I would say ‘non-existent’. Being heterosexual doesn’t just mean being sexually attracted to the opposite sex; it means being sexually attracted exclusively (or almost exclusively) to the opposite sex. Danny’s attraction to Ethan could be a fluke, leaving Danny confused yet still basically heterosexual, but Word of God says otherwise.
Bisexual the term was kinda created for the purpose of having a word to describe it because hetero and homo sexual were defined as specifically one or the other though. Lingustically anyway. Same with “bicurious” a word was created due to a sociological need, due to the definitions of both H-sexual words (I can not remmeber the word for that lol)
Saying one or another or neither is a false dichotomy. ‘Bisexual’ is a blanket term for people who can easily and naturally become sexually aroused by either men or women. Some of us are genuinely ‘both’. Others of us are panromantic and demisexual or panromantic and het/hom towards one gender and demi towards another. To outsiders, we all get lumped into a single bucket; our internal experience is typically much more nuanced.
Yeah. Many ‘heterosexual’ people are actually ‘heteroflexible.’ Surveys showed that 1 out of 8 admitted to having a same sex attraction, crush or fantasy at some point.
For pete’s sake NOWHERE in any of the recognized definitions of homosexuality, heterosexuality or bisexuality does it specify TO WHAT DEGREE one person is attracted to that gender(s). That’s something that is unique to every individual person. If folks stopped obsessing on whether “I’m straighter/gayer/bi-er than you” than we wouldn’t need all the ridiculous new terms.
I was going to suggest she was getting a metallic costume with a high collar and a cape that attaches weirdly. And also she’s a jerk now. Because DRAMA!
I never understood why Trojan went with that name as their brand, I mean Trojans are best known for the wooden horse incident and that doesn’t instill the greatest confidence in me that sperm won’t, you know, infiltrate.

Indeed. And I’m glad this situation JessWitt up. Because if it cannot crack out of its shell, the chick will die without truly being born. Also, “Go deeper” sounds like the perfect catch phrase for basically anyone who ever took a drive with Ends of the World. If you know what I’m saying.
Yeah. Amber’s always had…issues. But that first person plural, and the fact that she corrects herself, that is a first in this strip. It’s a kind of dark plot point to introduce at this time.
Yeah, maybe everyone loves amazi-girl right now. And maybe even amber loves amazi-girl right now (now that she thinks she’s in the clear for having harassed sal and putting a man in the hospital). It may make amazi-girl happy for a while but, at the end of the day, amber is going to have to admit she isn’t amazi-girl. And none of that other crap can disguise the fact that amber doesn’t really love herself.
When did that even actually happen? He was not dating Amber at that point in time. In fact, he proved himself to be a very dedicated person in that he did not cheat on Amazi-Girl with Amber, and was trying to not cause such a problem. If anything, she should probably actually feel relieved. He also WAS there for her at her lowest, when she succumbed to her rage and beat the fuck out of Blaine, and helped her make her getaway.
While I don’t think he handled that situation quite right he also had no idea she was so vulnerable or what the hell was going on with her at all since she wouldn’t tell him.
Yeah, he dumped the creepy stalker girl who was pretending to be his girlfriend when he already said he had a girlfriend. He also admitted he liked her. He distanced himself from her because he knew he liked her and he wanted to respect his relationship with Amazi-girl. Had they not been the same person, Amber undoubtedly would have just been kinda creepy.
It sucked for Amber but it was the right thing for Danny to do given the information he had. Besides, it might have given her the needed push to work on her hella issues and integrate instead of compartmentalize.
That being said I wonder if Joe will figure out AG’s identity if Danny and Amber start dating (er, openly?), since he knows Danny’s involved with AG and is serially monogamous.
Even if Joe actually registered that Danny was dating Amazi-Girl–and he really didn’t seem to–Danny gave him the general impression they were broken up. He’ll just assume Danny moved on, as he predicted Danny would.
Has no one considered how bad this love triangle might be for Amber? Ethan damaged Amber quite a bit, when he discovered his true orientation on their prom night. If Danny should realize _he_’s gay, and breaks up with Amber – BECAUSE OF ETHAN – this could… well, Amber’s pretty broken, already, but this could make the damage irreparable.
It’s already been determined that there are logistical difficulties with doing it with the costume on. Especially ’cause she’s got civvies on underneath.
Can’t speak for anybody else, but almost any combination of gloves and boots and nothing else is super hot to me. In this case keeping the mask would also be acceptable.
OMG I totally agree with you. I’ve seen one or two pornos where the guy’s humping away, naked except for his socks and it–yeah, I have no idea why but I find it really repulsive.
She does have a sharpie. The only character I can recall who does have one. And someone drew with a sharpie on the girls’ dorm whiteboards. And Amazi-Girl is getting lots of warm fuzzies and accolades from her sleuthing.

She seemed surprised and kinda annoyed by it, particularly the whole “Have any villains? Only the whiteboard ding dong bandit” thing, which was completely in private.

I don’t know. I think she means “We (Dan and her) needed some time. Er, I needed a reboot (and perhaps she shouldn’t be speaking for Dan too, so she’s only including herself).”
Serious split personality stuff seems unlikely given just this one line.
You know, I kind of had this thought, that he’s seeing Amazi-Girl for the first time in a while and all of his dialogue addresses her as such. It doesn’t really touch on her as Amber? I wonder how this interaction would have gone down if she had already changed out of her costume?
…Also I’m still wondering how THIS interaction is going to go down. Prediction: not good. Danny will Dan it up by saying he’s really not sure right now and he needs to figure out some things first. She’ll be confused/hurt and wonder if there’s another woman (nope) and shit will kind of go downhill from there.
Remember that when she saw Billie trashed in the hallway and had to decide if she was AmaziGirl for this interaction or Amber for it? She doesn’t have two different compartments, much as she might wish that she did. (In fact, that moment was an incredibly heathy one: she recognized that she was a single person and had to make a choice among alternatives.)
I don’t think it’s necessarily insisting; He was caught off guard by the voice and probably hasn’t entirely over lapped the two in his head yet after thinking of them as different people for so long.
Now, if she starts talking about personal problems or things go further and he keeps using “Amazigirl” [outside of maybe a flirt-y context in the later case], that would be where it started to get wierd.
If her mask slips during coitus, does that mean that Danny accidentally ends up fucking Amber? (Leave it to Danny to Danny up having immoral premarital relations with Amazi-Girl.)
I thought the hash lines were just general emotional rush, while turned-on-ness was rendered through a change in status of the genitals.

The hashlines can also indicate embarrassment — it’s just an abnormal flushing of the cheeks, versus the indication of general status quo rosiness the everpresent ovals represent.
I messed up the alt-text that would have made that comment sound less sarcastic. It referenced MST3K, in the Outlaw of Gor episode Crow says, “I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I’m all out of ass.” Incidentally that line is what I wanted to bring up all along.

Well, in Amber/AG’s defense she might have been thinking that both she and Danny needed the downtime to sort out their feelings, thus the word choice of ‘we’.
It was then she realized the one who needed more time alone to sort things out was her, not Danny (she also realized she was speaking for him) and changed it to ‘I’ to show her admitting she was the one who needed the time.
I’ll admit the odds are more in favor of that slip-up indicating the still-fractured state of her personas, but at least there is an option that’s not as dreadful
I sort of assumed the same. I sort of read it as Amber saying to Danny; “We needed some time apart… Actually, I was sort of the one who Dannied this up, wasn’t I?”
Though, I’d also be willing to lend credance to the split persona theory, if only because it is more interesting.
I don’t know that it would, though. I mean, she would not be thrilled at first if two consecutive boyfriends had essentially left her for each other, but one can hope she’d get over it.

Born in the ’50s, came of age in the ’70s, and never had anyone – male or female – come on to me anywhere near as blatantly as this. Maybe they could tell I was a conscientious objector when it came to the Sexual Revolution.
Is it me or is Amber super short in this strip? Right now she’s a head smaller than Dan-o, but Dan-o is a little less than a head shorter than Ethan, which would make Ambr at least a head-and-a-half shorter than Ethan.
Danny is going to Dan this up. This is tailor-made for him to Dan it up, and with everything that happened the last few days I will have trouble holding it against him.

That smile in the third panel… and how he reacts in the fourth one! And I love the way she gets closer to him in the fifth panel! I’m a bit worried for these two, I hope nothing happens now that they’ll regret later, but this page felt wonderful right now. I dunno how it will feel later, though.
That said, while I like Danny, I have trouble sympathizing with where he is emotionally, that need to “reassert his heterosexuality”, like it was some all-important status thing he needed to prove to someone.
Partly because, for most of my life, I never thought about if I was hetero, pan, homo, male, female, whatever. I was just me. Didn’t think of it in those terms. The first ever person I fell in love with was male, and the second female, about 2-3 years apart. I was surprised to fall in love with them, because I’d been close friends with them for over a year each before I felt any romantic interest. But I didn’t even consider their gender into it.
Labels was something other people did, things that people said about me after I did things. I just didn’t think about it, myself.
And so, the thing Danny is going through right now, and it is certainly something I’ve seen many others go through before him, is always odd to me. I just cannot grasp why you would not be with the people you want to be with, because it wouldn’t fit your current label. Just do what you want to do, be with the people you want to be with, and then when old labels don’t fit anymore, find a new one, if it is that important to you.
Importance of happiness > importance of labels. Every. Time.
A label isn’t just a word you use to describe yourself, though. It’s a lot more complicated than that and it can have very deep meaning. It represents expectations, both internal and external, and those can be very powerful and very important to you, even if they’re stupid expectations based in crap.
They can even define your whole view of reality. I grew up in Utah and while I was aware of the word “gay,” it wasn’t… It wasn’t a thing. I felt like what that word described didn’t even exist on the same reality as me. It existed off somewhere else on another plane of existence entirely. I don’t think it really hit me until really late into high school what was going on in my head or in my pants and what that meant. Sure, this “sexual attraction thing” happened with males and not so much with females. But I didn’t have the words to describe or understand these feelings because “gay” wasn’t something compatible with “me.” For a long time, it felt as insane as considering myself a Jedi. Eventually, I figured it out, but it took a long time, and I probably would have been totally fucked without the internet.
Oh, and my parents aren’t particularly religious and while I was exposed to Christianity, I wasn’t really indoctrinated. This was all just because of the culture around me.
I certainly agree that people’s happiness is more important than labels. But these things have power over some of us whether we want them to or not, so we need to deal with them. Be glad that you don’t have to worry about them as much.

I guess part of my dissonance is that I very seldom consider the labels to be *me*… just a simplified approximation of one aspect of me. Also, being a person who does not generally find people sexually attractive, I have trouble seeing the difference between the sexualities hetero/homo/bi/pan, because it looks like the same basic desire, same basic way that desire is expressed, slightly different object of affection.
But knowing what you are, while lacking the words to describing it, while there is a word that fits, but you cannot imagine being “you”… that, I can sympathize with. Because that’s basically me and polyamory. I knew that I didn’t feel jealousy in any significant capacity, I knew that I thought the reasoning behind what is a close friend and what is a person you love was arbitrary at best, but I didn’t connect the dots because I didn’t realize poly was something I could be.
Well labels really are just simplified approximations. So are scientific theories, though. Our brains are rarely cut out for understanding anything in the universe with all its complexities, so we have to try to find a balance between correctness and simplicity to find an understanding that’s accurate enough while still being simple enough to actually use.
When those simplified models of reality are applied to people, it gets even more complicated since then you have to consider how it affects people. There are few easy rules like “labels are good” or “labels are bad.”
But what we can do is share experiences and try to empathize with others and build our understanding. So I’ve appreciated your comments as well.
Things are looking awesome for Danny and Amber. Unfortunately, we are nowhere near the end of this comic, so writing convention says that the other shoe is just about to drop.
My guess? In case you didn’t see it yesterday: PLOT TWIST! Not only is Danny bi now, he’s also the whiteboard ding-dong bandit! He was brainwashed by Blaine into defacing the whiteboards, and during sexytimes, Amazi-girl discovers his sharpie! Heartbroken, Amazi-girl is forced to break up with Danny and turn him in. Amazi-girl is further heartbroken when Danny replaces her affection with Ethan’s, and it appears that yet another lover of hers is actually gay. Danny being bi was all a part of Blaine’s cunning plan. BLAINE HAS THE LAST LAUGH!!
Discovering the marker mid-coitus would be a Willis-worthy plot twist. The rest doesn’t quite fit. Pretty sure Danny being bi could not have been “part of Blaine’s cunning plan”, nor would it have made any difference in the universe if it was.

If he had been gay, then he didn’t ‘become’ gay. (When did you become straight?) Word of Willis has Danny as bi, but just recognizing it in himself. That’s very different from ‘becoming’ bi.
I think I’m just going to have to ship some kind of open relationship/polyamory because A. that would be cool representation and B. that would allow both of these ships and C. having to decide whether I’m happy with either monogamous result is going to drive me crazy!

Prediction: It’s fair to say we’ve had no indication Amber has had any healthy sex (we have no idea how far things progressed between her and Ethan on prom night, and while I personally think that Blaine’s abuse of his daughter was entirely of a non-sexual nature especially given Willis’ rejection of “Rape as Backstory” I’m sure there are people with headcanon that includes that element). If things do get hot and heavy, I’m not exactly sure sex will meet her idealized expectations since we know she’s not in the most balanced of mental states. Add to it the chance that Danny (while at least having experience) could Dan this all up, and I can see sexual intimacy making her issues worse, not better, which in turn could make Danny more confused about his sexuality and undermine Amber’s new-found self-confidence without resorting to the usual farcical “oops he moaned Ethan’s name” your average webcomic would do.
Personally, I often find myself more attracted to people after finding out they’re androsexual (attracted to men or males). Oh, hey! You might actually reciprocate? That’s hot!
I don’t think Danny, professional romantic, would want his first time with Amber to be some desperate attempt to reaffirm his straightness when he thinks he might be gay. I would say ‘non-existent’. Being heterosexual doesn’t just mean being sexually attracted to the opposite sex; it means being sexually attracted exclusively (or almost exclusively) to the opposite sex. Danny’s attraction to Ethan could be a fluke, leaving Danny confused yet still basically heterosexual, but Word of God says otherwise.

When did that even actually happen? He was not dating Amber at that point in time. In fact, he proved himself to be a very dedicated person in that he did not cheat on Amazi-Girl with Amber, and was trying to not cause such a problem. If anything, she should probably actually feel relieved. He also WAS there for her at her lowest, when she succumbed to her rage and beat the fuck out of Blaine, and helped her make her getaway.
While I don’t think he handled that situation quite right he also had no idea she was so vulnerable or what the hell was going on with her at all since she wouldn’t tell him.

Well, in Amber/AG’s defense she might have been thinking that both she and Danny needed the downtime to sort out their feelings, thus the word choice of ‘we’.
It was then she realized the one who needed more time alone to sort things out was her, not Danny (she also realized she was speaking for him) and changed it to ‘I’ to show her admitting she was the one who needed the time.
I’ll admit the odds are more in favor of that slip-up indicating the still-fractured state of her personas, but at least there is an option that’s not as dreadful

That said, while I like Danny, I have trouble sympathizing with where he is emotionally, that need to “reassert his heterosexuality”, like it was some all-important status thing he needed to prove to someone.
Partly because, for most of my life, I never thought about if I was hetero, pan, homo, male, female, whatever. I was just me. Didn’t think of it in those terms. The first ever person I fell in love with was male, and the second female, about 2-3 years apart. I was surprised to fall in love with them, because I’d been close friends with them for over a year each before I felt any romantic interest. But I didn’t even consider their gender into it.
Labels was something other people did, things that people said about me after I did things. I just didn’t think about it, myself.
And so, the thing Danny is going through right now, and it is certainly something I’ve seen many others go through before him, is always odd to me. I just cannot grasp why you would not be with the people you want to be with, because it wouldn’t fit your current label. Just do what you want to do, be with the people you want to be with, and then when old labels don’t fit anymore, find a new one, if it is that important to you.
Importance of happiness > importance of labels. Every. Time.
A label isn’t just a word you use to describe yourself, though. It’s a lot more complicated than that and it can have very deep meaning. It represents expectations, both internal and external, and those can be very powerful and very important to you, even if they’re stupid expectations based in crap.
They can even define your whole view of reality. I grew up in Utah and while I was aware of the word “gay,” it wasn’t… It wasn’t a thing. I felt like what that word described didn’t even exist on the same reality as me. It existed off somewhere else on another plane of existence entirely. I don’t think it really hit me until really late into high school what was going on in my head or in my pants and what that meant. Sure, this “sexual attraction thing” happened with males and not so much with females. But I didn’t have the words to describe or understand these feelings because “gay” wasn’t something compatible with “me.” For a long time, it felt as insane as considering myself a Jedi. Eventually, I figured it out, but it took a long time, and I probably would have been totally fucked without the internet.
Oh, and my parents aren’t particularly religious and while I was exposed to Christianity, I wasn’t really indoctrinated. This was all just because of the culture around me.
I certainly agree that people’s happiness is more important than labels. But these things have power over some of us whether we want them to or not, so we need to deal with them. Be glad that you don’t have to worry about them as much.

I guess part of my dissonance is that I very seldom consider the labels to be *me*… just a simplified approximation of one aspect of me. Also, being a person who does not generally find people sexually attractive, I have trouble seeing the difference between the sexualities hetero/homo/bi/pan, because it looks like the same basic desire, same basic way that desire is expressed, slightly different object of affection.
But knowing what you are, while lacking the words to describing it, while there is a word that fits, but you cannot imagine being “you”… that, I can sympathize with. Because that’s basically me and polyamory. I knew that I didn’t feel jealousy in any significant capacity, I knew that I thought the reasoning behind what is a close friend and what is a person you love was arbitrary at best, but I didn’t connect the dots because I didn’t realize poly was something I could be.
Well labels really are just simplified approximations. So are scientific theories, though. Our brains are rarely cut out for understanding anything in the universe with all its complexities, so we have to try to find a balance between correctness and simplicity to find an understanding that’s accurate enough while still being simple enough to actually use.
When those simplified models of reality are applied to people, it gets even more complicated since then you have to consider how it affects people. There are few easy rules like “labels are good” or “labels are bad.”
But what we can do is share experiences and try to empathize with others and build our understanding. So I’ve appreciated your comments as well.

Prediction: It’s fair to say we’ve had no indication Amber has had any healthy sex (we have no idea how far things progressed between her and Ethan on prom night, and while I personally think that Blaine’s abuse of his daughter was entirely of a non-sexual nature especially given Willis’ rejection of “Rape as Backstory” I’m sure there are people with headcanon that includes that element). If things do get hot and heavy, I’m not exactly sure sex will meet her idealized expectations since we know she’s not in the most balanced of mental states. Add to it the chance that Danny (while at least having experience) could Dan this all up, and I can see sexual intimacy making her issues worse, not better, which in turn could make Danny more confused about his sexuality and undermine Amber’s new-found self-confidence without resorting to the usual farcical “oops he moaned Ethan’s name” your average webcomic would do.
