Though to counter that, my favourite argument is that Luthor willfully rejects evidence that Clark is Superman, because he can’t conceive of why a demigod like Superman would want to pretend to be a mere mortal.

There’s a reason facial recognition software is a thing. Given very high quality video or pics, a body double won’t fool a decent facial recognition scan (though there are false positives, but Metallo would still narrow it down to two or three faces – Clark among them – he can check for himself)
I remember an old Batman comic from the 70’s where the Joker knew there was this big party coming up where all of the rich men of Gotham would be, and that Batman would have to be among them. So he set Batman up to get hit in the face with this unremovable blue dye/paint before the party. Batman got out of it by convincing all of the other potential Batman candidates at the party to be sprayed with the same blue dye in order to preserve his identity.
Still, that was a pretty short list of possible Batman candidates.

Not that she seems upset by his complement… But I cannot help but be a bit worried that, even when they are alone, Amber seems to be putting up a boundary between herself (as Amber) and Danny, as if she is clinging to the fact, even when alone with someone who knows her secret, that “Amber” and “Amazi-Girl” are two separate identities, and Danny is not dating “Amber.”
I think that’s kind of exactly what’s happening actually.

Amber and Danny have been adorably flirty with each other these past couple strips, and I wish I could enjoy it without reservation, but Amber would have to attach a police siren to her head to be sending out more warning signals.
She might not feel ready to date as just “Amber”, but not being able to date as “Amber” at all is another thing, and not being able give Danny an articulate explanation about why is a third.

Well, to be fair, she’s got a very similar build and hair style to Amazi-girl, and Danny has put it out there with enough people that he’s dating Amazi-girl that if they started acting like they were dating when she was just Amber, I doubt very many people would have a hard time making the connection between the two. That does seem to be why she’s doing it; her reservations seem to have begun when they started acting like a couple in front of Joe, who knew Danny was dating Amazi-girl, and who also knows Danny well enough that he’d realize that Danny would be unlikely to cheat on his girlfriend. Assuming, you know, that h actually believed that Danny was dating Amazi-girl for realzies.
–I assume she’s keeping it up even now that they’re alone as it’s harder to slip up when you don’t drop the mask, so to speak, than if you try and assess, each time, whether or not it’s safe to do so.
So not necessarily so much a worrying behaviour, I think, as a reasonable precaution to avoid having her secret identity. Donning a pair of glasses and fooling everyone only works in the DC and Mystery Men universes.

My guess is it’s to keep her from getting in trouble. Vigilantism is illegal and most likely against school rules. (I don’t know you can ask Willis) so regardless if people like her and she’s mostly stopping graffiti or whatever she could still be punished. Also it’s clearly a needed outlet for repressed rage issues. Plus secret identities are cool

Exactly! If she was just nervous when they were with other people, I wouldn’t think twice. But this is just the two of them, alone. And she’s still basically saying, “Don’t do that with me, ’cause the one you’re dating is Amazi-girl!” Yes, she’s saying it in a cutely embarrassed way… but I don’t get the sense that she is at all jesting when she expresses those sentiments… and that worries me!

Well, she wants him to only act into Amazi-Girl when people are around, because if he acts like her boyfriend in both guises it could blow her cover.
Goodness knows the whole superhero persona thing isn’t healthy, especially how it combines with her rage issues and capacity for violence, but I think people are reading more of a “split” into it than is really supposed to be there.
But they are alone in a closed closed elevator and she’s still putting him off. That’s not about keeping her cover. Remember that she kept the rage and violence compartmentalized and separate from herself as Amber. After the situation with her dad and all that coming to a head, I thought she’d decided to integrate those parts of herself that she assigned the Amazi-girl persona with her self, but I think she may be having an issue doing that.

So, all of these good feels we’ve been getting these past two weeks, and now we know why. All the heartwarming warm fuzziness over Billie and Ruth, and angsting over when would the Willis taketh away, all of the rest (setting aside whatever Mary might be plotting, as well as Walky’s social cluelessness) but now the reason is clear.
Maggie’s been out of town these past two weeks.
All these years of cursing “Damn you Willis!”, but isolating specific factors in his environment reveals a more nuanced view as to why bad things happen to the fictional characters we care so much about.
This was all written and drawn months ago.

Danny is an asshole. Sometimes he rises above himself, as do we all. But, for the most part he’s clueless.
When he wanted Amber to leave the mask on when they got back together and slept together, she should have got a clue. It will never be “her” he wants.

When it comes to Danny there are a significant number of people who read a different comic than we do.
I don’t think he understands how separated Amber and Amazi-Girl are. He started out thinking they were two different people, but after her mask fell off, he started thinking they’re the same person just with two different names. Neither of those are quite true.
Danny: Tell me something: Why were you so sure those voices weren’t coming from you?
Amber: Well, first, I know I’m not psychotic.
Danny: I hope your other reason’s more convincing.
Amber: And second, the voice kept calling me Amber. In my mind, that’s not what I call myself.

Almost none of that is true, or his fault. First off, Amber was acting weird and clingy that day and on top of that pretended to be his girlfriend even after he’d already told her he had a girlfriend. And then she kept pushing until he said he had feelings for her. Realizing this he knew it’d be best for him to stop being friends with her because he was SO faithful to amazi-girl.
Also (SPOILER ALERT) Danny didn’t tell Amber to leave the mask on. Like…he NEVER said that. Like…Did you even read that porn? I get invested in the story elements of every porn I read.

Danny wanted to distance himself from Amber because he WAS attracted to her, her DID like her, and since she liked him back , that would be leading her on, or her leading him to cheat on Amazi-Girl.
Hes been loyal and supportive of Amber since he found out, even though she blew him off.
Danny does have lots of faults. Hes clingy, a bit self-absorbed, low self-esteem, poor ambition, stuck in his old habits and afraid to try new things. None of these make him a bad person. I think people hate on him becaus e they dont like having their faults reflected back on them
What he is missing ( until Amber/Ethan ) is people that believe in him, build him up, dont try to manipulate him , and push him to do new things.

There are no universal rules for poly; people have all kinds of poly relationships. As long as everyone was down for it, Ethan and Danny could be a couple and Danny and Amber could also be a couple; Amber and Ethan don’t have be romantically involved with each other.

Two weeks! Geeze! Man, I haven’t run into that yet. Sometimes she has to pull a night shift and I realize I’ve forgotten how to sleep alone. She doesn’t add any extra noise or anything, but somehow, when she’s gone, I HEAR ALL THE THINGS. The house makes so much noise when I’m trying to sleep and…no one else is there? It doesn’t make sense!
I dunno what the hell I’d do with two weeks. I never thought that a person next to me – not making any noise that I’m aware of – would help me sleep.
I second those feels of forgetting how to sleep alone. Whenever I have to go away (usually a week but a two-week trip has happened) it takes me twice as long to fall asleep because my human security blanket isn’t next to me. It’s funny how cool we are about sleeping in our own bed as kids, but once you start sharing a bed *boom* game over man!

Honestly, I’m surprised at how many people think Amber is the real persona and not Amazi-Girl. Amber is the false identity in my view and I think that’s healthy because Amazi-Girl has control over her life and identity. In time, hopefully, Amber will able to shed her Amber identity completely and move on.
Except Amber is a real human being, not made up superhuman bullshit.

No. That’s Amber. Amazi-Girl is the strong, controlled one. Amber is the one who stabs girls who are already in police custody.
No. That’s why Amazi-girl was created. Amber can’t let herself be a violent psycho like her dad, so she shoves all of the rage and violence on to Amazi-girl.
Amazi-Girl exists as a control on Amber’s rage and violence. Amazi-Girl has used violence, but only in a controlled and appropriate fashion. Even confronting Sal and her crew, she didn’t attack them, but waited for them to attack her, and lost her certainty of purpose when they didn’t (except goddammit Malaya). Every time she’s lashed out in violent rage, it’s been Amber, not Amazi-Girl.

Did anyone else try the finger mask thing? Because I did and for that to work, Danny has to have some freakily jointed digits. The only way I could get finger mask to work with those two fingers was to bend my middle fingers up over the index fingers so that they kind of look like crab claws. Thumbs and index fingers would definitely be easier.
Screw all y’all, everything about Danny/Amber is amazing and adorable and I’m not even gonna entertain any suggestions to the contrary.
