Looking through his newly tagged and established archive, his very first appearance involves him calling Danny gay and him and his buddies about to beat him up unprovoked…So I guess he’s just kind of always been an asshole. It’s kind of interesting he somehow morphed from a stereotypical jock type complete with letterman jacket to self identifying as an incel. Six months of college really did a number on this guy. I guess getting regularly beaten by women does stuff to your mental.

Interesting that Incelerator recognizes Dina and not Joyce considering they were both part of the kidnapping and Dina’s whole gimmick is not being noticed. Maybe his goggles give him advantage on perception checks.
I think he’s fixating on her because she’s the smallest, and theoretically the weakest link.
Joyce carved a chunk out of his buddy’s face, while Jocelyn is clearly related to her, Joe is a buff dude three times his side, and Becky is clearly of Irish descent, and thus will devour his soul after ripping off his leg and beating him with it. Thus the dinosaur is the “safest” target.
Maybe they’re actually in some classes together if he’s saying ‘too good at too many things’ rather than only being into dino facts, or something happened recently where she got picked over him grades/achievement wise?
You know I was going to ask what’s this guy’s villain origin story. Like did he date a girl that far more skilled and talented then him who then picked a hobby that involved rollers skates and then she realized she was out of his league?

That went from pathetic and bad to pathetically bad in no time. Joe will take this guy out. Not ruling out the possibility that one of the girls will be faster. Campus security may be the third (or the fourth) to arrive at the scene.
I suppose we’re meant to be shocked, appalled and offended that Dina was infringed upon, but honestly this guy has all the intimidation factor of a my litte pony villain, not even one of the season-finale double episodes; but a one-episode pest.

If Dina’s neck suddenly extends three feet and she bites him on the nose, I will feel a momentary spike of sympathy for the Incelerator. It will pass, but I still don’t want to feel that.
And honestly this is what I meant a couple of days ago when I said this whole character really doesn’t do it for me: because incel/MGTW/PUA types don’t dress up in silly costumes and say silly things in a crowded cafeteria to someone in front of all her friends (one of whom was already getting confrontational).
They’re cowards, so they wait to corner someone alone and then tell her (usually her) that women deserve to be raped and pushed into the garbage, often because they want to get a reaction, they want to make someone else feel like shit so they themselves can feel big and powerful.
I won’t feel any catharsis from seeing this guy get decked tomorrow or in the next few strips, it will be a hollow gesture, just like his entire character.
I did feel catharsis and relief when I saw Ryan get a glass to the face, followed by a bat; because his actions did closely follow the actions of rapists in real life. He was a scary, believable character, which lent a lot of weight to his actions and how they affected the people he targeted.
see the problem is that the main reason anyone cares about incels at all is because their hate group has inspired more than one mass murder event. if they were just idiots then they wouldn’t be so prominent

i think part of the whole deal is that this is a comic universe where actual costumed heroes and villains exist, specifically around this campus. he also happened to use to be a lackey for one mention costumed villain, and it makes sense that one of the many impressionable college-aged goons that blaine hired would seek to try to emulate him in some way. he isn’t mean to be an intimidating representation of real-life harassment like ryan was, he’s meant to be a joking nod towards the absurdity of some of the setting’s features while also poking fun at the people of that particular “ideological persuasion” who *do* try to start shit when the cards are very stacked against them. assholes can be scary because some of them get you when they’re vulnerable, but sometimes assholes just don’t have as much bite as they think they do.

I have a nagging thought that it can’t be this easy. A few people have mentioned that this is not how dangerous incels act, and they’re right. This feels like a setup, designed to get one or more of our heroes expelled.

That’s a discharitable take. My personal experience is that many women are taught, as Joyce was, that confrontation is a sin and they should be meek. I have a nagging thought that it can’t be this easy. A few people have mentioned that this is not how dangerous incels act, and they’re right. This feels like a setup, designed to get one or more of our heroes expelled.

Smacking the tray out of Dina’s hands was both assault and a clear enough threat to her person that she can definitely use the “self-defense” argument in court, as long as her response is not excessive (i.e. a punch to the the solar plexus). Indiana has pretty permissive self-defense laws.

That’s a discharitable take. My personal experience is that many women are taught, as Joyce was, that confrontation is a sin and they should be meek. The ‘no, don’t’ can be just as performative and maladjusted as the bravado of their partners. There’s an expectation, often explicit, that men will do all the dirty work so women can remain pure and clean. Example: mom makes excuses for people mean to her and leaves it up to others to look out for her, then gets upset when no one wants to play white night for her. I’m sure it’s scary when unwanted ‘help’ happens, but this behavior doesn’t come from nowhere.
