Nah – that’s just baseline interaction-with-other-humans for Sarah. Expressing friendship consists of snarky disapproval of someone’s life choices, followed by participation in said activities, accompanied by a steady stream of grumbled complaints over being “forced” to engage in whatever is going on.
plus lucy is emotionally/socially aware enough to prolly know that sarah has a crush, if not lucy subconsciously remember when joyce yelled something liek “you stay away from ajacob” forever ago (tho proly more recent to them than us”
i mean, unless walky and dorothy make out in front of everyone, i’m sure they’ll get used to being in the room together if a bit awkward lol, unless the drunkeness makes things messier
or dorothy turning it down to not wanna get drunk like twicei n a row lol
I’m surprised she’d even add anyone unless she ‘had to’ for group projects or so and sort them by classmates like “annoying math class neighbor” and “annoying short girl”/ more specifics considering how sarah finds everyone annoying lol
You know, I know the consensus is that Lucy and Sarah will be rivals for Jacob, and that’s fully possible, but it also could be that Lucy ends up as something of a test for Sarah’s new attempted approach.
Thing is, they’ve been civil pre-Walky relationship, like I do think Sarah at least can appreciate dealing with someone who takes academics seriously, sort of how she likes Dorothy, but obviously, the Walky stuff put a strain on things, as does Lucy’s naivete. But, Lucy IS showing some more cynicism now, so maybe they’ll meet more in the middle? We’ll see.
Also, Walky and Lucy in the same place will definitely be interesting and a test of what, exactly, Walky and Dorothy are now.
Drama and chaos are common in this comic, but let’s hope that Walky and Lucy are on good terms, I mean, Dorothy finally got rid of a big problem so that now there is more conflict…no thanks
True, Lucy supposedly knows how to go to class and to study for tests. That would endear her to Sarah. In theory. And Jacob. If anyone else in the cast loves to check stupid boxes to achieve the imagined approval of relatives like Lucy, it’s Jacob.
Yeah I know everyone is hoping Lucy means drama, but I’m really hoping Lucy turns up and is like “HAH! I knew we were friends.” to Sarah because she was the one who invited Lucy to the party.
Or that Lucy at least realizes that, while cruel, Sarah wasn’t wrong about how fast the rest of the friendgroup dropped her when she and Walky split up.
Have they dropped her? It’s been what, two or three days since Walky and Lucy broke up, the group doesn’t have to see eachother every day, especially since Lucy lives in a seperate dorm from everyone else.
Also did Walky actually tell anyone aside from Dorothy that he and Lucy have broken up? That could be why nobodies reached out to her in that case.
They broke up Sunday – after church. It’s now Tuesday.
Lucy walked to class with the group yesterday.
It’s really hard to say she’s been dropped at this point.
“That annoying kid who rooms with me”
“That annoying kid who wants to be President”
“That annoying kid who’s a superhero”
“That annoying kid who’s a lesbian”
“That annoying kid who’s the lesbian’s girlfriend”
“That annoying kid who still watches cartoons”
“That annoying kid who’s my sister”
“That annoying kid who smokes”
“That REALLY annoying kid with the hat”
It’ll be a huge list of:
That annoying kid who…
That annoying kid who…
That annoying kid who…
Dina
That annoying kid who’s going to break Dina’s heart
That annoying kid who…
That annoying kid who…
I don’t know how much of Sarah picking Lucy is because of how few people she actually talks to, or an effort be friendlier and make up for burning her too hard. But I am hoping it’s for the Walky-Dorothy-Lucy drama that’s been predicted.
I know that I will sound too optimistic, but I hope that this conflict is resolved right there, besides, Dorothy went through a bitter moment, give her a break.
unless Lucy’s still at the mystery restaurant she went to for lunch Monday. Pluto something-something. Or a strip club. OR a strip club with a Pluto space colony theme.
i can also lucy being chill more or less about the alcohol aspect, or at least , she wouldn’t narc even if she wouldn’t wanna participate in the ‘usual college antics’ or consider it like a ‘rite of passage’ like some other adolescents do
Alternate script: Lucy was brought up to use alcohol in moderation. This stuff is stronger than she’s used to, but she’s pacing herself and doing well. Walky is hanging around somewhere. Dorothy appears, grabs Walky in a big smooch. Lucy’s eyes grow as large as a tarsier’s. Walky senses trouble with him at the center, and begins looking frantically for the escape pod.
She roomed with Billie back while she was still drinking, so we know she’s had some exposure.
Has college really changed so much from my day that another student narcing on a relatively mild party is even something anyone would worry about?
If it’s trashing the whole floor or something, sure. Or if you’re dealing with a Mary who’s always looking for blackmail material. But a regular college kid you’re thinking of inviting?
It was on panel and everything, right where we could see it. Not all breakups are pretty and tidy, and not all of them even involve the words “I’m breaking up with you” or “We’re through”. It’s just not necessary, even from a narrative standpoint.
well given that they had an ‘honest’ convo earlier, even if he does ‘click’ with lucy i imagine he’s not gonna make amove/ask her out then and there a t teh end of the party lol
If nobody gets completely Snicker-faced and calls someone else a cockfucker, this will have been the worst arc in the entire comic. I might have to unleash nuclear war on the entire Midwest, using my nuclear weapons that I definitely have.
Man Sarah really is opening up more these days if she’s admitting Taylor Swift lyrics make her feel something. That’s actually embarrassing Sarah. I’m kind of impressed even if I’m mostly baffled at how the McDonald’s of music did that for you.
Admitting? It’s snark. “I’m, like, totally a normal person who, like, has feelings about… Taylor Swift lyrics or whatever it is that normal people have feelings about!”
Now see, I could actually see Sarah and Lucy becoming friends now. Like, if Lucy got upset at this party, I could fully see Sarah slapping Wally in the face on her behalf because Sarah’s a woman of action.
clearly the answer is to text all the That Annoying Kids, fix the name of whoever shows up, and delete whoever doesn’t because fuck em if they can’t be bothered to show up for your party
Have to whittle it down by area code, if she knows where Lucy is from. Do we know where Lucy is from? Is she from Indiana even? Are any of the American characters from any other state?
I’m not counting “at a boarding school in another state from parents’ home address” as from another state. She’d get in-state tuition I expect.
Real life IU Bloomington has an in-state rate of 54%, 41% other states, 5% international.
I did start with area codes, didn’t I. So Sal probably would count as from another state. Ruth was 16 when she moved from Canada to the US, so maybe a Canadian number maybe a US one.

It's not a new argument, of course, but Chesterton dismissed it effectively in 1908.
"You will hear everlastingly... this argument that the rich man cannot be bribed. The fact is, of course, that the rich man is bribed; he has been bribed already. That is why he is a rich man."

wilbur, savvy enough to know he's in a comic strip but still not a great actor, awkwardly lifts a muffin up into frame so that we, the audience, understand that he has a muffin right now, which is very important narratively, but he's not really selling it well as an organic, human action
confirming that the reason there's been no Galaxy Version female characters in Blokees until now is that they felt they needed to make Round Lady Thighs For Ladies
I’m dead XD
If they don’t get some reinforcements, they could be too!
I hear sirens: The Perfect Storm is coming.
Ah, yes, Lucy, noted close friend of Sarah.
Remember that Sarah thinks being mean to others is how you show friendship.
Just like throwing toys at girls is how boys show they’re interested.
At least for Walky it is
Nah – that’s just baseline interaction-with-other-humans for Sarah. Expressing friendship consists of snarky disapproval of someone’s life choices, followed by participation in said activities, accompanied by a steady stream of grumbled complaints over being “forced” to engage in whatever is going on.
Oh my. Disaster averted probably: Lucy and Walky and Dorothy… drunk…
All following the dress code from yesterday?
I feel like that either ends in bloodshed, or Lucy having to rethink her description of Joyce.
I don’t think Dorothy’s invited. Not yet at least, maybe Becky would change her mind
Welcome home, server clock!
and now the cycle can begin anew
I have been checking at 12:17, do you mean I can check at midnight again?!?!
Thanks, WordPress, for allowing lazy people like me to post before everybody.
Poor Sarah, not realizing she’s gonna put Lucy and Jacob in the same room together.
Oh no. I had not considered that.
Jacob can provide princess-carry services when Sarah breaks Lucy’s toe
Also Radiah could show up I remember Lucy trying to get in with her group. So that’s a thing that could happen
We’re talking about Raidah, but Lucy’s chance of joining that questionable group…is very likely.
I’m unsure which is worse: Raidah showing up or Mary showing up.
Porquoi pas tous les deus?
Oh gods below, that would be terrible!
*gets out the popcorn and soda
well, depends on if they’d still click on a romantic level but i think they could use some platonic friends lol
plus lucy is emotionally/socially aware enough to prolly know that sarah has a crush, if not lucy subconsciously remember when joyce yelled something liek “you stay away from ajacob” forever ago (tho proly more recent to them than us”
Oh no! If Lucy comes there will be drama.
Oh god it was posted early
hallelujah!
earlyon timeAll hail the prodigal son server clock, for it has rejoined us!
So Joyce is going to invite Dorothy, who’s going to bring Walky now that they’re back together.
Sarah is going to invite his ex, Lucy. Who just dumped him.
I see no possible way this can go wrong
And then Sarah invites her crush, who is also interested in Lucy.
i mean, unless walky and dorothy make out in front of everyone, i’m sure they’ll get used to being in the room together if a bit awkward lol, unless the drunkeness makes things messier
or dorothy turning it down to not wanna get drunk like twicei n a row lol
So who do you think the most surprising “That Annoying Kid” is?
I vote Galasso.
One of them is her childhood home: Sarah herself is a That Annoying Kid. (Hey, you said surprising!)
Her sister
Oh *no*
Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
That reference goes above and Beyond.
Shway reference.
I’m surprised she’d even add anyone unless she ‘had to’ for group projects or so and sort them by classmates like “annoying math class neighbor” and “annoying short girl”/ more specifics considering how sarah finds everyone annoying lol
I’d be surprised if Joyce wasn’t part of the ~30. And Chan, Char or Carl can’t be invited.
No, anything involving kissing is not an ideal party activity
tbf i’m pretty sure sarah and joyc ehave texted before so she’d just need to go through her scroll history
Joyce is someone she loves and considers a little sister – I’d be very surprised if she still rated “random person I find annoying”.
“That kid I pretend to find annoying in order to keep up my misanthropic façade”.
Horray!!!!!!! This is going to be a disaster!
You know, I know the consensus is that Lucy and Sarah will be rivals for Jacob, and that’s fully possible, but it also could be that Lucy ends up as something of a test for Sarah’s new attempted approach.

Lucy walked to class with the group yesterday.
It’s really hard to say she’s been dropped at this point.
Meh, I wasn’t trying to be dramatic about it, just hopeful that Sarah and Lucy can become friends off this.
Look, this whole emotionally available schtick is a work in progress, okay? XD
“That annoying kid who rooms with me”
“That annoying kid who wants to be President”
“That annoying kid who’s a superhero”
“That annoying kid who’s a lesbian”
“That annoying kid who’s the lesbian’s girlfriend”
“That annoying kid who still watches cartoons”
“That annoying kid who’s my sister”
“That annoying kid who smokes”
“That REALLY annoying kid with the hat”
lol perfect. I know who all of those people are.
Now I want to see the DoA cast page, from Sarah’s viewpoint. All the main characters are variants on “That annoying kid who…”
Nah, Sarah’s down with Dina.
It’ll be a huge list of:
That annoying kid who…
That annoying kid who…
That annoying kid who…
Dina
That annoying kid who’s going to break Dina’s heart
That annoying kid who…
That annoying kid who…

unless Lucy’s still at the mystery restaurant she went to for lunch Monday. Pluto something-something. Or a strip club. OR a strip club with a Pluto space colony theme.
Oof that sounds drear. I mean a Pluto colony. Not a Lucy at a strip club thing.
i can also lucy being chill more or less about the alcohol aspect, or at least , she wouldn’t narc even if she wouldn’t wanna participate in the ‘usual college antics’ or consider it like a ‘rite of passage’ like some other adolescents do
Drunk Lucy would be interesting.
Someone hands her a cup, she takes a big gulp without thinking, fire shoots out of her ears, she gasps “wait, what IS this stuff???”.
Just as her tongue is loosening up, Dorothy arrives with Walky on her arm.
Interesting times indeed.
No, it hasn’t changed, the people in these comments are just high-strung about some pretty average college experiences.
That’s what I was leaning towards, but it was a long time ago.
“Do they even college?”
Sure but i doubt billie ever offered her one of her flasks lol but if anything i’d think she’d be more putoff by alcohol or just not particpate or so
The drama that was foretold.
Prediction:
Lucy shows up, talks to Sarah, and Sarah points out that Walky slept with Dorothy.
Lucy thinks Sarah is HORRIBLE.
Lucy not being aware that Walky and she broke up and thinks that Sarah was tormenting her.
does sarah even know? altho other than to spite lucy you’d think sarah would want /less/ drama versus just grabbing a bucket pof popocorn to enjoy
Lucy absolutely knows that she and Walky are broken up. She is the one who broke up with him.
It will still probably sting.
Oh for sure it’ll sting. Nobody likes having it confirmed that they were a placeholder for the person their partner actually wanted to date.
So people keep claiming.
It was on panel and everything, right where we could see it. Not all breakups are pretty and tidy, and not all of them even involve the words “I’m breaking up with you” or “We’re through”. It’s just not necessary, even from a narrative standpoint.
It was kind of possible at first. If the next time she’d seen Walky, she’d been like “We need to talk” it wouldn’t have been a huge surprise.
But she didn’t and it’s a lot less likely now.
Exactly this.
well, lucy does have a fb but i imagine it’d be easier to just walk to lucy’s dorm room lol
There’s another ~48 “The Annoying Adult”s
I have no doubt Sarah could invite others but people would expect her to choose not too out of principal and spite.
So she’s going to Jacob because she likes him, and Lucy to cover her real intentions? Yeah that’s going to go swimmingly.
well given that they had an ‘honest’ convo earlier, even if he does ‘click’ with lucy i imagine he’s not gonna make amove/ask her out then and there a t teh end of the party lol
If nobody gets completely Snicker-faced and calls someone else a cockfucker, this will have been the worst arc in the entire comic. I might have to unleash nuclear war on the entire Midwest, using my nuclear weapons that I definitely have.
If someone does use such an insult, I hope it’s targeted at Becky, just so she can be dumbfounded about how blatantly inaccurate it is.
i don’t know if the alcohol is /that/ strong, but it would be interesting to see varying levels of drunkenness.
Maybe /Asher/ will meet Amber/be there too XD
Man Sarah really is opening up more these days if she’s admitting Taylor Swift lyrics make her feel something. That’s actually embarrassing Sarah. I’m kind of impressed even if I’m mostly baffled at how the McDonald’s of music did that for you.
Of course, in a few decades of comic book time that will be like referencing the Beatles…
Admitting? It’s snark. “I’m, like, totally a normal person who, like, has feelings about… Taylor Swift lyrics or whatever it is that normal people have feelings about!”
Yeah, that’s a pretty common conversational bit. “Yep I’m normal, here is an example of a thing I think is normal that I totally also do”.
Like a normal human person, I’m typing this comment with my human fingers.
Becky casually throwing her jacket on the pile of lesbos.
The Walkertons get drunk on thimbles.
It’s gonna be a mess no matter what.
That might be all everyone gets if they keep inviting more and more people.
At some point the new invitees start bringing bottles too.
Final panel Becky:
“Lucy?
Damn!
Lucy?
Damn!
Lucy?…”
…And then Becky gets a text alert. “Hey!”
“Fine, I’m changing the name to ‘That annoying kid who lezzes the most”.
“Oh, well, that’s all right then.”
Either you get early updates on Patreon, or you predicted it all by yourself.
They should find out what kind of alcohol it is and make a punch.
How about just a container of tang and dump it into the bottle?
That wouldn’t dilute the alcohol or make more for everyone to drink.
punching may be involved
Sarah no
Now see, I could actually see Sarah and Lucy becoming friends now. Like, if Lucy got upset at this party, I could fully see Sarah slapping Wally in the face on her behalf because Sarah’s a woman of action.
Why does Walky deserve to be hit exactly?
He got broken up with. How dare he.
Very rude of him, honestly. He should know better.
he introduced Jason to Ruth.
So… you’re in favor of unprovoked physical assault on people who’ve done nothing wrong…? Is there context I’m missing?
“Sarah’s feiends” is almost entirely a subset of “Becky’s friends”, right?
A common introvert dilemma: take the health risk of drunkenness or take the scary risk of social interaction. :O
Admittedly the first kinda dulls down fear of the latter
She is clearly not an Android user, because her phone would have been constantly offering to merge them for her.
that last panel. Becky, you’re loving this, ain’t you?
A party with -all- the annoying kids? I’m there!
So Joyce will invite Dorothy, who’ll bring her boyfriend Walky.
And Sarah will invite Lucy, who’ll bring her boyfriend Walky.
clearly the answer is to text all the That Annoying Kids, fix the name of whoever shows up, and delete whoever doesn’t because fuck em if they can’t be bothered to show up for your party
Have to whittle it down by area code, if she knows where Lucy is from. Do we know where Lucy is from? Is she from Indiana even? Are any of the American characters from any other state?
Does Sal count as being from another state?
I’m not counting “at a boarding school in another state from parents’ home address” as from another state. She’d get in-state tuition I expect.
Real life IU Bloomington has an in-state rate of 54%, 41% other states, 5% international.
Do area codes even mean anything anymore?
I guess for kids, who probably haven’t had their phones long enough to have moved states.
I did start with area codes, didn’t I. So Sal probably would count as from another state. Ruth was 16 when she moved from Canada to the US, so maybe a Canadian number maybe a US one.
Sarah will see Jacob and Lucky’s friendship under another light and think that’s her karma for all the time she was horrible with Lucky.
btw
I love the title for this chapter and fear for its meaning down the road.
It’s an M. Bison quote, apparently.
No, I know. It’s my favorite scene.
