Too bad it’s going to be decades in our timeline until They’re Roommates? hits its stride and starts plotlines involving the Venusians led by Sinister, and the secret government organization tasked with stopping them.
No, the Venusians are a third faction entirely, opposed to both the Extraterrestrials led by Sinister/the Lead Extraterrestrial, and the secretive government organization.

I mean, yeah, that shooting made the news. I’m not surprised Jacob mentioned he was hanging out with the girl who punched the dickbag responsible.
I hope Harrison gets along this well with Raidah, because I really don’t want this working out for Joyce in ANY regard.
….This is probably going to get worse before it gets better.
I know I shouldn’t be hoping for it, but I do actually hope he dislikes Raidah, though I don’t want Joyce to be rewarded for this either.
I get wanting him to dislike Raidah because she can be pretty mean herself. For me, though, this storyline ruins that possibility.
He can think dislike both Joyce and Raidah.

Real question: what will Jaime think of Raidah? He’s been smiling this whole time and wouldn’t it be interesting if he burst into tears when she tries to tickle him.
Again, not terrible in theory, but this storyline has soured me on the possibility. I’m not down for Jacob’s family to prefer Joyce to Raidah.
Except Radiah has hinted she’s also with Jacob because of his brother, the legend and had plans to impress Harrison aka try too hard.. She’s disregarded Jacob’s age and also some of his interests. Both have same priorities though and no shame in that! Bonus points for her trying to be secure in the relationship though it kind of comes off as a superiority complex with how she interacts with her own friends. Normally I’d be totally with you on the hating Joyce more due to all of this… but from a different perspective – not sure someone dating my bro with hopes he becomes the next Legend is any better than latch on girl who genuinely likes him. And one wasn’t “worth writing home about” but Joyce was. Probably would take an interest in Joyce just because of that. Mind you we’ve only seen Radiah “the opposition” not Radiah the girl in pajamas. I’d bet on him telling Jacob he could do better than either… unless he sees Radiah The Opposition because Jacob never let Harrison know the girl in pajamas and she’s Really Trying.
Well, he’s obviously mentioned the girlfriend too and you could argue that he only used Joyce’s name so Harrison could follow the news stories about the incident.
As for Raidah, while we haven’t seen that much of her, we have seen her hanging out with her friends and she’s worse then. And there are definite hints that she’s not being open with Jacob.
Yeah, I mentioned that part of Radiah. That still isn’t the same as seeing her and Jacob without peer posturing or with people she’s agitated with. Benefit of doubt that Jacob isn’t completely clueless as pizza thought bubbles might imply.
We’ve seen her with her friends. We’ve seen her alone with Jacob – which was actually my high point for liking her. She talked about how she wasn’t like those jealous girls. Then as soon as she saw a threat from Joyce, she moved into attack mode – strongly hinting that her non-jealous talk wasn’t real.
And near as I can tell, Jacob is completely clueless – though affected by Joyce’s charm anyways.
You say it’s going to get worse like a bad thing. Excuse me while I actively root for the firestorm of the millennia.
Oh no, this is gonna be fucking great, story wise, I’m speaking from a ‘loving the characters’ point there. From the writing standpoint…yeah, bring it on.
This hits the level of cringe I have trouble enjoying. Even from a “drama” standpoint.
In a comic (or a novel) I can handle it, but if it was a show I’d be turning it off.
Yeah, I didn’t think I would hope for things to go horribly wrong for Joyce, yet here we are. What in the world could she possibly be thinking? This is so fucked up.

What if the plot twit is that he never meets her during the visit so when he has a bunch of nice things to say about Jacob’s girlfriend it actually improves their relationship?
And Joyce doesn’t go with him to see Jacob and he never mentions the shooting part or anything else about her.
I really hate that kind of contrived rom-com plot.
Normally I would to, but this would backfire on Joyce’s lie so it’s all good!
I hope he doesn’t like Raidah. Whether or not this works out for Joyce being irrelevant, I don’t want Raidah to be rewarded for basically hooking up to Jacob just to get a chance to smarming up to Harrison. It’s entirely as political move on her behalf, and I think it’s pretty gross.
If Joyce actually comes clean about not being Jacob’s girlfriend before Harrison goes upstairs, I’ll let her off on this. One thing to lie in the heat of the moment when an opportunity presents (and with Joyce being as horny for Jacob as she is, I think everything is heated), it’s another one to let the lie stand for too long.
I don’t think that’s why Raidah is with Jacob, but if this doesn’t work out for Joyce, I can live with him disliking Raidah. I’m just already sick of the commentariot idea that Harrison and/or the rest of his family will like Joyce, dislike Raidah and this will lead to Joyce and Jacob.
That I can whole-heartedly agree with. Plus, I don’t even see how it would work. Her pretending to be his girlfriend is just too huge a red flag to be overlooked. Not without serious hijinks intervening.
If she’d just introduced herself and they’d talked based on Jacob telling him more about her than his actual girlfriend or something, then I could see it happening.
But when Raidah introduces herself to Harrison, he assumes she is lying and that she’s the stalkerish one.
And Jacob goes along with it?
Jacob isn’t there.
Oh boy Joyce, you just keep digging yourself into this hole. We’ll be standing here pulling our hair out or eating popcorn, depending on the person.

Ah yes, “Cohabitants” by Willard Davis. I much prefer his later work, like “That’s Winky” and “Understocked”.
“That’s Winky” sounds like a “Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend” kinda comic where at the end of each strip a young boy ends up starkers from the waist down.
Don’t know how we got from here to Winsor McCay, but I guess as long as we’re acknowledging significant moments in cartoonist history it fits.

Either way, I do not like the implication of Harrison’s use of the word “nabbed”.

For Jacob’s part, it sounds like he hasn’t said much about Raidah. His mention of Joyce was in connection with a larger topic that he may or may not have been the one to bring up.
Quite probably. I’d assume that basically every student on campus got calls from their family asking about the happy fun gun times incident. Only natural to mention you knew one of the people involved.

Nah, the ship was always a slow moving one with a few stops on the way.
That’s what I like least about this Joyce/Jacob plot on the meta level. I actually like them together and think they’d make a fun couple, but this approach makes me not want them to get together and makes me think we will end up with Joyce/Joe instead – and I like that pairing a lot less.
Because Joyce was involved in the Ross episode. Possibly Harrison mentioned it to Jacob, and Jacob said he knew the Joyce who was involved.
Yeah – of those significantly involved with the campus shooting, only Joyce’s, Becky’s, Dina’s, and Ross’s names were known to the public (Amazi-Girl’s identity isn’t known, and Sal cleared out of there before the cops came for self-evident reasons).
This storyline is full of bad.

Joyce, this is the second stupidest thing you’ve done.(First was thinking you could turn Ethan straight.) There is no way in hell this can go any way but bad.
Oh she has done a lot of stupid things: the Ethan situation, being in denial about evolution, sabotaging any attempts of Dorothy and Walky to sort things out, trying to break up Jacob and Radiah, act like a bigot in Jacob’s church, actively not remembering Danny in this universe, hire Mike to beat the shit out of Joe, slut shame Joe and Roz, etc.
She’s done worse things.
This might be the stupidest. In the sense that it should have already blown up in her face and she was only saved for the moment by Harrison wanting to talk to her first and not knowing the girlfriend’s name.
The others made sense from her screwed up point of view. Even from there, this shouldn’t be working even this long.

I somehow have the feeling that they’d meet Raidah somewhere, she busts her, and Jacob will feel estranged from/angry with both of them. Or something similar. Impending drama either way…
I forgot Harrison already is married and has a baby for a second and was like wait what if Joyce falls in love with him?
Also though, I had a realization that I don’t think I saw anyone discuss. When Raidah was weird bragging about Harrison, she was definitely trying to bait Joyce into saying something anti trans (and to be fair, the main reason she didn’t have any reaction at all was probably not knowing what that meant).
Also re some of yesterday’s comments I’m beyting on him not liking Raidah. Maybe he’ll stop liking Joyce too after her creepy choices right now become clear, but also, his career does seem to involve human rights etc, and Raidah said to Dorothy (with a pretty straight face) that as a future lawyer she doesn’t care about human costs. (‘Contribute,’ when they’re all at the pizza shop)

Just one question occurs to me though: Why hasn’t Jacob discussed Raidah in any way with his brother? Not even a name? That’s a bit unusual, isn’t it?
He didn’t want anything serious and wanted to focus on studies is my guess. He’s pretty good at the “Not other people’s business” thing when his own roommate was mutually coming out to/with Danny and forgot he was in the room. Could be he’s just tight lipped until it’s important. Orrrrr the first date was a failed attempt at a room party for Joyce and it just hasn’t been long enough to register it’s a relationship to him versus casual dating.
Could be they don’t talk too much what with one being a new parent and one being a new student, both are pretty busy groups (If it wasn’t for offerings of babysitting, I don’t think I would have seen my brother for months when his kids were just born. And every time I did see him he was tiiiiired.)
Harrison did trans-related legal work. What are the chances that he knows Jocelyn? Especially given that this is a dramatic story and not real life?

Shhhhh. Lots of people didn’t put the Walkerton twins together at first. Ethan didn’t even put together Sal was the one who had a knife on his throat right away. Could be they have more physical differences in their reality. Make up in and of itself can completely change facial characteristics.
I’m wondering when Raidah’s gonna show up and how Joyce will try to get out of this hole she keeps digging.
Worst-Case Scenario:
Jacob takes this opportunity to create a second life where he has a ‘fun’ girlfriend rather than a career- and work-oriented one like Raidah. Joyce will be overjoyed at first but is she ready to be ‘the other woman’? Especially if Jacob very obviously has no intention of choosing between them?
This is so not-Jacob it would require him to be a completely different person.
I can think of, like, six scenarios worse than that, and I haven’t even started on the fine detail yet.

I dunno, I don’t feel AS weirded as the Train Wreck folks as yet. It’s still just “Nah we’re not actually dating, we’ve gone out for pizza but that’s all, I just wanted to see what you’d say if I played it off like we were since he’s already told me a little about you.”
I think we’re closer to “heh good one” or “that’s a little weird but whatever” than “OMG that is the most messed up scheme ever I’m getting a restraining order.” Still in the ballpark of college prank, so far.
Except for the part where Jacob does actually have a girlfriend that both Joyce and Harrison know about, so Joyce really is impersonating her here. There’s no innocent way to play this off.

I love this, Sir Willis is using his comic to poke at Sir Willis. Comic is pretty good too, although I am not sure what Joyce thinks she is going to accomplish, and I am getting flashbacks to her behavior with Danny in the old comic. I guess in any universe, certain character traits are a constant.
