While we’re having this moment. I like to think about how recent developments show how special the thing these two had between them was.
Dorothy is very high maintenance, much more than Linda. Yet when she found out about Walky having a bit of trouble in math her opinion of him didn’t change, unlike Walkys own mother who began switch up her attitude the minute he started to stumble once.
Linda’s conditional love is the exact reason why Walky was terrified to tell Dorothy that he was doing poorly in math.
He was so surprised and so moved when Dorothy didn’t react by instantly dumping him, but by trying to help him, instead.
They really did have a lot of what each other needed.
This inanimate carbon rod i tripped over on the sidewalk, causing me to permanently break my knee, and at the moment it happened a policeman walked by, assumed i had stolen the inanimate carbon rod, and so arrested me, causing me to spend ten years in prison… is better than Linda.
That’s not a fair comparison. That Inanimate Carbon Rod just happens to be the hardest working employee at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. I hear they even saved Buzz Aldrin, Race Banyon, and some other guy from dying in a space shuttle. They’re a national hero.
That’s not really what high-maintenance means of a person, and I don’t think it’s true? Dorothy’s high expectations for herself don’t directly make a relationship harder. Her being busy is a potential issue, but that’s something you and a partner work out.
Dorothy is *not* high maintenance. She has dreams and goals, but they are *her* dreams and goals. High maintenance partners are ones that make frequent and excessive demands of their partners. HM are about getting their partner to do stuff for them, not about what they can do for themselves or their partners.
I feel you may have been mistaking people wanting them to get back together for people wanting them to fuck. I mean, if they get back together there goes any chance of Walky and Amber getting back together and I gather more than a few people want Dorothy and Joyce to hook up.
What surprised me was how many people seemed think it was a done deal. As soon as she went to kiss him they were obviously going to bone.
Not everyone thought it would be a good idea, but there was a lot of talk about Lucy and “were on a break” shenanigans.
If it’s any consolation, I really get the feeling it’s suggesting they are gonna do platonic friends stuff after this. Hookup energy has been dispelled, walky has come through as A Friend with his friend in need.
Dina mauls Mary, Carla and Charlie go on a multi-state crime spree, Galasso becomes the majority shareholder and CEO of McDonald’s, and Blowjob Cat releases a critically acclaimed spoken word album.
We do not, however, see the crime spree on-panel; just a random headline or two about it in the background. We find out about it three weeks later, when the cops wake Booster up at 3 AM to ask where their sister lives, and they go back to bed and make Walky deal with it. Then after the cops spend all day waiting in the lobby of the wrong dorm, we find out that they actually already arrested Charlie two days earlier.
Completely unrelated but taffy I love your grav so much. Bc part of why I adore Lucy so much is bc she was introduced around the same time I was writing a pathfinder character (never used), a tiefling with almost the same personality, who looks a lot like that. Like ik its bc of people acting like she’s the antichrist but it’s a funny coincidence
She needed this hug bad, and hell, he probably did, too. No one believes in her more than he does, and through any twists and turns their friendship has taken, there’s obviously a lot of love there.
Ohmygod, I love this moment. It’s like getting me emotional.
Also, my shipper heart badly wants them to get back together. Or at least be closer friends. Like, the sort of friends that isn’t quite platonic but also isn’t sexual and might be romantic but like… not in ‘that’ way. I just want so many good things for them and to feel safe and happy and supported, and it feels like they can be really good at being that for each other when the other is tuned into it. I want this hug to last as long as it takes to make both of them feel better.
I guess a “loving” friendship. I’ve never had that before (not without it being a relationship), but you can feel the love these two have for each other through the panels. Romantic or platonic, it’s just very sweet
One of my particular pet peeves with western culture is the erasure of philial love. Especially among men. Can’t love your friends! That’s *gay*. Fucking hell.
Like, such a deeply rooted thing that philial has changed from meaning “the love for your friends” to “the love a child feels for their parent”
I think this is a case of Greek and Latin both getting in things with similar sounding words
Philia is from the Greek word of love Philia
Filial comes from the Latin words filius and filia meaning son and daughter. So literally sonly/daughterly love.
Maybe I’m just hanging out in the right circles, but I see this complaint way more often than I see the thing it’s complaining about. I love my male friends and I don’t recall ever experiencing any negative consequences for saying as much.
God yeah I love this scene so much – Dorothy’s finally getting a break after just all the awfulness she’s been going through. As much as my shipper heart still holds a candle for the two of them getting back together, I’m honestly happy they’re finally just having a supportive moment as friends.
I’ll be honest, when Raidah insulted her, I was furious that Walky didn’t say anything (yes, he was with Lucy at the time), I thought all was lost for Dorothy, but seeing this…wow
The interaction between these two is wonderful, I’ve said it before, it’s too early to say anything, but…..(:
Proof positive that exes can be friends…But in most darkly possible fashion I expect Lucy to see this, assume the worst of Walky ESPECIALLY after everything that happened with Walky’s parents.
That’d feel really amateurish, honestly, like I am sure there might be fallout from Lucy knowing Dorothy encouraged Walky to pursue her, but DoA doesn’t tend to do the “sitcom misunderstanding” plot device.
I know he just (probably) broke up with Lucy, but I really want Dorothy and Walky to get back together. Maybe I’m biased, but they seem good for each other.
Ethan goes into the common room at night just to hang out I. The peace and quiet, but it’s dark and he doesn’t notice yet. When he looks to his left, he sees Asher sitting on the couch, wearing his winter coat with the hood up. For a couple of seconds, nothing happens, and then Asher suddenly springs off the couch and tackles him to the ground.
Ah yes, a tangible representation of why this is still my favourite ship for both of them. Not just because of balance but because they CARE so much about each other.
One day they’ll be in the White House streaming dexter and monkey master before bed.
I know this comic supposedly ends after the first year, but I really want to see Dorothy and Walky watching cartoons in bed in The White House. Maybe we’ll get an epilogue?
I know it sounds better to be someone’s Stone Cold Stunner than to be their Rock Bottom, but I’d rather be the Bottom because the Stunner always looked like it hurt more; people practically did backflips with their neck after getting hit with one.
Walky has really internalized what happened with Lucy. It would be so easy for him to go along the path of least resistance and fall back in with Dorothy but he’s chosen a harder path. He also isn’t going to abandon Dorothy when she needs him just because their relationship is complicated.
He might still be trying to please everyone and it could still blow up in his face but he is at least putting some thought into how his actions affect others. He’s trying to do it in a better, more considerate way.
I feel like he would always act like this.
Last time he talked to Dorothy, she was trying to get him to end his relationship so that she could get with him.
She did tell him she was having trouble, but that was his first hint of seeing it and he believed that she would rise above.
This time, after seeing her at karaoke, after being told by Dina and Becky that she has a problem, after her thinking he’s coming to pity her, and then her kissing him and saying she can’t hit bottom correctly, he hugs her and makes her laugh.
I see very little to attribute this to the situation with Lucy. Walky has always cared about his friends, most clearly seen when Jennifer climbed in his bed and when Carla outed Jennifer and Ruth’s relationship.
As for him not responding romantically/sexually to Dorothy, aside from what I just mentioned, Walky does not know his status with Lucy.
Even if we compare the situation to getting with Amber, Walky thought his relationship with Dorothy would end soon, he got drunk with Jason after it did actually end, then he spent the next day tweeting Amber, which was the only thing that made him feel better, and he still hesitated to get with Amber.
If nothing else, his confusion about his relationship with Lucy is more than enough for him not to go that route.
This strip is unbelievably sweet. I don’t imagine this will fix anything going on with Dorothy, but also, I feel like it may help, even if it’s only a little bit. More than anything, I think this is the kind of thing she needs.
@Willis: The bottom Ad-banner makes navigating the side on a PC browser challenging. The “Post Comment”-Button is barely visible and if you navigate the Tags the next-page/previous page and numbers are completely hidden behind it. Is it possible to move it to the side?
This strip sure does an excellent job reminding me why I still can’t fully let go of Dorothy/Walky, even if I know from a narrative perspective it’d be pretty tough to bring them back together romantically… it’s just so sweet.
Perhaps Walky and Dorothy will get romantic/sexual again at some point. They could, in time, be a very powerful compliment for each other; but not now and not yet.
they managed to get the arms and thighs to be different grays, which I wasn't sure they'd be able to do, the way the mold's set up
though maybe they're just producing a lot of extra thighs and/or arms in the wrong colors and throwing those away, i dunno
Cops are overgrown children cosplaying War, with all the rest of us forced into their stupid, childish game without our consent, consuming vast funds from the public treasury and ruining lives by the hundreds of thousands.
unknown@collie.bsky.social ⋅ 2d
I cannot get over these cops wearing night vision to arrest a dude on a Southwest Airlines flight in broad daylight.
a woman posted a pic in a group chat of a baby turkey she bought thinking it was a chicken. She captioned the pic "IS THIS A TURKEY?!?"
Anyway, I haven't been here because I've been yelling IS THIS A TURKEY at everything. You should try it
y'ever figure, hey, i should put joyce in bisexual flag colors for this storyline, but you also figure, hrm, that might telegraph things 8 months in advance, so you... add orange stripes and... it works, somehow it works, nobody points out the pink/purple/blue
Jonathan Joss being shot outside his home while protecting his husband after being sent a threatening and distressing package is WHY we need Pride
It's 2025 and people are still being shot and killed for being queer
This is why we march and why we fight
While we’re having this moment. I like to think about how recent developments show how special the thing these two had between them was.
Dorothy is very high maintenance, much more than Linda. Yet when she found out about Walky having a bit of trouble in math her opinion of him didn’t change, unlike Walkys own mother who began switch up her attitude the minute he started to stumble once.
“She’s better than Linda,” is some awfully faint praise.
But not inaccurate.
Linda’s conditional love is the exact reason why Walky was terrified to tell Dorothy that he was doing poorly in math.
He was so surprised and so moved when Dorothy didn’t react by instantly dumping him, but by trying to help him, instead.
They really did have a lot of what each other needed.
— and still do. Lookit that hug-and-quip, that is quality.
THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING!
Ok maybe this exact moment isn’t the right moment but like.
These two are so good for each other.
And almost universal.
That’s not even a low bar to clear, it’s a piece of tape on the floor.
Dorothy would have to bottom-out way harder than this to get underneath Linda
She is bottoming perhaps exactly hard enough to get underneath Linda’s son though
That’s a tavern in Hades.
I thought we were comparing Linda at her best to Dorothy at her worst.
How is she “very high maintenance?”
Not the best phraseology, but she is, was, very driven, and puts its own load on a relationship.
That’s not really what high-maintenance means of a person, and I don’t think it’s true? Dorothy’s high expectations for herself don’t directly make a relationship harder. Her being busy is a potential issue, but that’s something you and a partner work out.
She’s a stoner and an electrician.
Dorothy is *not* high maintenance. She has dreams and goals, but they are *her* dreams and goals. High maintenance partners are ones that make frequent and excessive demands of their partners. HM are about getting their partner to do stuff for them, not about what they can do for themselves or their partners.
“next, bottoms up”
We can but hope.
Oh, you were so close! You only had to say, instead, “We can butt hope.”
i LOVE Dot’s
here
This was the correct move. I was somewhat put off by the number of people yesterday who didnt see what a bad idea rushing back to walky was.
I think you may be mistaking “didn’t see” for “didn’t care”.
I don’t particularly care whether or not it’s a bad idea – I’m just here for popcorn and bad decisions.
I just didn’t want Walky to brusquely reject her again and give her the bums rush. This is nice. She is even laughing for the first time in ages.
Yeah, which I’m turn makes me think this wasn’t the worst of decisions either. Dude makes her relax, even in the worst of moods.
Here here! *munch munch*
Is that the popcorn eating or the face in cooch munching?
¿Por que dos?
But you do recognize that it is a bad decision, at least.
Now there’s a book title if ever I’ve seen one…
I feel you may have been mistaking people wanting them to get back together for people wanting them to fuck. I mean, if they get back together there goes any chance of Walky and Amber getting back together and I gather more than a few people want Dorothy and Joyce to hook up.
Hey now, threesomes are a thing! We can hope!
This comic has been going for 14 years almost, and we haven’t seen even one threesome. It’s offensive.
What surprised me was how many people seemed think it was a done deal. As soon as she went to kiss him they were obviously going to bone.
Not everyone thought it would be a good idea, but there was a lot of talk about Lucy and “were on a break” shenanigans.
Any opinion I’m going to have about this moment is going to depend entirely on what happens in the upcoming strips.
We’re going to cut away. Was that not clear.
Hoping to be wrong.
Maybe. I’m more just saying that I don’t think I can gauge how I feel about this until I know where it’s going.
That’s true regardless of how soon this gets followed up on
If it’s any consolation, I really get the feeling it’s suggesting they are gonna do platonic friends stuff after this.

That’s oddly specific. Did that happen to you?
… more than once, we mean?

We aim to please.
Best comment
Darn. I was really shipping Walky with Blowjob Cat as his next step on the relationship development journey.
Yesterday’s strip is history, tomorrow’s strip is a mystery, but today’s strip shows that “insert character” is a monster
Lol. I thought for a sec Dorothy meant she didn’t know how to bottom. Iwas like, yeah girl! Good for you!
God, I love these two.
She needed this hug bad, and hell, he probably did, too. No one believes in her more than he does, and through any twists and turns their friendship has taken, there’s obviously a lot of love there.
Right words, Walky! See ya getting better in this
Well, you don’t want to bottom-out in February. Save that level of skin exposure until sometime warmer.
(… oh, right, it’s January in-comic. Same story.)
woops, didn’t mean to report
but rather to comment that Leap Day comes about once every couple decades, comic time
Reported for falsely submitting a report.
Reported for the thrill of battle.
Aw, jeez, Dorothy.
Not what she wants right now but probably more in line with what she needs. this made me feel things.
Awwww, look at Walky using his goofball powers for the greater good!
The man is a damn professional
Sometimes what you need isn’t reassurance.
Just compassion.
Pity you say?
No. Sympathy.
(and kindness.)
Not a big fan of people seeing compassion as pity.
Big agree.
I didn’t see the word “pity” anywhere in that comment, so no.
Ohmygod, I love this moment. It’s like getting me emotional.

Yes, quite lovely. Really, the best possible outcome so far.
You might enjoy looking into the ancient greek words for love.

One of my particular pet peeves with western culture is the erasure of philial love. Especially among men. Can’t love your friends! That’s *gay*. Fucking hell.

Agreed.
I mean it’s not going to happen, but still.

She was right to walk away, but the truth is that girl should stop rushing things and calm down.
That’d feel really amateurish, honestly, like I am sure there might be fallout from Lucy knowing Dorothy encouraged Walky to pursue her, but DoA doesn’t tend to do the “sitcom misunderstanding” plot device.
I don’t feel it would be indicative of the strip’s writing so much as indicative of who Lucy is as a character.
Perhaps instead she’s distressed because she does understand this moment and realizes: “I wanted what they have.”
Okay, but consider: *Raidah* sees it, and tells Lucy.
behind the tree, Dina is currently restraining and muffling Lucy
I know he just (probably) broke up with Lucy, but I really want Dorothy and Walky to get back together. Maybe I’m biased, but they seem good for each other.
Hugging power supreme
Dorothy might hang until Spring Break. Maybe.
Awwww
What the fuck is Slenderfebruary and where can I buy the T-shirt?
ngl my first thought was those old school slenderverse series lol

Marble Pornets.
WALKY YOU MAGNIFICENT SON OF A bongo.
He has done wonderfully.
The lowercase at the end reminds me of when a YouTuber is shouting and then suddenly changes to a completely neutral tone for one word.
Ah yes, a tangible representation of why this is still my favourite ship for both of them. Not just because of balance but because they CARE so much about each other.

I know this comic supposedly ends after the first year, but I really want to see Dorothy and Walky watching cartoons in bed in The White House. Maybe we’ll get an epilogue?
It’s in the epilogue in your heart.
My Garbage Barge has sprung yet another leak!
Also I’m probably reading to much into this but I’d hate to think I was someone’s rock bottom.
I feel it’s more in the “throwing yourself at your ex” sense than anything about Walky himself
Being a rock bottom sounds painful for the top :V
I know it sounds better to be someone’s Stone Cold Stunner than to be their Rock Bottom, but I’d rather be the Bottom because the Stunner always looked like it hurt more; people practically did backflips with their neck after getting hit with one.

Good on you Walky
This strip is unbelievably sweet. I don’t imagine this will fix anything going on with Dorothy, but also, I feel like it may help, even if it’s only a little bit. More than anything, I think this is the kind of thing she needs.
Just don’t tell him you’ve already bottomed-out before by getting hammered with Ruth’s minis.
Maybe Dorothy won’t be lunch real soon, but Jenny’s senses might be tingling even more now.
Will the author follow this up with a quick cutaway, an awkward Lucy interaction, or Sarah drive-by snarking at them? Place your bets.
Ah. This reminds me of one of the best strips in DOA history.
A decade ago? Oh I don’t like that.

God damn this actually got very emotional
Awww man, Walky is so good.
This strip sure does an excellent job reminding me why I still can’t fully let go of Dorothy/Walky, even if I know from a narrative perspective it’d be pretty tough to bring them back together romantically… it’s just so sweet.
<333 This strip is genuinely so sweet
Ah, Walky. Here walks a dude who is genuinely trying to be a good guy, and he seems to be making much less of a hash of it lately.
Listen to him, Dorothy. Walky has Garbage Roof experience. He knows how to bottom. I mean, bottom out.
Dorothy and Walky always seemed like a couple where she directed them in bed, and not just because Dorothy’s more experienced.
Dorothy is the kind of girl who’d Top from the bottom.
Still my favorite couple.
These two are so perfect for each other. My heart.
*quietly* yayyyyyyyyyyyyy
I was prepared for bad decisions all around but this is actually really nice
He gets to stand up for himself in a mature way, and she gets empathy and permission to make mistakes
It’s nice
Walky, you dropped this:
I have to admit, this is a beautiful scene. It warms the heart.

Maybe it’s just the heightened emotions from moving house, but this one really gets me.
Perhaps Walky and Dorothy will get romantic/sexual again at some point. They could, in time, be a very powerful compliment for each other; but not now and not yet.
oh how far they’ve come

So, “Favorite Mistake” is what’s playing on the hacked Muzak here, right?
But have you actually tried bottoming?
