I remember my dorm putting up signs for people to stop doing that because it was clogging the plumbing.

I think it’s so cute the way Danny is perfectly fine in a room full of half-or-more-naked dudes and then Ethan shows up and BOOM composure completely gone.

It surely says something about Willis’s designs that he’s actually fairly recognizable from just that sliver. I don’t actually know what, but it must say something.
I think I wasn’t looking for a connection between Boris Johnson and Margaret Thatcher because neither served in British politics while the other was active. I was just trying to continue with the Austin Powers references because I had to mention Random Task somehow.

I’m not sure he has. I think he may still be stuck in the gay/straight dichotomy, thinking that if he just has enough sex with Amazi-Girl, he won’t be attracted to Ethan, and not realizing that he can be attracted to both guys and girls.

Ethan and Amber spend the next few days taking shifts taking care of Danny, creating numerous moments of confusion where he doesn’t realize they’ve swapped out. Ethan leaves, Amber enters and greets him with a kiss, Danny’s like “Whoa, Ethan’s kissing me” until Amber speaks and he realizes what’s happened. That sort of thing.
I do not understand why I am attracted to fictional boys, but flesh and blood women. This is a mystery of the ages.
Anyhow, I am conflicted about the Danny/Ethan.
On the one hand, I want them to do the do, or at least make out. Or have a kiss. Something, anything, PLEASE! But on the other hand, I really like Amber being happy. I don’t particularly like Amber and Danny together, never really did. They just…to me I don’t see this turning into a long term thing. It has the distinctive air of a fling, and it makes me a bit upset that Amber refuses to be Danny’s girlfriend–only Amazigirl is allowed to date him. I would love them to break up.
But I don’t want them to break up because Danny lurves Ethan. I feel like that would really rip Amber apart. Not only is a second boy leaving her for dudes, he’s leaving her for her best friend. I would like to see Danny and Ethan hook up post break up. I would really like Amber and Mike to get together.
Don’t worry, Amber’s psyche is likely to collapse into a heap as she continues to deal with her rage using her second identity she’s becoming more and more engrossed into! Ethan/Danny sexytimes are bound to happen.

Plot prediction! Becky gets wind of Danny’s attraction, and kicks off the Whiteboard Dingdong Bandit Round 2 by drawing Ethan/Amazi-Girl fanfic on everyone’s whiteboards.
I really feel Danny here. He thought he had everything he wanted back, and suddenly something new and undeniable in his life shows up, and he doesn’t know how to deal with it. Plus, the kid seems to have never heard of bisexuality, so he probably thinks he’s sabotaging things with Amber.
Granted, what I really want is for Ethan to feel Danny.
There are so many things I approve of in this strip, starting from left to right with Tony’s tiny red shorts and ending with Danny’s hilariously unsubtle boner-hiding technique.
As a gay dude who lived in a dorm with showers like this for several years, I must say that you’ve captured the experience pretty perfectly.

It’s a little surprising in an abstract sense, since it’s a major plot point and apparently integral to Danny’s character development and presumably you are reading the comic because you’re interested and not because anyone is forcing you to. It’s not even about approval. It’s about controlling his identity. He doesn’t think people won’t approve of him…he thinks they’ll approve of The Gay Guy, when he wants to be The Nerd. (Also, looking through the archives to find that strip, the whole Danny-has-a-crush-on-Ethan thing is foreshadowed like a mofo.)
I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s about a lot of stuff. He overall doesn’t like the ways his life changed when he was openly gay. Those were very rough times for him.
Dumbiverse David Willis wrote the comic “The Head Alien” that the “Dexter and Monkey Master” cartoon is based on. I am guessing he doesn’t hang around college campuses much. Though maybe he will be a guest in one of Mary’s art classes at some point or something.
It would be awesome if they have a convention on campus and Joyce, Dorothy and Walky freak out about meeting him. Lots of lampshading about “all the crap you put your characters through”, and someone gruffing “why aren’t there any straight characters” with Danny and Ethan smiling nervously in the background.
I love this strip. I can relate to it to an absurd degree. For me, there was TOTALLY an awkwardness in such settings (e.g. gym locker rooms) once I realized I was bi. That whole “don’t look, don’t look, people might think it’s weird” kinda feeling. Aaaand definitely more than awkwardness seeing your crush in a towel. Yep.
Danny was never written as having an attraction to men in the Walkyverse, but then again he never said he was straight.
Considering all that was happening in Roomies at the time and his subsequent fall from main character status and relationship with Billie, one could easily say that Danny never really had time to figure out his attraction to men.
It’s the same with Becky, really. Her Walkyverse counterpart never expressed any particular sexuality.

I have one last thing to say on this strip(hopefully): Danny is terrible at hiding his boner. That is THE MOST OBVIOUS WAY EVER. Granted, I do not have a penis, so I can only guess at excellent ways to hide a boner. I would’ve suggested placing the towel in front, so that it looks more natural. Shoving a shower caddy on your dick is not natural.
I prefer to go for the hidden in plain sight method. No attempt is made to hide it. Rather, I rely on the inherent awkwardness of someone else pointing it out.

I remember my dorm putting up signs for people to stop doing that because it was clogging the plumbing.
The knowledge that enough dudes were going at it in the showers to clog the fucking plumbing was enough of a turn on that I think the signs kind of backfired on them.

It surely says something about Willis’s designs that he’s actually fairly recognizable from just that sliver. I don’t actually know what, but it must say something.

Anyhow, I am conflicted about the Danny/Ethan.
On the one hand, I want them to do the do, or at least make out. Or have a kiss. Something, anything, PLEASE! But on the other hand, I really like Amber being happy. I don’t particularly like Amber and Danny together, never really did. They just…to me I don’t see this turning into a long term thing. It has the distinctive air of a fling, and it makes me a bit upset that Amber refuses to be Danny’s girlfriend–only Amazigirl is allowed to date him. I would love them to break up.
But I don’t want them to break up because Danny lurves Ethan. I feel like that would really rip Amber apart. Not only is a second boy leaving her for dudes, he’s leaving her for her best friend. Dumbiverse David Willis wrote the comic “The Head Alien” that the “Dexter and Monkey Master” cartoon is based on. I am guessing he doesn’t hang around college campuses much. Though maybe he will be a guest in one of Mary’s art classes at some point or something.
It would be awesome if they have a convention on campus and Joyce, Dorothy and Walky freak out about meeting him. Lots of lampshading about “all the crap you put your characters through”, and someone gruffing “why aren’t there any straight characters” with Danny and Ethan smiling nervously in the background.

I love this strip. I can relate to it to an absurd degree. For me, there was TOTALLY an awkwardness in such settings (e.g. gym locker rooms) once I realized I was bi. That whole “don’t look, don’t look, people might think it’s weird” kinda feeling. Aaaand definitely more than awkwardness seeing your crush in a towel. Yep.

Danny was never written as having an attraction to men in the Walkyverse, but then again he never said he was straight.
Considering all that was happening in Roomies at the time and his subsequent fall from main character status and relationship with Billie, one could easily say that Danny never really had time to figure out his attraction to men.
It’s the same with Becky, really. Her Walkyverse counterpart never expressed any particular sexuality.
Danny was barely admitting to wanting hetero sex before Roomies ended and he got booted off-screen for years at a time.
