Congratulations Woomy and BBCC! I hope your time in higher education was less drama filled then the comic characters we choose to spend our days reading about!
Sometimes I have an existential crisis over the fact that I’ve been reading this comic since high school, and they’re still in the first semester of their freshman year with a world of possibilities ahead of them.
I mean, it’s not a cause-and-effect thing. People who think that they’re a monster will often comfort themselves with the idea that at least the universe is fair.
And I’m wondering whether becky is projecting. Dina is a rebound, becky is in love with Joyce. That has to cause some doubts, insecurities and difficulties she might project into dina.
I think Dina’s right that Becky’s feeling very insecure, but I think Dina’s not the problem so much as that Becky really hasn’t been able to not feel like a freeloader for a while, having to depend on the kindness of friends, strangers, and her new family. She doesn’t exactly have a roadmap on how to do right by the people who did right by her, so she overcompensates.
Plus I’d say Becky isn’t exactly over all her feelings for Joyce. She wants to be over them, and she really does like Dina and enjoys being her girlfriend but feelings aren’t always easy to get rid of. So she probably feels guilty towards Dina about that as well as her general having to rely on strangers stage she has just left.
This is exactly what I think. I’ve been very poor for a while due to unemployment and now tend to be as generous as I can be when I can be because of that. My father grew up in obscene amounts of poverty and to this day, overloads us with gifts on major holidays. When you CAN finally give people the things you feel they truly deserve, it’s a real smorgasbord of emotions.
She also grew up in the same ridiculous culture as Joyce and likely absorbed much of notions of romance from rom-coms and the like. Fancy parties and elaborate gifts are all tied up with True Love.
ROBIN:
Thanks to your postings on twitter
My polls are soaring, the credit is yours
Now try not to get the jitters
I’ll pay tuition by stiffing the poors
College credits, major in STEM
The kind of strings my office can pull
Keep on tweeting out my positions
It’s educational. Lucrative too!
BECKY
My future’s starting
I’ve got to let it!
Just post some tweets and geez my bank account will rise.
…What am I saying?
No way, forget it.
It’s much to dangerous if her campaign’s alive
I take this offer
That means less funding
Who knew that greed could be a mortal cardinal sin?
I take this offer
That means my cunning
Might be the reason that Robin DeSanto wins!
No! No! There’s only so far you can bend!
No! No! Guess what I’m a lesbian!
No! No!
You’ve got no alternative, no time to whine
Though it means you’ll be homeless you must grow a spine
From Robin’s campaign, it’s time to untwine
Oh Becky, you’ve gotta resign
….
“But then there’s Dina
Lovely Dina
If times were leaner, and we had no dinosaur
She might not like me
She might not want me
Without my cash
She might not love me anymore”
The Obvious solution is a slipshine episode where Dina proves her love by initiating an hours long session of depraved behaviors with Becky atop the plushy
I think Becky’s problem is going to be that Dina will give all the encouragement of Becky’s new employment she needs, thinking it worth it. What Becky REALLY wants to hear from Dina is she’s made a mistake and needs to quit.
And for context, Elinor Glyn was a novelist of the early 20th century whose books were (for the time) racy and scandalous…which led to this bit of doggerel:
Would you like to sin
with Elinor Glyn
on a tiger skin?
Or would you prefer
to err with her
on some other fur?
So…
Would you like a chapter
where Becky tapped her
on a Utahraptor?
Wouldn’t it be torrid
if those two got florid
on a dromaeosaurid?
I was about to point out that, yeah, Amber has already accepted that Fuckface Jr. is staying. Even though he blocks her Transformers. The girl adapts quickly, doesn’t she?
So Becky things she needs Robin’s money for Dina to love her, huh? Hmmmmm.
I’m not sure if this storyline ends with Becky being evil or with Becky and Dina making up and the status quo restored and everyone’s happy, but I’m pretty confident that the climax of “act 2” is going to be Robin’s poll numbers going up, Becky choosing to stick with Robin because she thinks she needs money to keep Dina, and then Becky being surprised when Dina breaks up with her over it.
Becky has found love and is afraid if she doesn’t do enough she’ll lose it, and given the state her family life is in she NEEDS love right now despite what her surface attitude says in my op. Couple that with a sudden windfall and yeah she’s going to go a bit overboard…course this is Becky she’d go overboard even if she hadn’t just come into a bunch of money.
A fair compromise. No point in crying over the spilt milk, forgive and forget, forgive yourself and sin no more…
Until the next time she sees a giant dino plushie.
I’m not normally one for headcanons, but I like to imagine Dina listens to Hevisaurus (Finnish dinosaur-themed metal band) and Victorius (specifically their EP ‘Legend of the Power Saurus’). Perhaps not the latter, as the dinosaurs in that one have lasers, though it might be to Ethan’s taste.
“Would they even accept returns for this? I mean–” *rips off tags* “TOO LATE, MINE FOREVER”
Imagines Dina taking it to the Monogram shop.
Isn’t there already a custom bit for campaign reasons?
The bandaid making it technically not embezzelment.
Geez, Amber, let’s not be hasty.
I’m too tired to come up with anything else to say. Today was my university graduation and I had to get up early. I’ll be funny again tomorrow.
Oh hey I am graduating university too this week
We are the same
Neato! We’ll be graduation buddies.
Congratulations to the two of you
Thank you!
Con-graduations, both of you!
A+ punning.
Congrats to you each.
(No reply needed.)
Thank you!
:confetti_ball: Congratulations, both of you! Here’s to a bright future for you both
Thank you!
Shoving aside my initial bongo-y joke reaction to say congrats on graduating!
Thank you!
Congratulations.
Congratulations Woomy and BBCC! I hope your time in higher education was less drama filled then the comic characters we choose to spend our days reading about!
Thanks! And yeah, the most dramatic thing about today is that the strap of my flats got wonky and pinched my foot so I got a couple nasty blisters.
Ouch! But at least your toenail didn’t fall off.
No, and it’s not gonna.
Mostly because no matter how hard it gets hurt, it never falls off. Must have strong nails or something.
Sometimes I have an existential crisis over the fact that I’ve been reading this comic since high school, and they’re still in the first semester of their freshman year with a world of possibilities ahead of them.
XD Understandable.
Thank you!
Congratulations! You can take the night off and get ready to hit those books tomorrow, ’cause that MLIS won’t just drop into your lap.
Well, I don’t start the MLIS until September, but yes, I’m ready!
Congrats!!
Thank you!
Congratulations, both of you!
Thank you!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
“You’re in love and you sleep on a giant dinosaur now.”
Is Willis just trolling us with a cornucopia of book titles?
Is there a strip in the last 8+ years that hasn’t included a potential book title?
The eventual DoA Omnibus will have to be called “A Cornucopia of Book Titles.”
Actually, it needs to be, “I Trolled Them With a Cornucopia of Book Titles.”
Ahh, I always appreciate a good meta.
Wow, Amber believes the universe is fair, or somehow gives out stuff on some moral axis?
No wonder she thinks she’s a monster, only a monster could deserve Blaine.
I mean, it’s not a cause-and-effect thing. People who think that they’re a monster will often comfort themselves with the idea that at least the universe is fair.
Amber has some messed up worldviews for sure.
(Understatement of the month)
Let’s all remember that this dinosaur had custom writing sewn into it. It probably can’t be returned.
As a dude with Asperger’s, this strip warms my heart.
You should go to a doctor, if you’re experiencing an increase in heart temperature.
Fuckface II can not be returned, Amber, so don’t even think about it!
Its funny that it wasn’t that long ago that Dina was feeling insecure about Becky’s feelings for her.
I can’t help but wonder if she might be projecting because she still is.
And I’m wondering whether becky is projecting. Dina is a rebound, becky is in love with Joyce. That has to cause some doubts, insecurities and difficulties she might project into dina.
Let’s be honest, we’d all be willing to sacrifice at least half the cast for that dinosaur.
Are there enough members in DoA’s rogues gallery to count as “half the cast”?
Is Billie in the rogue’s gallery?
Calm down, Thanos.
I resent the comparison. Thanos was an idiot.
I got that reference.
*plays Lisa Lisa’s “I Wonder If I Take You Home” on the hacked Muzak*
Yesterday’s Song.
I think Dina’s right that Becky’s feeling very insecure, but I think Dina’s not the problem so much as that Becky really hasn’t been able to not feel like a freeloader for a while, having to depend on the kindness of friends, strangers, and her new family. Does Becky feel insecure about Dina’s feelings, or her own? For who’s benefit is the big declarative gesture?
Yes.
(Mostly herself, I think, but like many insecure teenagers she projects on her partner. Se also: Walky, Dorothy)
Can’t help but picture Dina as Groo, now.
I can relate to Dina SO HARD right now

Wow. That was amazing. I can’t believe I didn’t think of LSOH for Becky before
The Obvious solution is a slipshine episode where Dina proves her love by initiating an hours long session of depraved behaviors with Becky atop the plushy
We beg the mighty Willis that he considers this idea!
I think Becky’s problem is going to be that Dina will give all the encouragement of Becky’s new employment she needs, thinking it worth it. What Becky REALLY wants to hear from Dina is she’s made a mistake and needs to quit.
I eventually imagine them having a date atop this dinosaur.
I have resisted so far…but…

I love that Amber has accepted that her life now includes a giant dinosaur.
You need to pick your battles, and if you know what’s best for you, you don’t try to separate Dina and her giant dinosaur.
As if it would even be possible to separate Dina and her giant dinosaur.
I was about to point out that, yeah, Amber has already accepted that Fuckface Jr. is staying. Even though he blocks her Transformers. The girl adapts quickly, doesn’t she?
Really its only fair after all Dina has one for her.
Dina just makes my day:)
This is impressively deep understanding of Becky’s feelings from someone who struggles as hard with matters of the hearts as Dina.
She’s such a great girlfriend <3
So Becky things she needs Robin’s money for Dina to love her, huh? Hmmmmm.
I’m not sure if this storyline ends with Becky being evil or with Becky and Dina making up and the status quo restored and everyone’s happy, but I’m pretty confident that the climax of “act 2” is going to be Robin’s poll numbers going up, Becky choosing to stick with Robin because she thinks she needs money to keep Dina, and then Becky being surprised when Dina breaks up with her over it.
I’m not sure what comic you’ve been reading where you think Becky might turn out evil or that Dina would dump her for this
Last panel Dina: “You had us in the first half, not gonna lie”
“So Becky thinks she needs Robin’s money for Dina to love her, huh?”
Why would you say that? Becky hasn’t said any such thing.
This seems like a moral dilemma for The Good Place.
I definitely saw that last panel as Dina growling: “Hands off of Dinobot!”
I have a feeling that the giant plush will be an important character later on… like the Mystery item in Mickeys Club House or whateber it was called
I ship it with Fuckface
But . . . I’m already used to calling it Fuckface Jr.
I’ve got a mental image of it becoming a silent confessor with various characters telling it their problems, doubts and secret fears.
Or just what everyone cries into for good luck on their exams. that sounds like an American College thing.
Hot dog
Hot dog
Hot diggity dog
Aw man, now I want some hot dogs!
Hol’ up Amber. Let’s not do anything rash and drastic now.
Woah slow down, Satan
At the crossroads of principles and desires.
I’m guessing that Dina will tell Becky that she doesn’t need any extravagant gifts… after this one!
A fair compromise. No point in crying over the spilt milk, forgive and forget, forgive yourself and sin no more…
Until the next time she sees a giant dino plushie.
D: HE CANNOT BE RETURNED I’VE ALREADY NAMED HIM
A: Oh, dear.
D: HIS NAME IS BARNEY
A: Whuuu?
D: AFTER BARNEY SLOANE THE BRITISH ARCHAEOLOGIST
A: Ah.
I wish I could upvote comments on this board!
Dina: “I think I have made a mistake.”
Amber: “Oh? Well, you can always take the dinosaur back.”
Dina: “…it is not that big of a mistake.”
To err is raptor, apparently.
