There’s nothing wrong with TTG!. It’s just that teenage fans of the original show who are now in their late 20’s just never accepted that they weren’t the target audience anymore. It’s like comparing Fantasia with Bugs Bunny, they’re both good but for entirely different reasons.

Fun fact: TTG! is now in it’s 5th season which is as long as the original series ran, and it has nearly four times as many episodes (which are admittedly shorter), so they must be doing something right.

TTG has a pretty standard episode order – about 26 episodes per season, two segments per episode. But they tend to air the segments on their own and so it looks like there’s a fuckoff huge number of episodes (meanwhile, Steven Universe and OK KO Let’s Be Heroes actually have fuckoff huge episode orders, but their episodes are only about 10 minutes so it’s a fairer trade off). Spongebob Squarepants would probably achieve something similar if it aired its segments separately. Teen Titans had a pretty standard number of episodes in its day too – about 13 episodes (that’s about the same as a Codename: Kids Next Door season, which aired around the same time). The difference is that while other shows with similar episode orders tended to split shows into segments (again, like Kids Next Door), Teen Titans used the full half hour.

Also of note that the “Target” audience is not the same as the actual viewership.
Just like MLPFIM that created Bronies TT had/has a following in the 20+ crowd that were into animation/comics/DC and stories for those not undergoing electroshock therapy. So they will now be in their 30s to 40s.

I was mostly talking about episodes per season, since Kaidah brought up how TTG had more episodes, but this is true. Although it’s also been shown that CN will cancel shows that aren’t doing well in their target audience, regardless of other viewer demographics, so it’s a valid point to bring up.

It’s not clear actually. Ruth’s never really shown any signs of it being about money specifically, I think.
She needs it because Sir demands she have it. I assume he’s covering her tuition anyway and could easily cover her housing as well if he wasn’t an abusive asshole.

Nah, bologna is typically finely ground to the point of the absence of noticeable chunks of fat (theoretically anyways). That’s not Canadian bacon.

Yeah, Canadian/back bacon is basically seasoned, filleted pork chops. All the piggy goodness of American/belly/streaky bacon, but with a higher meat-to-fat ratio.

(Thank you both for spelling “bologna” properly! Oscar Mayer would be proud.)

                May 1, 2019 at 2:07 am | #

Sort of. Canadian bacon is usually from the back, while pork chops are more from the loin, particularly the area close to the spine and sometimes contains a rib or part of the vertebrae. Though Canadian bacon often includes parts of the loin taken from behind the back, it tends to be leaner and, traditionally, is always smoked, cured, and fully cooked. It also comes in the more delicious peameal form, where it’s been wet cured and rolled in yellow peameal, though that’s not usually smoked.

And before anybody says ham – nah, ham’s the ass cheek of the pig, not the back. 😛 Specifically, ham is a leg cut that has been cured. It may or may not be smoked, but it’s from the wrong part of the pig.

I thought she liked the old one but then I realized that was in shortpacked and ttg came out long enough ago they were talking about it in shortpacked which was 2013 which was 6 years ago AND with the sliding timescale that means Lucy is 18ish meaning ttg came out when she was 12ish AND the old cartoon ENDED when she was 5ish and WE ARE ALL SO OLD

Though I’m not sure of the actual timing of when they first started using “red pill” I think it was well after Lana was out publicly that it started to take off. The Red Pill on Reddit started in 2012, I think.

Made even more ironic by the “redpillers” spreading conspiracy theories about the “secret” estrogenating powers of soy.

And made ultimately ironic by the same group also being obsessed about taking way too much artificial testosterone in the form of steroids which has an actual “estrogenating” effect on the body.

I used to love her… In short packed.

I liked her positivity , but she’s almost Stepford Wive detached from any expressed negative emotion. She’s not right for Walky either. SHe’s not going to manipulate him or force into going deep ( his ex ,) but when hes upset it will have no where to land to reach. He’ll feel disconnected or like she’s too good for him ( again ) . Amber’s not right for Walky either, but that relationship had a lot more room to grow. They should go round 2. Walky will probably grow a lot more from being with Amber and vice versa.

I agree that she isn’t right for Walky, but how would that be any sort of measurement for a character or a reflection on Lucy in general?
Actually, Walky really isn’t right for her, and I hope she recognises that quickly.

I like that Lucy is always friendly and caring. Such a nice person. So far I’ve had an almost universally positive impression of her. If I was in the comic, I’d want to befriend her based on what we know so far.

Carla does that a lot, but given the transparency of the lies I think its less because she thinks anyone will believe her, and more to just get her “asshole-cred” (or whatever) on paper. It’s all performative.

The “if you give an RA a cookie” arc is a good example.

    Last paragraph… Agree until recently.

She has terrible boundaries. She’s not as good as she seems. Willis has weakened her character to be similar to original Mary in roomies. Her positivity is based on no engagement with others feelings. I actually can’t see how Walky would be bad for her.

But when things are difficult or tense she holds people at arms length. It seems to be her only defense mechanism.

Walky thing is relevant because it’s about an inability to engage deeper emotion s in others if they aren’t sufficiently saccharine. Walky is superficial in his own way but might be growing out of it.
There is a passive aggressive contempt , snobbery on the other side of her sunniness and caring.

As much as I hate it , Malaya had a point. This is DOA. Willis isn’t going to draw Lucy without any character flaws.

    • thejeff
      thejeff
      May 1, 2019 at 10:54 pm | #

She definitely has problems with boundaries, though I’d look more to a DoA Joyce without the prejudices than any version of Mary.

I’m not sure I see much of the rest of your issues – the passive aggressive contempt or snobbery.
