I’ve found that spitting on anyone who tries to engage me in conversation is the best cure. A few weeks of that at most and your wonderful status will be reduced to neutral or worse.
On the rebound only requires that it’s over. Doesn’t matter who actually did the dumping. Thing is they aren’t really over, just until the next time Dorothy decides it’s on again.
It’s definitely a character flaw. One that’s been hinted at since the early days, when the whole relationship started.
I kind of like it – less interesting if she really was the perfect cinnamon roll.
Sorry that would be “dis”. “Diss” is a variant of the word that has managed to gain traction since the ’80s ended and has now become the standard spelling in most uses. Now I’m’a stop illin’ ’cause I gotta get to work. ;D
Actually, the meat and carbs of the pizza are a better choice for an active lifestyle, Amber. the protein helps build muscle fibers and the carbs help with fueling cellular action.
Yeah I was confused why she thought she’d need more veggies because of her “active lifestyle”. Well, I guess college students aren’t nutrition experts.
Well, I’d say she said it probably because of how much fat a normal pizza contains and how a pizza with only meat and cheese doesn’t contain many vitamins…
That is to say, pizza in itself isn’t bad, but you’d still need complementary nutrition in the form of greens. The tomato sauce doesn’t really count in that regard.
A whole italian style deep-freeze pizza gets you around 800-1000 kcals with maybe 15 g of meat (if you don’t believe me, get of the meat parts and weight them) and if the stuff that looks like cheese contains any proteins depends on if it’s real cheese or not.
A fresh-made pizza like from Galasso’s might have more protein because of real cheese and more meat, but still, compared to the total amount of kalories it’s not much.
When i’m working full time, when school isn’t in session, a large portion of my daily caloric intake is from pizza. The take-and-bake across the street from my shop gives us 50% off, and even packing in lunch, I still need more calories in a 9-12 hour shift. These aren’t your normal ‘fast food’ pizzas, though, they’re hand made gourmet jobs you cook yourself. With the exception of “pepperoni trio”, they’re all quite healthy.
Walky, Amber, you both need to climb down off that garbage roof, go back to your rooms and start over. You are not doing yourselves any favors by being like this, you both have people that you find wonderful, that make you happy and you want to make happy. Standing up on the roof eating pizza isn’t fixing that, it’s just putting it off.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to throw more stones inside my glass home, still waiting for the roof to collapse in on me.
Oh my heck, thank you! Dorothy and Danny are absurdly good for Walky and Amber. I just wish they could all get their heads on straight. My poor dumb children.
…goddam it Amber. Can you go a single scene without revealing how screwed up in the head you are?
I’m not blaming Amber for her issues here, but this just strikes me as spreading her warped views to someone else.
And I mean that. Wally didn’t bring up feelings of inadequacy that Amber is commicerating over, Amber is projecting her own feelings in a manner that places the blame on Dorothy’s feet.
The lesson she’s imparting to Walky, by using the examples she does, is that his problems are a matter of nature (of the scorpion and the frog variety) and so Walky cannot improve himself, shouldn’t try, and shouldn’t seek a relationship with anyone “better” than him because of it.
…As I said, Amber is projecting her own issues. …she is seeing a psychologist at this point right? Has that been mentioned since the stabbing?
What they’re BOTH doing is sharing a common frustration they have. Neither of them actually BLAMES Dorothy (or Danny) for being so great. But when you’re fucked up and struggling, it’s hard being around someone who seems to have their shit completely together. Even if it’s only the shit you’re struggling with they have a handle on, and they’re still a mess otherwise.
It can be very, very hard to avoid comparing yourself to them, and your failures to their successes. Having the other person on a pedestal doesn’t help, either.
Amber isn’t projecting her issues onto Walky’s situation. They have the same issue here. They’re commiserating. That’s the whole point of garbage roof, and it’s basically how support groups work
He’s actually been VERY good at it with Amber. It often wasn’t enough, but he did great.
Even if he weren’t though, it’s how Amber sees him. She feels like he’s mastered the shit she’s constantly fucking up. It doesn’t matter if that perception is accurate, she can’t shake it.
….did she just imply that her stomach size doesn’t correspond to her diet, immediately after saying she needs to eat more vegetables? Seems like there’s a chance it corresponds just fine.
(Not trying to minimize Amber’s clear body issues or anything, but her presumably carb/protein diet paired with her exercise-heavy lifestyle will naturally correspond more to putting on muscle weight than taking off fat-weight)
Yeah for instance I usually would find someone like Dorothy to perfect for my taste and on certain levels I do, but thing is I haft to respect go getters so she atleast has that going for her.
Also Love is hard work and if the person your with made you feel like it’s all worth it every moment your with them then that just says you had a good thing going with them.
You can’t actually get an indirect kiss off of pizza anyway, because where your lips end up where you bite isn’t where the last person’s lips ended up when they bit. (Assuming you sink your lips into the pizza when you bite it anyway, which would be weird.)
The traditional carrier for an indirect kiss is a can or bottle, because on those the lips to touch the same parts from one person to the next.
Willis you are a master story teller, able to understand and convey thoughst and feelings better with you character than many of us are ate recognizing in ourselves.
Just wanted to say that, you strips are often the best part of my day, the part where I feel the most human as well.
Willis you are a master story teller, able to understand and convey thoughts and feelings better with you characters than many of us are at recognizing in ourselves.
Just wanted to say that, you strips are often the best part of my day, the part where I feel the most human as well.
I think that Amber’s experiences have left her more than a little resentful of those who aren’t a total mental and behavioural mess. I’m sure that the fact that Walky finds Dorothy perfect is a bit bizarre to her.
I’m not the biggest fan of these Walky and Amber strips, but damn, sometimes even in interactions between character combinations I don’t much care for, certain panels sneak up on me and strike a chord, hard. The fourth panel was one such instance.
I’ve struggled with thoughts almost identical to those and let them feed into a belief that I really don’t deserve to be in a loving relationship, or deserve love at all, even when IN a loving relationship presently. There are billions of people in the world, why would someone choose to be with me when there are surely people you could find far more easily with normal family situations, normal brains, and normal bodies? That’s the kind of question I end up asking myself on my worst days, and I’m so impressed with just how eerily close Amber’s line is to real things I’ve thought.
Loving yourself is really hard, and I really appreciate Willis’ very real depiction of that challenge that some of us struggle so much with.
Walky should realize that Dorothy isn’t perfect. Dorothy has a compulsion to get a overload of work, puts work over human relationships, and had big ambitions that are difficult to follow. A saner thing to do would be to talk with Dorothy about that instead of glorifying her and shit talk about her behind her back.
It’s not just “a lazy kid like Walky”. Dorothy’s a perfectionist (which is different than being perfect) and is seen that way by other people. She’s complained about people thinking she’s perfect before.
But he’s not really shit talking her, he’s saying how frigging wonderful she is.
And I’d say Dorothy generally tries and fails to put work over human relationships. She thinks she should, because she wants to be so focused on her goals, but those emotions keep betraying her. We see this from the very start of her relationship with Walky and her various attempts to limit that relationship, that she kept sabotaging herself.
Oh Walky, when are you going to realize that Dorothy isn’t perfect at all. I mean, she sets arbitrary boundaries on relationships that she doesn’t adhere to at all. Her attempts to be the most mature person in the room lead her to make decisions for other people without taking their feelings into account because she thinks that’s what’s best for them as if she’s their mom instead of their friend or girlfriend. Dotty is great but she’s nowhere near perfect, dude.
Optimus Prime broke down and cried on the set of "Transformers" (2007) due to the extensive use of green screen filming. He reportedly said, "This is not why I became an actor."
“I’m just going to say it, shame on any of us who throws a trans child under the bus for thinking they’re going to get elected. That child deserves our support. Don’t worry about the pollsters calling it distractions, because we need to be the party of human dignity.”
Minnesota Star Tribune@startribune.com ⋅ 1d
Gov. Tim Walz is doubling down on trans rights — and criticizing members of his party who are retreating — at a time when the issue has become a political lightning rod nationally and back home in Minnesota.
they managed to get the arms and thighs to be different grays, which I wasn't sure they'd be able to do, the way the mold's set up
though maybe they're just producing a lot of extra thighs and/or arms in the wrong colors and throwing those away, i dunno
“dang, good thing you aren’t with THAT nightmare fuel anymore”
this is, of course, yet another manifestation of the greatness of Faz
Some people just can’t help being wonderful.
We’re sorry.
It’s a curse we must live with
We try not to (be wonderful), but, y’know…it’s just so HARD. xD
I’ve found that spitting on anyone who tries to engage me in conversation is the best cure. A few weeks of that at most and your wonderful status will be reduced to neutral or worse.
Umm, that’s what she said?
-runs away
how dare she be a perfect cinnamon roll
Alas, Walky toils in far too cold and dark a world for such cinnamoned purity as she
her cinnamony glory is too perfect for his world
Too good, too pure
The only one pure enough to deserve Dorothy’s cinnamon purity, imho, would be…Joyce.
No one is worthy of her cinnamony goodness! She must remain forever untouched and untouchable, forever alone in her perfectness!
…..
…. okay, cinnamon rolls are depressing me now.
It’s okay, just wait for the sugar rush.
Meh, wonderful is overrated Walky. XD
Nah it’s a pretty good podcast
Ah, a fellow man of culture I see
But is an overrated Walky wonderful?
I feel like this is leading in to some kind of weird flirting.
Damn I don’t ship this at all
Normally I wouldn’t, but I want to see Danny’s reaction.
Man, Walky can’t get anyone unless they’re on the rebound from Danny, can he?
Does it count as on the rebound when they both dumped him?
Legitimately asking…
On the rebound only requires that it’s over. Doesn’t matter who actually did the dumping. Thing is they aren’t really over, just until the next time Dorothy decides it’s on again.
I kinda really don’t like that aspect of Dorothy.
It’s definitely a character flaw. One that’s been hinted at since the early days, when the whole relationship started.
I kind of like it – less interesting if she really was the perfect cinnamon roll.
The only way to break the pattern is to cut out the middlewoman and just have Walky date Danny.
I hearby name this ship the SS Garbage Skowl.
Fueled, naturally, by garbage pie.
*scowl
One of these days I’ll learn to English. Honest.
Did you mean “scow” or “scowl”? One being a boat and the other being an angry facial expression.
Because if you meant “scowl”…well played.
I meant a pun on the two, which I then misspelled.
Obviously you spelled it that way to be kool.
As a fan of SS Garbage Skowl I insist the original spelling remain intact :p
I prefer the original version, it’s funnier.
NOW DISS
Who diss?
You diss!
Tar diss. (Now kiss).
Honestly, my brain couldn’t comprehend the second ‘s’ and simply read
TARDIS
Diss what?
Diss Stink
The power of voodiss!
I believe a “diss” is defined a form of insult that “the kids” do to one another “these days”.
Sorry that would be “dis”. “Diss” is a variant of the word that has managed to gain traction since the ’80s ended and has now become the standard spelling in most uses. Now I’m’a stop illin’ ’cause I gotta get to work. ;D
*The Eric Clapton cut playing on the hacked P.A. speaker gets to the electric guitar solo…*

Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves

Yeah, because vegetarians and vegans are known not to be active out of the net.
A whole italian style deep-freeze pizza gets you around 800-1000 kcals with maybe 15 g of meat (if you don’t believe me, get of the meat parts and weight them) and if the stuff that looks like cheese contains any proteins depends on if it’s real cheese or not.

Eating pizza makes everything better.
Oh my heck, thank you! Dorothy and Danny are absurdly good for Walky and Amber. I just wish they could all get their heads on straight. My poor dumb children.
The adventures of Amazi-Girl and her sidekick, Meh-Dude!
Surely you mean Duke of Thingley?
Surely you mean Meh-Duke?
Maybe “Duke Meh” works better.
“Those alien bastards just shot down my ride! Whatever.”
Maw-meh-duke
No, that’s his high society alter ego.
…goddam it Amber. Can you go a single scene without revealing how screwed up in the head you are?

Wait. Did you just say Danny is great?
Danny is… supportive. He’s not always very good at it, but when in possession of all the information, he does want to do the right thing.
He’s terrible at it, but he does have sort of the instinct that would allow him to be great if he weren’t, you know, terrible.
He’s actually been VERY good at it with Amber. It often wasn’t enough, but he did great.
Even if he weren’t though, it’s how Amber sees him. She feels like he’s mastered the shit she’s constantly fucking up. It doesn’t matter if that perception is accurate, she can’t shake it.
danny does his best
….did she just imply that her stomach size doesn’t correspond to her diet, immediately after saying she needs to eat more vegetables? Seems like there’s a chance it corresponds just fine.
(Not trying to minimize Amber’s clear body issues or anything, but her presumably carb/protein diet paired with her exercise-heavy lifestyle will naturally correspond more to putting on muscle weight than taking off fat-weight)
*reads Amber describing Dorothy as not having a normal family*
*reads Willis’s commentary over at IW! Reloaded*
…..
….. so, someone explain to me what counts as “normal”, again?
I think the “without” in Amber’s speech bubble is referring to “without a normal family / without a brain that works / without a stomach shape…” etc.
So Amber would be referring to how Dorothy has a normal family here.
…..
One of these days I’ll learn to read. Honest.
It doesn’t exist. It’s a myth Hollywood created to convince us that the 1950s weren’t a time of near totally breakdown.
You misread. Amber is describing herself and Walky as not having normal families.
In which she’s wrong, since by DoA standards, Dorothy’s wonderful family is not normal.
*recites off a list* Dina’s, Sierra’s, Carla’s…
Hell, compared to hers, Walky’s family is normal. Not great, but not deliberately abusive either. Charles and Linda suck, but they’re not Blaine.
Deliberately being the key word there…
Partly. They’re also just not on the same scale.
I wouldn’t say the Walkertons are normal, but I will say that Blaine is worse.
Dorothy’s definitely not perfect, what with her trying to do too much at once and burning out.
Dang it! No indirect kiss…
I honestly hadn’t given the specifics much thought.
I just want them to make out and that seemed the closest we’re going to get right now.
Willis you are a master story teller, able to understand and convey thoughst and feelings better with you character than many of us are ate recognizing in ourselves.
Just wanted to say that, you strips are often the best part of my day, the part where I feel the most human as well.
Wrote on phone originally and missed errors.
Willis you are a master story teller, able to understand and convey thoughts and feelings better with you characters than many of us are at recognizing in ourselves.

is that pizza cold?
Pizza is a dish…
Best served cold.
And, it’s very cold…
On Garbage Roof.
I’m not the biggest fan of these Walky and Amber strips, but damn, sometimes even in interactions between character combinations I don’t much care for, certain panels sneak up on me and strike a chord, hard. The fourth panel was one such instance.

That doesn’t seem fair towards Dorothy.
I think it’s less sincere on Walky’s part and he’s still thinking about how much he misses Dorothy.
Nothing says loving like mutual self-loathing.
The math of love, two minuses make a plus…
Walky should realize that Dorothy isn’t perfect. Dorothy has a compulsion to get a overload of work, puts work over human relationships, and had big ambitions that are difficult to follow. A saner thing to do would be to talk with Dorothy about that instead of glorifying her and shit talk about her behind her back.
Well for a lazy kid like Walky a woman who has lofty goals and works extra hard to achieve them seems like perfection.
It’s not just “a lazy kid like Walky”. Dorothy’s a perfectionist (which is different than being perfect) and is seen that way by other people. She’s complained about people thinking she’s perfect before.
Pretty much, Walky compares her perfectionist attitude and hard work to his own lazy and laid back attitude and finds himself to be severely lacking.

Dotty is great but she’s nowhere near perfect, dude.
Like thinking she knows what is best for Danny (which she was kind of right), or being angry at Walky for wearing pajama jeans.
I mean after Danny implied she might give on her dreams, he was getting dumped anyways, but yes, Dorothy is not perfect.
I really like the pizza transition between panels 1 and 2. It’s visually very clever!
“You wanna make out?”
“Kinda. Let me finish this slice first.”
“Cool.”
I wonder if it’s really that easy…
Fingers crossed
