many times that. Like a bike is going to set you up under back a couple of grand, at least, a hundred dollar jacket isn’t going to hurt their profit.
I said “more likely”. I do have awareness of where motorcycle apparel falls in the scope of things and, yeah, the really good jackets (be they intended for thwarting wind upon a motorcycle or for general cold weather) start retailing (before discounts) at $300+ USD. I’ve just personally never encountered or heard of a company giving away a top end jacket before, but I have seen several lower end freebies.
Likewise, any decent (especially from the perspective of insulation) leather jacket I’ve seen has taken up twice the space, both when worn and folded. Ruttech is branded, so the list price could be fairly high, but I wouldn’t put high expectations on the material.
Moreover, we can see Billie and Carla wear the jacket zipped up, all about the indoors, where others are going around casually in t-shirts. Off that alone, we can infer that the insulation isn’t likely too heavy and, off that, we can assume the quality and style is more likely to fall in the lower range of things.
That said, if I’ve got the timeline and region recalled right, the temperatures they’re having within the comic should be between a 40F and 60F range right now, so we can also argue for the jackets not likely being low-end windbreakers.
I don’t imagine the jacket’d break the $120 range, in any case, but maybe we can get a Word of Willis on the matter at some point. As Ana noted, Ruttech isn’t exactly a normal company, after all, so it could be some hyper-high-end super-breathable-yet-super-insulating jacket.
Didn’t see this post before posting mine below, but…lightweight motorcycle jackets don’t tend to be thin windbreakers, because they are designed to offer protection in a crash. They are usually heavy-duty material made into a mesh so that you can get wind FLOW, but if you crash, you have a decent chance of maintaining your skin in one continous piece. They can fold reasonably thin if you take out the removable pads that almost all models come with, but they run expensive. It’s not just a thin layer of fabric, it’s a thin layer of fabric designed to withstand friction with the asphalt at 50mph+ despite allowing ventilation so you don’t overheat while sitting above a small container of constant fiery explosions 3ft above black asphalt that’s been baking in the sun for hours.
It’s a motorcycle jacket, so likely not TOO thin of a material. Motorcycle jackets operate at a pretty different price point – a light, durable mesh jacket of any brand for riding in the summer is usually a couple hundred. Leather jackets are even more – though I’ve found some good deals out there in the past of only $200 or so for rejected custom jobs.

Yeah, I hadn’t really thought about it before and I don’t recall it being brought up here, but somehow “the Ruttech daughter” brought it home to me. Even without “gossip” and reddit crap, the lives of people at that level are sufficiently well documented that they can’t keep it quiet. All the early articles would have said they had a son and at some point they would have had to announce that wasn’t true, that they actually had a daughter.

Faye’s dad is still alive (he died while she was college age), and she’s closer to 30 than 20 in QC at this point. (Never mind the more fantastic elements of the QC universe, like sentient humanoid AIs, giant space stations, and amorphous pink felines.)

As drones get more ubiquitous, both the injuries and the lawsuits will get likewise.
I will note that the Ruttech drone’s blades have no safety guard, and it is flying in a fairly confined area.
Do you also remember just how over-the-top the drone was that actually slit the dummy’s throat? Damn thing had rotors like a V-22 Osprey.
Considering what Rutech’s analogue gets up to in Shortpacked! and Carla describing them as “overeager”… I wouldn’t be surprised if that drone has an onboard AI capable of collision avoidance… and if you tick it off enough, you wake up in nearby forest. You can’t expect a drone to haul someone all the way to the Amazon, after all.

Mary’s local church caters to the likes of Sierra and Joyce (and a college community in general), so it’s probably fairly liberal. Also, considering the fact that Carla is a fairly private person and it would in fact be detrimental to PR if it were, it probably isn’t common knowledge that the heir to the Ruttech throne is trans. Also also, it is a pretty sweet jacket.
It would be kind of hard to hide, wouldn’t it? If the Ruttens were originally known to have a son and then had a daughter. At a certain level of wealthy, it’s hard to keep things private.

Yeah, I hadn’t really thought about it before and I don’t recall it being brought up here, but somehow “the Ruttech daughter” brought it home to me. Even without “gossip” and reddit crap, the lives of people at that level are sufficiently well documented that they can’t keep it quiet. All the early articles would have said they had a son and at some point they would have had to announce that wasn’t true, that they actually had a daughter.
And it’s probably best to do that publicly and openly support her being trans, rather than try to slip it under the radar because you can’t stay under the radar.
Did Mary stick with that church, though? I only remember her there the first time Joyce went; I don’t recall her being there when Joyce took Ethan, for example. However, it’s a big church and she could have been in a different part of it. I just wouldn’t be surprised if she found a place with people with similar views.

They would have to be collaborating electronically since Jeph moved to Halifax. Easier to get to than Placentia, but only just. The good thing for Placentia is Climate Change keeps the Gut from freezing so the ferry gets through all year. The bad thing is it’s still Placentia, and the Gut not freezing means their winter diversion of racing cars on the ice went away.
