It strikes me that “potentially fascist hobby” covers a much wider range of activities today than it did a dozen years ago.

To be fair, vigilantism has a long history of being a fascist hobby.
Vigilantism is the result of a non formalized police force with an enforced code of ethics. Said vigilantism can become fascistic if exercised by people that cant distingish the punishment for littering from the punishment for murder or rape.
I mean the absence of a police force with ethics.
Beats the hell out of throwing magic scrolls into a hotspring and hoping the gods will sort it out, that’s for sure.
Well Amber/Amazi has use vigilantism as an excuse to stalk and harass Sal, harassing her and Marcie’s group for a minor thing like drinking at 18 in the process. I feel like I remember her taking littering too seriously but that could be my mind playing tricks on me
I think in Amazi-Girl’s case, you really have to look at her personal vendetta against Sal separately from her regular vigilante work. She did use it was an excuse, but the petty crime wasn’t the motivation and she didn’t extend that to attacking others for the same things. Don’t get me wrong, her harassment of Sal was still deeply wrong, but it’s not that closely tied to the vigilantism. Had she chosen a different path for her alter, she still would have been after Sal.
Plus, she’s resolved those issues and Sal’s her sidekick now.
We can’t deny, though, that Amber is a sick puppy.
It’s more that it becomes fascistic when it’s aimed at a minority population – which it nearly always is. Either blatantly or under cover of “them being the ones doing all the crime”.
I’d argue it’s only really fascist when it has at least tacit government support.

If the government doesn’t do anything after the vigilantes act, then I’d say that that counts as government support. The Bolivian military said that they’d “side with the people” by which the meant do nothing while the rioters attacked Morales supporters and also just any indigenous person.

Add to that, the fact that they are on electric scooters. I’d have trouble taking someone on an e-scooter seriously even if they warned me that I was on fire.

I know Mike really is an asshole sometimes, but I just always have enjoyed Mike’s character. I wish I could get away with some of the assholery that he does. Not all of it, some of it goes to far, but a lot of it would be nice.

Going for the cops seems like the rational thing to do. That is unless the police are Republicans, or they are Mexican police. Too many corrupt cops independently of every nation.

Well in Walky!verse he’s a highly trained combat operative with superpowers. Here he’s a just a teenager facing off against a full adult with a ball-peen hammer.
I wouldn’t put it past him having gotten into a couple of fistfights here and there but the odds are weighted way heavier against him in the Dumby!verse.
I’d say highly trained is generous. We are talking about SEMME after all. But at least he had super strength and didn’t get hurt as easily.
And possibly had a less visible super power on the side, like empathy.

I believe the author has stated that nobody will die in the comic (since the long time frame would mean characters would be in mourning for years). Injury is possible though.
And Amber isn’t at the party now… she left early. That doesn’t mean she’s actually on ‘patrol’ as amazi-girl right now. (She could still be on the way home, or asleep, or playing video games, or whatever. Or she could just be acting as Amber (Trying to suppress the Amazigirl personality) So it is possible that she could feel guilty if Mike were to get injured.
No one who matters, at least. But I think with the recurring villains even killing off Beef or Tony would completely derail the pace because it’s ‘my shitty dad killed this person, while he was going after me.’ I think any injury requiring more than tape or a couple days with a wrist brace is out, too. (Hence, Joyce is now mostly over a broken toe via the magic of painkillers.)
(That said, killing off the Dean’s football player son might open some interesting doors anyway. Just not like this.)
That statement assumes that the decedent would have someone who cares enough to mourn rather than celebrate their passing. I don’t think Blaine O’Malley falls under that classification.
As I’ve said before, the celebrations would disrupt the comic for years.

It is sad that the only time Mike does something noble the results seem futile. Amber is going through a lot too, Mike. Sometimes you have to be the hero and not pray to the universe for a hero that may not come. The good news is that Blaine is a dumbass that cant improvise nor plan beyond to steps.

And Amber’s mental state appears to have gotten WAY the fuck worse since the original Blaine beatdown. (Which wasn’t the only thing that’s contributed to her dissociation ramping up and the apparent lack of memory-sharing between her and AG, but sure seems to have helped kick things off. That first ‘I don’t know (if I’m Amber or Amazi-girl under this mask)’ was immediately post-McDonalds fight.)
I’m pretty sure she’ll show up, since we’ve seen her winter costume and Willis has said he gets jumpy if he goes too long without drawing a superhero sequence, but I do wish Mike would go straight to the police with both his ‘hey this mob stooge is here, armed, and has a history of abusing his family members and did I mention he’s looking for his daughter right now?’ and ‘hey the dude you guys released on bail after he kidnapped his daughter at gunpoint? Is right back trying to get her again.’ Don’t put that shit on their intended victims. Put that shit in jail.

This is slightly out-of-character for Mike, but I do think that he’s over-estimating the average passer-by’s sense of community responsibility, initiative and common sense here!
Ah, so that’s where he’s going with all this. I wonder, does he think another confrontation with Blaine will somehow be beneficial for Amber/Amazi-girl? Or does he want Blaine back in hospital without dirtying his own hands? Or is this simply his way of flirting?

Maybe Mike hasn’t pieced together that Amber is Amazi-girl, and was just assuming AG was some sort of vigilante that might be useful in this situation (not knowing about the split personality situation and/or the relationship with Blaine.)
Yeah, I was temporarily assuming he knew, but I don’t think there’s any evidence for it. Neither has ever hinted at it that I can recall.
The evidence is kind of indirect. But if he called Amber’s phone number before going into narration mode with the League of Evil Dad’s, then that’s pretty convincing conformation.

Regarding Toedad: Maybe, just maybe, he takes Blaine’s advice and prays. And turns his life around. I doubt it, violent idiocy is more his vein. But his benefactor/spiritual guide has revealed himself to be a mob goon who’s willing to kill. If anything would get him to question his premises, that would. A simple phone call to Joyce’s dad could help Ross a lot. He’s still a villain who deserves to go to jail. But maybe Ross could understand that he was wrong, and work to fix it, as little as it can be fixed.

The problem with video vigilantes is that they rarely show up when they might actually do some good — at least, intentionally.
So… Amazigirl is his backup plan? I expected something… a little more sophisticated.
Rolling up to the security main office is all the more complicated he needs to get now.
You know, that might actually be Mike’s real plan.
Throw out Amazi-girl’s name, get Blaine to concentrate on THAT, and while he’s looking out for her, Mike can lead him to the security office. (Otherwise, without the distraction, Blaine might have been smart enough to avoid campus police.

Welp Blaine violated his no campus rule on top of the threatened violence, he’s not helping his cause.
Was there an actual ‘no campus’ rule? I figured Toe Dad would be banned from Campus, but since the only transgression Blaine had regarding the university was visiting on family day (when he wasn’t supposed to), I wasn’t sure if that was serious enough for the university to ban him from campus.
No time to look it up, but I recall Blaine has a total ban from Campus until his daughter graduates or drops out permanently.
As far as I know, the only formal interaction is that he was asked to leave.
I believe there was an injunction, but not by the University.
He also got into an altercation with a student (Ruth) during that time, and his abusive behaviors are well-known on that floor.
He is not allowed near Amber, it seems.
