Hahahaha, I love that Billie/Jennifer is confident in her belief that she can get the story first. Sometimes to tell the news you have to be a part of the news. Billie/Jennifer could learn from Dorothy, yes?
Honestly, if Dorothy wasn’t magically there, that would be all the more reason to get her hustle on. She would actually have a chance to scoop Dorothy.
Except of course we know Dorothy was magically there, so Jennifer has stumbled ass-backwards into the correct decision for the wrong reasons. Which is super on-brand.
Billifer absolutely does not want to end this date she worked so hard to get. I mean. This casual hangout she behaved perfectly normally and coincidentally ended up happening.
If you want an explanation and some more fun examples, try googling “why your brain can read this”.
(most of the hits you get will be deliberately misspelled, but that won’t matter.)
No, I think one of Dorothy’s friends would have to be the Jimmy, but I don’t know enough superman to know who Alice would map onto. Does Lois even have friends?
No, no, it’s okay! Because Sal and Walky are the same person!
(it’s a dr hyde and mr jeckle thing)
((it’s just a ploy to get danny and joe to start boning))
Isn’t she half? That means she can be token rep because she’s more likely to be “one of the good ones”. I actively encourage everyone to dry heave over this sentiment.
Do you ever look at a detail of an art style too hard and then it’s all you can focus on? I got wrapped up in the noses and how the black areas make it look like they either have animal style noses, like a cat nose or something, or they have one huge nostril. I’m going to stick with the animal thing because it’s cuter.
(And obviously this is not new at all; sometimes things just jump out at you.)
Alice not knowing there’s a protest about Gaz…err, Bulmeria is the most sadly realistic college thing possible.
Less realistic is Jennifer knowing all of the details.
I assume she learned them from Raidah who is uncomfortably right about everything she believes in but is also a terrible person. Sort of the anti fundamentalist Joyce.
I mean, Jennifer is looking at a news update right now, it probably mentioned the location and general topic of the protest while saying the police had raided it.
We’ve got preview panels of them like a year from now.
Still running hand-in-hand. I assume that’s all they’re doing for the next year. The comic will continue with everyone else’s storylines, and every few weeks we’ll just get a cut to Joyce and Dorothy running hand-in-hand, just getting further and further from campus. Eventually Carla will find them in the Amazon when she swings by to drop off Mary.
Here’s a question: Do you think Dorothy will write about this, and admit she was at the protest, or will she avoid the subject, and let Billie/Jennifer cover it instead?
Jeez, Jennifer. Don’t you know that “Go to the protest raid” is code for “make out with the hot girl you’re having a conversation with?” She’s practically throwing herself at you.
I think at this point it must be clear that Jennifer is actually Amazi-Girl herself and is hiding her identity by pretending to report on it. She makes it look like it’s Amber with mirrors and whatsits. But the real magic, of course, is done in post. Very clever once you figure it out.
In fairness to Jennifer, without knowing Dorothy’s recent inner turmoil the thought of OG “law and order, uphold the institutions” Dorothy participating in a protest rally DOES seem inconceivable.
True, but Jennifer has some clues. She should at least know that Dorothy has been going through some shit, been a little bit unpredictable, and been upset. Jennifer tried to cheer Dorothy up with karaoke, they’ve had a couple of verbal fights in the hallways, Dorothy did some underage drinking, and Jennifer knows Dorothy had sex with Joyce (by some definitions).
Plus she’s a print reporter. The aftermath of something like that protest and the cops rioting is a great visual for TV but there are not a lot of people to interview there now.
DOES SHE want to keep it? Billie’s relationship to journalism feels a lot like her relationship to Asher; zero emotional investment because she only maintains it as a ‘status symbol’ in her warped self-perception as Head Cheerleader.
It’s funny to think that if Jennifer had stopped to interrogate Walky’s questionable claim of “2.5 girlfriends” she’d probably have learned more about Amazi-Girl than she has up till this point. Including, you know, that she definitely isn’t Sal.
To be fair to Jennifer, if I heard ‘2.5’ girlfriends from a friend of mine, my first assumption would be that .5 means he was in a situationship or that they had maybe one single fling rather than assuming the .5 was pointing towards anything DID related.
I’m not assuming they’d immediately clue into Amazi-girl being an Alter or anything. It’s just “.5” is the sort of thing that has a story and given the immediate followup from Alice and like everything we know about Jennifer, it is clear the two are up for some gossip. A 0.5 girlfriend has a high likelihood of Hot Goss.
If they’d pressed a little they may have learned some stuff is all.
There’s NO way that anything newsworthy happened in that place that’s five minutes’ walk away and also my journalistic competition would have no possible reason to be there also. Jennifer do you hear yourself speak or do you find you drift in and out
who knows where dorothy is right now, anyway
She’s somewhere.
Right. Because—in the immortal words of Buckaroo Banzai—wherever you go, there you are.
What? How does he know? Is he following me?
It’s actually “No matter where you go, there you are”. The line is often misquoted.
… this is what I get for making an exceedingly obscure reference to a single two word joke in an abridged series.
you can’t win with people who retain massively obscure quotes from four-decade-old-movies. “Don’t be mean; we don’t have to be mean.”
Back then I wanted planet 10. Now I would settle for getting Pluto back.
I’m sorry, but I had literally just rewatched it. As in just before I read the comic. And I love the movie. Book is way better though.
The Shadow Knows
The Shadow Knows All
The sun is shining…
…but the ice is still slippery.
[ Theremin noises intensify ]
The weed of lesbian crime bears bitter fruit. But rather piquant actually.
Dorothy and Joyce leave the strip, running away to be lesbian criminals together.
They’re next seen smuggling relief into Bulmeria as wife and wife.
“Thanks, but what are we going to do with 35 tumble dryers?”
Burt Wonderstone: “Yeah, it turned out they wanted food, water, and medicine not magic.”
What about 37, in a row?
I would both love and hate Willis to have the gall to do this.
Certainly not me, officer.
Jennifer certainly feels like she’s on par with modern mainstream journalists here.
She may have a bright future in the field.
Is it just me or does Alice look really spaced out or glazed over?
It’s just you; she’s seems awake and alert to me, and I don’t know why should would be spaced out at a time like this unless she is high.
That’s just it – she looks a tad high.
I’m pretty sure it’s just Willis getting used to drawing a new face, but she does look a tad off.
her right eye seems a little higher in panel 5 versus panel 2, maybe that’s it?
nvrmind just noticed the chin, my bad
A bit in panels 2 and 5. She looks fine in 1 though.
I agree with ZombieKyrik it is just you JA.
Nah I see it. Her gaze always looks a little unfocused, reminds me of Dina’s stare. I agree with Rose, I think it’s just artistic growing pains
I don’t see it, myself, but IDK
I think that’s just what she looks like
She always looks at least slightly detached from her surroundings.
What with the open textbook in front of her, I’m gonna say she looks grateful for the distraction.
She looks a little cross-eyed, but it may be the effect of her fringe.
Also, is Billifer copying Alice’s fringe or vice versa? Or is it just that Willis gives that hair triangle to almost everyone?
her face just does that
yeah, she’s so relaxed next Jennifer
Everyone in this strip is high all the time. It’s the only explanation.
Come on, Alice isn’t high all the time. She only does crack like once a day.
As Jennifer said to Joyce, “You’re allowed to do crack like once.”
I think she looks surprised at finding out there was a protest that got raided on campus.
Pfffffffhahahaaaaaaa
My thoughts exactly.
Absolutely no notes.
Billifer absolutely does not want to end this date she worked so hard to get. I mean. This casual hangout she behaved perfectly normally and coincidentally ended up happening.
Dorothy is Klark Cent and Jennifer is Loie Lans
Does that make Alice Ollie Jimson?
I swear to the gods, I read that as Jimmy Olsen.
Who the heck is Ollie Jimson??
Alice, like I said.
So that makes Daisy Perrite Why, right?
Oh. Klark Cent. Loie Lans.
Yeah, I have no idea what the fuck is going on here. Carry on.
If you want an explanation and some more fun examples, try googling “why your brain can read this”.
(most of the hits you get will be deliberately misspelled, but that won’t matter.)
Oh, I am already very familiar with the concept.
Doesn’t mean I don’t get bamboozled by it now and then, as demonstrated, but I am quite familiar.
Hehehee
No, I think one of Dorothy’s friends would have to be the Jimmy, but I don’t know enough superman to know who Alice would map onto. Does Lois even have friends?
Maybe she’d be Gat Crant?
Well, we certainly have enough Friends of Dorothy in the comic now to choose from
I initially read “Klark Cent” as the same sound of Clark Kent, and was confused how that helped.
. . . Which today would make Phoneless Dorothy K.C. Undercover.
Ah, right, that’s a Disney Channel show… how does it compare to Hannah Montana?
Well she is right, on wrong reasons, but right anyway
Re: Alt-Text
Jennifer: “But if Sal is Amazi-Girl…and Amazi-Girl is Dorothy…oh my god Walky, you sick freak!”
No, no, it’s okay! Because Sal and Walky are the same person!
(it’s a dr hyde and mr jeckle thing)
((it’s just a ploy to get danny and joe to start boning))
Dr. Hyde, Heckle, and Jeckle?
(You’ve got the titles the wrong way ’round: it’s Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.)
Lol
Lmao
I hope Jennifer finds her true calling eventually because journalism is not it.
I don’t know, have you seen what passes for journalism these days
She might even be overqualified
Touché.
If she gets a blonde dyejob, she might intern on Fox “News”.
Nah, she’s not white, they wouldn’t take her.
Isn’t she half? That means she can be token rep because she’s more likely to be “one of the good ones”. I actively encourage everyone to dry heave over this sentiment.
Cluelessness Champion, as yet undefeated
If there was a world championship for cluelessness, Jennifer wouldn’t even show up because she’d get the day wrong.
niiiiiiiice

“Probably wouldn’t kill you to be more professionally ambitious.”
“Eh…”
Billifer dodging work again.
Terrible journalist behavior, go snoop around
Alice is turned on by journalism?
Or… “journalism”?
I am unsure what you mean by “journalism,” but I am interested in finding out.
There is a fine line between “journalism” and “laundry.”
Journalism.
Oh, I see. Well that puts a new spin on uncovering dirty secrets. Thanks for the link to the pertinent reference.
So who did Daisy send to cover the protest?
I think she might have sent Daisy
But if so, I bet she still missed AG being there. Got some quotes, stepped away, and ten minutes later…
Surely Daisy was there for gay kisses!
I feel like Daisy’s thing is more that she misses gay kisses.
Yeah, bonus comic had her in the bathroom when Amazi-Girl showed up to Robin’s rally, for example. Daisy has the worst luck.
But this time she got the photo.
That does happen to me, but I had not noticed that nose detail yet, you are very observant. Unfortunately, now I can’t unsee it.
It’s just an artifact of the pan-and-scan transfer. If we were seeing this in the original widescreen ratio it would be fine.
LMAO XD
Alice is so hot.
sim
Billie making bad/wrong takes still hasn’t gotten old yet. Who knows if it ever will.
Billifer continues to be amazingly bad at journalism.
“Asma was also at the protest.” Maybe she’s AG!?
If Dorothy is already there, Jennifer can’t beat her to it. Dorothy not being there is when she should go.
oh i was not gonna predict the next thing would be Billie, but here we are.
Who was the person who suggested switching to new character POVs?
I just wanna talk…
Joyce and Dorothy are gone. We’ll never see them again.
Ken and Malaya will be taking their spots as main characters.
We don’t see them again until July 2026.
Dorothy: “Hey gang! We’re back from our honeymoon and Joyce is pregnant!”
give this website server a rest, it gets slower, after the strip
I was all set to be grumpy about the narrative switching to a different scene but honestly this is hilarious.
Here’s a question: Do you think Dorothy will write about this, and admit she was at the protest, or will she avoid the subject, and let Billie/Jennifer cover it instead?
I think yes and I think Daisy will use a photograph of the kiss to go with it without Dorothy’s prior knowledge.
That’s very specific, and would be fascinating if that happens.
Is it just me or do they have the same haircut just with different hair textures?
From one toxic yuri to another let’s ride this lightning.
We now interrupt this disaster bisexual moment to bring you an update from the original disaster bisexual!
Annnnnd once again Jen proves herself the Queen of Denial
Hell yeah more Alice
MOAR ALICE!
Oh Jennifer. Not even she is safe from the fallout of Dunn Meadow.
ah, yes, magically. Heavens forbid she was actually taking part in the protest, right, Billiefer ?
Jennifer knows Dorothy’s politics doesn’t believe in anything but bland centrism.
As opposed to based centrism where you’ve got a gun in each hand, one pointed at Nazis, other at Commies. Dotty should engage in some of what!
somewhere, close to them, a radio plays “if your girl only knew” by Aaliyah
OK, that made me laugh for a solid minute, which is always a great way to start the morning. Thank you, Willis ^^
“Oh! Do you need to run off and do a story now?” is what you say when you know Jennifer is Amazi-Girl, but she doesn’t know you know.
Hm…Dorothy, Jennifer, Sal…so many solid candidates. Whomever could it be???
Don’t forget Joyce!
Jeez, Jennifer. Don’t you know that “Go to the protest raid” is code for “make out with the hot girl you’re having a conversation with?” She’s practically throwing herself at you.
You think Billie would be aware that an event like this will have Dorothy’s interest.
The law of large numbers means that Jennifer has to be right about *something* eventually, right?
Spending time with Alice seems to be a right thing to me, tbh
I think at this point it must be clear that Jennifer is actually Amazi-Girl herself and is hiding her identity by pretending to report on it. She makes it look like it’s Amber with mirrors and whatsits. But the real magic, of course, is done in post. Very clever once you figure it out.
With the rise of cgi, actual practical effects are a dying art. We must treasure our few remaining practitioners.
Dorothy, at a protest? Unlikely! In the x-treem!
Next, you’ll be telling me Amber was there! Or… Joyce! HA! That’d be so ridiculous!
…This is why Billie makes such a crap reporter.
Plus she’s a print reporter. The aftermath of something like that protest and the cops rioting is a great visual for TV but there are not a lot of people to interview there now.
I’m worried that if Billie finds out Dorothy was at the protest and got personally evacuated by Amazi-Girl, she’s gonna Xenomorph her.
I mean on the plus side I think Alice would probably find the new exoskeleton and bladed tail hot.
Jennie, er, Billifer, welp, Intrepid Investigatrix, it’s just amazing how correct you are at all times.
Jen, you’re a terrible journalist.
Jennifer the next day, when Dorothy gets the Amazi-Girl scoop once again: MOTHERF–
I feel like Willis should at minimum have had someone try to get Amber to write for the student newspaper just for the Clark Kent joke
Nah, she’ll just sell Daisy photos. For the Spider-Man joke.
Photos with increasingly specific requests, angles, poses. And photos which never seem to make it into the newspaper. Odd.
Billie is at her absolute best when she is saying completely dumb, wrong things with absolute cheerleader confidence. I love it. I treasure it.
Billie/Jennifer, you’re losing the headline of your live.
In other circumstances I might be questioning whether Billie actually wants to do journalism, but she just got Jennifer to start talking to her again.
The journalistic instincts of a capybara
Billie has various distinct strengths. Vigilance, perceptiveness, and the ability to check her biases are not among them.
“no rush” I know you’re reuniting with whatever alice is to you but maybe do your job if you want to keep it
DOES SHE want to keep it?
Yeah, and this case I think that’s also true– the .5 was because he and Amber were a situationship. Not because of her DID.
I think if they pressed it they’d just learn it was a situationship, like Yumi said.
BREAKING NEWS…Ah, it’ll wait.
I guess eventually I had to sympathize with Billie.
is alice just going to ask questions for the rest of her life?
There’s NO way that anything newsworthy happened in that place that’s five minutes’ walk away and also my journalistic competition would have no possible reason to be there also. Jennifer do you hear yourself speak or do you find you drift in and out
yeah nah, if Dorothy was Amazi-Girl, then we’d be in a wacky position
this may be the start, o cast page
