Technically, Amazi-Girl started the fight. But yes, Ryan threw the first punch, which puts much of the criminal culpability on him.
Since a clinical analysis of the facts is always what determines the outcome in these cases and since facts are never confused in the retelling, we’re golden.

Hmm, I think we need to count up the total number of Imperial Internet Points you’ve distributed, count the number of people with whom you have influence or authority, and then generate a ratio between that IIP/people and the equivalent Internet/people. At least that’d be my initial approach. Refinements might be needed as the process is undertaken.

Right now, We can tell you roughly how many IIPs I have given away (not counting the IOU just now) total. About 9 050. (We gave Orion Fury 9 002 for calming us down with laughter during a moment of rage. There’s been a few other points scattered here and there.)

That was my first thought.
After a moment’s consideration I’m thinking it’s more of a “Damn it, Sal, what did I say about chasing people down to punch them? We have talked about this!”
Marcie’s security. It’s her job to prevent and/or stop fights.
Sal almost started a fight with Amazi-girl, to the point where Marcie had to call in backup. Then she spent like two minutes refusing to let Marcie keep her out of that fight. She also spent that time disrespecting Marcie’s position — she was talking to Marcie like a friend who was keeping her out of the a fight, rather than a member of security, and since Marcie’s arms were busy she couldn’t sign back to say, no fighting at my job.
THEN when that crisis was FINALLY averted, Sal helped beat up and/or run off 4 members of the event staff, drawing the attention and ire of the person who organized the event.
To put it in perspective, suppose you’re working at a coffee shop. It’s your first day. One of your friends is hanging out there, chatting. It’s chill to start with, but then your friend starts insulting customers, coming behind the counter to mess with stuff, and ignoring you when you tell them to behave.
“Ah really don’t like Malaya but I was still semme-cordial with her! For YOU, Marcie! Come on, it ain’t that big a deal. Ah just beat some scumbags up with a real-life superhero.”
Originally that was going to be a much longer continuation of your joke so I could showcase that I was totes doing Sal’s accent right, but then I realized the only part of her accent I was doing was “ah” instead of “I” and this reply is only a reference to It’s Walky in the first place.
The order I read the words of his sentence in was “I-for-one-always-appreciate-the-opportunity-to-read-more-things-in-Applejacks-delicious,-delicious-cereal-oh-wait-no-MLP-stuff-nevermind-Applejack-voice-Ashleigh-Ball”

Why would the girl who’s narratively been set up for the reveal that Sal hurt her by beating people up have an opinion on Sal going out of her way to enter a fight, I wonder?
That’s how I read it, considering she has to push through the crowd, and appeared to stay at her post Sal and AG walked away before. I don’t think she actually saw any of the fight.
She has a radio on her belt though, so I’m sure she at least heard about “Amazi-Girl and some cool biker chick beatin’ up interns”
True, but I just mean some sort of call about AG and “other” fighting interns probably went out over the radio and would have caught Marcie’s attention especially since she knows how Sal used to be. “What the hell are you thinking!” is probably going through Marcie’s head.
This is tough. I like Marcie, a lot, but I like the way this story line was going too, but Marcie’s probably right to be upset… if she’s upset about Sal “taking justice into her own hands” again.
True, but even so we’ve established that it’s potentially a lot more dangerous for Sal than it would be for someone else (and I’m not even just talking about the skin color thing. She’s got a record too) and Sal doesn’t have any protection from “anonymity” that AG does here.

Her most important goal wasn’t to get Ryan’s name, or she wouldn’t have tipped her had when she did. Her most important goal was to punch people a bunch, especially Ryan. “Success”.
Yep. That’s the thing, her typical plans are often terrible, especially given the high likelihood that things she won’t see coming tend to happen – and then she gets distracted or doesn’t know how to handle it.
Ryans goal was to avoid getting punched, get other Bros to fight for him,
get revenge against for his face-slashing, and get the Phone from her.
Amazi-girl srew up allowed him to do all of that … success for him.
He could easily find out who Amazi-girl is where she lives, and then find Joyce to threaten her.
Well, for starters-
Ryan got punched (not as much as anyone would have wanted, but…)
Amber’s phone is probably, hopefully, maybe locked
and even if it wasn’t, he wouldn’t necessarily be able to find Joyce with it,
and even if he could, she’s surrounded by such notable figures as a messenger of the Old Testament god, a badass motorcycle chick, a superhero, a super lesbian, and a dinosaur.
Honestly I can’t see how Ryan would be able to do anything other than give her a spook, and we all know how Joyce is when she’s emotional.
For those of us who have forgotten, she is very punchy. And also strong. As long as the emotion in question is anger, at least. Hopefully she’d be more angry than sad.

OMG that reminds me of a terrible dream I just had. There was this Bee-people Spy-cult. They grabbed me in the end, because they drugged out all the normies on some ecstacy bee pheromone.
So first there was this creepy Vampire dr Frakenstein type who was working in a childrens Hospital. My newphew was there ( as a child ) probably because he was a little shit. He keeps freaking out that his real body is kidnapped and we have to find it. Lot of weird thing happen, and ,maybe the little shit isnt actually insane. We go scoobydo hunting for the “rela body” anf his corpse buried in the basemeent in half broken coffin buzzing with bees. We think there is just bees nest in him but the skin breaks and now hes a boy sized Golden-bee boy.
We complain to the hospital about the Dr and it turns out hes been abducting children for his experiments with their permission supposedly to save them of incurable diseases. Then he returns them as Bee-people committed to some role in a Hive. My newphew is now bee soldier boy doing hospital security. There is no helping this kid. But at least his skin looks cool all golden shining yellow.
Then later I’m part of this crack Intelligence team ( like Sg-1) taking down threats to humanity. I ignored the signs and they got my sister next. They can convert people slowly too. I busted in with a team but there was a Bee cult group there and they used Bee-dopey paralysis on everybody touching them. But I’m too Grumpy for it take me down. I grab my sister and I’m trting to get out of there into a large hallway with people. I’m screaming at everybody to just them. Its a murder spy compound, although lots of nice natural light , and most of the people are just packing Uzis or something. ( So normal for texas ?) . But nobody will. Bee Frankenstein DR dude is gloating how empathic everyone feels and nobody wants to harm anybody.

That, and Marcie just saw Sal join in a scuffle between the masked nutjob she’d just been berating and the evemt’s interns, when she’s spent YEARS trying to keep Sal’s aggression in check because in her experience it always creates more problems than it solves.
I don’t even think she saw THAT much. She’s pushing through the crowd there, so it seems like she only just arrived from her post by the door. I think all she knows is there’s a pile of dudes who got beat the hell up, and from the way she’s leaving with Amazi-Girl, it’s pretty clear Sal had a part in it.
I get the feeling this is a familiar scenario for Marcie.
A) Sal showed up to her job and one way or another ended up causing a ot of commotion – I don’t know many jobs where it’s totally fine to have a friend who doesn’t work there hang out with you while you’re working.
B) Sal is running off with the same person Marcie just risked her own safety to protect her from – like really, Sal? She also might be confused.
C) Marcie might get into trouble with her boss because of this? related to A, I hope she doesn’t lose her job over it.
D) Also, Sal and AG are running off while she has to deal with the fallout of the commotion they both caused – now she feels abandoned in the literal sense.
E) Someone above me mentioned that Marcie might disapprove of the whole “be a violent vigilante” thing that she has probably helped Sal throughout their childhood control her temper and impulse to fight people.
I don’t think Marcie is upset over Sal leaving with AG, it’s not a jealously thing.
Sal was on AG’s case about being a vigilantly.
In the flashback Marcie was upset when Sal attacked the kid that tripped her.
Sal’s attitude towards AG may reflect her own distancing from anything that could drag her back into fighting.
Marcie sees Sal fighting and is reminded of Sal’s past.
My Issue is that, in life, sometimes you have to fight fro what you believe in. Being totally passive may be safe, but goes no where. However, there is a down side.
So, is this a positive thing for Sal, a chance for her to get involved and do something significant [capturing Ryan]?
Or, is it a negative thing? Will Sal fall back into bad habits of overly aggressive behavior?
Not only that, I think some of Marcie’s rage is that before Amazi-Girl saw Ryan, she was ready to fight Sal. Now that Sal is fighting alongside Amazi-Girl, especially with Sal leaping to Amazi-Girl’s aid against the bros. Basically Marcie sees that not only is Sal not helping the situation by joining the fight, Sal’s not helping by chasing after Ryan, especially since he’s no longer in sight and clearly in possession of stolen property. This has progressed well beyond a campus dispute and should involve the proper authorities.
I think the only people that aren’t shipping Amazi-Sal are land lovers. Well, them and the USPS, unless you get a sheet of 100 forever stamps. Then it’s a maybe.
Something about the shallow but broad frown makes me think she’s more frustrated than pissed – one of those times where you can see the other side’s point, but that just aggravates you more because your point is good too.
Was gonna write a comment calling Marcie a hypocrite for being jealous of Sal after pushing her away for the past X weeks for an ill-fated booty call, but then other commenters pointed out that she may just be disapproving of Sal returning to her own vigilante ways. Considering the way this chapter started (Leland), that makes way more sense.
Good, a very definite team up. I think they will play on each others strengths now.
Maybe a good chance for an understanding of what went down years ago.
Marcie is not so happy about this. Jealous? or flat out against this vigilantism? Worried that Sal is just asking for trouble?

I started imagining and writing down an Infinite Walkyverse Crisis storyline, but then I realised this would mean way too many spoilers, so I stopped myself.
Plus, I suppose it’s more fitting if we all keep making up our own storylines in our own heads. After all, the possibilities are… infinite.
OK, OK, one particular plotline wouldn’t hurt…

Walkyverse Mike: I had sex with -your- mom for a nickel.

Well, this is rapidly turning into a bizarro world arc! Sal actually seems to be on the path to mask and a costume just because, yeah, to a certain extent she agrees with Amazi-Girl that, in the, end, when faced with injustice, what are you supposed to do? I can’t blame Marcie if she’s worried. This is a dangerous path and one that remains only in touching distance with safety and sanity in the best of cases.
Then again… is that really the problem here? I’m sorry Marcie but I think that you’re experiencing what Sal experienced when you chose to spend all your time with Malaya. Turnabout being fair play and all that. It also reminds us that childhood friendship doesn’t always survive the transition to adulthood with all the choices that you need to make.
Now… that smile… Is Amazi-Girl developing a crush on Sal?
One’s an emotionally damaged abuse survivor with a secret identity and anger management issues. The other’s a too-cool-for-school rebel with a violent past and resentment of the authorities that never gave her a fair shake. Together… THEY FIGHT CRIME!
It’s the Jimmy Cagney (Sal), Pat O’Brien (Maricie) & Humphrey Bogart (Amazigirl) trio in Angels with Dirty Faces, sort of.
Of course Humph played a bad-man then. Still Pat O’Brien – son of immigrant Irish who becomes a priest – and Cagney the bad(ish) boy are dead ringers for Marcie and Sal.
She’s quite likely angry that she is being a violent vigilante even though she has likely talked to her about this before.
Sal has been through this before, she knows being a vigilante can only help so much and that it can backfire spectacularly.
Why would Marcie be okay with seeing her friend quite possibly slipping back into her younger, more violent, less-controlled self?
Plus, she doesn’t know the deal with Ryan either, she’s just catching the aftermath and if I was Marcie and that was all I caught of the situation, I’d be upset too.
Yeah, I’m with you on that, but seeing as how Marcie participated in a few crimes herself, I don’t see where her moral high ground is. Let’s not forget, she was involved in the 4 vs 1 fight vs AG and underage drinking.

Thinking ahead, I’m expecting this to wrap up quickly; I’m wondering if sad!Amber in the preview panels we’ve seen for the next few weeks might be due to Amber having a very hard time squaring the circle of her PTSD associations with Sal with the realisation that Amazi-Girl likes and admires her.
When one’s personal reality is based on a single assumed truth, it’s hard when that turns out to be a self-delusion.
Long-term, this could go very well or it could go very badly.
Worst-case, Sal and Amazi-Girl may end up enabling each other, causing them to slip further into violence, delusion and a spiral of increasingly anti-social and illegal behaviour. Best-case, they may become sanity anchors for each other, pulling each other back from excesses because of their awareness of the other’s good opinion and their own fears for the other.
Not sure what that face means for her…. Annoyed breaking the law, annoyed she didn’t listen, annoyed that she is continuing to break the law, or what..
but if its annoyed she didn’t listen or got into fight… that fight wasn’t over in an ainstant.. she had plenty of time to try and stop it or get involved in a more official capacity.
Maybe a stretch, but I wonder if this Amazi-Girl/Sal team up is about giving us what we want and making clear how wrong it is.
It’s possible that the Amazi-Girl alter is villainizing Amber in lieu of Sal, that AG exists to protect Sal from the “real” monster. Now that AG is being forced to recognize Sal as a human being capable of goodness she can start doubling down on caging Amber, because Amber is the one who’s broken.
And Sal, jeez. She makes a big spiel to Danny about how Amazi-Girl will get herself killed and she needs to be stopped, and now she’s having a superhero team-up. Plus there’s how Sal is abandoning Marcie after giving her so much shit about never spending time with her, and as an added bonus now Marcie has to clean up their mess.
I feel like what’s coming is more and an insane split in Amber’s mind. We already see that she considers Amazi-Girl and Amber as two different people (re: “protect you from her” comment). I think what’s coming is Amazi-Girl being like “Oh Sal is actually alright and a good human.” and Amber having mental alarms blaring as her own psychological alter ego ‘betrays’ her
Panel 1: I’m really enjoying how much the racist crowd has shaken up AG’s paranoid spiral and allowed AG to actually acknowledge who Sal is as a person rather than the narratives her brain was spinning to justify a specific worldview.
Like, this is huge. She destroyed a relationship simply because her whole image of herself was based on Sal being an irredeemable monster who only lives for ruining lives and she couldn’t reconcile that with having her life saved and now, even though she’s momentarily confused that Sal is continuing to be an ally and support during a rough time and part of her distrusts it, she softens extremely quickly and accepts it.
And I’m so curious to see what this will mean for AG’s whole mythology now that she’s acknowledging Sal is human. Will this lead to her relaxing some of her inflexibility, allowing the idea of people to grow and change?
Unfortunately, we’ve seen that she’s still trying to dump her bad actions all on the Amber alter and that’s still a terrible idea, but by rejecting all that, how is this gonna affect how she looks at the world or even re-evaluates how she treated Danny? Ugh, so many questions!
Panel 2: And again, I love the softness in her eyes as she says this. Old AG would see this as condemnation. If Sal, avatar of pure evil and grand manipulator of sin, thought she was on the right path, then clearly that would mean she had fallen from grace and done an incredible wrong. Hell, she even managed to twist “saved my life” into “did violence to me” in her paranoid delusional bad times.
But here, she just accepts it. Sal thinking she was right about something is comforting her. And I can’t help but see this as her letting go of the mythology for the last time. Letting Sal be the full human she is instead of an avatar of evil. And that will mean so much good in AG stopping her really bad path and really bad actions (an apology to Sal for her consistent misbehavior would also be a very good and necessary thing) and hopefully (fingers crossed) being able to process the role her dad had in the initial split and in being an emotional and physical abuser in her life.
I’m seriously considering the idea that, if Amazi-Girl is letting go of Sal as the avatar of all her misery, then she’s shunting it off onto Amber.
Sal took Amber’s sanity, Amazi-Girl’s dignity, and their Danny, and she was able to do this because she is not a person, but a vague swirling cloud of evil masquerading as human. But then Amazi-Girl is forced to come to her defense, acknowledge that she’s not doing anything wrong, and then Sal leaps into a fight to help her and they both recognize strength and a desire for justice in one another. The myth of Sal as a corrupting influence who has broken Amber might be dead if things continue as is, but now Amber has nobody to blame for her problems except herself.
And worse, it could cause her to further reject any intervention from Danny and Ethan. It was okay for her to shit talk at Danny, because now even Sal agrees that Amazi-Girl is a good thing, and Danny is wrong to try and stop the mission (especially if it’s because he wants Amber to be loose. Doesn’t he know that Amber almost swore at him one time? This monster must be stopped for the good of everyone).
Panel 3: And that apology would be necessary. Sal is acknowledging that AG is right, but Sal hasn’t had the same weird obsession with AG that AG has had with her. Sal’s grievances with AG are real and based on her recent actions.
She’s still come off as extremely racist. She still stalked her and all her friends and tried to goad her into a fight in a parking lot. She still attacked her emotionally when Sal tried to provide first aid after saving her life. She still has angrily stalked Sal for the last two nights at least, following her every move to the point where Sal had to angrily confront her about it.
Sal has a reason to be miffed about this developing friendship and to not fully trust AG and I’d love to see AG actually access humility in not just “making it up” through badassery, but through an earnest apology and full acceptance of Sal’s personhood.
Panel 7: So this is the big one. And I do think part of it is what a lot of people pointed out. Sal probably made promises about “not flying off the handle in a desire to do right” to Marcie. Especially as it’s often blown up on Sal as is implied in the Leland flashback.
I’m also suspecting that the convenience store robberies also stemmed from some similar “justice” rationale, either trying to help out Marcie or something similar, which would leave Marcie with a “ugh, the last time you did this, you got sent away for years, why are you fucking up with this shit again” feeling.
But I think there’s two other parts at play. First is another small part which is Marcie’s experience with AG. Marcie was there at the parking lot when AG attacked them, spouting a bunch of half justifications to harass them that echoed racist cop harassment. So to Marcie, AG is just the racist stalker who inflames Sal to make bad decisions with her harassment.
So to see Sal willingly going with her instead of continuing to hang with her has got to fill her with a fuckton of “what the fuck”.
But the aspect I think is the biggest part of it is simply this. Marcie pulled strings to hang with Sal one-on-one tonight.
See, Sal has been whining for days about getting to see Marcie one-on-one even though Marcie has been exhausted and overworked trying to afford rent, rejecting her ideas for hanging in group spaces that Marcie can more easily do, and begging over and over again for that individual connection time.
So Marcie invites her over tonight while she’s working so they can just hang and yeah, there was some awkward classism, but otherwise it was going okay. And now, Sal is running off, not with a friend, but what has heretofore been an antagonist to her without even bothering to say goodbye to her.
Like, that? That is a shitty action that is immensely dismissive of Marcie’s feelings and the effort involved in finding a way to give Sal what she’s been complaining about in the majority of their recent interactions. And I definitely see a signed argument in the future about this.
So random thought about the phone. Assuming it’s locked*, don’t locked phones still display incoming phone information on them when you receive a call so you can quickly answer or not?
*Which I don’t assume based on Law of Drama.
Which means anyone who calls her phone (say Ethan who’s been trying to get in contact with her to check up on her or Dorothy who’s doing late night homework by a “hey, is this the guy who raped Joyce?” text conversation) will have their name and phone number pop up for Ryan to see.
Also, if I remember right, I think incoming texts briefly show up with a sound and a shortened version of them even when locked so you can get a sense if you should respond, which again, would give at least a name to Ryan to follow up on.
And if it’s a feminine name texting about how “he’s the guy” or something like that, he’s probably going to assume that’s the person who glassed him and seek her out for some “tit-for-tat” revenge**. And if he sees Dorothy in person, he’s probably going to recognize her as the friend that rushed to Joyce’s aid in the aftermath.
**Ryan is an awful person, but we already knew that.
Basically, I’m suspecting that Ryan is gonna get information from the phone no matter what Sal and AG do here.
In general, there’s going to be at least some information that shows up. That can usually be turned off for app notifications and text messages, but if there are phones that can turn that off for incoming calls, I’ve never seen one.
If the caller is in your contacts, at least their name is going to show. Their number too, on many phones. The contact picture as well, though I doubt Amber would have one for Dorothy unless she’s got Facebook our something else set up that would grab one automatically.
There could easily be versions of Android that let you hide some or all of that, but I doubt Amber would have done that. It doesn’t seem like the possibility of somebody getting ahold of Amazi-Girl’s phone is something that had occurred to her before, so I doubt she’s paranoid enough to go to the trouble.
There’s no way Dorothy won’t call or text AG for an update at some point, so she’ll know if she needs to warn Joyce. If they don’t get the phone back first, he’ll certainly get enough info to track her down
Even if he does get the name “Dorothy” from a call or a text, it’s likely to be just that. No last name (unless Amber entered the full name as a contact, which I doubt). No idea where she lives. Generally you only get a number if they’re not in your contacts. Maybe a picture.
Not normally, but even ignoring student directories, Dorothy in particular would be easier to find. Remember they not only is she a reporter — whose picture might appear with her articles — but she has specifically written articles about Amazi-Girl! It wouldn’t take a genius to guess that the Dorothy who got an interview with AG might just be the one trying to contact her
Even if her full name wasn’t enough to track her down, he’d know one place he’d be likely to find her
Yeah, but that vague knowledge may have from to the paper. Even of he doesn’t think to look back at the paper, the first (non-porn) result if he typed ”Amazi-Girl” into google would probably be the online version of Dorothy’s articles.
Its just a matter if whether it occurs to him to look. He wouldn’t need to be especially clever from there
Sal has conquer (mainly) her inner Amber. The need for rage and violence. She still has her inner Amazi-Girl, the one who will fight for justice (with her fists).
Marcie isn’t a position to fight like that. Skin tone, sex and her vocal inability make her much more vulnerable. Plus she doesn’t seem to consider violence as a proper response- though death glares are.
Seriously, it is time for these two to leave before the police arrive and take them into custody.
Is Marcie feeling abandoned? That’s how she made Sal feel when she was trying to get with Malaya. Not saying turnabout is fair play, but I hope it doesn’t wreck Sal and Marcie’s friendship.
It may not be abandonment, it may be that she’s angry that her friend (the one with the police record) is putting herself in a situation that could easily land her back in jail. “Black girl and self styled superhero attack white college frat rat” won’t play well at the police station or in the media.
Look at that grin behind Marcie in that last panel! I’m starting to wonder if, in the lobby of the lecture hall, a strange narrative is starting to emerge. If Sal helped Amazi-Girl… then what if she’s a superhero too? After all, everyone knows that Capes are touchy about others intruding on their “turf”, so that was probably what the earlier argument was all about.
What if… What if Representative DeSanto knew that there were criminals amongst the Bloomington volunteers and personally asked these two to reinforce the venue security to protect her supporters? The dark-skinned, exotic one… What did Amazi-Girl call her? ‘Nightmare’, wasn’t it? She’d been hanging around with some of the security staff earlier! They must have been there to protect Representative DeSanto from some terrible plot! Wow! Wait until I tell the press this!
I’m wondering if Freida may come up with a spin that sounds something like this to save face. :-p

Technically, Amazi-Girl started the fight. But yes, Ryan threw the first punch, which puts much of the criminal culpability on him.
Since a clinical analysis of the facts is always what determines the outcome in these cases and since facts are never confused in the retelling, we’re golden.
If we want to get technical about who’s to blame, it’s still Ryan, because Amazi-Girl is just continuing an ongoing conflict Ryan started.

Marcie’s security. It’s her job to prevent and/or stop fights.
Sal almost started a fight with Amazi-girl, to the point where Marcie had to call in backup. Then she spent like two minutes refusing to let Marcie keep her out of that fight. She also spent that time disrespecting Marcie’s position — she was talking to Marcie like a friend who was keeping her out of the a fight, rather than a member of security, and since Marcie’s arms were busy she couldn’t sign back to say, no fighting at my job.
THEN when that crisis was FINALLY averted, Sal helped beat up and/or run off 4 members of the event staff, drawing the attention and ire of the person who organized the event.
To put it in perspective, suppose you’re working at a coffee shop. It’s your first day. One of your friends is hanging out there, chatting. It’s chill to start with, but then your friend starts insulting customers, coming behind the counter to mess with stuff, and ignoring you when you tell them to behave.
Amazi-Girl almost started a fight with Sal, and then the crowd got nasty, which is when Marcie called for backup.
Both of them were escalating for a bit there, but the incident started when Sal grabbed Amazi-girl’s cape and slammed her to the floor.
I would argue that the instigating event was AG deciding to stalk Sal to the rally, not Sal noticing she was being stalked.

Honestly I can’t see how Ryan would be able to do anything other than give her a spook, and we all know how Joyce is when she’s emotional.

OMG that reminds me of a terrible dream I just had. There was this Bee-people Spy-cult. They grabbed me in the end, because they drugged out all the normies on some ecstacy bee pheromone.
So first there was this creepy Vampire dr Frakenstein type who was working in a childrens Hospital. My newphew was there ( as a child ) probably because he was a little shit. He keeps freaking out that his real body is kidnapped and we have to find it. Lot of weird thing happen, and ,maybe the little shit isnt actually insane. We go scoobydo hunting for the “rela body” anf his corpse buried in the basemeent in half broken coffin buzzing with bees. We think there is just bees nest in him but the skin breaks and now hes a boy sized Golden-bee boy.
We complain to the hospital about the Dr and it turns out hes been abducting children for his experiments with their permission supposedly to save them of incurable diseases. Then he returns them as Bee-people committed to some role in a Hive. My newphew is now bee soldier boy doing hospital security. There is no helping this kid. But at least his skin looks cool all golden shining yellow.
Then later I’m part of this crack Intelligence team ( like Sg-1) taking down threats to humanity. I ignored the signs and they got my sister next. They can convert people slowly too. I busted in with a team but there was a Bee cult group there and they used Bee-dopey paralysis on everybody touching them. But I’m too Grumpy for it take me down. I grab my sister and I’m trting to get out of there into a large hallway with people. I’m screaming at everybody to just them. Its a murder spy compound, although lots of nice natural light , and most of the people are just packing Uzis or something. ( So normal for texas ?) . But nobody will. Bee Frankenstein DR dude is gloating how empathic everyone feels and nobody wants to harm anybody.

That, and Marcie just saw Sal join in a scuffle between the masked nutjob she’d just been berating and the evemt’s interns, when she’s spent YEARS trying to keep Sal’s aggression in check because in her experience it always creates more problems than it solves.
I don’t even think she saw THAT much. She’s pushing through the crowd there, so it seems like she only just arrived from her post by the door. I think all she knows is there’s a pile of dudes who got beat the hell up, and from the way she’s leaving with Amazi-Girl, it’s pretty clear Sal had a part in it.
I get the feeling this is a familiar scenario for Marcie.
My theory for why Marcie is upset:
A) Sal showed up to her job and one way or another ended up causing a ot of commotion – I don’t know many jobs where it’s totally fine to have a friend who doesn’t work there hang out with you while you’re working.
B) Sal is running off with the same person Marcie just risked her own safety to protect her from – like really, Sal? She also might be confused.
C) Marcie might get into trouble with her boss because of this? related to A, I hope she doesn’t lose her job over it.
D) Also, Sal and AG are running off while she has to deal with the fallout of the commotion they both caused – now she feels abandoned in the literal sense.
E) Someone above me mentioned that Marcie might disapprove of the whole “be a violent vigilante” thing that she has probably helped Sal throughout their childhood control her temper and impulse to fight people.

Sal was on AG’s case about being a vigilantly.
In the flashback Marcie was upset when Sal attacked the kid that tripped her.
Sal’s attitude towards AG may reflect her own distancing from anything that could drag her back into fighting.
Marcie sees Sal fighting and is reminded of Sal’s past.
My Issue is that, in life, sometimes you have to fight fro what you believe in. Being totally passive may be safe, but goes no where. However, there is a down side.
So, is this a positive thing for Sal, a chance for her to get involved and do something significant [capturing Ryan]?
Or, is it a negative thing? Will Sal fall back into bad habits of overly aggressive behavior?

It’s not am either/or thing. There are liable to be positives and negatives both.
Not only that, I think some of Marcie’s rage is that before Amazi-Girl saw Ryan, she was ready to fight Sal. Now that Sal is fighting alongside Amazi-Girl, especially with Sal leaping to Amazi-Girl’s aid against the bros. Basically Marcie sees that not only is Sal not helping the situation by joining the fight, Sal’s not helping by chasing after Ryan, especially since he’s no longer in sight and clearly in possession of stolen property. This has progressed well beyond a campus dispute and should involve the proper authorities.
I get the distinct feeling that Marcie isn’t shipping these two.

Well, this is rapidly turning into a bizarro world arc! Sal actually seems to be on the path to mask and a costume just because, yeah, to a certain extent she agrees with Amazi-Girl that, in the, end, when faced with injustice, what are you supposed to do? I can’t blame Marcie if she’s worried. This is a dangerous path and one that remains only in touching distance with safety and sanity in the best of cases.
Then again… is that really the problem here? I’m sorry Marcie but I think that you’re experiencing what Sal experienced when you chose to spend all your time with Malaya. Turnabout being fair play and all that. It also reminds us that childhood friendship doesn’t always survive the transition to adulthood with all the choices that you need to make.

She’s quite likely angry that she is being a violent vigilante even though she has likely talked to her about this before.
Sal has been through this before, she knows being a vigilante can only help so much and that it can backfire spectacularly.
Why would Marcie be okay with seeing her friend quite possibly slipping back into her younger, more violent, less-controlled self?
Plus, she doesn’t know the deal with Ryan either, she’s just catching the aftermath and if I was Marcie and that was all I caught of the situation, I’d be upset too.
Yeah, I’m with you on that, but seeing as how Marcie participated in a few crimes herself, I don’t see where her moral high ground is. Let’s not forget, she was involved in the 4 vs 1 fight vs AG and underage drinking.

Thinking ahead, I’m expecting this to wrap up quickly; I’m wondering if sad!Amber in the preview panels we’ve seen for the next few weeks might be due to Amber having a very hard time squaring the circle of her PTSD associations with Sal with the realisation that Amazi-Girl likes and admires her.
When one’s personal reality is based on a single assumed truth, it’s hard when that turns out to be a self-delusion.

Long-term, this could go very well or it could go very badly.
Worst-case, Sal and Amazi-Girl may end up enabling each other, causing them to slip further into violence, delusion and a spiral of increasingly anti-social and illegal behaviour. Best-case, they may become sanity anchors for each other, pulling each other back from excesses because of their awareness of the other’s good opinion and their own fears for the other.

Not sure what that face means for her…. Annoyed breaking the law, annoyed she didn’t listen, annoyed that she is continuing to break the law, or what..
but if its annoyed she didn’t listen or got into fight… that fight wasn’t over in an ainstant.. she had plenty of time to try and stop it or get involved in a more official capacity.
Maybe a stretch, but I wonder if this Amazi-Girl/Sal team up is about giving us what we want and making clear how wrong it is.
It’s possible that the Amazi-Girl alter is villainizing Amber in lieu of Sal, that AG exists to protect Sal from the “real” monster. Now that AG is being forced to recognize Sal as a human being capable of goodness she can start doubling down on caging Amber, because Amber is the one who’s broken.
And Sal, jeez. She makes a big spiel to Danny about how Amazi-Girl will get herself killed and she needs to be stopped, and now she’s having a superhero team-up. Plus there’s how Sal is abandoning Marcie after giving her so much shit about never spending time with her, and as an added bonus now Marcie has to clean up their mess.
I feel like what’s coming is more and an insane split in Amber’s mind. We already see that she considers Amazi-Girl and Amber as two different people (re: “protect you from her” comment). I think what’s coming is Amazi-Girl being like “Oh Sal is actually alright and a good human.” and Amber having mental alarms blaring as her own psychological alter ego ‘betrays’ her
DUN dun DUUUUUN.

Panel 1: I’m really enjoying how much the racist crowd has shaken up AG’s paranoid spiral and allowed AG to actually acknowledge who Sal is as a person rather than the narratives her brain was spinning to justify a specific worldview.
Like, this is huge. She destroyed a relationship simply because her whole image of herself was based on Sal being an irredeemable monster who only lives for ruining lives and she couldn’t reconcile that with having her life saved and now, even though she’s momentarily confused that Sal is continuing to be an ally and support during a rough time and part of her distrusts it, she softens extremely quickly and accepts it.
And I’m so curious to see what this will mean for AG’s whole mythology now that she’s acknowledging Sal is human. Will this lead to her relaxing some of her inflexibility, allowing the idea of people to grow and change?
Unfortunately, we’ve seen that she’s still trying to dump her bad actions all on the Amber alter and that’s still a terrible idea, but by rejecting all that, how is this gonna affect how she looks at the world or even re-evaluates how she treated Danny? Ugh, so many questions!
Panel 2: And again, I love the softness in her eyes as she says this. Old AG would see this as condemnation. If Sal, avatar of pure evil and grand manipulator of sin, thought she was on the right path, then clearly that would mean she had fallen from grace and done an incredible wrong. Hell, she even managed to twist “saved my life” into “did violence to me” in her paranoid delusional bad times.
But here, she just accepts it. Sal thinking she was right about something is comforting her. And I can’t help but see this as her letting go of the mythology for the last time. Letting Sal be the full human she is instead of an avatar of evil. And that will mean so much good in AG stopping her really bad path and really bad actions (an apology to Sal for her consistent misbehavior would also be a very good and necessary thing) and hopefully (fingers crossed) being able to process the role her dad had in the initial split and in being an emotional and physical abuser in her life.
I’m seriously considering the idea that, if Amazi-Girl is letting go of Sal as the avatar of all her misery, then she’s shunting it off onto Amber.
Sal took Amber’s sanity, Amazi-Girl’s dignity, and their Danny, and she was able to do this because she is not a person, but a vague swirling cloud of evil masquerading as human. But then Amazi-Girl is forced to come to her defense, acknowledge that she’s not doing anything wrong, and then Sal leaps into a fight to help her and they both recognize strength and a desire for justice in one another. The myth of Sal as a corrupting influence who has broken Amber might be dead if things continue as is, but now Amber has nobody to blame for her problems except herself.
And worse, it could cause her to further reject any intervention from Danny and Ethan. It was okay for her to shit talk at Danny, because now even Sal agrees that Amazi-Girl is a good thing, and Danny is wrong to try and stop the mission (especially if it’s because he wants Amber to be loose. Doesn’t he know that Amber almost swore at him one time? This monster must be stopped for the good of everyone).
You might be right about that.
Which is definitely bad for her overall. It really feels like a two steps forward, one step back thing.

Panel 3: And that apology would be necessary. Sal is acknowledging that AG is right, but Sal hasn’t had the same weird obsession with AG that AG has had with her. Sal’s grievances with AG are real and based on her recent actions.
She’s still come off as extremely racist. She still stalked her and all her friends and tried to goad her into a fight in a parking lot. She still attacked her emotionally when Sal tried to provide first aid after saving her life. She still has angrily stalked Sal for the last two nights at least, following her every move to the point where Sal had to angrily confront her about it.
Sal has a reason to be miffed about this developing friendship and to not fully trust AG and I’d love to see AG actually access humility in not just “making it up” through badassery, but through an earnest apology and full acceptance of Sal’s personhood.
Panel 7: So this is the big one. And I do think part of it is what a lot of people pointed out. Sal probably made promises about “not flying off the handle in a desire to do right” to Marcie. Especially as it’s often blown up on Sal as is implied in the Leland flashback.
I’m also suspecting that the convenience store robberies also stemmed from some similar “justice” rationale, either trying to help out Marcie or something similar, which would leave Marcie with a “ugh, the last time you did this, you got sent away for years, why are you fucking up with this shit again” feeling.
But I think there’s two other parts at play. First is another small part which is Marcie’s experience with AG. Marcie was there at the parking lot when AG attacked them, spouting a bunch of half justifications to harass them that echoed racist cop harassment. So to Marcie, AG is just the racist stalker who inflames Sal to make bad decisions with her harassment.
So to see Sal willingly going with her instead of continuing to hang with her has got to fill her with a fuckton of “what the fuck”.
But the aspect I think is the biggest part of it is simply this. Marcie pulled strings to hang with Sal one-on-one tonight.
See, Sal has been whining for days about getting to see Marcie one-on-one even though Marcie has been exhausted and overworked trying to afford rent, rejecting her ideas for hanging in group spaces that Marcie can more easily do, and begging over and over again for that individual connection time.
So Marcie invites her over tonight while she’s working so they can just hang and yeah, there was some awkward classism, but otherwise it was going okay. And now, Sal is running off, not with a friend, but what has heretofore been an antagonist to her without even bothering to say goodbye to her.
Like, that? That is a shitty action that is immensely dismissive of Marcie’s feelings and the effort involved in finding a way to give Sal what she’s been complaining about in the majority of their recent interactions. And I definitely see a signed argument in the future about this.
That last point you brought up? Is a great damn point, no wonder Marcie’s pissed off.
So random thought about the phone. Assuming it’s locked*, don’t locked phones still display incoming phone information on them when you receive a call so you can quickly answer or not?
*Which I don’t assume based on Law of Drama.
Which means anyone who calls her phone (say Ethan who’s been trying to get in contact with her to check up on her or Dorothy who’s doing late night homework by a “hey, is this the guy who raped Joyce?” text conversation) will have their name and phone number pop up for Ryan to see.
Also, if I remember right, I think incoming texts briefly show up with a sound and a shortened version of them even when locked so you can get a sense if you should respond, which again, would give at least a name to Ryan to follow up on.
And if it’s a feminine name texting about how “he’s the guy” or something like that, he’s probably going to assume that’s the person who glassed him and seek her out for some “tit-for-tat” revenge**. And if he sees Dorothy in person, he’s probably going to recognize her as the friend that rushed to Joyce’s aid in the aftermath.
**Ryan is an awful person, but we already knew that.
Basically, I’m suspecting that Ryan is gonna get information from the phone no matter what Sal and AG do here.
This depends on your settings. My phone has the options to turn off notifications on the lock screen.
In general, there’s going to be at least some information that shows up. That can usually be turned off for app notifications and text messages, but if there are phones that can turn that off for incoming calls, I’ve never seen one.
If the caller is in your contacts, at least their name is going to show. Their number too, on many phones. The contact picture as well, though I doubt Amber would have one for Dorothy unless she’s got Facebook our something else set up that would grab one automatically.
There could easily be versions of Android that let you hide some or all of that, but I doubt Amber would have done that. It doesn’t seem like the possibility of somebody getting ahold of Amazi-Girl’s phone is something that had occurred to her before, so I doubt she’s paranoid enough to go to the trouble.
There’s no way Dorothy won’t call or text AG for an update at some point, so she’ll know if she needs to warn Joyce. If they don’t get the phone back first, he’ll certainly get enough info to track her down
Even if he does get the name “Dorothy” from a call or a text, it’s likely to be just that. No last name (unless Amber entered the full name as a contact, which I doubt). No idea where she lives. Generally you only get a number if they’re not in your contacts. Maybe a picture.
That’s not really enough to track someone down.
Not normally, but even ignoring student directories, Dorothy in particular would be easier to find. Remember they not only is she a reporter — whose picture might appear with her articles — but she has specifically written articles about Amazi-Girl! It wouldn’t take a genius to guess that the Dorothy who got an interview with AG might just be the one trying to contact her
Even if her full name wasn’t enough to track her down, he’d know one place he’d be likely to find her
Ryan seemed to only vaguely know about Amazi-Girl when she confronted him. It’s possible that he’s only heard rumours and courtyard scuttlebutt.
Yeah, but that vague knowledge may have from to the paper. Even of he doesn’t think to look back at the paper, the first (non-porn) result if he typed ”Amazi-Girl” into google would probably be the online version of Dorothy’s articles.
Its just a matter if whether it occurs to him to look. He wouldn’t need to be especially clever from there
Sal has conquer (mainly) her inner Amber. The need for rage and violence. She still has her inner Amazi-Girl, the one who will fight for justice (with her fists).
Marcie isn’t a position to fight like that. Skin tone, sex and her vocal inability make her much more vulnerable. Plus she doesn’t seem to consider violence as a proper response- though death glares are.
Seriously, it is time for these two to leave before the police arrive and take them into custody.

Is Marcie feeling abandoned? That’s how she made Sal feel when she was trying to get with Malaya. Not saying turnabout is fair play, but I hope it doesn’t wreck Sal and Marcie’s friendship.
It may not be abandonment, it may be that she’s angry that her friend (the one with the police record) is putting herself in a situation that could easily land her back in jail. “Black girl and self styled superhero attack white college frat rat” won’t play well at the police station or in the media.

Look at that grin behind Marcie in that last panel! I’m starting to wonder if, in the lobby of the lecture hall, a strange narrative is starting to emerge. If Sal helped Amazi-Girl… then what if she’s a superhero too? After all, everyone knows that Capes are touchy about others intruding on their “turf”, so that was probably what the earlier argument was all about.
What if… What if Representative DeSanto knew that there were criminals amongst the Bloomington volunteers and personally asked these two to reinforce the venue security to protect her supporters? The dark-skinned, exotic one… What did Amazi-Girl call her? ‘Nightmare’, wasn’t it? She’d been hanging around with some of the security staff earlier! They must have been there to protect Representative DeSanto from some terrible plot! Wow! Wait until I tell the press this!
I’m wondering if Freida may come up with a spin that sounds something like this to save face. :-p
