Yeah, sexuality isn’t defined by current interest or relationship. The only person to say she’s a lesbian is Howard and 1) she disagreed and 2) jesus, would you take Howard’s word for anything else? Really? Kid means well, but honestly thinks “Show me Game of Thrones!” is an appropriate thing to do when visiting your sister for the first time in… quite a while.
Actually, I’m not really sure the Ruth said she wasn’t lesbian. I think she said she wasn’t sure — but her comment to Billie later on (that they’d found out that she ‘liked girls’,) suggests that she was toning it down for her brother.
Of course, I thought the moment when her brother told Billie to take care of Ruth was unbearably touching…

That too, but I think it was more of the fact that, as far as we know, Ruth could be either lesbian or bisexual (and the latter seems likely, seeing as she pretty much said Billie was her first girl crush, meaning that before she thought she was either straight or asexual).

Boxers, tighty-whities, panties… i’m sure there are other names/types too, but i can’t think of any.

And this doesn’t even get into regional terms– here in the South, for instance, people refer to underoos as “drawers” or “underdrawers”. (Pronounced “droors” or “draw-ers”, depending on the flavor of Southern drawl going on.)
On the other side of the statement (as I wrote this long-ass explanation and then thought “maybe I should just link the Wiki article” and then forgot the other half of what I was gonna say) trousers/jeans/et cetera are what Americans call pants commonly, although I do remember during a period that I was caretaking for a nonagenarian that she referred to her underthings as “pants”, so it may well be a (relatively) recent shift.
The common term is “underwear.” Sometimes “underpants.”
In america pants are the equivalent of trousers.
Also, knickers are calf-length trousers, what Brits might call plus fours, I believe. Sal used knickers to refer to undergarments, but that is very unusual; she probably got it from Jason.
I have only ever heard “knickers” used in older work or stuff set in the past, and in the phrase “(don’t) get your knickers in a twist”. It isn’t really a current word, at least not in the western US. Maybe in the South?

He’s not showering before going to class. I don’t know about other folks, but I get quite ripe if I don’t have a shower every day.
It also depends on how hot the day is, when it’s hot, you can smell the rot.
I think the implication is that Walky smells regardless.
That’s because he doesn’t seem to bother even with the smell test when it comes to his clothing.
Some of us can’t smell
I assumed it was because he’s going to wear the shirt he slept in, but sure, if he hasn’t had a shower since last morning, he might smell.
Before workdays, I usually shower in the evening. Makes the morning routine shorter so I can sleep a little longer.

It’s kind of funny how Ruth didn’t seem phased by Walky in his undahpants. Guess maybe that’s not super uncommon in the dorms.

Amazi-Girl must have left Clark Wing before Walky got to Ruth, meaning she must have been there when Amazi-Girl was summoned to track down the Whiteboard Bandit, but of course nobody wanted to bother the only girl there that was affected and is also mean and scary. It also means that either Amazi-Girl has now seen the amazing D&MM-pants of Walky, or she took a different route. Then Amazi-Girl got to Mike before Ruth and Walky did, but Amazi-Girl had already left, no doubt evading Ruthless by way of an alternative route, which indicates that Amazi-Girl has not seen Walky’s amazing D&MM-pants.
There is a lot of to and fro between the wings even before everyone is getting dressed,, and Mike is the only one to bear witness to it. Mike knows all!
Other things that could have gotten Billie to talk:
1) Did you hear? They just lowered the drinking age to 18.
2) There’s some jocks having a naked towel fight in the hall. Should I tell them to pipe down so you can sleep?
3) Someone ran a Dragons cheerleader uniform up the flagpole. Wonder where they got it.
4) Joyce has announced her intention to “Get in on this Slipshine thing”, and wants to know where she can find one of those take-a-number machines that goes up to a billion.
5) My sister wants to know if you’d be interested in “experimenting” with her, but I told you you aren’t into science.

Speaking of blushing, I now notice Walky doesn’t have those rosy cheeks that most of the others have. I thought for a moment that maybe it’s because of his dark skin, but then I saw Sarah in the banner, and she has rosy cheeks AND dark skin, so it can’t be that.
If he’s rooming with Mike, that makes this room rosy-cheek free. Hell, today’s page completely is rosy-cheek free.

I know that Amber/Amazi-Girl does not appear in this strip, but I just have to say it. I would love to see a retro 16-bit video game with Amazi-Girl. How much money do you need on Kickstarter? It’s not like you could find programming friends once you got the money.
Or you could learn to program in javascript yourself and do the whole thing using the graphic capabilities added to the new version of html. Or, as you say, using kickstater money and the programming friends that money could buy you. The sticking points are having a detailed vision of the way the game should work and intelectual property rights AKA permission from Willis.

Has nobody else noticed Ruth’s sad ‘Goody’ in panel 2? Poor thing, well, as poor as Ruth can be.
I’ve read all of dumbing of age so far, but not the Walkyverse stuff. I don’t get it. What is the attraction of this character? He seems to me generally dumb and selfish and that’s it. Don’t like him at all. Is he supposed to be a “bad boy” (like a male version of his sister) or something? I checked the wikia but it didn’t really explain (there’s something about how he keeps having responsibility shoved onto him or something as he tries at every turn to dodge it… but that’s not endearing ini the least! ( and i think that’s from the Walkyverse, not here, though it would certainly apply to THIS comic))
In the other universe, Walky is a lovable doofus. He’s very different. Really the main thing they have in common is rampaging immaturity.
Hmm. Alright, thanks for the clarification. “Rampaging immaturity” definitely does come through in DoA. But the other characters (e.g. obviously Dorothy) seem to like him for some reason and so do readers in the comments section here. I assume (at least for the readers) it’s because he’s the main character (by name) in the other universe(s), but based on what he’s like here i was having trouble imagining how that could be. (Did i mention that i don’t care for him?

Sickly hung over pallor aside, Billie looks really cute in the fourth panel.
I really hope that the next two or ten strips focuses on Billie and Ruth, and that even if there is some sort of emotional blow-up on the part of one or both of them, it isn’t at the end of the scene, culminating in one of them storming off… I want this scene to end on a hopeful note! (Oh, who am I kidding? I want it to end with another Slipshine comic… But for now, I’ll take vaguely reconciliatory hopefulness…)
As for Mike… Who wants to bet he’s off to start a life of super villainy, so that he can experience more Amazi-tackles? And thus, an arch nemesis is born!

Heh. Billie is back in yellow and blue, while Ruth is wearing black and green; I find it amusing that for this confrontation, they’re back in the same colour scheme as when they first met.
For that matter, they’re back in their Roomies! colour schemes.
Sadly, I don’t support the Ruth/Billie ship because while there’s some interesting things going on there–it’s kind of depressing. I’d like to see Ruth with someone who isn’t a bundle of issues and the same for Billie. Maybe Ruth/Carla or Ruth/Malaya (oddly enough) because R/B have SIMILAR issues and they kind of feed each other’s worst side. In RL, I’d tell them to get the hell away from each other. The codependency isn’t the kind of thing which I think works.
