Ruth probably has heard about the whole cheerleader thing and wondering how it might look on her if Billie went over the edge.
She’s right to wonder, in my opinion, Billie is turning into the Dumbing of Age equivalent of Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow.
Yeah, but on the other hand there’s Reasonable Suspicion. The cops aren’t allowed to pull you over and search your vehicle because you’re suspiciously not breaking any traffic laws…
I’m not exactly sure how Billie could justify calling Walky a “coward” when, again, he owes her nothing under the circumstances. Not to mention it makes Billie look like a hypocrite.
I have to agree with Ruth; he did make the right decision.
Coward? Why would Walky want to even help Billie right now? All she’s been doing for the last few strips is rag on him. If he wants her help with standing up to people who are hating on her, she needs to quit doing the same.
God, Billie is starting to get on my nerves.
That said, I <3 Ruth. Put her in her place, Ruth!*cheers*
B – “Your overconfidence is your weakness.”
R – “Your faith in your friend is yours.”
B- “No way, Walky will have my back. Right Walky? Walky? Come back here, Walky, you coward!”
To be fair, Ruth is RIGHT. Billie drinks regularly, unless we missed her completely cleaning up her act in the last four days. And Ruth would know Billie drinks because, c’mon, why else would she take the bottles from her room? And it’s on that file the mail lady had, which Ruth’s probably seen, so she knows to look out for it.
That doesn’t make Ruth’s METHODS right, and it certainly doesn’t give her the right to keep making Billie’s life a living hell seeing as she doesn’t have hard evidence and there’s no roommate dispute involved. (RAs, if I have this right, are in charge of conflict resolution, nothing else.) But Billie is secretly up to no good. This much is true.
Ruth explicitly knows, she mentioned to Billie she knows stuff is missing from her dorm.
And I explicitly said Billie’s drinking wasn’t a good excuse for Ruth to make her life a living hell, I only said that Ruth is right about Billie being up to no good.
Ruth is a nut job, all she needs is jackboots. Billie is a nut job, but she dosn’t deserve Ruth. Walkys smart enough to know when to make himself scarce. He’s a smart coward.
I love (LOVE) Dumbing of Age, but as an RA, I’m kind of confused…are people’s experiences with RAs really that bad? I mean damn, Ruth takes “RA terror” to a whole new limit. I’m not offended, I just hope she doesn’t turn people off of RA-ing!
I’m pretty sure that the character of Ruth isn’t supposed to be representative of RA’s in general, it’s just that Ruth is a control freak. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t confront other characters as she does with Billie (unless they skip out on a meeting, she’ll find them and drag them to it) but that’s more because of the personal disliking towards her and I don’t think Ruth has ever even gotten to confront Billie about the last couple of times she approached her. Either she’s confronting her about that, or she’s just trying to kick her ass. Now that I think about it, she might not even be RA anymore…
Most people should know RA’s can vary. You’ve got, the good, bad, and crazy, and so on. Mine for example were good folk, but kinda negligent. We’d see them around, but they rarely did much as RA’s except check us in on the first day, check out out on the last, and occasionally offer suggestions on how to get around the area.
Honestly, watching Billie and Ruth fight is like watching two movie villains fight. Neither one is morally superior to other, but it is still awesome no matter who ends up on top.
Eh, I’d call it Grey v Black, not Black v Black, morality wise. Billie’s kind of a bongo but that kind of pales in comparison to being thieving and violently confrontational.
Thieving and *destructive*, to boot. I doubt Billie would steal and then maliciously and systematically damage something from someone else, just because she had “picked a target.” (I’m not going to utterly slam Ruth or anything, but it really does feel like she’s doing what she can to get rid of Billie, even though Ruth is the one who threw the gauntlet down first and started this.)
You sure? She strikes me as taking aim at her favorite target again (and again, proving herself unworthy of her position, as those in authority should not have most hated or most loved, as either leads to abuse of power, which we’ve seen a lot of from this psycho already.)
I’m not so sure. Look at her expression here. She doesn’t even seem that hostile. Billie’s reaction to her presence could account for all of what we have seen from here so far in this scene. I wouldn’t even say she took aim at her favorite target… her favorite target strolled in front of her and reminded her that she IS a target. We’ll see what comes next, though.
…I think I’m honestly starting to hate Ruth. She is like the worst character ever, aside from maybe Super Robo-Hitler. (Godwin’s, btw.) I really hope there’s some sort of in-story explanation for WHY she’s such a massive tool.
A kooky group of characters going to school together, related by tangents both broad and sublime, suddenly called on to defend the world from the Forces of Darkness?
We’re one Rita Repulsa “After 10,000 years I’m free! It’s time to destroy the Earth!” away from having 5 of the crew from DoA becoming the next set of Rangers.
Ugh. Suddenly, Ruth actually really reminds me of this one supervisor we had. He got a real bug up his ass when the new owners took over (his own job was suddenly on the line if he didn’t ride us hard) and when one of the other workers told him that he was being a complete dick and that everyone pretty much hated him now, he replied, “Good. That means I’m doing my job right.”
No, Tom. No, it doesn’t. It just means you’re being a dick. You listening, Ruth?

Where did Hollywood go so wrong? I thought movies were supposed to be an escape from reality, a chance to put your worries aside and not have to think about any underlying ideas or concepts. Well, not anymore.

It's not a new argument, of course, but Chesterton dismissed it effectively in 1908.
"You will hear everlastingly... this argument that the rich man cannot be bribed. The fact is, of course, that the rich man is bribed; he has been bribed already. That is why he is a rich man."

wilbur, savvy enough to know he's in a comic strip but still not a great actor, awkwardly lifts a muffin up into frame so that we, the audience, understand that he has a muffin right now, which is very important narratively, but he's not really selling it well as an organic, human action
confirming that the reason there's been no Galaxy Version female characters in Blokees until now is that they felt they needed to make Round Lady Thighs For Ladies
She’s going to pull a dagger out from within her mind and stab Ruth with it like some strange combination of Utena and FLCL.
man…that’s the coolest sounding thing ever…
That makes Sal the Rose Bride then.
Oooh, Black/White 2 Protagonist girl! I love the giant hair buns.
Nice to know someone knows who she was for a change.
I could totally see Billie riding a Vespa with a guitar on her back while awesome music plays in the background..
No…no wait, that’s Sal.
Ride on shooting star~
Sal’s too cool for a vespa. She rides a big girl bike.
Wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. That would make Walky Akio. I’m not seeing it.
Habitwise, Walky is closer to being like Chuchu than anyone else, unless you want to visualise Dios wearing PJ jeans.
Thank you, I think my brain just melted.
From two years in the future, I comment to say:
BEST COMMENT EVER.
Also, now I want to see some sort of Dumbverse/Utena crossover.
I think Ruth is concerned about Billie’s mental state.
She’s concerned that Billie hasn’t totally lost it yet and plans on rectifying that oversight.
That too.
Ruth probably has heard about the whole cheerleader thing and wondering how it might look on her if Billie went over the edge.
She’s right to wonder, in my opinion, Billie is turning into the Dumbing of Age equivalent of Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow.
The Cheerleader.
…Honestly…I’m kinda with Ruth on that logic…
Except ruth cant exactly complain since she also drinks and seems to break the rules a lot.
It’s not just the pot calling the kettle black here, the pot has written up a new draft of Jim Crow laws for the sack of Fuck that Kettle.
What a douche.
she’s still in charge. If someone may be up to no good it is your job to check up on it regardless of personal moral standing.
Yes, but Ruth is not above the law simply because she enforces it. This isn’t ye olde England.
I am having trouble seeing Amazi-Girl as Robin Hood.
That’s because Amazi-Girl is Robin DeSanto. Politician by day, vigilante by night. It’s a very busy work schedule.
That explains that “being Batman is totally legal” bill she keeps trying to push through.
She sells it to her base by telling them that Batman uses guns so it’s totally a gun rights thing.
Yeah. Walky’s the coward, but who’s taking the dudivator specifically to avoid Ruth? At least he waited until Ruth actually showed up to turn tail.
I just want to know how he got out of Billie’s vice-like grip. Or at least being pinned between Ruth and Billie.
he got out of billie’s grip by finding her booze stash.
Coward? Why would Walky want to even help Billie right now? All she’s been doing for the last few strips is rag on him. If he wants her help with standing up to people who are hating on her, she needs to quit doing the same.
God, Billie is starting to get on my nerves.

B – “Your overconfidence is your weakness.”
R – “Your faith in your friend is yours.”
B- “No way, Walky will have my back. Right Walky? Walky? Come back here, Walky, you coward!”
You rock.
Geez, Ruth, not like she’s started making trouble in your neighborhood.
Honestly. Ya get in one little fight, the RA gets scared, and says “You’re gonna miss some letters till the agreements here.”
I tried. All that matters.
Well Billie and her got in one little fight and she got scared.
LOVE. So much of it. From me. To you. Ragnal. <3
KNIFE EYE ATTACK!
For those who don’t get the reference, here: http://drmcninja.com/archives/comic/10p40/
Enjoy.
Billie needs to either become a ninja or grow out her Sache before being about to pull that off.
Sal, as we know, is a ninja, and Amazi-Girl lacks hair on here face, but she has a fat handlebar growing on her heart.
Silly Billie, can you honestly expect Walky to face Ruth without changing into a pair of PJ Jeans?
he gotta be stylin’
He gotta be comfy.
I mean he is facing Ruth.
If he is going to soil his pants they might as well be the comfortable ones.
and absorbant.
Maybe he needs to needs a pair of nappy-daks.
I know I’m going to regret asking this, but what are nappy-daks?
A cross between nappies(diapers) and underdaks(underpants).
Basically adult diapers that LOOK like underpants.
I feel like Ruth really needs to see a therapist.
Therapy is for losers.
…
I made myself cry.

(RAs, if I have this right, are in charge of conflict resolution, nothing else.) But Billie is secretly up to no good. This much is true.
What no good is she up?
Has Ruth seen her drink/drunk? No.
We know she drinks, but so what? Has it cause any problems at all none the less ones within the dorm? No.
Imagine if a cop pulled you over and did this too you, and someone said “Well you did speed a few days days ago.”
Actually. I forgot about Billies blackmail material on Ruth. Still though, I don;t think Ruth would know she seemed pretty messed up.
Ruth explicitly knows, she mentioned to Billie she knows stuff is missing from her dorm.
And I explicitly said Billie’s drinking wasn’t a good excuse for Ruth to make her life a living hell, I only said that Ruth is right about Billie being up to no good.
That is some convoluted logic, Ruth.
Billie… I think the lady requires your butt.
Also, Billie has blackmail material. Of course Ruth is looking to confront Billie, Ruth wants to make a deal.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
Ruth is a nut job, all she needs is jackboots. Billie is a nut job, but she dosn’t deserve Ruth. Walkys smart enough to know when to make himself scarce. He’s a smart coward.
He knows when to run and live to fight another day.
Or to run another day. You know, depending.
My RA is actually a really nice lady. A bit too…Bonding Exercise oriented for my tastes, but hey, at least she’s not stealing my shit.
Exactly- she symbolizes abused authority, like Chang on Community.

Well, I just get the impression that Billie is the bottom of this relationship…
Oh, like you weren’t thinking it yourself!
…Are you a psychic?
Aww, I just finished going through the archive, now I have to wait for more comics!
…….. I’d ship it.
This seems like one of those ships that just wouldn’t work for some reason.
Imagine the destructo nookie though!
Sinking ships sell movies though. Heard of Titanic?
Ugh, don’t remind me. The ship that sold (and sank) that movie wasn’t the one with the smokestacks, though.
I’d ship it … to Antarctica.
Ugh. I hate that “you’re doing everything right, so something must be wrong” attitude.
Interesting: Ruth comes off more as a suspicious authority figure and less of a complete psycho despot on this page.
You sure? She strikes me as taking aim at her favorite target again (and again, proving herself unworthy of her position, as those in authority should not have most hated or most loved, as either leads to abuse of power, which we’ve seen a lot of from this psycho already.)

it’s supper effective.
“I am stabbing you with my mind” is kind of a nerd line, Billie.
I agree. She should have said “Billie daughter of Dolf will cut off your womanhood and feed it to the goats!”
More “cut out“. And eww.
Still hate Ruth with a burning passion >:T
You and me both. Bleeding psycho…
Welcome to what we call a “no-win situation” Billie.
If you step out of line even once, Ruth makes your life hell.
If you keep your nose clean, Ruth assumes you’re just doing it to avoid drawing attention to yourself and makes your life hell anyway.
This is also what we call “someone who should never have been made R.A.”.
…I think I’m honestly starting to hate Ruth. She is like the worst character ever, aside from maybe Super Robo-Hitler. (Godwin’s, btw.) I really hope there’s some sort of in-story explanation for WHY she’s such a massive tool.
Just because you’re up to no good doesn’t mean you’re not THINKING about being up to no good.
NOT up to no good, I mean.
And that’s no good!
Thanks sonic!
“Beck elevator”?
An elevator to Beck, the male wing of the dorm. Clark is the female wing.
Huh… funny how Clark is a male name and Beck could be either.
Do we even know why Ruth was crying alone in her room last time we saw her when Billie was hiding in her closet?
Because she knew that Billie was hiding in the closet and wished she would come out and make sweet sweet love to her?
Okay….is it just me or does anyone else see this?
A kooky group of characters going to school together, related by tangents both broad and sublime, suddenly called on to defend the world from the Forces of Darkness?

There we go. Seems legit. The others can be in season two.
02 doesn’t exist.
It’s like Highlander 2, Beast Machines and Brave Command Dagwon’s OVA sequel—if any of those actually existed.
…Which makes her distinctly different from you, being *openly* up to no good.
Agh, when are those two just gonna admit they love each other already?!
