Although I’m firmly in favor of as much Joyrothy sex as possible, I feel for Sarah here. Sharing a room in this situation is just really awkward. I wonder if she’s reflecting on how unlikely this situation would have seemed back in September.
Yeah, I kinda guarantee that Sarah’s thoughts about Joyce and Dorothy sexy talk and/or times are not anywhere NEAR “wow, it’s so unlikely that they’d end up being in lesbians with each other” and are far closer to “goddamn I wish these horny bongos would find somewhere else to fuck so I can get some goddamn sleep”.
Yeah I’m hopeful for Sarah laying down the ~I need to sleep to do well at school please do not become a barrier to my success~ conversation because I think she’s super valid there.
Well, it’s something I would think about in that situation, but I’ve been told my brain is pretty weird. But given the amount of time she’s likely to have to put up with it, it doesn’t seem that strange that it might cross her mind, “Damn, when I found out my new roomie was super Jesusy, this was not something I thought I’d have to deal with.”
That’s the kind of thing I would have expected her to think, possibly, in a moment when they’re not actively antagonizing her. For example, before or after her conversation with Joe, that’s when I imagine she’d be more likely to have that kind of thought (although in my head, I do also think it probably goes more like “for fuck’s sake, I thought rooming with the Jesus Freak would mean LESS relationship dramatics” possibly with a “shoulda’ seen this coming when she went along with the Jacob plan”)
daily affirmations for dumbing of age commenters:

like to be fair i usually just ignore the hater thread, the worst stuff ive seen was outside of that or on another website, and a lot of folks have had fair criticism also thats fine
plus there’s been arguing about ships or whatever the whole time the comic has been up
but also this is a webcomic created by one person who iirc is the only comments section moderator yknow? who has to weed through both regular angry comments and bigoted troll comments? im sure they got the message the first time
imo i think that kind of thing is symptomatic of internet culture shifting more and more towards perpetual outrage and entitlement,
particularly towards creators to be that /and/ everyones friend, news outlet, sounding board and court jester
but uhh anyway i think i have commented on the comments more than a few times so i will take my own advice and go do something else now
The only thing that’s not completely giving them away is a lack of constant squeaking sounds…atleast I assume there isn’t because I’m not seeing sound effects text.
While I’m personally happy for Dorothy, and Joyce, despite the problems they’ve caused (and despite the haters) I don’t think it is fair to Sarah for them to be getting busy when she’s in the room trying to sleep unless she has said it is ok. Some roommates might not be bothered by it, but Sarah clearly is annoyed, and doesn’t seem to approve of it.
If it would make you happy, you can literally do this for yourself. Just stop reading here, bam immediately story over. I’ve done that with plenty of webcomics over the years when I felt they’d run their course.
tbf we don’t know if she has anything she needs to tell Dorothy about Joe, she never finished her conversation with Joe. When she gets around to that she might just say “sorry but the swinger life isn’t for me, we can still be friends though” and that’ll be it.
Well, regardless of who specifically, at least one character is being left hanging by Joyce. And more importantly the audience is being left hanging, so I think it can be forgiven that many readers are antsy for the other shoe to drop.
For all we know, in Joyce’s extremely never-really-dated mind, she broke up with Joe already. Their last conversation included “I have to break up with you” and “I can’t date two people at the same time.”
It might be just my extremely only-ever-datwd-one-person mind, but the two were followed by a solemn promise to talk about it later… Surely that matters?
In my autistic mind, “We’ll talk later, I promise” means exactly that: you are sincerely committed to talking to the other person later. It’s not something you just say as a meaningless social platitude without intending to follow through on, my brain is too literal for that. So I’d be surprised and disappointed if Joyce didn’t intend to continue the conversation.
…however, “later” is also a remarkably non-specific timeframe. Tomorrow is later. Next week is later. Next month is later. Maybe this is what Joyce is relying on right now: she said she’d talk to Joe but she didn’t say *when *, so she gets to continue putting off “later” in favour of doing less awkward, more fun things in the “now”.
She said “we’ll talk later” which doesn’t even mean they’re going to talk about Joe’s idea that Joyce can still totally date him. Maybe she just means she’s gonna give him some time to come to terms with the fact that she just dumped him, and then later in a few days they’ll talk about what their friendship looks like now that she’s on the bump and grind with Dorothy.
If anything, Joyce’s aghast reaction of “oh my god I am a hussy” makes me think she’s definitely not on board for dating two people at the same time.
I think in Joyce’s worldview it isn’t being a hussy if you’re with the person. Anything she does with Dorothy doesn’t make her a hussy because they’re in a relationship.
She’s in a rebellious phase, not a hussy phase. Speaking as someone who came into atheism in university, that’s normal, she’s bucking the childhood indoctrination.
Ah, but you see, it doesn’t matter because Joyce and Dorothy are in Twu Wuv and so they are allowed to drop all other commitments to anyone and everyone!
I hurt two of my three closest friends and literally promised one I’d have a conversation with him? Doesn’t matter, gotta go have more sex and piss off my roommate (who is also a top five friend).
EXCEPT, when she and Dorothy were talking to Daisy, Dorothy said “We broke up with our boyfriends!” and then Joyce looks awkwardly to the side “Y-yeah.”
Strongly disagree. If Partner A is invited to polyamory (or anything along those lines) they should immediately tell Partner B, even if they completely shut the idea down–which Joyce did not. And if they’re considering it at all, Partner B should absolutely be involved in the decision-making process, not merely informed of the final determination.
Especially if the invitation comes from a member of y’all’s social group whom Partner B is going to have to decide how to interact with them going forward.
I mean, unless Joyce decides she’d like to take Joe up on his offer, it’s not relevant.
If she does want to date both of them, then yes, she’ll need to ask Dorothy all about it. But we have no indication that she’s even considering dating Joe. Mainly because she doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of brain cells to spare at the moment, but still.
10 years in the future. Joyce and Dorothy are married and raising a child they adopted. Dorothy’s campaigning for a congressional seat, Joyce has to cancel her table at a con because she caught covid 44 at kindergarten orientation, someone will still comment that she hasn’t told Dorothy she’s still dating Joe.
Joe is the First Gentleman. He and the president have a fairytale romance beloved by the press, and several dogs. Occasionally a tabloid tries to dig up rumors of a list scandal in college. It’s difficult for him to keep working as a therapist while his spouse is in office, so he’s turned to doing mental health advocacy. He’d be happy to assist Dorothy’s campaign, but she hasn’t called him.
I don’t think people respond to screamers with “you’re not as quiet as you think you are” because I don’t think they’d start with the assumption that “quiet” was part of the plan.
Honestly they could have perfect voice control and if the room is otherwise silent, it’d still probably sound like they’re cooking Mac n cheese over there.
There is no ‘on top’. Both bunks are at the same height. I have seen no privacy curtain. Sarah can probably see, as well as hear. them. How does Sarah use Mr Vibratey?
I find myself unable to even imagine shared rooms like this. But I’m not USAvian.
There was one time she told Joyce that if she didn’t leave she was going to use it while Joyce was in the room. Joyce called her bluff. It wasn’t a bluff.
Surf sounds, or Rain on a Tin Roof sounds, or whatever, looping on your phone to low-profile bluetooth earbuds. By the time their batteries run down you’ll be long asleep.
I hear you dude. Literally all headphones so far physically hurt my hears and it’s made me very aware of public sound pollution etiquette and violations thereof.
Oh jeez. Mine isn’t quite that bad, but noise canceling ones specifically… the ones that make noise that’s not supposed to be audible are unpleasant, but even the ones that don’t do that give me some sort of a like… airplane pressure change sensation. Bleh.
I regret to inform you that Joyce is still the main character of the comic and her problems and relationships will continue to be centralized in the coming story arcs. :<
It’s not about Joyce’s character status, it’s the actual misery other characters are feeling. Joe, Walky, Becky, and Dina are in hell and anyone in their orbits will feel it. That’s the misery that I’m hoping ends soon.
Really anticipating a time skip pretty soon here, maybe not as drastic as the last, but probably at least a few weeks to a month. Largely because in a few panels Becky’s hairstyle appears to have grown out the undercut, and Joyce/Dorothy are shown outdoors(?) in short sleeves.
If so, that means that Joyce declined Joe’s suggestion to go poly. I am sad. I think I knew in my heart of hearts that it wouldn’t happen, but I wanted it to happen.
I think what Joe was suggesting was more of concurrent relationships. A real polycule means Joe and Dorothy would develop a better relationship. It could happen but will take time. Here’s hoping
That is absolutely not what “a real polycule” is at all. People approach polyamory from different angles, some people have no interaction with their metamours at all.
I think it’s not likely. Becky’s just going to get a haircut, I think, and I looked at the preview panels on Tumblr and didn’t see anyone with short sleeves outside. In any case, it would take more than a month timeskip (which would take us to the beginning of March) to get to short sleeves weather in Indiana.
It would be nice if Joyce and Dorothy could actually think about the feelings of other people for more than a few minutes. Sarah deserves better than this.
I 100% assumed that Sarah was talking about the shirt conversation and was surprised so many people saw it as Joyce and Dorothy having sex! Interesting how people can have such different interpretations of the same comment
The shirt conversation absolutely sounds like a prelude to sexy times, and as such Sarah is entitled to react as badly to it as she’d react to actual sex sounds, so I don’t personally think it matters either way.
It matters for comments like the one several comments above this that reference consent. Sarah not consenting to people banging in the same room (important!) vs Sarah not consenting to listening to her roomie flirt with her new gf (not as important!)
Yeah, I can see that POV, but I think in particular a “flirt” that’s a literal invitation to strip her down while Sarah’s around is closer to the former than the latter.
I meant that I disagreed that a flirt which was an invitation to take someone’s shirt off was closer to banging in the same room (where consent would be important) than it was to flirting in the same room (where it’d be silly to expect everyone’s consent).
The panel from the Patreon definitely puts paid to the question about what they’re doing, but doesn’t change anything I’ve said! <3
Yeah, I hear yah. I also suspect strongly that it depends on how likely one feels it is to be “just a flirt” as opposed to “a prelude to actual sexy times” and I am not giving these two ANY benefit of the doubt on being able to successfully moderate the horny.
Considering Willis apparently posted an image of what they’re doing rn on the nsfw Patreon, as per a post on the doa Tumblr, they’re definitely doing more than talking about Joyce’s shirt. That’s some nasty ass shit dawg ngl. Apparently Willis themself was Sarah in this situation back in college
Especially because it’s making more work for Willis. Which implies it’s being done by a troll rather than an anti-hater, as most of the latter at least claim to care about Mx. Willis’ mental health in re the comment section.
Yeah, I’ve always assumed it was a troll or someone who got pissy about “being forced to complain in one specific spot instead of getting to complain everywhere” which like… no one is forcing you, dude, but okay.
Honestly, I like the hater thread. Whenever Tony pops up I’mma be in it letting my hater flag fly.
I doubt it’s just someone being mad that they have to post there. I’ve seen enough comment sections of controversial things where the people who enjoy it end up FURIOUS that people dare to post comments about being unhappy with it. The Not Always Right comment section would (will?) occasionally get people making vitriolic personal attacks against anyone who dares to doubt the legitimacy of a story, or sometimes just complaints about how the people doing so refuse to “let people enjoy things”.
Considering the threshhold of reports before a post actually disappears, it could well be a combination of people who dislike being ‘contained’, people who dislike having to scroll past a whole thread of ‘hate’, people who are trolling, and of course a couple misclicks.
As a Joyrothy lover, I hope it’s a troll or trolls rather than like-minded commenters. Not only is it rude and an abuse of system, it’s bad for us Joyrothy fans because it spreads the hate out through the comments rather than keeping most of it in one easily skippable thread.
Honestly, if we make the (hard to quantify the quality) assumption that it’s people who’ve sounded off about disliking the hater thread, I’d guess it’s half “Doyce shippers who think hating the ship is prima facie equivalent to bigotry” and half “angry haters/trolls who don’t like the idea that they are being asked to be somewhat civil”. We’ve had, by my count, about 3-6 of each category over the year.
I do kind of like the idea that it’s an unwitting coalition of hater-haters and haters who hate to be contained. Who would probably hate the idea of cooperating with each other.
I think a dedicated troll makes more sense since Willis keeps reporting it. It’s gotta be someone who thinks it’s funny that Willis keeps bringing it back, after all. People who want it to go away for non-trolly reasons must realize by now that it won’t work.
I doubt any of them will stay gone forever, though.
Willis should also start tracking IPs with the report link click, just so that at least they know what’s going on. Right now there’s this awesome atmosphere of fear and paranoia brewing, and it suuuucks.
I’ll put my same post that was deleted in the hate thread:
Someone mentioned this yesterday but I’ve moved well beyond “hatred” and am firmly in “PLEASE ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES THIS” territory. 3+ months of essentially the same “Dorothy/Joyce cuteness/horny/grating/etc.” over and over has grown so stale. The small bits we got with Carla finally felt fresh, but we fell right back into this story line immediately lol. The pacing overall has grinded to halt and it’s been a rough read. Hopefully the alt text gives us hope for a breath of fresh air lol
Yeah, I don’t actually hate this, but I’m now fully on the side of everyone who would just like to check up on any other part of the plot, by now. There’s 100 hanging points of interest that I’m curious about. I get that the horny girls are horny. There is no more story to be explored here, until we expand on additional contexts from other perspectives.
See, the CORRECT course of action for Sarah here is very simple, she can either “start making microwave popcorn while ostentatiously staring at them” or “hit their bed with a broom repeatedly”, whatever actually gets through to these two jerks that they are not the first people to ever be in love and goddamn it being too horny to function is not an excuse for being a shithead to your friends and roommates.
I’m honestly actually annoyed at the earplugs/white noise suggestions scattered about the comments, but that’s mostly on behalf of Sarah who’s already had ONE shitty disruptive roommate situation that she had to deal with.
Honestly, she should just toss Dorothy out. She has her own room. Dunno why she thinks she can avoid awkwardness with the friend she “betrayed” by hooking up with Joyce by simply going into someone else’s room and continuing to hook up with Joyce while Sarah tries to sleep.
I mean, it’s pretty LITERALLY “avoiding” the situation by simply not being there. It’s a shitty strategy that doesn’t work in anything like the long term, but it does allow her to kick the can down the road a bit.
And that’s something that’s already a feature of their relationship on Day Two: “We COULD deal with all these drama bombs we have been setting off all over campus… naw, let’s hide in your room and fuck instead.”
My continued twofold hope is that some of the fallout from that eventually does blow back on them (right now it’s nowhere near them, and will only affect them to the extent they give a shit about what for example Becky, Sarah, Joe, Walky, etc. think — and so far, they’ve given significantly more time and energy to managing and dealing with what Hank and Asma might think of them, which is also a bad look!) and that (with the changing of the storyline) we might see less of their boring stupid-cute faces being boring and stupid and cute with each other.
That would make much more sense, but I enjoy the idea of her just stealing Dorothy’s bed instead. At least then Becky would have someone else in the room with her.
I mean, in defense of that suggestion, it would be better than what Sarah is currently doing, which is stewing in her displeasure mostly silently. Doesn’t mean it’s the only solution!
lol this was supposed to go elsewhere. I thought it didn’t go through at all and rewrote it and added more to it!
Anyway that’s fair enough. It depends on how directly Sarah wants to confront the issue right this minute, really, but either is better than what she is currently doing.
I’m genuinely surprised that some of us commenters are genuinely surprised that not everybody reads every comment, every day. I agree it’s getting annoying for everyone to make the same mistake for days in a row, but it’s also understandable that not 100% of the commenters down here are as obsessed as the usual suspects?
I know the mood between Dorothy and Joyce is playful, passionate and loving right now, but thanks to Sarah’s POV and comment just now, all Im hearing in my head is every last cartoon sound effect produced in the past 90 years by Warner Brothers, Hanna-Barbera and Ren & Stimpy. With a little Don Martin thrown in.
It’s only been a day and a half since Dorothy and Joyce confessed their feelings to each other. To be fair, I have been comparing DoA Joyce to her Walkyverse Counterpart after Walky finally confessed that he loved her and they got together, and even though they DID have sex, Walkyverse Joyce wasn’t a total horndog like DoA Joyce.
Amazing what 4-5 years can do for a person’s sexual urges. (Walkyverse Joyce was 22/23 in during that point, right?)
25, I think? 18 in Roomies!, so born 1979, and the finale of IW! I think takes place in 2004…? But there’s also the nine-month timeskip for Walky’s resurrection…
Ok, Wally’s resurrection was November 2004, so the finale is Feburary or March of that year. Can’t remember when Joyce’s birthday is so it’s either 24 or 25.
(This is a JOKE. I like hyperbole and “I’m going to kill you in real life” has become my new favorite response to mild annoyances from fictional characters. Blame the “Satan is not a fucking pogo stick” Tumblr post)
(This is NOT a joke, i like being serious and I think Sarah is a real living breathing person with moral culpability, who should commit two actions of first degree murder.)
Seriously, Sarah, you couldn’t have asked Tony to spend the night? You KNOW the floodgates have been opened the second Joycelyn told Joyce to sex up Dorothy, and Joyce has become a complete horndog now. I want to say you were the one that predicted Joyce would become a lust monster the second ahe lost her virginity but I think that was Dotty herself who said that. Right?
Frankly, Sarah strikes me as as too decent a human being to invite her boyfriend to stay the night without pre-arranging it and getting roommate buy-in first.
Damn you, Willis!
I stopped reading DoA in January. The events of last year seemed more distant in time.
How much time has passed since January?
3 days? 3 hours? 3 minutes?
mood Sarah, MOOD (-_-)
She has one of those.
Currently, even.
Joyce and Dorothy aren’t even getting frisky, they’re just playing a very distracting game of Scrabble
(good storyline, excited for to see what new trainwrecks tomorrow has in store for these two)
Joyce can’t help herself when her voice “slips out”; she got a TRIPLE WORD SCORE!
Sometimes board games aren’t as innocent as you think they are.
Don’t trust horny roommates.
Although I’m firmly in favor of as much Joyrothy sex as possible, I feel for Sarah here. Sharing a room in this situation is just really awkward. I wonder if she’s reflecting on how unlikely this situation would have seemed back in September.
I think she’s mostly reflecting on how much she does not want her roommate and her girlfriend to be getting frisky while she’s in the room

heck this is kinda why I created Dumbing Horse Race Test LOL
it’s all the fun of rooting for your favorite characters with whom ya have totally healthy parasocial relationships
MINUS the arguments with random internet strangers XD
What is this? Is it a game? Tapping had no discernible effect.
try tapping the “start race” button :p
a game, a toy, what have you lol
this is a fascinating little gizmo you’ve made. it’s like an advanced version of the dvd player logo bouncing around the screen
The third point is funny if you just really like a very obscure minor character.
I’m still waiting for Drew to come back.
Purple haired front desk worker at Forest Quad my beloved
I began shipping them with Asma from here on, so if things don’t work with Alice, I have a backup plan.
This would be nice to have to every page, as a counterpart to the hater thread lol
Thinking of it as a counterpart to the hater thread makes it feel more accusatory, like it’s aimed only at the haters.
i was speaking in jest at nobody in particular yeah

he, I take part in both. i can’t accuse myself 😛
But if I don’t have a take just minutes after the update, it’s like somebody asked me a question and I ignored them.
They never are, Sarah. They never are.
It can’t be that bad, there aren’t any sound effects.
Sarah apparently can FEEL the gayness occurring around her lol
I do believe Sarah has not actually consented to this.
The only thing that’s not completely giving them away is a lack of constant squeaking sounds…atleast I assume there isn’t because I’m not seeing sound effects text.
I like the lighting in these panels.
Sarah, stop being horny
Horny? I just read it as her trying to sleep & not wanting to listen to sex-noises while she does so.
She’s being the opposite of horny. If anything it’s apparently Joyce and Dorothy who are being horny.
oh damnit. Here, take that spray bottle, Sarah.
There’s that whole stack of newspapers she can roll. She might need them.
Sarah mentally debating which is worse: a roomie having sexy sounds or a drug-addicted roomie sobbing about her dead mom.
While I’m personally happy for Dorothy, and Joyce, despite the problems they’ve caused (and despite the haters) I don’t think it is fair to Sarah for them to be getting busy when she’s in the room trying to sleep unless she has said it is ok. Some roommates might not be bothered by it, but Sarah clearly is annoyed, and doesn’t seem to approve of it.
yes, but
Joyce is finally getting to have sex
so
that’s the only thing she cares about right now.
And, JUST TO PISS YOU OFF yhe story of DoA ends here. Thanks for reading! 🤭
I’d be pleased
If it would make you happy, you can literally do this for yourself. Just stop reading here, bam immediately story over. I’ve done that with plenty of webcomics over the years when I felt they’d run their course.
fff poor Sarah.
And it seems like Joyce is once again not telling Dorothy about Joe.
tbf we don’t know if she has anything she needs to tell Dorothy about Joe, she never finished her conversation with Joe. When she gets around to that she might just say “sorry but the swinger life isn’t for me, we can still be friends though” and that’ll be it.

Though Joyce seems to have embraced being a hussy since then, so who knows.
I think in Joyce’s worldview it isn’t being a hussy if you’re with the person. Anything she does with Dorothy doesn’t make her a hussy because they’re in a relationship.
I was thinking more of her saying earlier that she was vibing off transgressive feelings. Things like that, rather than just sex with Dorothy.

She does need to get back to him, but in this case I don’t think it’s a big deal that she hasn’t done it yet.
EXCEPT, when she and Dorothy were talking to Daisy, Dorothy said “We broke up with our boyfriends!” and then Joyce looks awkwardly to the side “Y-yeah.”
That says it’s not so clear cut.
Strongly disagree. If Partner A is invited to polyamory (or anything along those lines) they should immediately tell Partner B, even if they completely shut the idea down–which Joyce did not. I think that those several dogs don’t love the fairy tale romance as much as you might think. Dogs care more about food and scritches.
Yes, I know this is a cheap shot. I blame the English language and its conjunctive comma.
The punchline to that is that she is still dating Joe. In fact, through a complicated series of events, the kid is actually hers and Joe’s.
Pretty sure Sarah wouldn’t want Joyce doing that while she’s trying to sleep, either.
huh. never figured Joyce for a screamer
Their room is like 15’x8’x8′. She could be a whisperer and Sarah would probably still be able to hear her.

It’s very easy to modulate one’s voice, much harder to modulate the volume of one’s wet-ass pussy
Alternate title: Bottom bunk blues
Obligatory: they are not bunk beds, they are loft beds. Both beds are top bunks over a desk area. They are positioned foot-to-foot iirc.
literal HA 😀
i’m sorry sarah, you don’t deserve this xD
Settle down Sarah, they’re just talking about shirts.
She seems pretty settled down. That’s a very mild comment, tbh.
This aged like milk following the patreon preview post. 😀
Joyce: Having sex with Dorothy is my MORAL OBLIGATION!
Dorothy: it really is…
Joyce: WE WILL DO IT IN PUBLIC NEXT! DOWN WITH THE OPPRESSION!
Dorothy: I…
Dorothy introduces Joyce to The Beatles, has regrets when Joyce puts “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?” on loop for the next month.
I can’t believe they’re making out on top of Sarah’s legs. How inconsiderate of them.
I am once again incredibly grateful that every dorm room I had in college featured a completely private bedroom.
The shading in this one is absolutely gorgeous, the blue lights…
And Sara’s eyes!
There is no ‘on top’. Both bunks are at the same height. I have seen no privacy curtain. Sarah can probably see, as well as hear. them. How does Sarah use Mr Vibratey?
I find myself unable to even imagine shared rooms like this. But I’m not USAvian.
I think she most likely uses Mr Vibratey when Joyce isn’t in the room, like all good roommates.
There was one time she told Joyce that if she didn’t leave she was going to use it while Joyce was in the room. Joyce called her bluff. It wasn’t a bluff.
Good recall!
https://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/04-the-whiteboard-dong-bandit/bluffing/
Not only was Joyce calling that bluff, she was SPECIFICALLY trying to cockblock (vibe-block?) Sarah as opposed to “just being present”, IIRC.
Two words, Sarah: Wireless Earbuds.
Surf sounds, or Rain on a Tin Roof sounds, or whatever, looping on your phone to low-profile bluetooth earbuds. By the time their batteries run down you’ll be long asleep.
I take it a step further
well, STEPS
(I’m an autista who practically LIVES in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones T-T)
I really wish noise canceling headphones didn’t give me a headache.
Bleh.
well saw that coming but i’d think even if they were ‘quiet’ you’d still hear/feel movement from above
It has been repeated a few times but they don6have bunk beds. They have separate loft beds.
well, still close enough to hear movement either way i’d think
Well that’s just rude. Have sex when your roommate isn’t 3 feet away.
No, rude is people trying to put limits on Joyce or say she shouldn’t be having sex with her
newforever partner at all times, day or night./s
She refuses to accept the premise that there are times she shouldn’t kiss Dorothy.
She’s being heroically gay.
Kissing would probably be fine in this situation.
The problem is where she may or may not be kissing dotty rn
Is this the kind of noise level which can be solved with 30db earplugs?
As an avid fan of earplugs, yeah possibly! A white noise machine between the beds would help too.
aahhhhh, memories
cringey ones, in fact.
End of Storyline???
Damn, nothing more to see here then in that room.
Move along people, move along! 😛
Hold on, what about Dina and Becky? Don’t we deserve to know a little more about them? They were both pretty upset
The title of the next storyline – “I’m The Problem, It’s Me” – suggests that’s exactly what we are about to get.
Next storyline’s gonna focus in on that
Somebody pick up that phone, because I called it!
No. No they’re not.
Never been happier for an end of Storyline. That was almost never ending misery.
I regret to inform you that Joyce is still the main character of the comic and her problems and relationships will continue to be centralized in the coming story arcs. :<
This is true, but one can hope that other members of the ensemble will get a chance to take center stage for a bit, as they have previously.
That will be nice! But I worry ADL’s misery is just gonna keep returning because the story arc that created it isn’t done and is gonna keep returning.
Yeah, and I sympathize. But once these two are done with the honeymoon I think things will at least start to be more interesting.
I’m waiting for Dorothy’s control issues and Joyce’s being-controlled issues to clash again.
Fingers crossed!
It’s not about Joyce’s character status, it’s the actual misery other characters are feeling. Joe, Walky, Becky, and Dina are in hell and anyone in their orbits will feel it. That’s the misery that I’m hoping ends soon.
They’re gonna have to invent a new legal term for how hard Joyce and Dorothy are gonna get kicked out of the friend group if they keep this up.
Gayxile XD
Exgaymunication
Really anticipating a time skip pretty soon here, maybe not as drastic as the last, but probably at least a few weeks to a month. Largely because in a few panels Becky’s hairstyle appears to have grown out the undercut, and Joyce/Dorothy are shown outdoors(?) in short sleeves.
If so, that means that Joyce declined Joe’s suggestion to go poly. I am sad. I think I knew in my heart of hearts that it wouldn’t happen, but I wanted it to happen.
I’m still hopeful.
I think what Joe was suggesting was more of concurrent relationships. A real polycule means Joe and Dorothy would develop a better relationship. It could happen but will take time. Here’s hoping
There are many different kinds of polycules
Consenting concurrent relationships is poly. They’re just not all dating each other. It’s a hinge thing.
That is absolutely not what “a real polycule” is at all. People approach polyamory from different angles, some people have no interaction with their metamours at all.
Probably for the best, emotions are still too raw that otherwise we’d just have months of people still not communicating/talking/being hurt.
I will be genuinely furious if we just skip over the messy drama after I’ve been waiting so patiently for it
Agreeeeeeeeed
YEAH
FWIW I doubt we’d skip it exactly.
But it might be like Halloween where we skip ahead to friend groups having disintegrated and then there’s eventually a flashback.
Time to invest in some ear stoppers… OR a Shame Broom
My personal most successful approach was “microwave popcorn and staring like it’s a really good TV show”.
I disagree strongly with that, but I see how you get to that vibe. I just don’t match it.
We now have a panel from the NSFW Patreon to go by, and… yeah. It’s that.
I would actually commit a crime if I was in that situation. Not sure which one yet, but I’d be W I G G I N G out.
I’ve already advocated “aggressively impolite voyeurism”, which would technically be a crime if they weren’t deliberately doing this in front of me.
I would at least throw a pillow at them and call them nasty. Shame
Mx. Willis can I have my thread back please
This is just getting sad at this point.
@Li The counterpoint to THAT is that it doesn’t always come back.
I doubt any of them will stay gone forever, though.
Willis should also start tracking IPs with the report link click, just so that at least they know what’s going on. Right now there’s this awesome atmosphere of fear and paranoia brewing, and it suuuucks.
how long did it last before getting report’d to oblivion?
I saw it disappear this morning around 7:30am-ish, Eastern US time.
appreciate yr using mx instead of mr : )
Word.
but while I may hope for that, I’m not at all convinced it’s what Willis wants to happen, so. 😐
To be fair, managing what Hank might think was pretty high priority. He’s got a lot of leverage over Joyce’s life
Also true, but they were mostly managing what Hank might think about Jocelyne, not what Hank might think about Joyce.
Honestly, it burns me that she’s stewing instead of telling these two off.
What Willis needs to do is add an IP tracker to the report link.
lol this was supposed to go elsewhere. I thought it didn’t go through at all and rewrote it and added more to it!
Anyway that’s fair enough. It depends on how directly Sarah wants to confront the issue right this minute, really, but either is better than what she is currently doing.
I feel at this point, she’s justified in tapping the bottom with the end of a broom here.
Are people just persisting with the bunkbeds stuff as a troll now, Hank literally calls them lofts in the second strip.
Honk…tweak…squish…boing…twang…yoggity-yoggity…slurrrrp…
‘Hermione, Hermione… ‘ according to Robin in ‘Shortpacked’. Or the classic Willis ‘Thumpasprung’
“Hermoine Hermoine” now has me imagining the mysterious ticking noise… joyce gonna shout DUMBLEDORE! when she finishes.
Nobody should be making Mac and cheese at this hour.
But it’s always time for Kraft Dinner!
With or without pepper?
I have never related to or empathized with Sarah more than I have in this moment.
Welp. Monday Morning is approaching and they did basically nothing to brace their friends so the morning commute is gonna be fun I’m sure
Didn’t Walkyverse Joyce and Walky break at least one bed on their first night?
“There is no one on deck nine who does NOT know when you…”
Seven of Nine at her snarky finest.
I have the impression that’s Sarah stopped the smiling stream right after she figured out about Joyce and Dorothy.
Testing
Coming in 5X5
If you understand that you’re probably older than I am. 😀
I think Sarah should kill them in real life
(This is a JOKE. I like hyperbole and “I’m going to kill you in real life” has become my new favorite response to mild annoyances from fictional characters. Blame the “Satan is not a fucking pogo stick” Tumblr post)
wow seriously? im actually getting sikc from this, unbalivable you’;d wish such a thing on them. you should rethink your life, seriously /j
I think Sarah should kill them in real life
(This is NOT a joke, i like being serious and I think Sarah is a real living breathing person with moral culpability, who should commit two actions of first degree murder.)
I am tickled. I am deeply amused. I am touched. My evening is brightened.
🙂
aww yeah, satan pogo stick. i see someone appreciates the classics.
Sarah could embrace the fun and think of her new boyfriend in that context. Call it a sleeping aid.
Dorothy: YOU DO NOT PERCE-
Sarah: No
It’s invisibility, not inaudibility.
let sarah sleep my girl did nothing to deserve this
Seriously, Sarah, you couldn’t have asked Tony to spend the night? You KNOW the floodgates have been opened the second Joycelyn told Joyce to sex up Dorothy, and Joyce has become a complete horndog now. I want to say you were the one that predicted Joyce would become a lust monster the second ahe lost her virginity but I think that was Dotty herself who said that. Right?
Tony literally just said he thinks it’s unseemly for new couples to spend every night together, so I understand why Sarah is reluctant to do that.
Frankly, Sarah strikes me as as too decent a human being to invite her boyfriend to stay the night without pre-arranging it and getting roommate buy-in first.
Y’know, like a decent roommate.
Pretty sure “asked Tony to stay the night” in this case was supposed to be “asked Tony if it was all right for her to stay the night with him”.
I’ve genuinely never seen anyone so horny that they lose object permanence. Let alone two of them.
Yeah, like, I used to think *I* occasionally made subpar decisions when I was horny, but jaybus these two are beyond comprehension.
Damn you, Willis!
I stopped reading DoA in January. The events of last year seemed more distant in time.
How much time has passed since January?
3 days? 3 hours? 3 minutes?
January was Thursday. This is the last strip of Sunday.
One year to three days time ratio. No wonder we’ve all been going insane this year.
“Get a room, you two”
“…Oh right”
Okay, I don’t know if it’s him or me but it was 11:16pm my time and still no next day comic.
Server clock is having one of those days.
