It must be working. Pretty much everything I know about Transformers, I learned through osmosis from reading Willis’s comics.
I have two sources. Willis is one and Jackie Wolenhaus (Between Failures, which I highly recommend) is the other.
Wolenhaus’ social media accounts are as full of Transformers as Willis’ is.
Wacky Professor Robin is really good at making the part of me that controls laughter forget that she used to be Amoral Congresswoman Robin.
I know that’s Jason’s leg in panel 4, but I also like the idea of Robin pushing him down with three of her four limbs.

That is probably literally one of the things she teaches them about politics.
Although, technically, the board says Autocracy the Optimus Prime comic book is bad. We can’t see what it says about the political system.

However, you are right: That’s the way it is normally phrased, because that’s what Authority figures frequently do: pass laws to expand their authority into domains where they do not currently have power. Most powerful figures without legal authority (like a religious leader, celebrity, or artisan) don’t run for office to gain power, they expand their support base.
I suppose if Jason has to be back, him getting dunked on is the most palatable way to do it.

Asma seems more like he just treats her like a piece of furniture. “mail office lady”, which isn’t great but doesn’t have anything to do with her being different or her religion.
Nor do I see him as weirded out by the mildly religious. He teased first semester Joyce about it, but she was far more than mild and started out being quite obnoxious about it. He dated Lucy, knowing she was a regular church-goer. He was disturbed by the actual services he went to with her, but that’s not quite the same thing.
