It’s hitting me that even though she drew a line over the drinking and car crashing, there’s a lot of classic Billie bullshit that Alice is probably 100% on board with.
Of late, I’ve been wondering if it was less about the drinking and more about Jennifer denying that what she and Alice shared was a romantic relationship.
Like, if I was in love with my best friend and had sex with my best friend and then my best friend claimed to be straight and that passionate lovemaking was just a thing that happens sometimes between friends and not a big deal, my heart would be shattered into many jagged pieces. Reason enough for her anger even without the drinking and crashing.
Might have been a factor. We can definitely say the fracture point wasn’t the crash itself, but the aftermath where Billie tried to pretend nothing was wrong and nothing had happened, probably including Alice’s confession after the crash.
I do think that it was mostly “she is not safe”, but maybe that calculus is different if Billie’s willing to commit to actually being a couple.
The begging her to wake up post crash implies some probable head trauma. Between that and the drinking she like does not remember Alice confessing to her.
And *that’s* what Ruth said that got Alice back on board. That she and Billie were officially a real, lesbian couple, and that Billie wasn’t in denial anymore.
I think it was basically “We nearly died because you FINALLY admitted you wanted us to be together, and NOW you’re saying it was just a phase?!”
She could go in front of the whole school and tell off a jock in the middle of being crowned prom queen, but she refused to be truthful about her bisexuality.
So they would never be an *actual* couple. Billie would NEVER admit they were anything but besties. And Alice couldn’t accept being in that closet, of being a “friend” instead of a partner.
Billie refused to take that leap and Alice cut her off because what other choice did she have while retaining her self respect?
I don’t really get the first part. I don’t think Billie ever admitted she wanted them to be together. It was always “I’m sometimes into girls, like all straight girls are.”
I mean, she was the prom queen, told the prom king to fuck off, grabbed his girlfriend and ran out like The Graduate only instead of taking a bus like a safe drunk, she ran into a tree.
Oh wow, I hadn’t considered it from this angle, but now that you’ve pointed it out, it makes too much sense to dismiss… yeah, I cannot imagine how much of a gut punch that whole scenario would be for Alice.
Geez I haven’t read Pixie Trix in years. I think I kind of grew out of it. That’s Aaron? What happened to them? Were they a trans egg this whole time?! Is that what the story is actually about? I might try re-reading it if that’s what’s happening.
I read some of the comments for the strip posted and the speculation seems to lead toward fluidity or nonbinary as Aaron’s ultimate realization of his gender identity. He does share Jen’s self defined exceptions for his sexuality. That’s pretty funny actually.
Given the equation “genderfluid/nonbinary identities are trans”, Aaron / Erin does qualify thusly. Eventually to be figured out. (i’m sure it will go totally smoothly with no obstacles at all)
I think it was a combination. That Alice had followed Billie into a lot of self-destructive behavior because of her crush and the crash helped her realize not only how bad that was getting, but also look a little more clearly at Billie and see that she really wasn’t going to get what she wanted. Despite the tempting hot sex.
My question is: How clearly is she seeing her now? How much is this just seeing a few signs of change and letting hope and the crush take over again?
Honestly, given Jennifer’s history with observation, I was worried she missed the very obvious tells Joyce and Dorothy were putting out. Apparently not. I applaud the character growth.
Probably Facade. She no longer burns, or poisons herself so it was only doing half damage anyway. Fun game now though. What pokemon types would the DoA cast be? I’ll start. I think Jennifer would be a dark type maybe mixed with something like normal or fairy now that she’s evolved.
The idea of a Pokémon evolving into a normal type is very funny to me. Anyway, my contribution is that Becky is an electric/psychic type Dina is a rock/flying type
Joyce is probably a Flying type, flight is a core part of her character. Back in the walkyverse she had a jetpack and Julian Gray is a fighter pilot. Her whole arc is in a sense like a baby bird leaving the nest for the first time and learning to fly on it’s own. I feel like there is a chance she evolves into something with a more hardcore second type like fighting or steel which is a funny match because when it comes down to fight or flight situations she is very much always a fight person.
No, if she’d learned discretion, she would have established the timeline in a way that didn’t make obvious that it was relevant to something that she wasn’t telling Walky.
Nope, just half a decade. I know this because I started reading at the start of this semester and this was apparently about five years ago.
…Dear god I can’t believe I’ve been following this for so long, that’s crazy. Feels like I only started reading this a year or two ago but I found it literally the day before the timeskip.
Yep! I’ve likewise been reading since before the great Y2K wiped out all civilization as we know it.
(It’s like the one constant in my life, and kinda means a lot to me?)
Welcome to the ride
: )
Been reading Girl Genius since it started 1999. A few years have passed but only because of an actual time skip.
Been reading Dumbing of Age since it started 2010. About ~8 months have passed.
I think she was making sure that she didn’t need to tell him Dorothy had cheated on him (by ensuring they weren’t together when Dorothy did laundry with Joyce)
As others have pointed out, Joyce said to Jennifer less than an hour ago that by some definitions, she maybe had sex “a week ago, by accident, with my best friend”
Willis loves making fun of McEldowny, but there’s one thing McE. never did: he never shortened “gossip” to “goss.” *Shudder*
(Can you divine from this that McEldowny is right up my alley?)
Am I forgetting something? I thought the timeframe for all the Joyce/Dorothy stuff has only been like 3 days or so in-world. Well, I mean since Dorothy’s whole awakening. Has it been a whole week? God the nature of time in this comic can really be confusing sometimes.
Dorothy taught Joyce to do laundry ten days ago. (This is Saturday; the laundry incident was last Wednesday.) But Joyce told Billie she might have had sex with her best friend a week ago, so that’s the timeline Billie’s working with.
This implies that if Joyce and Dorothy did cheat on Walky/Joe, it would not be okay’d by the “Bang one friend free” loophole (since she’d tell Walky.) This backs up what I’ve been feeling every time it comes up and people blame Billie lol. You can bang one friend free and still be straight, but a cheater’s a cheater lol.
Granted, if Billie had all the context for the situation instead of the vague knowledge that Dorothy and Joyce have apparently had sex per Joyce’s telling, I have no clue what she would think or say about it.
Except that there is some implication that Jennifer and Alice were cheating on Alice’s abusive boyfriend. That may be why people assumed that cheating was on Jennifer’s ‘okay’ list.
Further, we don’t know exactly what Jennifer planned to tell Walky here. It might have been a simple “go talk to you girlfriend.”
Which, I mean, should also happen anyway. Right after Joyce and Dorothy have their conversation. Also Joe and Joyce. Boundaries and rules need to be established and discussed before they can be enforced.
It definitely seems like Alice cheated on her piece of shit ex with Billie (to be clear, good for her), so I’d be surprised if Jennifer was completely against it under all circumstances
Yeah I think Jennifer would be FOR cheating on piece of shit ex who sucks, plus they’re “just friends” so it’s fine. Whereas I do think she cares enough about Walky (she sees him like a brother albeit one she wants to strangle sometimes) that I think she’d inform him if he were being cheated on even if it was the bang a friend loophole.
The piece of shit ex is referring to Alice’s boyfriend who I can’t be assed to remember. Walky NOT being a piece of shit is why I think Jennifer would consider telling him about Dorothy and Joyce if she considered it cheating.
The timeline with Alice has been kinda vague, they could have hooked up between leaving prom (and the presumed end of Alice’s relationship) and the car crash.
Extra oof though if Billie was drunk when they had sex, and used that as another excuse to brush it off as a dalliance.
They could have gone to some secluded spot to park, keep drinking and have sex and then crashed afterwards really on the way home.
I doubt it though.
I assume they did it well before prom, but not as a romantic relationship thing, just friends fooling around – at least on Jennifer’s part.
Also Billie was probably drunk when they had sex. Billie was probably drunk for most of the sex she had in high school. I doubt she’d use that as an excuse to brush it off though. That’s just something best friends do. No need for an excuse.
I hadn’t thought about it this way before, even though Joyce’s bubbling realizations should have made it obvious, but if Joyce and Dorothy had hanky panky to exceptional music in the bunk that would have been the Second coming, first being laundry, thus violating the one bang per friend rule. I won’t scrape the comments to figure out how many people have pointed this out before me.
I don’t think it does, even speaking objectively, but because Joyce said she thinks it does, some people think it does. I think if Jennifer knew the details she’d also disagree on it being a bang.
Ah yeah, that makes sense. I lose track of how much time has gone by in DoA sometimes, because a few months in-universe has been over a decade of real time.
I’m not pagan, but I am into astronomy so I still think its worth celebrating. I think it is an appropriate remind ones self of the majesty of the universe and the beauty of life. And also that we are slowly boiling ourselves alive with fossil fuels. The point is: Happy Summer Solstice to you, too. MAXIMUM DAY LIGHT!
Back in my home country, it is Native New Year, where the (still living) native people of the country are celebrating the start of the new year of their calendar.
The time of Very Controlled Open Access to Stonehenge, and annoying people saying “You know most of this stuff was made up in the 18th century, right?” (All traditions are made up, some were made up more recently than others, doesn’t matter.)
The 18th century, like come the fuck on. Oh yeah, it was only three hundred fucking years ago, ya stooges. Your grandma’s grandma’s grandma doesn’t fucking remember a time before it started, you can maybe accept it’s a thing now.
It occurs to me that there are at least two awkward topics that could come up:
1) Walky wonders how Jennifer actually wants to be addressed as (and has specifically said that she never liked “Billie”)
2) Alice wonders how Walky and Jennifer became friends now in college (which is awkward because the explanation is that actually they were roughly siblings presumably up until Jennifer decided she was too cool for Walky)(or at least, that’s the only explanation I can think of for why Alice is only distantly familiar with Walky despite being besties with Jennifer)
Is there a specific timeframe mentioned for when Jennifer thought she was too cool for Walky? I’m thinking “When she joined the cheerleading squad”, but maybe it was actually before?
By high school, Sal was out of the picture, in Tennessee. And I’m pretty sure that Walky was not someone that Billie associated with if she could help it.
In the first scene where Alice shows up: https://www.dumbingofage.com/wally/
In addition to misremembering him as being called Wally, she asks, vaguely, “Didn’t you go to my high school?” She has no association of him as being with Jennifer before.
And Walky is clearly feeling that Billie wants them to leave:
“Billie findin’ Alice means we’re unnecessary”. The next strip shows him making a really uncomfortable grimace, being immediately ready to leave: “I understand. Dork friends find another table. I know the drill”.
Walky is absolutely acting like someone who had it drilled into him to fuck way the hell off by Jennifer in high school, at least when she was with her friends.
Want you to know this specific comment makes me believe that if Alice heard about half the shit Joyce has done she’d probably fall in love with her. I desperately need to see this dynamic unfold of Alice getting to know Joyce post-fundie arc.
Lmaoooo you know what good for Billiefer. She checked the timeline, judged it ‘SAFE, WASNT WITH WALKY RIGHT THAT SECOND’, and decided to put a lid on it.
walks back in, glances around. I see like 20% of people in here seem to think cheating means “accidentally functionally doing something sexy with someone else when you were not dating someone and neither was she, and still having sexual and romantic feelings for each other sometimes”.
Well, for those that want to be moralistic: None of Billifer’s business either, gossiping about something she heard Joyce say but does not have correct anyway.
It’s not DEFINITELY your business. Most people would probably appreciate the heads up but the situation is extremely delicate and complicated, so you really shouldn’t be appending any absolutes.
Yeah, I’m not even sure why this is up for debate? Obviously you tell your friend if you think they’re being cheated on. Explain fully, rather than just “She definitely cheated” unless you know for sure, but people deserve to know something shady is going on.
I think the point is that she didn’t cheated on him, this was something that happened before they restarted their relationship so at least for Jennifer it isn’t his business. (I am actually not sure who you are responding to so i fell like i lack context for your comment)
I’m assuming it is up for debate because I put it up for debate, and people then debated it. It is certainly not obvious to me that “I tell my friend if I think they are being cheated on”, and what if my “I think” is just that, I have no evidence? Joyce, well known for coming out with bizarre statements, came out with a bizarre statement. What does that tell me about Joyce and Dorothy? In my opinion, nothing. So why would I stir up trouble?
Ha ha ha. You guys! You talk as if there is some kind of absolute moral code. Some actual right and wrong. Whereas what you are giving is a personal opinion. Nothing wrong at all with giving a personal opinion. Everybody giving slightly, or wildly, different personal opinions. But, in my personal opinion, that is all they are, personal opinions!
If this is about Dorothy/Joyce and he’d already been back together with Dorothy, then it’s something he should be told about, since it’s part of his personal life. Since he wasn’t, it’s just gossip about their personal lives he doesn’t need to know.
I see a lot of people upset at Jennifer here, but really, it was the only valid response. Telling Walky a bunch of stuff before Dorothy has a chance to explain herself or talk to him about it would in fact kind of be a dick move from her perspective (since she doesn’t know what we know).
But not telling him anything without knowing the timeline would ALSO have been a dick move, which is why she asked about said timeline.
Could she have just been silent after receiving the information? Yeah. Is that consistent with Jennifer’s character? Nah. It’s fair to find that specific part annoying but it WAS from a place of like, actual social care and aptitude.
You also have to consider that she might not want to out Dorothy. I’m not sure if she actually knows Dorothy is bi yet or not because she selectively remembers things that hold benefit to her in some form and it’s totally in character for her to tank the “bi lines” pun from last chapter in the face.
The extent to which people morally judge fictional characters when the cartoonist is clearly toying with their imaginary lives for drama is amazing, that’s true.
Good on Jennifer. Both for wanting to make sure Walky wasn’t being potentially cheated on and also keeping Dorothy’s secret once she confirmed they weren’t together at the time
The relationship paladins are heated up about a relationship that’s been on-again for three entire days.
Though this does highlight how comic book time gets a little wonky when paired with a concrete in-universe calendar. Nothing in the latest Amazing Spider-Man hinges on the one-year anniversary of an event published in 1987.
To be fair the Relationship Paladins are mostly on the side of JoexJoyce. Walky has as far as i know, been accepted by most as an acceptable loss, collateral damage nothing more. He’s the humble farmer who has to watch the ensuing blood war between Joeyce and Jorothy.
Even Joe/Joyce is only a few days older than Walky/Dorothy redux. Neither relationship had started when the laundry room incident occurred a week ago. Given what we know now about Dorothy’s feelings, I think it’s pretty clear she got back together with Walky as a response to Joyce getting together with Joe.
Ok this is actually a gross oversimplification. At heart i am a historian it would be a blunder to not properly record this event.
This is a full scale civil war with multiple sub factions. The core root of the conflict is between the forces of the Relationship Paladins of Joeyce and the forces of the Sickos who fight for no central cause.
Among the Relationship Paladins are it’s own splinter Jorothy faction who view the sickos ideology as damaging to a lasting Jorothy pairing and the infamous Cartoon Puritans who see any moral imperfection as something to be chastised and corrected. Of it’s warriors the Joeyce group is it’s strongest.
The Sickos are a scattering of smaller factions grouped together by a unified cause, to see the Cartoon Puritans defeated. Held together by the central Jorothy forces and it’s Yuri Allies. It’s backed by several other smaller factions such as the free reign Media Anarchists who wish for nothing more than people to shut up and enjoy the drama an the nebulous forces of The Crack Shippers so often forgotten who would see the current status quo destroyed for no other reason than to bring more ships into reality.
There are many factions and groups within this conflict that remain unmentioned but what remains clear is this year they have all been laid bare weapons drawn prepared for the coming conflict.
Wait. What are the Relationship Paladins actually upset about here? Is anyone in today’s comments actually “heated up”? There’s been talk about cheating, but that’s been in the context of What is Jennifer Not Saying here?, rather than moral outrage.
Even as a Relationship Paladin, I’d say I’m probably rooting for Dorothy/Joyce more than Dorothy/Walky, I just don’t think cheating on your previous partner is an auspicious start to a relationship
Also, I’m gonna possibly break with tradition and say that your partner’s sexual history *is* your business. It’s just not someone else’s business to tell you about it. That’s why ‘none of your business’ is such a grating response here.
Iy, actually isn’t tho? Unless you are referring to yhings like STD or possible childrens i guess. Otherwise it really isn’t their business who you sleep with outside of the relationship unless it is somehow actually relevant.
Can you explain why? I mean certainly I would -want- to know (and even if I didn’t specifically want to know, I would want them to feel comfortable telling me), but that’s not the same thing as it being my business.
Well, I think it’s pretty much always relevant information. Could someone be jealous of you now? Could your partner still have a thing for them? It will color their relationship probably forever, and by extension yours. It’s not like you have to provide a list, and it depends how serious the relationship is, but I think in most circumstances it would be unreasonable to say “none of your business” in response to that sort of question.
Yeah, no, what you are describing is something you would like to know, not something that is your business. Your partner has a right to their privacy on matters that do not relate to you.
You could just as easily say that your partner’s text messages are your business, because WHAT IF they COULD be sexting someone other than you? But we all recognize that demanding to see your partner’s texts (at least without other provocation) is a huge red flag of jealous and possessive behavior that they are under no obligation to tolerate, right?
The idea that a person’s life can be neatly compartmentalized so that no two relationships relate to each other only makes sense for three-letter agents. In many cases they cannot be disentangled. For instance, Dorothy mutually masturbating with Joyce is very much affecting her present relationship with Walky. It might be the whole reason they got back together.
Demanding to see text messages is nothing like asking for sexual history. It would be considered an even bigger red flag to refuse to answer other questions about your past. Sexual history is more private than where you went to school, but that doesn’t make it nobody’s business ever.
Well, I’m certainly guilty of masturbating in the same room as someone else. I didn’t tell them I was so they may not have known. They didn’t tell me, so I may not have known. I really can’t see who that was cheating, or of what. My own opinion would not call it ‘having sex’ either, let alone with anyone. I also say all sorts of things I find funny. Presumably Joyce thought it was funny and I’m pretty sure Willis did. So judge me!
Fine, just perplexed that people want to call masturbating in the same room cheating, when it isn’t even having sex with each other and neither was in a relationship with someone else anyway.
Isn’t this all a Willis joke for our entertainment?
Well, I think that’s what’s being established in universe here, that it wasn’t cheating because they weren’t in other relationships at the time (at least on Dorothy and Walky’s end– for what’s being talked about in this strip). And that’s been well established in the comments as well, with some people just misremembering the timeline of things.
Now, if they had been in other relationships at the time, could the laundry room thing have been cheating? Absolutely. “Isn’t even having sex with each other” isn’t a disqualifier for something being cheating. There are also plenty of relationships with boundaries where it wouldn’t be cheating– but those types of boundaries may be less familiar to many people, including Jennifer, who was checking if cheating was a possibility from what she heard and then determined it was not.
I am so excited for Alice, honestly.
It’s hitting me that even though she drew a line over the drinking and car crashing, there’s a lot of classic Billie bullshit that Alice is probably 100% on board with.

Or together proper, I suppose.
This about dorothy/joyce, huh
nah, Lucy+guy
No, Walky was at the party that that happened at, so he knows. This is about the titty pic Dorothy was trying to send.
“Look, she’s sending titties pixies.”
“Oh, cool, yeah, they’re great, aren’t they?”
Jennifer wasn’t at the party though. Walky knew, but Jennifer doesn’t know that Walky knows.
Did she even know about the Walky/Lucy breakup before Lucy came home with Jacob?
It’s probably Dorothy/Joyce, since Joyce just told Jennifer about that, but I love that there are multiple things to speculate about.
It’s Wally is he really going to care? He’s so laid back he’s horizontal.
Supine even.
He’s laid back, but he still cares about stuff. Not sure how he’ll react, honestly.
“Wait, she’s banging Jacob? Okay, yeah, she’s officially out of my league now.”
Walky literally watched Lucy and Jacob leave the dorm room party together.
And if he didn’t figure it out then, he probably figured it out the next morning, when Joyce said “Literally we’ve all paired up. Me and Joe. Dorothy and Walky. Jacob and Lucy.”
https://www.dumbingofage.com/2024/comic/book-15/01-love-dares-you-to-change/audit/
He’s been horizontal, alright.
He *might* be curious as to how his love life isn’t his business.
Tbf, more a matter of how his pre-lovelife isn’t his business.
Yeah but he doesn’t know that.
he’s gonna care because he cares about dorothy and something happened that’s making her feel bad and act a little weird at times
whether it’s a deal breaker is another conversation but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not
Jennifer learned discretion? Nice.
Honestly, given Jennifer’s history with observation, I was worried she missed the very obvious tells Joyce and Dorothy were putting out. Apparently not. I applaud the character growth.
she had to unlearn another move to have room for Discretion, wonder what it was…
Probably Facade. She no longer burns, or poisons herself so it was only doing half damage anyway. Fun game now though. What pokemon types would the DoA cast be? I’ll start. I think Jennifer would be a dark type maybe mixed with something like normal or fairy now that she’s evolved.
Danny is Normal type.
Do we think Dina is Dragon, as the closest analogue to dinosaurs? Or is she Rock, as all the fossil pokemon are?
Rock/Dragon seems perfect for Dina.
The idea of a Pokémon evolving into a normal type is very funny to me. Anyway, my contribution is that Becky is an electric/psychic type Dina is a rock/flying type
It’d be neat to have like a reverse Eevee, where you’ve got a bunch of little dudes of several types who all turn into a specific Normal-type.
And that normal-type is a crab.
No, she just wants him to want it more before she continues.
No, if she’d learned discretion, she would have established the timeline in a way that didn’t make obvious that it was relevant to something that she wasn’t telling Walky.
Jennifer uses discretion. It’s not very effective…
I thought it was because of the titty pic she took with Dorothy’s phone.
i dunno man the days feel like months sometimes, y’know?
Feels like this semester has been a decade long
Nope, just half a decade. I know this because I started reading at the start of this semester and this was apparently about five years ago.
…Dear god I can’t believe I’ve been following this for so long, that’s crazy. Feels like I only started reading this a year or two ago but I found it literally the day before the timeskip.
There are those of us who began following (versions of) these characters in 1999, and been here ever since!
Yep! I’ve likewise been reading since before the great Y2K wiped out all civilization as we know it.
(It’s like the one constant in my life, and kinda means a lot to me?)
Welcome to the ride
: )
No, wait, I think I may have started in 2003, the last year of It’s Walky!. So we’d rediscovered bronze, at least.
I definitely didn’t join in until SP! when I was in high school so maybe…2005? 2006?
Been reading Girl Genius since it started 1999. A few years have passed but only because of an actual time skip.
Been reading Dumbing of Age since it started 2010. About ~8 months have passed.
Ayy, that’s about when I started reading! Did you also find out about this because Jeff referenced it at the bottom of a Questionable Content strip?
“there are decades where nothing happens and weeks where decades happen”
–David Willis, probably
Alice is calculating the relationship combinations. Buffering…
Yeah, Wally! Nothin’ to see here. (If ya know what’s good for ya….)
She just had to make sure that Wally hadn’t somehow amassed a harem.
I think she was making sure that she didn’t need to tell him Dorothy had cheated on him (by ensuring they weren’t together when Dorothy did laundry with Joyce)
She was making sure her tit pic didn’t go to him
Wait, no, I’m wrong, that was only 2 days ago. I retract fully.
Wait, if that was only 2 days ago, what happened one week ago? Let’s see that would be 7 chapters ago. Goes off to check.
As others have pointed out, Joyce said to Jennifer less than an hour ago that by some definitions, she maybe had sex “a week ago, by accident, with my best friend”
https://www.dumbingofage.com/2025/comic/book-15/04-the-only-exception/youvemet/
We are all Alice this day
Speak for yourself.
We are all Alice this day.
Soon you will be Alice too.
We are Alice.
Resistance is futile.
You will be ass-imilated.
Alice has a lot of group dynamics to catch up on. And BOY is she enjoying it.
Well, when you shuffle the pairing every two or so weeks, it takes a lot of catching up.
it’s like archive-binging, but for dumb college hookup bullshit
Apparently there’s together and TOGETHER. In the DoAverse.
hot goss buns
Willis loves making fun of McEldowny, but there’s one thing McE. never did: he never shortened “gossip” to “goss.” *Shudder*
(Can you divine from this that McEldowny is right up my alley?)
…Okay, that is an entirely reasonable and accurate timeline statement to make! Walky was not with Dorothy then, so, not his biz.
OKAY SO BILLIE PICKED UP ON WHO JOYCE WAS TALKING ABOUT HNMMMMMMMM.
If Jennifer Billingsworth, Investigative Reporter, can figure it out… Alice, with almost no knowledge of who these people are certainly did. Slurp.
Am I forgetting something? I thought the timeframe for all the Joyce/Dorothy stuff has only been like 3 days or so in-world. Well, I mean since Dorothy’s whole awakening. Has it been a whole week? God the nature of time in this comic can really be confusing sometimes.
I think the laundry trip was before Lucy and Walky split? Pretty sure that’s what Jen is referencing here
Yes, laundry strip started at https://www.dumbingofage.com/2023/comic/book-13/02-turning-saints-into-the-sea/gopee/ , the immediately previous strip Dorothy was giving Walky advice about his still ongoing relationship with Lucy.
Dorothy masturbating with Joyce was during “Turning Saints Into the Sea”.
https://www.dumbingofage.com/2025/comic/book-15/04-the-only-exception/youvemet/
Here, Joyce told Jennifer that she accidentally had sex with her best friend (laundry room events) a week ago.
Ohhhhh yeah okay it all adds up now
According to some definitions.
(Per Billie’s logic anyways, about the first paragraph.)
Yeah, I was about to object that “Jennifer and Alice” didn’t cheat on the boyfriend. Alice did. If i happened at all.
Alice cheated on the boyfriend WITH Jennifer. THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS A PRECISION INSTRUMENT.
Is Walky considered a “piece of shit” ex, though? I thought he and Jennifer were on pretty good terms, at least as good terms as Jennifer ever is.
You mean in the 15 minutes tops between leaving prom and the car crash on the drive home from prom?
They could have gone to some secluded spot to park, keep drinking and have sex and then crashed afterwards really on the way home.
I doubt it though.
I assume they did it well before prom, but not as a romantic relationship thing, just friends fooling around – at least on Jennifer’s part.
Also Billie was probably drunk when they had sex. Billie was probably drunk for most of the sex she had in high school. I doubt she’d use that as an excuse to brush it off though. That’s just something best friends do. No need for an excuse.
Or they could have had sex at various points before Chester.
It’s not impossible, but I don’t see why cheating should be assumed here.
But does the first coming, with Dorothy keeping watch outside, actually count as a bang?
I don’t think it does, even speaking objectively, but because Joyce said she thinks it does, some people think it does. I think if Jennifer knew the details she’d also disagree on it being a bang.
Mess…
We’re dumbing it up!
I’m trying to remember what happened a week ago in-universe that Billifer might be thinking about here.
From what Joyce told her, Joyce maybe had sex with her best friend a week ago by accident.
https://www.dumbingofage.com/2025/comic/book-15/04-the-only-exception/youvemet/
Ah yeah, that makes sense. I lose track of how much time has gone by in DoA sometimes, because a few months in-universe has been over a decade of real time.
Jennifer Billingsworth: Lesbian Love Sleuth
Maybe this character growth will lead to her journalism growth
Not unless she finds Amazi-Girl schtupping– wait, who’s Amber banging at this point?
…that was only a week ago??
I thought it was the cleavage pics.
That was my first instinct too, but turns out that was only 2 days ago. https://www.dumbingofage.com/2024/comic/book-15/02-the-one-where-jocelyne-returns/pathetic/
So yeah, everyone’s right, it’s about Joyce mentioning maybe having sex with her best friend “about a week ago”
She’s referring to Joyce shoving her cock in and out of Dorothy in an act which resembled sexual intercourse.
Link???
C’mon Taffy, you’re not supposed to let secrets from the Other Patreon out to the public.
oh yeah Happy Summer Solstice to all Pagans here who celebrate!!!
(^-^)
Oh crud it’s summer already
That explains the heat dome over my area.
Happy Winter Solstice to those in the southern hemisphere!!
Back in my home country, it is Native New Year, where the (still living) native people of the country are celebrating the start of the new year of their calendar.
And Winter solstice down in the Antipoods, and Matariki in New Zealand.
Kia ora, a fellow NZer in the comment section?
Yep
Does the existence of antipoods imply the existence of poods?
Absolutely. The Anti-poods are averse to the Poods.
Note to self: Go around saying “You know most of this stuff was made up in the 18th century, right?” on 4th of July.
My hero.
Yeah, and happy returns to you too.
Willis really cooked when he made Walky say My Peer Group’s Smoochy Chart is Basically Now an Ouroboros
Huh, I guess some people really do network in different ways.
I’m so glad Alice is in this strip.
She’s delightful
Alice wondering whether these two are exes
She’s had plenty of time to wonder about it.
I hope she asks. Billie, I mean, Jennifer, always appreciates it so much when people ask her or imply about her having dated Walky.
There are definitely very close friends of my sisters’ who have trouble remembering my name.
Weren’t Walky, Sal and Billie-Jen already close friends since they were kids? Pretty sure Alice already knew they were.
By high school, Sal was out of the picture, in Tennessee. And I’m pretty sure that Walky was not someone that Billie associated with if she could help it.
In the first scene where Alice shows up:
https://www.dumbingofage.com/wally/
But he apparently still felt comfortable enough to snark at her directly at prom.
So that’s why Alice likes Jennifer.
Got it.
I’m sure beating up her rapist live on stage didn’t hurt.
Yeah, but she liked her long before then.
Want you to know this specific comment makes me believe that if Alice heard about half the shit Joyce has done she’d probably fall in love with her. I desperately need to see this dynamic unfold of Alice getting to know Joyce post-fundie arc.
“So what did Alice and Billie see in each other anyway?”
Then I see the look in Alice’s eyes when she gets to absorb ambient relationship drama from her proximity and I go, ah. I see.
Alice looks like a kid in a candy store here, and I am here for it.
Heres a cue: Cheating… requires…. cheating.
Well, for those that want to be moralistic: None of Billifer’s business either, gossiping about something she heard Joyce say but does not have correct anyway.
She isn’t doing that tho? The opposite. I know moralizing usually invomves making stuff up vit still.
No, if your friend’s SO cheated on your friend, it’s DEFINITELY your business to let them know so they act accordingly.
It’s increasingly frowned upon to actually be a friend to someone and tell them when you know something that might harm or upset them.
Warn them ahead of time that something could harm them? No, no, that’s anti-Darwinian. Does the species no good at all.
It’s not DEFINITELY your business. Most people would probably appreciate the heads up but the situation is extremely delicate and complicated, so you really shouldn’t be appending any absolutes.
At the very least, there’s no mandate to cover for them. She’s doing nothing wrong here.
I fail sto see how that has anything to do with this.
I’m assuming that is a statement, not a question, since it wasn’t framed as a question.
Yeah it wasn’t.
“My inquiries about YOUR personal live is none of YOUR business” slightly upset me.
It’s kind of awkward, but understandable.
If this is about Dorothy/Joyce and he’d already been back together with Dorothy, then it’s something he should be told about, since it’s part of his personal life. Since he wasn’t, it’s just gossip about their personal lives he doesn’t need to know.
I guess I get it.
lol This is immediately after Walky said he was happy to see that they patched things up. He should’ve told her that seat was taken, she’s so annoying
She literally, out of zero obligation, just did him the solid of verifying he wasn’t being cheated on.
WITHOUT actually slipping him any actual dirt. Good girl, Billie.
huh no popcorn with lunch Alice?
Wait, was the reason Billie was so pissed at Lucy and Jacob was because she thought Lucy was still dating Walky?
No, ot was pretty clearly because they were happy together and she was miserable and alone.
help this strip is so fucking funny
Of course she’s not bi. She just had sex with her best friend, like you do. Bi’s only in porn anyway.
The extent to which people take this COMIC STRIP waaay too seriously never fails to amaze me.
The extent to which people morally judge fictional characters when the cartoonist is clearly toying with their imaginary lives for drama is amazing, that’s true.
Good on Jennifer. Both for wanting to make sure Walky wasn’t being potentially cheated on and also keeping Dorothy’s secret once she confirmed they weren’t together at the time
Three days.
While this is all true, the Joyce x Joe relationship is obviously more meaningful than Dorothy x Walky
The Paramore War.
Is…is Walky a pussy farmer?
Anyone see where wasatchlawyers.com published a study revealing the safest and most dangerous college towns in the USA?
Bloomington came in as the 10th most dangerous.
I hope they’re not basing it on this webcomic. Three murders, a campus shooting and a stabbing would certainly bias the data to a degree.
Smooth, Billie. Real smooth.
IMO it is. For instance, if your partner and your best friend slept together and they don’t tell you, that’s really fucked up!
If it was during the relationship yeah, but beofre that it is really not.
We seem to be talking past each other, so I don’t think there’s much of a discussion to be had.
I wasn’t really discussing anything, just telling you i think you are wrong about the thing you said
Can you explain why?
I hope you don’t ever have any relationship. This is creep behavior
Weird attitude in your comments today, mate. Are you okay?
