You know, I’m honestly not sure what to make of her expression in the last panel.
Which is too bad because, if I could, then I’d be able to comment on this moment more directly, as would normally be my wont.
Walky isn’t flashing Lucy in front of his sister. Can people here please be normal. Like as a joke okay but people are in the comments talking like it’s not a one-off comment box joke and an actual reading of the comic that Walky just committed a sex crime and made his sister an accomplice in it and that’s fucking insane.
Yeah, this particular strip isn’t really strong evidence of bad behavior on Walky’s part. Some days, it seems like We couof condemn these kids to Double Hell for giving an unsolicited TY Beanie Baby.
I mean you’re not wrong…..But he’s also maybe/accidentally?/intentionally? flashing Lucy his cock in this strip and if she wasn’t already into him this situation might be problematic. Like this is right on the borderline to the point I don’t know how to react to it.
Indeed. I am with Sirksome on this one.
I mean, the visual joke is that Lucy is the one taking the peek, but realistically, this is not practically different than sending someone an unsolicited dick pick.
The punchline of the comic is Walky being aware that his behavior is inappropriate and doing it anyway.
So… yeah. As I said above, I’m with Sirksome on this one.
Wouldn’t say he’s being a jerk in this case so much as a complete moron. If Lucy wasn’t so into him, he could EASILY go to jail right now. And while he’s smart, he’s socially dumb – Notice how he comments on underwear but not flashing? He thinks the biggest issue is the underwear
Becky, Walky, and Booster all need a reality check for different reasons. Becky for going WAY too far with her teasing, Walky for being a complete dunce and not realizing how lucky he is getting, and Booster for immediately being Mike 2.0
I’m pretty sure Walky is only showing Lucy because she was staring a hole through him in panel 3. Like “oh she must be checking out my sweet monkey master boxers.”
As much as the art makes it look like Walky is flashing Lucy, I think if that’s what was actually happening in-comic the reaction from his sister and maybe Lucy would be more along the lines of “What the FUCK is wrong with you???” instead of just mild annoyance.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’s not flashing her, but just showing her his monkey master boxers because he assumed that’s what Lucy was looking at in the previous panel, and not his abdomen.
I guess it’s open to artistic interpretation maybe even intentionally so but Lucy looks like she’s reacting to more than just Walky’s Monkey Master logo if you get what I’m saying. Mainly because she was already looking in that direction while Sal being his sister stopped looking that way understandably having no interest in that region of her brother. So I think you could argue both ways.
My question is if it’s appropriate to publicly display your crotch to someone unsolicited even if you think they’re into you? I’m not sure this is a crime but I feel Walky would at least get a slap for this if he wasn’t surrounded by people who like him.
He is pulling his underwear up. He is showing off his underwear. The dialogue says as much. He is not showing his junk. His junk is not visible. To anyone. Nothing in the strip claims he is showing his junk, but there is something pointing out he is showing his underwear. He started off showing his abs and now he is showing his underwear. Yes, Lucy is taking a guilty peek. At his abs and his underwear. Lucy has a crush, of course she’s flustered.
Whoa! I never said he was a sexual predator or even implied it. Just that his actions are inappropriate. I even stated above that it’s open to artistic interpretation. My opinion is that it’s more ambiguous. I was even asking if this was something okay to do because I don’t personally have any context for this as I’ve never flashed a girl my underwear in public.
To be clear here I don’t like Walky but I do think that context and intent are important and I don’t think he had the intent to make a pass at Lucy. If this were say that creep that harassed Lucy last night doing this I think a lot of people would be arguing differently on how this looks.
What I don’t get is why people always come out to Walky’s defense when he does something stupid like this.
Whelp. I guess I was wrong on this one. I do sincerely apologize for it. Not really to Walky though cause I hate him but to other commenters I may have upset with my bias and social ineptitude. I say that as sincerely as one can in a quasi anonymous comment. My bad.
Actually I do appreciate that clarification, Willis. It really did look like he was pulling up and out to give a better view. Not exactly a movement that works well in this art style from that angle
Ehh, he’s just being an extra manchild and doing things like picking on one flaw he noticed about Joyce and then showing girls his underwear.
I’ve long since lost the patience for Walkyantics, but on the grand scale of things his most annoying parts aren’t as bad as Becky or Joyce at their worst.
I’m not really getting the hate either, nor do I see this as him toying with sexual harassment. If anything, this seems to be him trying to deal with Lucy’s obvious crush on him in a gentle-but-teasing way.
Dw too much about it, it’s sirksome. Walky could blink and he’d have an issue with it (and then realize he just insulted like 50 other people in the comments)
in contrast, I think this is the first time I’ve really felt like he and Sal have a healthy sibling relationship. This feels like a very normal conversation for 18-year-old twins.
It hasn’t escaped my notice that Walky’s antics are exclusively aimed at women, either. Danny and Joe didn’t get insulted when Walky introduced them to Booster, but all the girls he introduced were.
On the other hand, he took Booster over to the girls wing because that’s where almost all his friends were. Ruth wanted him at the meeting because he’s virtually a resident.
Danny definitely got insulted when he introduced him, the whole hat thing was basically saying it was the only aspect of his personality. And those were the only two dudes Walky introduced.
Well, obviously, you know your own intentions better than I do, and I take this comment to mean there is not, in fact, a planned “Oh no Walky’s an incel” storyline like I was starting to expect.
One can only say “There are better options out their for her than Walky” so many times before they turn into an broken record of Joyce saying that. That being said I can understand why, when most people ignore you it’s a breath of fresh air when someone not only acknowledges you but is also nice to you in their own way.
Also, I choose to take “Don’t show anyone your underwear” as tactic advice. It lets the enemy know what kind you wear, which in turn opens you to underwear-based subterfuge.
As annoying as Walky is being since he returned from break, I’m starting to think that he’s using that blunt sarcasm to fend off other awkward feelings. Like when your grandfather dies and everyone is stressed, and you start making dark jokes because you’d rather not go to pieces in front of everyone. He’s fending off something, maybe the loss of Mike, maybe other stirred up feelings from dealing with his parents.
Agreed. This is just regular, single Walky. We’ve just gotten used to boyfriend Walky and depressed Walky. I.E. trying to be mature Walky. He’s stopped caring again.
Remember he asked Dorothy out by chucking a hard plastic toy at her head.
And then he hung around her room naked from the waist down while Sierra was present.
Actually, now that I think about it, I feel sorry for Booster. Walky is a slob and proud of it. Imagine the odors comeing from his side of the room.

I can Honestly say that Walky is my fav character in this Chapter, sure he can be annoying, but he is being the Goofy guy we need after the hard time. (Becky is still my fav overall, but for now, walky has my attention)
Why is everyone like “Lucy can do better” when Wally is a friendly, positive, clever, attractive guy from a rich family? His big flaw is what, that occasionally he’s silly or inappropriate?
Lucy can do better because Walky has been oblivious to her feelings thus far. He’s been shown to have good emotional intelligence, so it’s not beyond his capacity to realize he’s stringing her along
He does have potential; as you say, he’s attractive, and he’s fairly intelligent when he allows himself to be.
But he buries that potential on constantly behaving like a six year old, and he has no actual idea as to what he wants to do with his life. At the moment, he’s pretty much just drifting, and, without a significant change, is more likely to fail hard than to find a career that he finds fulfilling. Or that at least pays the bills.
As a character, he’s amusing. As a potential romantic partner? It’d be like having a kid at best, and drag you down with him at worst.
Mind you, that’s just at the moment – given a semester, maybe a year, he could certainly find his way once he discovers a subject that really interests him. He’d hardly be the first person to need some time at college to find themselves.
Walky is also either lazy, or suffering from ADD (or possibly both), has a limited set of interests (Dexter and Monkey Master and, what?) and has questionable personal grooming. (Remember when he mentioned not washing particularly well.)
One of the best thing that happened to me was the realization that I didn´t fall in love with people. I fell in love with the idea of being in love with people.
Not saying that´s what happened to you, but it reminded me of it.
Speaking of twins, has it ever been established which twin is the “older” one, in either universe? Walky certainly acts younger, but that’s probably just due to personality/circumstantial reasons.
I have cousins who are a pair of identical twins, and the birth order made a huge difference to them. Their parents decided early that the elder one was cleverer and pretty much framed everything so that the younger was always in his brother’s shadow. Even sent them to different medical schools. The elder twin ended up working in and then taking over their father’s practice, inherited all the social contacts… And the younger moved to Canada.
I’m sure that they meant to be kind, but parenting wasn’t their strong suit. And parents can do a lot of damage in a subtle way with things that they don’t even realise they are doing. Besides, the twins are fifteen years older than I, so I can’t really say who did what. But birth order clearly mattered more than a forty-minute difference of age.
Man Lucy is going to remember this for a LONG time, it looks like he pulled them forward so I don’t think she’s looking at the boxers, but rather the, ahem, ‘package’ they contained
I doubt that she can see that much, because if she could Sal would too. They seem to stand in similar angle to him.
And if Sal could see hit she probably would not comment on the Underwear.
He’s pulling them up and forward, but his pants only have so much give. She’s getting an eyeful of lower torso, maybe a hint of pube. She’d spontaneously combust if she saw more than that, anyway.
Everyone is getting on Walkys case for his innocent joking around ,demanding that anyone behaves like a full grown no fun adult adult all the time, yet they dont aknowledge the fact that walky is cleary anti-sexist here and for equal treatment and dont praise him for it.
So Walky really is that clueless. I can’t say I’m surprised, I’m not an exception, but out and out showing your boxers to a girl seems a bit too far even for a clueless guy.
I’m not sure, but I think I first heard the phrase “freshman 15” around the turn of the millennium (and never heard “freshman 10”), but I’m relatively young. I live in northeastern USA.
There is a wikipedia article about it which mentions the name change but doesn’t say when (other than that it was still called the “freshman 10” in a “New York Times” article in ’81). There is a surprising amount of info on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freshman_15
I wonder if Lucy is just going to get crushed? To me it seems like Lucy barely registers on Walky’s radar. If anything, more like an annoying kid who follows you around and you just tolerate.
It will be delightful if Walky’s metabolism is the next thing to go. That’s something Amber can’t just hack away. (Well, not that definition of “hack,” anyway.)
Sal, did you miss the detail that he bought them slightly used?
He’s not showing girls his underwear… he’s showing them someone else’s.
…that he’s wearing.
I can see the harem forming already…

I hope Josh Johnson is given The Daily Show and is allowed to rebuild it from scratch in his own image just like Jon Stewart got to do in 99.
He has built his own groundbreaking form of topical comedy, and imitating the style of others is something he is great at, but better than.

admittedly, i might be arriving at a little annoyance on behalf of anyone responded to ever with "WELL it's not called SMARTING of age" because that's become a lot, i think the fork might be in that one, it's done
today in #9chickweedlane i learned that "how to lie" is not, actually, achieved by cupping the balls, despite the evidence of the entirety of the first panel, but by some other giant pile of words i guess, tl;dr
“It’s not me who’s a bigot,” they always argue. “I’m fine with all you people. But the rest of the electorate is full of bigots, on whose behalf I will now speak”
I feel like Walky is absolutely showing off his monkey to Lucy rn
She def got a glimpse of the Walky weenie.
It’s good to get the disappointment out of the way now before she can build up expectations.
You know, I’m honestly not sure what to make of her expression in the last panel.
Which is too bad because, if I could, then I’d be able to comment on this moment more directly, as would normally be my wont.
Either she’s impressed with what she’s seeing, or she’s never seen one in person before. That’s my read on that expression.
I think it reminds me of the expression Sarah made when Mary agreed to make her Halloween drawing even more awesome by adding flames.
So supressed joy and satisfaction maybe?
Her expression is *very* clearly THIRST. I’m not sure how much more obvious it could be!
She is clearly salivating over his V-lines.

do you think he calls it his monkey master
He’d fucking better.

I think we’re somehow missing the main point here which is that Walky doesn’t consider Lucy to be anybody.
This.
Walky isn’t flashing Lucy in front of his sister. Can people here please be normal. I’m not commenting on it as “LOL WALKY FUNNAY” so much as, yes, he’s totally flashing someone, yikes
Y’know I’m just gonna say it. Walky has really been a jerk this arc. Like more than usual. He’s being particularly annoying today for some reason.
If you know a better way to honor Mike’s memory, I’d like to hear it.
Banging a mom for a nickle????
Adding some insight to his jerkitude?
Everybody has, just about.
I think he’s funny
Yeah, this particular strip isn’t really strong evidence of bad behavior on Walky’s part. Some days, it seems like We couof condemn these kids to Double Hell for giving an unsolicited TY Beanie Baby.
im p sure sirksom just particularly dislikes walky. unless there’s another commenter with that icon who vocally hates walky

Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’s not flashing her, but just showing her his monkey master boxers because he assumed that’s what Lucy was looking at in the previous panel, and not his abdomen.
Nope. His pants are literally around his knees. His dick is rapidly engulfing all known existence. He’s going to Turbojail for his sins.

I guess it’s open to artistic interpretation maybe even intentionally so but Lucy looks like she’s reacting to more than just Walky’s Monkey Master logo if you get what I’m saying. the entire punchline of that strip was Danny and Joe saying they felt insulted by walky’s introduction
Well, obviously, you know your own intentions better than I do, and I take this comment to mean there is not, in fact, a planned “Oh no Walky’s an incel” storyline like I was starting to expect.
I need friends like Wally in my life.
Mr. Bellybutton is still chilling on that sculpted caramel, I see
But why didn’t Mr. Bellybutton get tagged? Could it be a hint that this is, in point of fact, not Mr. Bellybutton but his alter, Mr. Amazibutton?
Nightbutton. Amazibutton would never forget their mask.
The Pupik of Thingley
the comic’s just digging lucy a deeper hole now
One can only say “There are better options out their for her than Walky” so many times before they turn into an broken record of Joyce saying that. That being said I can understand why, when most people ignore you it’s a breath of fresh air when someone not only acknowledges you but is also nice to you in their own way.
Hey, it doesn’t have to be long term. It’s college, she’s allowed to fool around and make mistakes.
She sees that D. Everyone can see that D. He has his boxers open fully!
“Do as I say, not as I do.” Seriously, don’t do as Walky does.
Now, there’s a merch option. I’d totally buy boxers like those.
Would you prefer them “slightly used”, too?
You buy a new pair of Hanes. You wear them. You run them through the laundry.
Guess what?
The next time you put them on, THEY are “slightly used” as well.
Well yes. You or I would put them through the laundry. But whether Walky does is an open question.
And honestly, how do you know the underwear factory workers aren’t secretly trying on the underwear and putting it back? You don’t.
Don’t tell Joyce. She’d have to throw all her underwear away and buy new ones. And then she’d realize that the same thing could be true of them and …
… craft underwear from a milk jug?
Try to craft underwear from a milk jug, fail and be completely owned by Carla making them for her.
Also, I choose to take “Don’t show anyone your underwear” as tactic advice. It lets the enemy know what kind you wear, which in turn opens you to underwear-based subterfuge.
You mean that Lucy could get Sensitive Scanner underwear?
Lucy, honey, you can…
Lucy? LUCY?! Hello, Bagge to planet Lucy – are you listening to me?
Lucy?! I’m trying to tell you that you can do better. No, bad Lucy. Someone get the spray bottle. LUUUUUUCY!?
You got some splainin to do!
I wouldn’t even say better, just…different? They don’t seem fairly compatible
Honestly, to me he seems the same as he’s always been.
Lucy has read the Slipshine chapters and knows what’s up
Or more accurately, she knows what she’d like to be up.

I can Honestly say that Walky is my fav character in this Chapter, sure he can be annoying, but he is being the Goofy guy we need after the hard time. (Becky is still my fav overall, but for now, walky has my attention)
Same, Walky’s been one of my faves throughout. His humor as self-defense and procrastination problems are painfully relatable
I wish you had tagged Mr. Bellybutton
You know what, Lucy? Get that D. Take what you want, and then dump his ass. It doesn’t have to be some big thing
it is pretty cold out after all“Do what you need to with him, then dump ‘im fast”, to paraphrase ol’ Stormin’ Norman.
I love these kids
Why is everyone like “Lucy can do better” when Wally is a friendly, positive, clever, attractive guy from a rich family? His big flaw is what, that occasionally he’s silly or inappropriate?
My main concern is that she’s pining over a guy who’s clearly not that into her.
On the other hand he’s getting used to the attention and clearly enjoys it.
Yeah… I’m not sure that’s better
Lucy can do better because Walky has been oblivious to her feelings thus far. He’s been shown to have good emotional intelligence, so it’s not beyond his capacity to realize he’s stringing her along
No one was holding Walky’s family against him but I’m amazed that you think they’re a bonus.
Especially since Linda would despise Lucy. Because
racismreasons. On the other hand, she’s eager to please.
Lucy is clearly a hoodlum
He doesn’t wash his clothes, and smells of unwashed laundry.
Walky is also either lazy, or suffering from ADD (or possibly both), has a limited set of interests (Dexter and Monkey Master and, what?) and has questionable personal grooming. (Remember when he mentioned not washing particularly well.)
Poor Lucy, don’t base your crushes off of who you think will like you back, simply because your roommate made an offhanded comment once
(it certainly didn’t work well for me and it took years to shake this habit)
One of the best thing that happened to me was the realization that I didn´t fall in love with people. I fell in love with the idea of being in love with people.
Not saying that´s what happened to you, but it reminded me of it.
Lucy.
Don’t burn up dear.
Speaking of twins, has it ever been established which twin is the “older” one, in either universe? Walky certainly acts younger, but that’s probably just due to personality/circumstantial reasons.
Pretty sure that being twins normally implies no significant difference in age.
Unless one one was born on Feb 29 and the other not.
I don’t know any twins in RL, but at least in fiction, sometimes a big deal is made of those few minutes in birth order.
It’s a traditional comedy trope for twins to argue about who is ‘older’, sometimes defined by a scale of minutes.
I have cousins who are a pair of identical twins, and the birth order made a huge difference to them. Their parents decided early that the elder one was cleverer and pretty much framed everything so that the younger was always in his brother’s shadow. Even sent them to different medical schools. The elder twin ended up working in and then taking over their father’s practice, inherited all the social contacts… And the younger moved to Canada.
your cousins’ parents sound like they walked right out of this comic
I’m sure that they meant to be kind, but parenting wasn’t their strong suit. And parents can do a lot of damage in a subtle way with things that they don’t even realise they are doing. Besides, the twins are fifteen years older than I, so I can’t really say who did what. But birth order clearly mattered more than a forty-minute difference of age.
I’m sure we in Canada were happy to receive them.
Keep it in your pants, Walky.
** Lucy disapproves of this message **
I do wonder if Walky is really that oblivious or if he’s deliberately trying to give Lucy a foaming-at-the-mouth breakdown!
It’s Walky – if “oblivious” is one of the options on the table, it’s the correct one.
Poor Lucy. Her brain is about to come frothing out her ears.
I’m surprised Lucy isn’t blushing more in the last panel.
Her brain has probably gone bye-bye for a minute or so. She’ll blush when she realises just what happened!
With the eyes placement and how much he pulls his underwear, Walky definitely flashed Lucy there.
I have to agree. So, the question to ask is: Deliberate or just unthinking?
I don’t think Walky thinks his junk trumps his Monkey Master underoos.
I think Walky is pulling out his underwear to show her more of it.
LUCY is looking over at his junk.
He wants her to look at the wrapping paper, but she’s noticed the Nintendo 64 inside.
… wasn’t that the one with hefty central handle mounting the 360 rocker between two legs?

I’ve got a horrible feeling that “She’s just a good friend” will become the phrase that is the bane of Lucy’s existence for the rest of the semester.
I have a feeling it will become the title phrase of a dozen of her fanfics. …. erm, I mean, LITERATURE.
Everyone is getting on Walkys case for his innocent joking around ,demanding that anyone behaves like a full grown no fun adult adult all the time, yet they dont aknowledge the fact that walky is cleary anti-sexist here and for equal treatment and dont praise him for it.
Let me praise you for not murdering anyone today.
Thanks! <3
Advice for Lucy: look straight ahead.
Too late. The liquid Carmel triangle has sucked her in.
Note to Booster: Lucy doesn’t want to do much better. Lucy wants to do much Walky.
So Walky really is that clueless. I can’t say I’m surprised, I’m not an exception, but out and out showing your boxers to a girl seems a bit too far even for a clueless guy.
What’s the sense in have Monkey Master underwear if you can’t show anyone?
having
I think that one was me and not automangle.
And Lucy gets a sneak peak at what she will get, with a relationship with Walky.
I really love the Walkertons twins ♡!
Looks like Walky broke Lucy.
Walky penis 2 electric boogaloo
I’m older than Willis. (Age-wise I guess I’m at the 90th percentile here.)
So: When did the freshman ten become the freshman fifteen?
As far back as I can remember, unless my memories have been altered by seeing more recent references.
“fifteen” is better alliteration.
Despite my handle, I’m 30 and it was Freshman 15 in 2008 when I started uni.
Walky is just showing his stomach, it’s just his boxers are in view and that is CLEARLY what Lucy was looking at.
Well, she started looking at his caramel abs, but …
Oh Lucy. I feel your pain.
And Lucy’s thirst levels grew three sizes that day.
