BUFFER WATCH
Comics are currently drawn and uploaded through:
Overly detailed (but also sorta bland) character designs, boring go-nowhere plot, Stamper, excessive and pointless swearing, dull songs, and no hook, just for starters.
Wow. Did we watch the same Hazbin Hotel?
My wife and I both loved the characters – it’s nice to have an openly bi disney princess.
Boring plot? It was the pilot episode and did the work of setting the scene.
Loved the songs.
And no hook? It had like four hooks. Only two of them landed, but still.
… I’ll give you the pointless swearing.
But yeah, gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.
My only concern is how long it takes her to make an episode.
I watched the pilot, and found myself checking the YouTube player multiple times to make sure it was set to 1.0x playback speed. I think they had two episodes’ worth of material crammed into one.
I think the writing was good, but too many of the gags are blink-and-you-miss-it moments that don’t get the payoff time they deserve before the next one is set up. The first bit with the news anchors is a good example of this issue.
I’m sure the ornate art style would work perfectly fine in a webcomic, and the stills look good, but there’s no time to take it in because it’s rushing through everything so fast. They could lose half the detail and you would barely notice; it’s a visual cacophony.
It feels like a museum tour guide on the last tour of their shift, rushing past all the nice-to-look-at things on the checklist so it can get out of there.
I think they’d have a winner on their hands if they either simplify the art design, or slow the pace down.
Yeah, the general problem is that there’s way too much bullshit going on at any given moment, and I just couldn’t care about every single thing. They also introduce a new character about every minute and a half, like they were trying to cram in the entire extended cast into the pilot.
See, I LOVE that blink-or-you-miss it shit. I remember watching Hazbin Hotel like six times when it first came out so I could puzzle out all the sight gags.
So yeah, for me, that rapidfire style is a feature, not a bug.
I’ve seen quite a but of her animation work before and I always had a fondness for it. She’s talented and puts a lot into her work. Can’t say I know jack all about her personally, but going by the more recent stuff, her posts seem fine?
Because she had an eighteen and nineteen year old character paired up together? Or because she hates John K. like any sane person? Or because she was successful? I hate people defaming badass women because they’re jealous.
She hates John K? Nice! One more reason to admire Vivzie! My only dislike about Vivzie’s posts is that she follows Shoe0nHead, a known youtube skeptic and girlfriend of the bigoted ArmoredSkeptic. Outside of that, Vivzie is an awesome artist.
Having an actual background in animation as a creator makes creating an animated show a bit easier. And even then, building out a team to animate your show is no small feat.
You do you, but I’m not gonna resent anyone for just putting in the work to create something, when the other thing we “could have had” was never on the table to begin with. (If the content is actively harmful to an oppressed group, then that’s a different matter, but I don’t think that’s the case here?)
I totally get it just not being your taste, though. That’s valid!
The animation quality/existence is the part I have the fewest complaints about, to a degree representation also (though I couldn’t get into the story enough to pay attention to representation, it seems beside the larger point)
The animation is nice. I have zero complaints about the animation quality or designs. What am I watching, though? I know that specific link isn’t helpful in that there’s no sound, but what is there that makes the characters memorable and compelling, beyond the major characters who appear in other works? It’s a disposable “story” for them, just a fleeting dream to amuse but not astound. Slapstick.
HH, I literally could not remember any character five minutes after watching it, other than Angel Dust bc LOL DRUGS, and I couldn’t get into the plot bc I already don’t like Heaven and Hell* stories (1. it’s segregation, 2. Good and Evil are relative), and then people die in Hell?? idk, you need to sell me harder… and “Don’t sing” “ok I won’t” *sings* …some of that is from reading Don Bluth’s The Art of Animation Drawing where he states and reiterates, “SONGS STOP THE MOVIE”
*this includes when they’re called the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, etc.
I just feel like, I already have a lot of shows I *want* to watch that I don’t have time for, why spend time on ones I don’t… lesson learned from Black Clover (also good animation, STORY IS TRASH, CHARACTERS ARE TRASH)
Actually, Kentucky Route 0 is prolly a better example
super pretty, technically interesting
what is the story, where is it going
am I going to remember any of the characters and events beyond “these two seem to be robots/cyborgs but it’s never spelled out” and “Chapter 5, you are a cat”
Right, and those are valid criticisms, but what does that have to do with the possibility of a Lackadaisy cartoon? This wasn’t a competition for resources. One didn’t beat out the other to get made. HH is created by an animator with experience in animation, who wrangled together a team to make an animated series. That experience makes production easier, and is part of how things get made. That’s the reality of entertainment.
Again, if it’s not for you, it’s not for you, but I dislike the comparison to some hypothetical animated version of another series that just doesn’t exist.
(This is entirely aside from from the fact that Lackadaisy’s extremely detailed rendering of values in each drawing would not translate well to animation without significant simplification, and may also very well encounter a number of the problems you described in reaction to HH re: too much clutter on the screen.)
Maybe I wasn’t clear, but I would rather watch X than Y. That doesn’t mean there’s no value in Y, just that I couldn’t find it personally, and if others love Y, cool. I just happened to feel I would rather invest *my own time* in X, regardless of the value of X inserted into that statement, and regardless of whether anyone else does the same.
The original comment was mostly, “I blew time I could have spent sleeping on hating something, whyyyyyyy, and where’s my phone”
Overthinking I wanted to avoid but too late now I guess:
Lackadaisy I know I’ll like, bc the script is more or less written
Hazbin, it was thrown at us cold, and at a busy party, and we basically couldn’t follow any of it and nothing grabbed our interest to say hey, maybe it’s good if we give it a chance, for a bunch of reasons we went over later in private
I would be equally disappointed by, say, The Trenches animated, bc that also felt significantly lacking in almost every respect. The difference would be I would know that in advance, since I read the webcomic, vs. trying to grok it on the fly.
ACTUALLY DONE NOW bc I will forget to check again before comments get locked
*Pushes up glasses* Well, judging by the way the word balloons draw the eye from top to bottom, with the path focusing on Amber’s face, one can assume she’s blushing because she is aroused, which prompts Ethan to ask if theyre enganging in coitus
See? This is what kills me. An Eagle Scout, and as prepared as I am for every occasion, I have only once had a Zoro Mask ™️ In my pocket ONCE! And that was for Halloween. How does Walky do that, just pull a mask up of his pajamas? Best I can do is the elephant joke… cause you know, pyjamma pockets.
Kudos to Ethan for wearing a Dinobot shirt. Also, you can’t kill your second personality with sleep deprivation, Amber. Even Walkyverse Joyce couldn’t get rid of Anti-Joyce because she was part of her own nature that she wanted to reject like some Persona 4 shadow. You have to accept your shadow and move on.
Maybe she’s a backdoor pilot for Billie getting a haircut? The idea was floated a couple days ago on Twitter. Personally I think it might make her look too close to Malaya. Her gigantic ponytail must cause difficult shot framing issues, but there’s got to be another way. Maybe try a bun first or something, I don’t know.
Unfortunately, the unknown lady in that Slipshine ad can’t sell me the service.
Fortunately, that’s because I already paid for it so I could read hot Billie/Ruth shower smut.
I’m not sure what got me more, Ethan’s line in the last panel, or the fact that I can’t figure out if Amber is reacting to said line, or Walky putting on the mask and gaining extra hot points. ~<3
This reminds me of when the fire alarm went in the middle of the night at my Folk high school. It turned out to be an actual fire, damaging part of the building, the night before a big concert. Even if most alarms are pranks or mistakes, you never know when it will be a real thing. So best to be on the safe side, and stay outside, Amber.
Amber is not evil. AG stalked Sal, both Amber and AG blew up at Danny, AG has dismissed Amber’s anxiety about Sal (since deciding that she is okay so clearly Amber just has to get over it), Amber saved Dorothy’s life, AG saved Becky, Amber beat up her (abusive) father.
Neither of them are perfect and Amber isn’t violent in an ‘evil’ way, she gets righteously angry, when people act in shitty ways or people are shitty, but she also gets angry over minor things because her father has made her defensive about people walking over her boundaries to the point the anger is excessive for the violation.
Amber isn’t evil for struggling to always do the right thing, she just needs serious mental health care.
I mean, I feel this, Hubby kept me up later than expected bc we were both talking shit about Hazbin Hotel
don’t @ me
also, nice callback
The fuck you have against Hazbin Hotel?!
I keep hearing about that and I’m fully convinced that exactly 50% of the internet loves it and 50% thinks it’s the worst thing ever.
Which means I can never watch it because whichever group I fall into, it’ll ruin the perfect balance.
She said DON’T @ her! You’re in big trouble now! (in Little China?)
Personally I refuse to have an opinion on Hazbin Hotel, but come on. Tell me you can at least understand why people might take umbrage.
Overly detailed (but also sorta bland) character designs, boring go-nowhere plot, Stamper, excessive and pointless swearing, dull songs, and no hook, just for starters.

Wait, she’s bi?
Gotta check to see if there’s more episodes, Mrs. Abides and I literally just watched the pilot.
I watched the pilot, and found myself checking the YouTube player multiple times to make sure it was set to 1.0x playback speed. I think they had two episodes’ worth of material crammed into one.

Yeah, I think I would have liked it more if they gave the gags a chance to land.
Then again, my tastes skew more toward King of the Hill than Rick and Morty, so I might not be part of its target demographic anyway.
Ah. That may explain some things.
See, I LOVE that blink-or-you-miss it shit. I remember watching Hazbin Hotel like six times when it first came out so I could puzzle out all the sight gags.
So yeah, for me, that rapidfire style is a feature, not a bug.
Of all the reasons to dislike hh, I didn’t even consider most of those
The author is a creep.
Yeah, I heard she drinks Diet Coke, and also drew a crappy webcomic with really gross undertones.
Pretty much anyone who was on the Internet as a teenager in the 2000s is going to have some dumb shit in their post history, if you look hard enough.
I’ve seen quite a but of her animation work before and I always had a fondness for it. She’s talented and puts a lot into her work. Can’t say I know jack all about her personally, but going by the more recent stuff, her posts seem fine?

Granted, the pilot needs some work. It could use some trimming, and some less fussy character design. Alastor NEEDS some color contrast. Way too red.
What is this “Hazbin hotel” anyway?
A Youtube adult cartoon.
Think “Invader Zim” with swears.
More like Cool World Beetlejuice
Like, idk, I just think a Lackadaisy cartoon is a better use of adult animation time

It’s like watching… unfortunately I can’t find the original video I was thinking of, but something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzZFsMCAWvI
The animation is nice. I have zero complaints about the animation quality or designs. What am I watching, though? I mean then the creator is more than willing to crowdfund, and animate a Lackadaisy cartoon if she wants? That’s what Vivzi did.
OOH – thanks – didn’t hear about that – I haven’t vivziepop’d in AGES!
Can’t tell if Amber’s blushing in the last panel because of Ethan’s comment, or because she’s turned on by Walky-As-Superhero.
[headcanon]She’s blushing because she’s recognized that Walky is wearing one of her old Amazi-Girl masks.[/headcanon]
*Pushes up glasses* Well, judging by the way the word balloons draw the eye from top to bottom, with the path focusing on Amber’s face, one can assume she’s blushing because she is aroused, which prompts Ethan to ask if theyre enganging in coitus
That was my read on it, too.
¿Por que no los dos?
Her eyes have gotten huge and she’s pursing her lips. I think that’s arousal, not embarrassment.
Nightguy is always prepared for anything… that’ll make him into even more of a dork.
about time Ethan returned the favor https://www.dumbingofage.com/2018/comic/book-8/04-of-mike-and-men/brunch/
Dumbing of Age, Book 10 : You Two Are Fucking, Aren’t You
Dumbing of Age Book 11: All Of You Are Fucking
DoA Book 10: You Can Last Ten Minutes!
How much you want to be that Amber’s phone is in one of her pockets?
Today’s strip is sponsored by Fisher Wallace Stimulators–“the only technology approved by the FDA to treat sleep disorders.”
Amber’s phone is in dead Mike’s hand, hidden in Amber’s closet with Amazigirl’s superhero outfit.
Aww they have the same fetish
Kudos to Ethan for wearing a Dinobot shirt. Also, you can’t kill your second personality with sleep deprivation, Amber. Even Walkyverse Joyce couldn’t get rid of Anti-Joyce because she was part of her own nature that she wanted to reject like some Persona 4 shadow. You have to accept your shadow and move on.
Or shoot it in the face.
Or nuke it from orbit.
“It’s the only way to be sure”
I mean when you act like THAT.
Pajama capes are so hot this year
Gotta admit, that last panel made me laugh out loud. Hard.
Also noticed Amber blushing as Walky put the mask on.
you never know when 10 minutes is gonna turn into 10 hours. be safe. bring your phone
If my house was actually on fire, I would grab my phone. It’s got all my passwords & account access & insurance numbers and everything.
Exactly how I feel about my tablet.
Is the Slipshine ad using new art? I don’t remember that particular image before.
yes
Who’s the character? I don’t recognize them
Billy with her hair up it looks like.
They exist only in the ad. Ain’t even picked out a name yet!
Unfortunately, the unknown lady in that Slipshine ad can’t sell me the service.
Fortunately, that’s because I already paid for it so I could read hot Billie/Ruth shower smut.
THEY’D FUCKING BETTER BE.
Finally!
Now Ethan can realize there is no reason to stop him from moving on Danny
ahem. . .
OH THEY FUCKIN
What? They’re just talking to each other.
The return of Nightguy. Somethings are inevitable.
And some things…are…Iron Man.
For some reason, my copy of Endgame always stops after that line, so I’ve never seen the ending.
For everything else, there’s MasterCard
I am with Amber, Nightguy’s kinda cute.
Amber: “Not YET, Ethan. Stupid fire alarm.”
Don’t forget his mild-mannered alter ego, the Duke of Thingley!
Sorry, this was supposed to be a reply to the next top-level comment down. Damn touchscreens!
wheres that nightguy tag tho /s
I just want to.share that I finally subscribed to slipshine. Where do I go to discuss this matter with other subscribers?
Nightguy is the best superhero.
Judging from amber’s expression in the last panel, I’m not sure she can last ten minutes.
Walky sure knows how to show them a good time.
hahahaha Ethan got it
Also someone went from Angry to Horny very quickly
Depends on how you define it, really, if all they’ve ever reached is third base.
Ethan may be making a general statement, but they are in the early stages of sexy times right now.
Wait, where’d Walky disappear to in that last panel?
Amber’s face in last panel is priceless♡. On the other hand, Walky that wait for met Amazigirl in his siderkick costume is both sweet and scary.
Aww, Night Guy doesn’t get a tag.
Sorry Amber…you are kind of the …evil personality….the hero personality might be violent to but not in a vengative evil way
AG’s the one who stalked Sal multiple times and the one who lost her shit at Danny.
You. I like YOU.
Walky isn’t Ethan’s type, is he?
Now Walky just needs a flashlight and a limited-edition Pajama Man all-metal lunchbox to complete the look.
Amber panel 4: Jeez Walky, stop fucking arou-
Amber panel 5: RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS
