This. I await vicarious university homosexual experiences involving male bisexuals with great anticipation. I consider it likely, however, that Danny will have no sexual relations before Christmas.
I’m having trouble seeing what being bi has to do with it, too… maybe he thinks it’s a bi thing because the whole reason he can’t be with ethan is that he doesn’t want amber to think he is gay? and if he were actually gay he wouldn’t have been with amber, but if he was straight he wouldn’t want to be with ethan… so maybe being bi is actually relevant…
…. There’s a huge thing about no one ever recognizing people as bisexual. Women are seen as doing it for attention or experimenting and will eventually go straight, and men are seen as gay but can’t admit it to themselves. This is all over the place and it baffles me that you haven’t run into it before.
He can’t be with Ethan because they both agreed it would be unfair to Amber. I think he’s just thinking about his problems in terms of being bi because it’s something he just realized about himself, and isn’t used to yet.
I think all of the above are partly true. Seems like all the characters are overgeneralizing the situation (whether because they don’t want to deal with it or because they are clueless) and trying to sweep it into a box of “bi angst,” when the situation is more complicated than that. A common human issue.
Dorothy probably doesn’t know it’s more complicated. Ethan might be pretending not to know it. Drew DEFINITELY doesn’t know it’s more complicated. Danny…seems to be getting an inkling. And also just wants an excuse to be emo, obviously.
I also think “I dunno if I hate you or just want to be you” would be decent, but Specifically Bisexual Angst would be way better. Maybe this other quote could be the subtitle? They are related, afterall, and it’s essentially an elaboration/clarification of what the Bangst in question actually is. It seems like at least one of the books so far has had a subtitle type thing already, right? …so there would be a precedent…
Aw, I always thought Drew got kind of a bad rap in Shortpacked. He wasn’t a good boyfriend for Ethan, but “doesn’t want to constantly be surrounded by a million transformers” is way milder than most of the shitty things Ethan did over the course of the strip.
The vast majority of my kid crushes I was unaware that it even was a crush, especially fictional characters in media. When I started realizing first time in college that I had a thing of some sort for women, it really put all those childhood thoughts in a new context.
For a trans bi guy, the struggle for me generally is: idk if I hate you, have a crush on you, or want to BE you. (Usually it’s some combo of the above.)
This is me but as a cis bi guy toward openly bi guys, especially if they get to have cuddle benefits with their enby roommates (yes that sounds oddly specific)
Dorothy has the most important leadership trait of all: Multi-tier delegation. If you can get someone to get someone else to do something, you’re qualified to be a governor at least.
Why? I don’t know what happened with Drew in other universes, but in this one he seems fine. I liked his “man, classic bi!”. Drew came here to support Danny, and he’s gonna support him, dammit!
Shortpacked!Drew was a hot jerk that dated Ethan for a while… all the while belittling his comedian aspirations and his transformer collection. A while after they broke up, he showed up again trying to hook up with Ethan by preying on his insecurities (which made Ethan question his current relationship… but eventually just told Drew to fuck off)
In this universe, though, Drew is actually part of Danny’s problem- Danny wasn’t confident enough to try and date Ethan and now he feels like Ethan’s slipping away from him (thanks to Mike). Drew is basically all of Danny’s new insecurities manifested.
That I remember. He was freaked out by all the staring staring Transformers watching, always watching. I don’t think he knew Dthan also had conversations with them where they replied (or was that just a poster?)…
Dorothy: “I now realize that was a bad idea, so I got other LGBT characters that can help you.
Marcy: *Does a sign that translates to ‘I don’t know what I am doing with my life’.*
Malaya: “Sucks to be you. Just renounce happiness and go wait for you death and don’t expect for justice or salvation, because those are stupid concepts for goody two shoes that should give up.”
Carla: “I am awesome, and that is all you should know.”
Leslie: “Take it from me, don’t date someone with conservative biases.”
Ruth: “Act with integrity, no regrets.”
Billie: “Who the fuck are you again?”
Mike: “I will bang your crush for free.”
Danny: “Are all LGBT people in this school assholes, sociopaths and indecisive messes like me?!”
Dina: “Rude.”
Becky: “He is into something.”
All the main characters are such a mess that they actually had to call in a side character who has only appeared three times to give Danny decent advice.
That’s modified by the fact that lots of both straight and gay people think your sexuality is icky and dangerous, so it works out to about the same, sadly.
OK that’s a stupid lie, I also want lots of other things (like a slightly older gentle dom bi couple that would take me in), but if I got a hug from someone I could velieve didn’t secretly hate me, that would make me feel very happy.
Back in college, there was this guy friend of mine who I had a crush on. I used to snuggle with him when we watched anime hoping he’d make a move on me, but he never did.
So then I met this hot lady film student and befriended her and developed a massive crush on her. And I actually put on my big girl pants and asked her out – and got turned down cause she was straight. She still wanted to be friends, though…
Which led hot boy and hot girl to meet. And hook up. And start dating.
I remember a particularly painful evening when I went to visit guy friend at his dorm, came up to knock on the door, and could hear them loudly having sex inside.
In that moment, the thing I wanted most in the world was for them to open the door, ask me inside, and both have their way with me. I went home and spent the evening alternatively crying and fantasizing about that.
So yeah.
Damn. Damn. Holy shit that’s… wow that sounds painful. Just fuuuuck no how can the universe be that unfair. I wanna say “yo dawg just go full alpha and barge in and tell that bongo to share and also every girl’s gotta get freaky with another girl in college at least once so get over here gurl” but like 1 in 10,000 people actually has the cojones to do that and then it would probably backfire and I would end up blocking their numbers and pretending I don’t exist
**writes for an hour… realizes post is stupid long… deletes most of it**
Yeah, you aren’t my therapist – you don’t need me to relate all the messy details of my college dating life. Which I seriously had in here before sanity caused me to cut back to simply thanking you for your kind words. That was 20 years ago now, and I’m still friends with the girl (not so much the guy, who left a trail of broken hearts through our social group).
Yeah I know what you mean, about writing a long-ass post and then thinking better of it. But I actually have a lot of free time and almost no social life so feel free to spill your guts. No guarantee I’ll have anything smart or helpful to say. Personally I wish I had done college differently. I know what you’re thinking: doesn’t pretty much everyone? Yeah, maybe.
Oh hey, it’s Catman! (remind me again which one he was, was this the guy who belittled Ethan’s hobbies, the guy who ran off with the McAwesome’s employee, or the guy he ended up with, also were those last two the same guy, Ethan’s love life in Shortpacked! was hectic and none of his partners were ever that relevant since they weren’t employees)
Drew was the belittler, Thad was the guy who was reunited with his resurrected cyborg boyfriend Evan, and Manny was who Ethan wound up with.
Not that any of this matters, since DYW has said he’s not interested in re-doing any Walkyverse relationships, with the possible exception of if he finds something fresh to do with said relationship…uh oh
Well, we’ve revisited Ruth/Billie, Sal/Jason (very briefly), Leslie/Robin (even more briefly), Mike/Ethan (though that wasn’t even a relationship) and uhh I think Mandy/Grace?
Honestly I don’t mind Drew that much so I’m fine with seeing how this one turns out.
I had a cool idea for some fan art, where Amber was writing in a notebook titled “Friendfiction”, with a thought bubble showing all the people Ishe wants to see smooch. And if I could make it an animated gif so the thought bubble image changes around, that would be sweet
Oh my yes.
Particularly if they met through you.
I wrote about a specific instance above in another conversation thread, but it actually happened to me several times when I’d introduce two people I was interested in and they’d date each other instead of me.
I just realized what makes me so acutely uncomfortable about drew.
… He looks like he has been taken over by a hostile psion.
Yeah, the shade of his eyes really trigger that in me for some reason. Might be the combination of a shade lighter than almost anyone else in the comic combined with how uniform it is within his eyes? Makes my brain think “oh god that’s a mind controlled sleeper agent! Run, Danny!”
Is it specifically bisexual angst tho? Like, his crush declines his advances because they both used to date the same person. The whole “but what if she thinks she turned us gay” thing is just nonsense, right?
I just want to add that Dorothy describing Danny’s mood as ‘grumpy’, no matter how accurate this is, does suggest that she has less empathy and consideration for him than could reasonably be expected.
…How exactly does it show that, it’s an accurate descriptor and one of the softer understanding ones than saying he’s irritable or snappy. She also literally went around trying to find someone bi specifically to help him out with his bi angst, which is not something she had to go to the effort of doing for him.
No matter which word Dorothy would use to explain why she need someone to listen to Danny with understanding, any of those could be interpreted one way or another.
I know, right? Boop that Bongo for caring about her ex’s feelings and state of mind and going out of her way to find someone suitable to deal with them, while under no obligation whatsoever to do so! The nerve!
it could be this, but I just read it as “tired mom gently condescending so that widdle baby boy isn’t so serious”
When I used to sulk visibly people would usually use condescending language so that I would feel too ridiculous to continue with my bad ‘tude.
Does Drew in this strip appear to have Mako eyes ala Final Fantasy 7 to anyone else? Either that or he is possessed. His eyes seem creepily luminescent.
At first I was thinking “this is unrealistic” but then realized that I too would jump onto an opportunity to give a bi stranger advice just to have an excuse to talk to another bi person.

As a bi myself I’d like to see where this is going. XD
This. I await vicarious university homosexual experiences involving male bisexuals with great anticipation. I consider it likely, however, that Danny will have no sexual relations before Christmas.
Which do you mean? Our christmas comes or when DOA’s Christmas comes?
I mean DOA’s Christmas.
As a bi myself, I hardly think being bi is relevant to Danny’s situation and also he should stop whining so much and get on the tinder or something
Yes, this…this situation wouldn’t work if he weren’t bi, or if Ethan weren’t gay.
It’s also not a situation that can really be generalized to ‘a bi thing’, even though his bisexuality is relevant.
…. There’s a huge thing about no one ever recognizing people as bisexual. Women are seen as doing it for attention or experimenting and will eventually go straight, and men are seen as gay but can’t admit it to themselves. I also think “I dunno if I hate you or just want to be you” would be decent, but Specifically Bisexual Angst would be way better. Maybe this other quote could be the subtitle? Ugh, I hate Drew. Maybe he’s less of a knob this go-round, though.
He’s just drawn that way.
He’s just Drew that way.
moooood.
Here’s hoping. It IS a low bar to pass…
Aw, I always thought Drew got kind of a bad rap in Shortpacked. He wasn’t a good boyfriend for Ethan, but “doesn’t want to constantly be surrounded by a million transformers” is way milder than most of the shitty things Ethan did over the course of the strip.

Sorry, tonight is not a well-functioning brainmeats night. This is me but as a cis bi guy toward openly bi guys, especially if they get to have cuddle benefits with their enby roommates (yes that sounds oddly specific)
Same with me as a bi transgirl.
I guess Danny…drew the short straw.
Dorothy has the most important leadership trait of all: Multi-tier delegation. If you can get someone to get someone else to do something, you’re qualified to be a governor at least.
It probably would have been better for everyone if he just talked to Dorothy about it.
Agreed
Why? I don’t know what happened with Drew in other universes, but in this one he seems fine. I liked his “man, classic bi!”. Drew came here to support Danny, and he’s gonna support him, dammit!

Oh. OH. Right, I had forgotten Drew and Ethan were seeing each other. makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!
I think technically Drew is Ethan’s “ex”. More like they saw each other than they’re seeing each other.
Though they might “see” each other again, if you know what I mean.
It’s all so Shortpacked!, and in a bad way.
I can’t remember Danny in Shortpacked… Time for a reread?
“Danny in Shortpacked” is a very quick read.
It’s the Drew/Ethan relationship being alluded to.
That I remember. He was freaked out by all the staring staring Transformers watching, always watching. I don’t think he knew Dthan also had conversations with them where they replied (or was that just a poster?)…

Mike already banged his crush…
Aww, come on, this is unrealistic.
If Mike Offered to fuck Ethan, he’d ask for a nickel first.
He, uh, already did that.
Like, I mean, to another person, not Ethan himself.
“Have you tried throwing out your massive toy collection?”
“I…don’t have one?”
“Well then I don’t see what the problem is.”
All the main characters are such a mess that they actually had to call in a side character who has only appeared three times to give Danny decent advice.
But who has in fact been banging the person Danny has a crush on and likely wants advice about.
Which isn’t awkward at all.
I have a question for anyone here who’s bisexual, does being so make you feel twice as lonely when you don’t have anyone?
Maybe, but it doubles your chances of finding someone.
That’s modified by the fact that lots of both straight and gay people think your sexuality is icky and dangerous, so it works out to about the same, sadly.
Short answer: depends if you have friends who give hugs and cuddles. I just want to be needed by someone sweet and cute.
OK that’s a stupid lie, I also want lots of other things (like a slightly older gentle dom bi couple that would take me in), but if I got a hug from someone I could velieve didn’t secretly hate me, that would make me feel very happy.

Wasn’t Walky!verse Ruth/Billie a retcon, though?
Dorothy is helping!
I do not ship Drew/Danny. I do not. Make it go away. Kill it with fire.
Apropos the strip title — the last time I went to Disneyland, I got a t-shirt that said “You say ‘Grumpy’ like it’s a bad thing.”
Danny needs to make better use of the bisexual cloaking device
He’s been actively rejecting it with the hat and uke.
those are the items I need if I want to broadcast? yuck.
I thought we used cuffed pants and finger guns
I thought we used suspenders and… actually I’ve just been using suspenders. It hasn’t worked yet.
Man all of the Drew hostility must look really weird to the people who didn’t read Shortpaked!
didn’t read what now
I did read it but I remember virtually nothing from it so I’m just lost lol
I’m hoping this version of Drew turns out to be better than Shortpacked Drew.
Same. Let Drew be nice in this universe.
NOW KISS!
I had a cool idea for some fan art, where Amber was writing in a notebook titled “Friendfiction”, with a thought bubble showing all the people
Ishe wants to see smooch. And if I could make it an animated gif so the thought bubble image changes around, that would be sweetWhy not just do it?
Who says I won’t? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Do it!
Of course, Ethan couldn’t have known. That said, I do believe that Danny is currently questioning whether bad luck is a medical condition!
As a trans lesbian, I can relate
It’s really hard when you find yourself attracted to the person who has a thing going with the person you have a crush on.
Oh my yes.
Particularly if they met through you.
I wrote about a specific instance above in another conversation thread, but it actually happened to me several times when I’d introduce two people I was interested in and they’d date each other instead of me.
I’ve been rereading Shortpacked! a lot lately so seeing Drew just threw me off center.
Could have been worse, you could have spotted Not A Prostitute Guy!
oh that’s a bi mood right there.
I think that it’s an excuse not to embark on what could actually be a very difficult relationship.
Yeah, I’m beginning to think it’s “bisexual angst” in the sense that is angst experienced by a bisexual, not that it’s angst due to bisexuality.
I’m not sure it does, or at least not as much than her “Danny, what did you do?” when she found out AG and him had broken up.
Is that Dorothy saying “grumpy” or Ethan translating, though?
No matter which word Dorothy would use to explain why she need someone to listen to Danny with understanding, any of those could be interpreted one way or another.
How unempathetic and inconsiderate of her to find someone who maybe could help him deal with his issues when she can’t…?
I know, right? Boop that Bongo for caring about her ex’s feelings and state of mind and going out of her way to find someone suitable to deal with them, while under no obligation whatsoever to do so! The nerve!
it could be this, but I just read it as “tired mom gently condescending so that widdle baby boy isn’t so serious”
When I used to sulk visibly people would usually use condescending language so that I would feel too ridiculous to continue with my bad ‘tude.
Swing and a miss!
Drew has already understood what Danny’s problem is? He’s good!
God, these people are such busybodies. Almost makes me glad I had no friends in college.
Goodness, Ethan in this strip. Like five levels cuter than usual.
Does Drew in this strip appear to have Mako eyes ala Final Fantasy 7 to anyone else? Either that or he is possessed. His eyes seem creepily luminescent.
Yup. That’s Drew.
**writes a joke about Crisis Core, then remembers that no one played/likes Crisis Core**
*HISS*
Okay, BBCC, let’s be fair. We don’t know this Drew. For all we know, he’s a perfectly nice guy.
…Aw, what the hell.
*HISS*
At first I was thinking “this is unrealistic” but then realized that I too would jump onto an opportunity to give a bi stranger advice just to have an excuse to talk to another bi person.
