Heh, I’d call it “putting on airs.” Y’know, a trick Billie would have probably loved to use, but she’d first have to accept that she don’t gotz da game, so it’s a big no can do.
Sal does it all the time, with behaving like a loner with no desire to be the center of attention and all.

Hasn’t the term ‘psychopath’ itself fallen out of favour? Now it’s all anti-social personality disorder/borderline personality disorder, etc. Increase number of syllables, decrease psychological impact of the term on the public.

Anti-social personality disorder actually refers to those formerly known as Sociopaths.

Also, she has just as much reason and authority to attack Walky as anybody she has attacked–none of either.

Good god people, she didn’t get physical with Billie until after Billie got physical with her. (Admittedly Billie was baited, but she started both the verbal and the physical confrontations.) She did not “start out by stealing Billie’s stuff and then damaging it”. She started out by getting Billie to physically attack her, and then summarily winning.

I feel annoyed at having to defend Ruth here, but when you people have to completely make things up to make her seem bad, she actually sounds better from your comments, because if she was really bad, you wouldn’t feel compelled to make things up to make her seem worse.

“I feel annoyed at having to defend Ruth here, but when you people have to completely make things up to make her seem bad”

Really? I’m not sure what comic you’re reading, but the rest of us are reading the one where Ruth goaded Billie into a fight, broke into Billie’s room, stole her high school cheerleader uniform (and later started pulling the letters off it). I’ve never been to a university, so I’m only guessing here, but I’m pretty sure those actions are outside the scope of her duties as an RA. Theft and vandalism are also illegal, and she should know that, meaning she doesn’t care she’s doing something wrong. Not to mention she’s breaking the university’s rules by drinking beer in her room.

She started targeting Billie just because Billie was a cheerleader, and now she’s trying to target Sal just because Sal has had the temerity to defend Billie.

You’re right — Ruth is obviously not really that bad.

Do people normally carry that sort of thing to the entire family? I mean shit dude. If every enemy my brother’s ever made came and started beating me up without provocation I’d probably have to end his life just to be able to continue living my own.

Come to think of it, I’m sure Walky’s situation is similar. If everyone who’s exchanged blows with Sal greets Walky with a punch then attending the same school as her was a really poor decision on Walky’s part.

She couldn’t do that if her charges reported her, either. What with being fired and expelled and probably arrested and all.
We’re accepting that that’s not happening for the sake of humor and drama, but there’s no reason Walky is any more dangerous to her than anybody else, and since she’s not in charge of his safety to any extent injuring him is slightly *less* against the rules that she’s not following anyway.

I think that’s why Ruth isn’t messing with Walky (undecided on any level of attraction on her part). Walky is not a “power” individual, and he’s quite simple. He’s no challenge for her to exert her influence over. In fact, he already treats her like Alpha (Fe)male in panel 1. Psychoanalysis concluded!

I don’t get why people are suggesting Ruth’s mood swings are related to the time of month (aside from that being the standard conclusion guys jump to).

She had a clearly identified target, whom she’d gotten violent with in the past. That target, and her cohort/roommate, are now out of Ruth’s presence. Meanwhile Ruth is left in the arms of a boy who was overheard to be interested in freckled ass. Of course Ruth isn’t as angry as she was two seconds ago.

Making a quip about it being “that time of the month” whenever a female acts counter to your expectations is not really a joke. Sure, it can be a joke to guys who tell the joke, but it can sometimes be annoying to others who have to hear that “joke” over and over and over again for the rest of their lives. It can be kind of condescending, and some people may be understandably weary of hearing it.

Allow me to explain the fundamental principles of comedy. Because I’m feeling talkative and have a bit of condescension I’m looking to work out of my system.

You see, how well a joke is received is directly proportionate to how funny the joke is. If everyone laughs that’s a good sign you’re gonna get away with something that might otherwise have offended.

While repetition can be utilized within the art of comedy, such only extends to a certain ambiguous point. Repeat a joke too many times with too great frequency and it begins to lose its impact.

As a joke, “It’s her time of the month” has done very little to stay fresh. It doesn’t get mixed up or repackaged. It also gets repeated ad nauseum. The result is that it’s already old by the time you’re eight. Maybe younger if you’re a female, I wouldn’t know. Regardless, many cannot actually recall a time when the joke was ever funny at all. It’s mostly just something people say with great frequency. It almost ceases to be a joke at all, and ventures into the territory of a figure of speech.

Now, bearing in mind the original point, that a joke can get away with more based on how funny it is, let’s get to the meat of it. See, the sentiment behind the joke does indeed hold a capacity to offend. What with the implication that the feelings of about half the populace are likely to be invalid. Take into account that even those who aren’t members of that demographic likely have loved ones who are and it can pretty quickly work its way into some deeply unpopular waters.

What with the degree to which the joke is unfunny, it gets no real boon to the reception at all. The response is likely to be akin to if you had just stated the sentiment outright in a serious tone.

I trust that this has been informative. Now in the future when you pull the “It’s a joke” card, you’ll be aware of the exact limitations of the protection that offers.

        TL;DR: Ever heard of unfunny?

Funny, there are two jackasses in the room and you go after the one that isn’t advocating sexism.

Not gonna argue or anything. You’re right on both counts. I was ridiculing Whaaaat?, informing wasn’t really a goal as such, and what makes a joke funny is a bit of a lighter and less volatile topic than what makes sexism and misogyny harmful. If I’d chosen that I’m sure I would’ve gotten droves of arguments that I frankly just don’t want to read. Don’t need to hear someone explain to me why he doesn’t think sexism and misogyny are a problem. That stuff goes from disagreeable to cringe inducing in seconds.

Just can’t help but raise an eyebrow at this development though. Didn’t think that of the two of us I’d be the one getting called out for that.

Ruth actually smiled in a non-psychotic/evil/condescending way.

What manner of sorcery is this?

According to the DnD wiki on magic, either Enchantment or Illusion was used.

The Walky is not the Ruth’s natural prey, as the Ruth only hunts the female members of the species. Once the Ruth realizes the Walky is not a female she proceeds to release him in order to peruse the Billie that she had been hunting earlier. The confused Walky then proceeds to return to his natural habitat to consume a diet of McNuggets and Nachitos.

The most interesting departure for Ruth in this continuity: the apparently lack of Nihilism. That’s not to say it’s not there, but it’s not seen.

She was all about the Nihilism in Roomies!.

Can any of you experts tell me what is the number of this comic? I feel like it’s somewhere in the 200’s

David’s count is cheating, he can just ctrl+a his final art folder.

Actually, I went into the ComicPress system and added up all the strips storyline-by-storyline. My art folder, with possible variations saved, would provide a greater margin of error.

So I used math! …well, my Windows Calculator used math.

Hey, does anybody remember that time when Ruth was genuinely nice to Dorothy after the floor meeting? You know, when she demonstrated that if you don’t challenge her, she doesn’t go after you? And that she doesn’t go after all/only girls, or all/only people under her jurisdiction, but instead people who have proactively aroused her ire, rendering her vindictive but not random?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that didn’t happen either.

“DO I LOOK OKAY?–Or does this sweater make me look fat?”

      DON’T ANSWER WALKY IT’S A TRAP!

Wait. Better advice: “It makes you sexy/pretty/stunning/great.”

Or a no will suffice if the girl is not the “Yea, but I aked if I look fat? >=/” Type

“No Ruth, the sweater doesn’t make you look more fat. That would be impossible.”

Walky’s going to be drowning in girls. It’s going to really mess up his nugget-loving style.

Why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that she’s not fighting him because he’s male? If I were Ruth, I’d see Walky’s “nonthreatening” character trait as MUCH more important than his “male” character trait.

Even in an alternate universe where she didn’t babysit him, it seems she just can’t help being maternal toward him anyway. Go figure.
