The Siegals

Despite Ethan arguably being the main character of Shortpacked! for about eight years, we never saw much of his parents.  In fact, we only got one glimpse of his mom’s arm.  So I just kind of whole-hog made ’em up.  Here Saul and Naomi Siegal are, for the first-ish time!  And boy, do they have some weird ideas about homosexuality.  In the Old Continuity, I imagine they figured out Ethan was gay before he did, and had kind of resigned themselves to it by the time he told them he was gay long after college, but in Dumbing of Age, Ethan came out in high school and his parents are still young and stupid.

      There’s something about him that makes him look… too young. I guess it’s the broad shoulders. His body type is so much like Ethan’s that he automatically reads as being the same age. I suppose he really works out.

      Great quote! C. S. Lewis, but it sounds like something a hardboiled detective would say. A chandlerism like “She was staring after me with an expression she probably would have said was thoughtful.”

        Thank you for the attribution. It’s from the Screwtape Letters I see. As for chandlerism, while I’ve read all of Chandler’s books, there’s no line that really sticks so I could say yea or nay.

    He constantly worries that it will leave him for a manlier man.

    1/ I’m pretty sure I know Naomi in real life… :D
    2/ Saul does not have a mustache. He just has really, really terrible dental hygiene and a permanently horrified expression.

    i always kinda thought ethan’s mom would be overweight for some reason. but skinny shrew seems like an even better design.

    Boy Willis, if there wasn’t such a thing as family visit week you’d have to make it up.

    I’m a bit worried that Ethan’s dad is another clone with a “stache though. Same joke should not be used twice.

    Or maybe they’ll just meet with Joe’s dad and they’ll both think “haha, look at how alike those two are, unlike us, hilarious!” Or mybe “awkwaaaard…”
