Fair enough. I just can’t connect the idea of Joe being this ultra-careful in planning out dates (to the point of deconstructing the psychology of everybody involved for maximum pleasure), and not bothering to wear a condom.
I would assume these two weren’t stupid enough to not use a condom, but like you said- what Joe has in mind is usually maximum pleasure, and that doesn’t include condoms.

If she is on the pill, she knows she is meeting her requirement, with or without the use of the condom. Yes, condoms will protect from STDs, but that’s not what she is advocating in the last panel.
