How does that even?
Dina wishes to learn more about this thing called physical intimacy without the inherent risks of man sex, and Billie seemed an obvious test subject. Billie was drunk.
The hate comes entirely from Billie, as she can’t handle the completely detached way Dina approached the subject. She doesn’t want to be just a test subject to Dina, but in her self loathing (brought upon by Ruth breaking up with her after learning about the first encounter) she convinces herself that she doesn’t deserve any better.
Eventually Dina optimizes the procedure by use of tools and casts Billie aside as surplus to requirements. Her doctoral thesis on the subject enjoys widespread circulation among the academic community and lonely freshmen.
That’s pretty convoluted and fucked up.
Sounds about right though.
Though I don’t think Dina would want to avoid Xemnas, she seems to find new things very exhilarating even when they’re scary.
Although she may be steered otherwise because the social consciousness generally sees male sexuality as aggressive, which could be overbearing to someone inexperienced.
I think she’d consider intercourse with a woman first as means to understand her own sexual body and desires more.

Well things are picking up for Sal, while shes kinda missin one of her friends, her grades are up, and she found a new friend (now with benefits!) in… Blonde British Tutor Guy.
I think this interaction reflects the same Scrubs moment except after Janitor gets with Lady and sees JD as less urksome.
Plus honestly Sal has a misanthropic tendencies and prefers to keep a close circle of friends, as few understand her, while Sarah, is more misanthropic as she casually hates on her (best?) friend Joyce

The victory is already Sal’s. Her way of dealing with life’s b.s. is FAR more effective with getting anywhere in the adult world. Hell, it’s a feat for Sarah to at least be sitting it out rather than running after Jacob just because he’s with Raidah now. I’m guessing either her Pre-Law classes haven’t gotten past merits you can achieve by hitting the books alone, or I’ve LOVE to see how she’s getting by in those classes…

Checking the tags, the only time the two have really interacted is the morning after the party, when Sal discouraged going to the police at all. Sarah has expressed a dislike of Sal before, so I’m not surprised their first conversation has them clash with each other.

I kind of agree. She could at least be civil to the people she doesn’t like. And stop acting like she knows what’s best for Joyce.
Hopefully we’ll start to see some turn-around soon. Her misanthropy, even though it’s justified in some cases, limits her use as a character since having her interact with other characters will inevitably result in her getting annoyed with them.

Sal appears to know Joyce about as well as she knows anybody else. Considering how much Joyce has inserted herself into Sal’s life, Sal probably knows more about her than she does of almost any other classmate.

Well she got really drunk late Friday night. And it’s now Saturday night sometime after 9:00 pm. It’s probably safe to assume that she’s sobered up from that by now.
Yeah, this isn’t even the same day. She may be a lightweight, but she’s had plenty of time to recover.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. Sarah is just a bit too insightful (but with a misanthropic POV) to bluff.
Add some unfair Sal-shaming for not catering to Joyce’s wishes. Yes, she has some weird hero-worship thing going with Sal. Yes, that probably galls Sarah, who doesn’t like Sal much and is arguably more of a real hero for Joyce than anyone courtesy of the Ryan beatdown. But Sal never asked for any of it, and made her disinterest in Joyce’s friendship pretty clear from day one. Trying to dump that bit of drama on Sal is just unfair, and it’s no wonder she doesn’t like it much.
Really, I though the fact that Sal needed to remove her toothbrush from the bathroom and that she wasn’t planning on attending the party until she received a text from a ‘friend’ that Sarah inferred that Sal had hookup plans that were taking precedent over the, “Make Joyce feel safe about living on campus and interacting with people” party.
I think Sarah is either mad that Sal is participating in something selfish (In Sarah’s opinion not mine) rather than spending sometime doing something that would be so important to Joyce or just out of a general dislike for teenage dating/drama nonsense or possibly both.
I think Sarah assume Sal isn’t actually waiting for a text and just making stuff up.

Sarah, I don’t mean to be rude, but when so many people consider interacting less with you it’s time to consider a change in attitude.
But Sarah likes not interacting with people.

That is what every extrovert says about introverts.
“Oh they so totally want to be in a room full of strangers, they are just being a sourpuss because it wasn’t their idea.”
But Sarah seems honestly unhappy about being left alone. She just wants to avoid “drama” (which is, as it so often is, a codeword for “other people’s emotional development”)
And drama often involves no emotional development at all, or horrible results for people in the immediate vicinity who had nothing to do with it..
Acting responsible and mature is an important value for Sarah, and unfortunately, most college freshmen aren’t all that mature and responsible, meaning that she’s not going to get along all that well with any of these people. (Even Joyce, whom she basically recognizes as innocent and well-meaning.)
You can be unhappy about being alone without it being a good idea tto go hang out with people who value fundamentally different things than you do. If anything, I find that being among people who have very different values from myself to be more lonely than just being alone.
Is hanging out with upperclassmen or grad students an option?
Yeah Joseph is right, Sarah seems lonley as fuck, but I think she also thinks she doesn’t deserve friends (Her self loathing is pretty evident) However, she can;t avoid Joyce, being her roomie and all, and she has had time to like her so she wants to help her and stuff. Aaaand I assume, espescially when her and joyce have a spat, she would like more friends. She just pushes people away because she thinks thats what she wants and will be easier, then kicks herself for both the attempt and for the pushing back

It just means they would like to talk to a single person (or perhaps a couple of people) instead of being surrounded by a dozen people to fill up their loneliness bar.
Sarah’s perfectly fine in crowds long term until she embarrasses herself and runs for it. Had Raidah and Jacob not shown up she likely would have stayed at the party the whole time, sarcastically commenting on everything.
She’s probably pretty good at Apples To Apples, too.
Except we’re talking about not wanting to interact with anybody. Plus, Sarah’s cynicism is partly to blame.
Speaking as an introvert, that isn’t Sarah’s problem. She genuinely does want to connect with people, but she pushes them away because she’s been hurt, and she’s afraid of being hurt in return. Her flashback with Dana shows pretty obviously that, while Sarah isn’t a social butterfly or anything, she has fun when she goes out with friends.
Being introverted isn’t Sarah’s problem, it’s that she’s afraid to be friends with somebody for fear that it will blow up in her face. Bagge is right. Sarah wants to think she’s so amazingly above everything and has no time for childishness, and acts like she’s permitted to judge people around her with no concept of who they are.

She also seems to express her Hedgehog’s Dilemma in such an intense manner that it’s worrisome, in regards to her personal mental health. Misanthropic is fine, but if Sarah frequently says things like she does around the main cast to her professors, classmates, or basically everyone else….Well….Unwise for someone who wishes not to damage her own 4-year University prospects….

Sarah gets acted on, and got tired of it and backed off, she keeps her sanity by ignoring people.

There are instances in this world where two people just don’t get along with each other for no reason whatsoever. These two don’t seem to have any real reason to dislike each other, but then no reason to like each other either.

Also noticing that Sal seems to get very defensive easily. Mike’s (correct) guess at her doing Jason, her reaction when Danny first approached her, her talk with Walky after Freshmen Family Weekend, and now this.
Probably residual effect from growing up with overbearing favouritism-playing parents.
There’s good reason for her to be jumpy regarding Mike’s guess about Jason, whether she realizes it or not. He’s not the only one who’s in serious trouble if that ever gets to the Powers That Be. Undergrads who sleep with a TA in expectation of a better grade get expelled right quick. And expelled Sal is probably not going be welcomed back home – the Walkerton parents are fairly horrible toward her.
Oh, she’ll probably still be welcome, it’s probably exactly what they’re expecting from her. She’d just be living down to their expectations.
It is certainly possible they’d allow her to come home without making her feel welcome there!
