I routinely have trouble buying my wife cards because they are full of too many sappy (and often rhyming) words.
I will start writing “I am aware” in them now.
I find the sappier the better. If you make it so extreme as to be ridiculous, then you can both laugh at how silly it is, but you also get to say how you feel about them without it having to be a big deal.

I have DoA magnets on my fridge that most people do not see. Perhaps one or two shall be moved to my car. I also now have DoA masks and a shirt and am hoping someone will recognize. It will be a very lovely moment.

Are the dangers of being Becky’s rebound crush diminishing?
I think the danger has passed, their relationship seems strong. I’m not sure Becky would give up Dina even if Joyce suddenly hits her head and becomes gay. Not that she wouldn’t be tempted.
Is that how that happens? Man, all those episodes of the Flintstones where Fred hits his head, and I don’t recall that ever happening.

Now the AU headcanon of all webcomic characters actively being fans of one another’s webcomics in an lattice-like framework, all aware that they are also in webcomics, themselves, and trying to influence the interwoven fabric of reality to get their ships to sail how they want exists in my head. I think in this case it’s partly Walky not living up to proper masculine protective roles. Letting the women fight for him.
And sometimes that’s so deeply embedded it’s hard to even see why we react so negatively.
I mean if you want to see Becky get completely shit on for it, feel free to go back to the comments sections for the comics where she and Joyce are visiting Joyce’s parents’ house (book 6, tail-end of chapter 2, plus 3 and 4)
People seem to give Walky a hard time, with no leeway for the fact that even though he was the Golden Child he was raised in an abusive home just as much as Sal was. He grew up favoured, sure, but always with the itch in the back of his head that love was conditional. He is similar to Joyce in a lot of ways.
Which is why they must never become OTP.
Just saying that “Reprieve” might have been a better title.

It occurs to me that I’m the Dina in my husband’s life. He can interpret my atypical behavior for what it is – the recognition of his lovable awesomeness. That’s why we’ve been together for twenty five years.

I think that Mr. Willis’ instinct for self preservation includes not getting the windmill treatment by an angry mob of peasant/students cornering him in his house …with torches and pitchforks, and DDOS, and stuff.
And masks, and spaced out in an even grid 6 feet apart.

That was when I quit “It’s Walky.” Not that Dina died, but than no one ever mentioned her again. No one noticed. No one cared.
That’s…not how I’d describe the aftermath of Dina’s death in the Walkyverse (between Walky flipping out and nearly beating Mike to death because he blamed him, to her funeral and Joyce and Walky’s relationship troubles because she believed Dina wasn’t going to heaven, to Dina actually appearing in the afterlife limbo place during the climax of the comic and talking with Walky)…
tl;dr “No one mentioned, noticed, or cared about her after she died” isn’t, at least IMO, an accurate assessment of Walkyverse views on Dina following her death.
Somewhere down in hell Ross is looking up and wondering. “Why did I try so hard to stop this?” He’s also wondering why he trusted such an obvious bad guy that ended up murdering him and also probably why he’s getting a hot poker shoved up his ass, but mostly the first one!
If anything I would imagine that his tiny brain can yet, Still not fathom/compass that much love existing. Love so free of control, so pure.

IIRC, Word of Willis is “on the spectrum, not diagnosed”, but I could be remembering that wrong.
I think the exact words were ‘never officially diagnosed’ with an acknowledgement they’re in a similar spot (as some stripe of neurodivergent, but not certain what – see also, every time we have the ‘wait is Joyce autistic or is this from being raised so rigid and restrictively?’ Discussion, Willis is usually on Twitter going ‘hey when you figure that out, let me know.’)

As someone who’s suspected to be on the spectrum but never been diagnosed or assessed, I can really relate to Dina so much in this strip.
Just because you don’t show emotions all the time doesn’t mean you don’t feel them.

The Feels Strike Back.
I was not a fan of Dina/Becky relationship. I didn’t think they were a good foil for each other in the general narrative of DoA and I usually got bored quickly when there were some consecutive strips with them alone together. But this strip opened my eyes and now I can see what it was all about. Well, it took some years, but it was worth it!
I hope we see what’s happening with Faz next. Not that I want to leave this wholesome scene (I could watch Dina and Becky be adorable forever), but after what happened last chapter, I’m actually concerned for him.

I often call my son (who is 20) over to read the funnier web comics. This morning was the first time I called him over to appreciate a loving relationship.
I dont know why but the language of “everyone has trouble reading Dina” as opposed to “Dina doesnt show her emotions in a commonly associated way” makes me happy
It’s just… SO casually affirming that Dina being Exactly Who She Is isn’t a problem for either of them, it’s wonderful.

Damn, this strip broke me down. I have a wonderful sad story about a Dina in my life, and this strip just killed me, bringing it all back. So nearly word-for-word it’s scary.
My first visit to DoA was because of Dina appearing in QC, attracting me like a magnet. I am forever thankful. There are few other things that taste so lovingly bittersweet to me.
