A lot of dorm rooms don’t have closets. They have wardrobes with a large upper compartment to store hanging clothes and a set of drawers underneath. As this is an older state college, I assume that is what is furnished.
Yeah… OSU was the same way. In fact, I remember a contest involving cramming the most number of students into such a room, with students both inside the wardrobe, and lying sprawled on top between the wardrobe and ceiling.
On another note… why am I suddenly feeling a certain sense of familiarity and appreciation for Ruth? Is that wrong? Do I need some Seroquel?
looks like billie will be coming out of the closet for ruth. is it ironic that just before reading this i was reading Gotham Central before DC’s big reset or w/e? i’ll just have to find out tomorow
Ringtone! Why did I buy that stupid Ringtone. I just can’t imagine now what IIIII was thinking at all (Really what was I thinking); my friends all stare at meee whenever IIII get a caaaalll…
…What? It’s appropriate considering Weird Al’s new album came out yesterday.
Also, 36 comments and no FAAAAAAAAAAAAACE joke?
I’ve literally never read one of these characters before DoA, so I don’t know what i’m supposed to expect of them. That being said I fucking love this dynamic between billie and ruth
That’s not irony. Irony is when you expect something to happen or intend for something to happen, and the actual result is the opposite. For example, it would be ironic if Billie hid in the closet so Ruth wouldn’t find her, only to discover that Ruth is actually afraid of monsters in her closet and checks there compulsively.
OH!!! That’s her CLEAVAGE in the last panel!! I was staring at it thinking “what the hell IS this?” cause it looks like the cleft chin of an old man or something….she doesn’t have a cleft chin.
Now I see…it’s her boobies.
But look at the last panel again and see it like a chin like I did…can you see it???
My ex-girlfriend had a cleft chin. I tried to be nice and tell her it wasn’t the most masculine thing I’d ever seen, but I was lying. I don’t miss her butt chin…not one bit.
Can I make a request? can the comments link redirect to the top of the comments instead of the bottom? I think the use of the link is to “read” the comments no?
My current ringtone is whatever MP3 I happened to have set it to, but my text messaging alert seems incredibly appropriate here, because it’s the [!] noise from Metal Gear Solid…
Sigh.
The disadvantages of being old and out of touch with pop culture. No idea what that song is about, but curious enough to go find it at YouTube.
I hate this because, for those who know it, a song can convey volumes of meaning beyond expression in words.
(6 minutes or so)
OK, I’ve listened to both the Metallica and Richard Cheese (WTF is this, a Dean Martin parody?) versions. I still don’t “get it”. Is this just supposed to convey that she’s cooler-than-she-seems because she listens to Metallica?
Mind you, I’m not criticizing the comic. Plainly the problem is my own cultural ignorance. I’m just asking for help in understanding.
I’d like to think that the reason for using this particular song is simply because listening to Metallica makes anybody at least 20% cooler, but the lyrics fitting the situation is probably the real reason.
From the shape of Ruth’s phone, it looks like one of those old clamshell phones, I haven’t seen anyone with one of those types for at least 2 years now.
I know a lot of people who use them because they associated answering the phone with opening it and various other reasons that fall under the category “old habits die hard.”
For someone her age, I assume it’s because she is a college student too broke to afford anything better.
It’s not a clamshell. Are you misreading the shadow under the phone? We see the phone in an earlier strip, when Ruth shows Billie an image of her uniform.
I secretly hope this becomes a small running gag throughout the strip- I want to know what everyone’s ring tones are. Or at least Mike… and Joe… and Walkie… and everyone else too! -_-
Sandman? Really?
Sandman.
I’m a bad fan because it took me until 10 seconds after reading the last panel to figure out the song.
i realized it then was reading the song in james hetfield voice
Hahah Same here!! That voice is engraved in my head thanks to my uncle rocking me to sleep to that song.
\m/^_^\m/
I didn’t until I read the comment.
I like to think that it’s the Richard Cheese version of “Enter Sandman”, as that version is infinitely better than the original.
I want to have 1 000 000 of your babies.
Hey his version could be her ringtone, right? …..right??
You are the reason I now have 60 Richard Cheese songs on my iPod.
THANK YOU.
It seems like life imitating art. Or art imitating art. Sorry, I had a train of thought but I ran out of coal…
Oh boy, she forgot to put the uniform down. That won’t end well.
Forgot? Now that she finally has it back, she would never let it go.

I doubt Ruth has even noticed it missing. It’s not like it’s HER precious baby…
No, but it IS her new toy, and her main tool of screwing with yet another helpless victim.
Surprisingly, I did NOT see this coming.
that song fits perfectly.
I can’t figure out where she is hiding, is that a closet or some cabnits?
From the look of it, I’d say it’s a cabinet of some sort.
I figured it was a closet to sync up with the song.
I agree. It’s more than likely that it is, in fact, a closet.
Does that mean Billie will be coming out of the closet soon?
Well, this isn’t Shortpacked, but it is still a strip written by the same man. I guess what I’m getting at is that it’s anybody’s guess.
At least it wasn’t a transparent closet.
Do I need some Seroquel?
the dorms in IU have no cabinets. it’s a closet
Is that the Enter The Sandman ringtone I hear?
I can verify that it is what you read. What you hear I cannot say.
Reading and hearing are sometimes end up becoming the same thing.
Right, for some this happens when they take too many recreational drugs, and for others it happens when they take too few non-recreational drugs.
In my case, I was refering to the phenomena where when you read things like lyrics from songs you heard before, the song replays in your head.
OR you’re one of the few people that have a neurologic condition called “Synesthesia”. Like Duke Ellington, or Thom Yorke…
In your Heaaaaaaaaad!!!! *headbangs*
Billie’s plan are just not going right it seems.
it all seems to be blowing up…
IN HER FAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCEEEEE!
I’ll shut up now.
THE PLOT THICKENS!
Will it be blackmail material, confrontation, or unexpected sympathy? Place your bets, folks!
My money’s on sympathy.
From Billie? That’s hard to imagine at this point. She isn’t the most empathetic of people and Ruth has crossed her repeatedly.
im thinkin the good old fashioned – fake sympathy so what starts out as ok blackmail material turns into incredible blackmail material- routine
Beatdown.
Wait, so what happens if Metallica suddenly shows up a lot as a tag? Do they go into the banner?
Yes but for copyright reasons the role of Metallica is played by the ’86 Saint-Louis Blues defense line-up.
And Ronald Reagan.
I’m strangely okay with that.
So many horror movies have this exact scene!
“The call came from inside the house!”
looks like billie will be coming out of the closet for ruth. is it ironic that just before reading this i was reading Gotham Central before DC’s big reset or w/e? i’ll just have to find out tomorow
Same bat time, same bat channel?
I feel like “Sandman” should have been tagged instead of Metallica. He’s the one that entered after all.
What a cool ringtone.
BEST RINGTONE EVAR
Ruth is still a horrible person, but she has the coolest ringtone in webcomics.
OK, anyone else wanna share their tones? I’m using the theme to “The Boondocks”. Even though I don’t watch the show.
Mine’s the Italian Batman: The Animated Series theme.
Dude, that is SO AWESOME!
Do you mean this theme Willis?
I have the theme to psych.
The Jurassic Park theme…
The theme to Animaniacs, unsurprisingly =)
You win hands down.
Well no one left me an opening yet!
I think I could have squeezed in a ‘with your/his/her penis’ somewhere but no FAAAAAACE!
I’ve literally never read one of these characters before DoA, so I don’t know what i’m supposed to expect of them. That being said I fucking love this dynamic between billie and ruth
You don’t need to read anything else to read this comic. (In fact, it’s contraindicated.) So just sit back and enjoy the ride.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call irony.
I don’t see what is ironic here.
Never mind that noise you heard, it’s just the beast under your bed, IN YOUR CLOSET, in your head.
That’s not irony. Irony is when you expect something to happen or intend for something to happen, and the actual result is the opposite. For example, it would be ironic if Billie hid in the closet so Ruth wouldn’t find her, only to discover that Ruth is actually afraid of monsters in her closet and checks there compulsively.
http://hotword.dictionary.com/ironic/
It’s sad that I knew that ringtone as soon as I saw the lyrics, It’s probably even more sad that I headbanged to it for a couple of seconds.
OH!!! That’s her CLEAVAGE in the last panel!! I was staring at it thinking “what the hell IS this?” cause it looks like the cleft chin of an old man or something….she doesn’t have a cleft chin.
Now I see…it’s her boobies.

My ex-girlfriend had a cleft chin. I tried to be nice and tell her it wasn’t the most masculine thing I’d ever seen, but I was lying. I don’t miss her butt chin…not one bit.
Same here! I saw that, as well as her mouth and chin together as her mouth. It’s pretty horrifying.
Dear god, I went and looked at it again, and that is horrifying. It does look like a butt-chin.
Why is a grinning John Waters hiding in Ruth’s closet? And where did Billie go- did John eat her?
My ringtone is the sound of the TARDIS dematerialisating.
Mine’s “Do the Mario”, the end theme from the Super Mario Brothers Super show, but I like yours better. *vworpvworp*
I can see the advantage of a ringtone like that, it would encourage you to answer as quick as possible.
coolest ringtone ever.
Everything’s gonna be babies.
Thalidomide babies!
That’s even worse than Babies McIntyre!
A lot worse!
I would have thought that Master of Puppets would be more appropriate for Ruth.
Nah, seems more like a Battery kinda girl with how giddy she is at the idea of pounding face.
Can I make a request? can the comments link redirect to the top of the comments instead of the bottom? I think the use of the link is to “read” the comments no?
I don’t know how to do that.
No I think it is to post a comment. The comments link on the post is to read the comments. Don’t really need two links doing the same thing.
Unless Ruth is using that as a ringtone ironically, she has gained a lot in my eyes.
Oh no! Now Billie is
well that didn’t work…
Is what? That’s it? Now Billie is…going to give me a million dollars? Or now Billie is going to give me my own spaceship? I mean what the f–
…wait. Wrong fandom.
Was trying to post a link to the “Trapped in a Closet” video but something went wrong in my html.
My current ringtone is whatever MP3 I happened to have set it to, but my text messaging alert seems incredibly appropriate here, because it’s the [!] noise from Metal Gear Solid…
Ooo, she’s going to overhear something compromising she can use to blackmail Ruth!
nah, it’s probably just Howard.
I’m still trying to figure out why Mary was lying around only in underwear and wristbands…
][v][etal up your ass —- \m/ (>_<) \m/
Sigh.

Honestly, I can’t think of a more appropriate image for Ruth’s approach down the hallway than the lines “Exit light. Enter Night.”
It’s just the beast,
Under your bed
In your closet
In your head
I think having the above lyrics playing while Billie was hiding in the closet was the reason Willis chose ‘Enter The Sandman’ in the first place.
I’d like to think that the reason for using this particular song is simply because listening to Metallica makes anybody at least 20% cooler, but the lyrics fitting the situation is probably the real reason.
I didn’t realize what the song was until I saw the Metallica tag, then it was almost an instant recognition.
From the shape of Ruth’s phone, it looks like one of those old clamshell phones, I haven’t seen anyone with one of those types for at least 2 years now.
