That wouldn’t work, unless we saw in the mirror behind the girls that they had a mirror in front of them. The fourth wall had to be the mirror. But then there’s the question of why she’s looking to the side, away from the theoretical mirror. Though I guess if this stuff was planned Willis wouldn’t need to make her look to the side.
Though, to be honest, people can see quite far back out of the corner of their eyes, so it’s not completely unbelievable. Thing is, it’s not far enough. To see almost directly behind you, you need to rotate your head a little bit while also looking out of the corner of your eyes. Try it yourself. You hardly even need to turn your head 45 degrees; it’s surprising how much you can see.
i imagine the same way that amber saw danny despite the fact that she was facing the opposite direction and she only looked slightly up and to the right… magic
Do you think we can peel back the veil of static and reach into the source of all being, behind these pert patterns; this random pattern generator? So clever, here in every home, watching US from a one-sided mirror.
The sky will turn red and the king will awaken. As the two lovers awaken from their long slumber they will call forth creatures from the world impossible to describe. The old and forgotten river will soon flow again so the hounds like creatures, the pets of the wise men of Ilimur can drink after their feast.
Also, can somebody give me a fitting Disney movie quote? I’ve got one for Roomies and one for Shortpacked, but I can’t think of one for this, and I’d like to complete the trifecta.
Sigh, I know David probably already knows this, but this comic is a failure from a layout perspective. Unless Amber and Dina are BOTH reptiles, their eyes should not be able to see directly backwards. And you know he’s directly behind them because of the shot, and yet both are able to see his presence at the same time. The goal was to keep everything as stationary as possible and aimed right at their faces, I get that, it lends to the theme. And I realize that it’s difficult to show someone’s face straight on and still see what they’re looking at. But there are ways. Having him pass directly behind them, and at a distance no less, is not a good one. There are limits to peripheral vision. You could try changing the camera angle, but an even better way is by having Danny pass in front of them. Or walk past them towards us on the left side, and have the added effect of Amber glancing at his rear. That way, it makes sense that she’d be able to see him, and Dina can demonstrate good peripheral vision, seeing all this without moving her eyes, without having superpowers.
I found it distracting. The whole time I kept thinking, “Neither one of them can see Danny from there!”, which got in the way of the punchline for me. Willis is generally tighter with his staging.
That or she’s hacked into the school security system and was cyberstalking him – I mean, looking out for trouble that might require the aid of a superhero.
They’re facing something reflective. When Amber saw Danny’s reflection, she instinctively started to look around to see him directly before she stopped herself.
And Dina’s hat told her what is happening. It’s going to kill everyone you know. It’s only a matter of time.
Your Friday comic broke and doesn’t forward to this one (I keep the tabs open and just refresh them to move forward). I figured you might want to fix that before it breaks the archive for new readers or something.
“I just noticed the eyes in the back of your head is all.”
“Well, everyone’s noticed, but we didn’t want to point it out.”
“With the ones on the side of mine.”
Y’know Willis, you could have made that scene work if you’d put a mirror on the wall behind the girls.

Wow, she has awesome peripheral vision. That’d be handy for an Amazi-Girl sidekick.
“Good job Dino Lass! You’re training is coming along fine!”
Dino Lass!
Power: Ability to resist hypnotism, appears somewhere undetected and almost invisible to everyone.
Weakness: Everything related to Dinosaurs.
Weakness: Meteorites, Sudden drastic climate changes, a higher evolved Dina striking her down.
Also bombs.
*Waits to be struck down for this comment*
And Cybermen ships.
And decapitation.
And reapers.
@Regalli, you rock.
Also, now matter how hard she tries, she can’t kill Jeff Goldblum.
I think that’s why they’re here together, it’s a test to see if she’ll make the grade, after all clearly Amber is Amazi-girl!
How did Dina see Amber look at him when her own eyes never turned in her direction?
i imagine the same way that amber saw danny despite the fact that she was facing the opposite direction and she only looked slightly up and to the right… magic
Magic… what cant it explain?
Wizard did it!
or a mirror.
Or Window, or turned-off television screen.
Amber clearly saw Danny because she’s Amazi-girl and Dina is clearly the best candidate so far for being her new sidekick!
MAGIC!
The fourth wall could be mildly if not completely reflective.
How did Dina see HIM while looking forward?
The truth is indisputable –
Underneath Dina’s hat is Lord Voldemort.
Nah, she one of the Old Ones.
That’s not a hat.
Dina knows all.
Dina owns a magic 8-Ball.
Unlike Dana, who’s 8-ball isn’t so magic, although she would argue otherwise.
Well She couldn’t see Amber at all until her eye moved. Her vision is based on movement.
just like her favourite extinct creature.
What does this have to do with the Dodo? ohhhhhhh
Dodo? I thought we’re talking about Ska fans!
Probably explains why she looks you in the mouth while you speak. That or she’s checking to see if you aren’t really a mascot.
She’s very observant
Dina is psychic!
Also, I really hope there’s a TV or something in front of them, and she’s not just staring through the fourth wall at us.
We’re looking at the hidden camera feed. The camera is behind a TV, yes.
I could have sworn that said “Dina is perfect!”
Which I would have agreed to.
If Dina is Psychic, does that mean that she can defeat Amazi-Girl since she is a Fighting type?
I would say yes. Dina has a sub-set of Dark, I would think.
Well she’s already got Glare.
And now, evidently Miracle Eye.
I think I have to make a few pokemon movescreens for them.
Dina also has the ability Oblivious.
Hot Dina/Wailord Action.
Do you think we can peel back the veil of static and reach into the source of all being, behind these pert patterns; this random pattern generator? So clever, here in every home, watching US from a one-sided mirror.
Darn, now I have to put some clothes on.
Not me, as long I don’t know for certain that some one is looking I have no shame!
Rofl, way to creep out Amber Dina, and me for that matter.
Maybe Dina was looking into a mirror?
Or she sees outside the fourth wall, in which case we are all doomed. HAIL TO OUR DINOSAUR QUEEN!
I wouldn’t say we are doomed, rather that we are saved!!! HAIL TO OUR DINOSAUR QUEEN!!
But I vote for Billy!
?
What is that rustling sound?
What you don’t realize is Dina’s Hat is actually sentient and relays information to Dina when it sees fit.
Like the scarab in Blue Beetle?
‘Cause that’d be awesome.
So she has to constantly struggle to remain in control and keep her Hat from killing everyone, just like the Blue Beetle?
…that would explain some things…
YES.
Ah, so I’m not the only one to think so!
Clever girl…..
His badass persona went out the window when he screamed.
Look, his body is being divided by raptors for further consumption. Of course he will scream.
bah. I expected a few gunshots! A grenade pin being pulled! A “see you in hell” line. Anything!
Dina’s stare will haunt my nightmares.
I am half-convinced that her “hat” is actually a sentient being.
I suspect a Metroid myself.
http://fashionablygeek.com/hats/minimalist-metroid-beanie-hats/
SplitReason doesn’t sell them anymore, but I got one last year and it’s great.
Sentient hats? Like that Darkwing Duck episode?
Meet the Robinsons? Even ties into the Dino thing.
Fixed that last panel…
Soon the Old Ones will awaken…
The sky will turn red and the king will awaken. As the two lovers awaken from their long slumber they will call forth creatures from the world impossible to describe. The old and forgotten river will soon flow again so the hounds like creatures, the pets of the wise men of Ilimur can drink after their feast.
Only the Cheese can help us now…
Also, can somebody give me a fitting Disney movie quote? I’ve got one for Roomies and one for Shortpacked, but I can’t think of one for this, and I’d like to complete the trifecta.
Dina: I wanna be OUT THERE!
So, what’s that from?
it’s a corruption of little mermaid.
I see, I see.
Don’t let him fool you, he’s just quoting South Park.
Zip pe de do da zip ditty day!
“Who is that girl I see, Staring right, back at me?”
(When will my reflection show, who I am inside?)
I think that vending machine has Coke Zero. Fuck yes.
Coke Zero is awesome, but if it has Cherry Coke Zero, I’d be in heaven!
Sigh, I know David probably already knows this, but this comic is a failure from a layout perspective. BRO!!!!!! Decaf!
Think of this like they’re, in theater terms, “cheating out” – their position may not literally work, but what it represents is perfectly apparent.
I found it distracting. The whole time I kept thinking, “Neither one of them can see Danny from there!”, which got in the way of the punchline for me. Willis is generally tighter with his staging.
ambers reading the comic on her ds and was checking her periphery to confirm his position
That or she’s hacked into the school security system and was cyberstalking him – I mean, looking out for trouble that might require the aid of a superhero.
I agree with this sentiment. Reflection in the DS could have shown her Danny walking past.
They’re facing something reflective. When Amber saw Danny’s reflection, she instinctively started to look around to see him directly before she stopped herself.
And Dina’s hat told her what is happening. It’s going to kill everyone you know. It’s only a matter of time.
If Danny walked in front of Amber, he would see Amber, and he’d be a dick for not stopping to say hello.
Dina has eerily sharp peripheral vision.
Because she is part dinosaur.
Clever girl.
Crap, somebody said that already, of course.
Its ok…I’ll share that with you. Its about the only line I remember from those movies other than “life always finds a way”
in the words of a certain ninja yordle, the eyes never lie.
You sneaky Kennen, you. (Well, bound to be sneaky. Ninja.)
Well, since discretion didn’t work you might as well stand up, turn around and scream “Hey Handsome!”
Also, I find it funny that, up until this strip, Dina acted almost exactly like me.
So, stand behind a lot of doors, do you?
…Yes. Yes, I did.
In fact, I’m behind your door right now!
Amazi-Girl trained to be the best at everything. Including the ability to recognize people from only the slightest amount of peripheral vision.
Amazi-girl’s training isn’t done yet, I’d say, and there’s clearly a lot that Dina could teach her in that department.
The one facial cue she picks up on is whichever one you don’t want her to notice.
