I maintain that there is no better feeling in the world than waking up thinking you have work or school, then realizing it’s a weekend/holiday and you can just roll over and go back to sleep.
nope. noooooope. everytime when i have those, my heart rate skyrocks when i wake up, and when i realize i dont have to go ,i am way to shaken to get to sleep again. do not like that at all.
When we were young, my sister used to specifically request that she be woken up “on time” if there was a school delay or closure. She wanted to be able to think, “Ah, yes, I get to go back to sleep” and curl back under the blankets.
Maybe its when you get older it feels bad, my weekend off work just ended & I spent one of the days doing nothing but SLEEP & I just felt horrible afterwards.
I appreciate this nice, slow start to everyone’s day. No drama, no waking up and immediately worrying about some new nonsense, just characters waking up and getting ready for their day.
It feels fucking fantastic, which is why sometimes when I’m depressed I sleep in all day because then I don’t have to deal with the world or even get out of bed
this is the thing with a lot of “depressed person things” and people mistake going easy on yourself for a bit for a particular symptom
it’s not like taking a day off work means you have the flu but you’re probably gonna do that if you have the flu
“My mind spun for a second before it drifted, and in that second I knew that of all pleasures—a drink of cold water when you are thirsty, liquor when you are not, sex, a cigarette after many days without one—there is none of them can compare with sleep. Sleep is best. . . .”
It kinda looks like Tony’s room is the exact opposite in energy of Ruth’s room. Like the inverse of her room. The other side of the coin. I hope people get what I’m talking about. Try to find a strip in Ruth’s room. You’ll see.
This closely resembles my recent covid experience. I was sleeping in all day because I was too fatigued from being sick to do much else but it was ducking dantastic
Again, not by 20 surely? I have lifelong devastating insomnia, so I’ll admit I don’t know for sure what average people’s sleep is like in their 20s, but I feel like that kind of struggle happens a long while after 20.
Horribly offended here that Sarah gets to sleep in. I didn’t get to sleep in, neither should she. Plus, DoA’s timescale means that she’ll be sleeping in for at least the first week or two of May, which is totally unfair.
slept on my stomach primarily till regularily sharing a bed with my wife. shifted to side sleeping on my left to take less space up (the wife barrel rolls in her sleep tking up less space meant less likely to be woken up by being rolled onto lol) a discovery of a 27degree curve to the left in my spine at 40 has meant learning to sleep on my right side or face the possibility of pain that requires iv morphine to handle (the paramedic shot me up with 2 doses of fentanyl and it did NOTHING) has been fun
I believe people who aren’t depressed tend to get enough sleep on a regular basis, which makes them unable to sleep more even if they have an opportunity to do so.
I have 3 kids… I don’t know how long it will take to catch up on my sleep deficits but given I still average fewer than 6 hours’ sleep a night it isn’t happening yet…
Sarah is discovering advanced perfect sleep (excess pillows, covers that smell like a person you find attractive, lack of need to go anywhere or do anything)
I have the kind of depression where you almost never sleep more than a few hours at a time. I’d kill for eight hours of uninterrupted sleep that didn’t involve major pharmaceuticals.
Sarah’s not fully Up™ yet and Joyce is in another castle. Let’s not draw any unhinged or dangerous conclusions that will erode the foundations of society just yet.
You know who else didsn’t claimed that? The weatherman this morning. Of course, he also didn’t claim that lying in bed all day wasn’t a sign of depression. I mean, if we’re just randomly pointing out when people don’t say things other people said.
why is nobody mad is this even the dumbing of age comments section
I’ll do it myself man I’m getting the shakes
“you’re all harmfully stereotyping depression and also infantalising other rachel” – Ess Trawman
for real though, cute comic glad sarah is happy
This is still my favorite starter pack because it makes me feel like the living dead.

Remember Keenspot? Blank Label Comics? Big Panda!? Congrats, you're very old! And so are we.
The WEBCOMIC OLD HEADS starter pack is a great way to follow all your favorite 2000s-era webcomic writers and artists on Bluesky with a single click.
Now let's get you back to bed, gam-gam.
rachel from dumbing of age by @damnyouwillis.bsky.social! her intense, judgmental, self-righteous, grudge-holding ass is my favorite lmao. she has a really strong sense of justice but goes overboard with it BUT she means well!!

kids are watching a pokemon episode where they're joining some adventurers who're taking a submarine down to a not-titanic-but-definitely-the-titanic and welp g'bye ash, sorry, you're gonna die now, watch the news
Science fiction is basically about naming things after real astronomy which is basically about naming things after Roman mythology which is basically about pretending that you named things from Greek mythology which is about straightforwardly describing the gods on a real mountain you can hike to
Check out this later Transformers G1 scale chart I recently found in an auction. I always thought they were the same height but Blaster towers over Soundwave.
While stretch and squash has always been harder with CGI animation (especially in the 90's), leading to animation that's very stiff in SOME ways, check out how Quickstrike jerks forward a hair before jerking himself back.
Skilled animators worked on Beast Wars and it shows, despite the limitations.
M Sipher@msipher.bsky.social ⋅ 3d
I really want y'all to take this in if you haven't seen BW. The amount of expression Mainframe could get out of some *incredibly* inhuman faces, mixed with body language, is astounding even today.
see, Sarah GETS IT ^-^
*plays “Relaxing on the Beach” from Sailor Moon CD on hacked muzak*
It helps that Sara has recently “gotten it”, if you know what I mean.
I’ve never been so envious of a fictional character.
The pillows? The presumably good sex? Or is it that hard to take a morning off for yourself?
Its only depression if you sleep in everyday. All day. And do nothing else.
Can confirm it’s true.
It’s only depression if it comes from the Depression region, otherwise it’s just sparkly malaise.
Mine’s gone flat.
same. post excertional malaise is NOT sparkly at all unfortunately.
I aspire to this level of cozy.
I maintain that there is no better feeling in the world than waking up thinking you have work or school, then realizing it’s a weekend/holiday and you can just roll over and go back to sleep.
Pure bliss.
Especially when you’ve had the “Late for school/work nightmare” before waking up
Nothing more relaxing than waking up to remember that you actually quit that job twenty years ago.
nope. noooooope. everytime when i have those, my heart rate skyrocks when i wake up, and when i realize i dont have to go ,i am way to shaken to get to sleep again. do not like that at all.
…except on those occasions when half an hour later you suddenly think “Nope, right the first time!”
(Just me? Okay, then.)
When we were young, my sister used to specifically request that she be woken up “on time” if there was a school delay or closure. She wanted to be able to think, “Ah, yes, I get to go back to sleep” and curl back under the blankets.
I SEE NO LIE HERE
a lie-in, perhaps, but that’s different.
She’s not sleeping in really. She’s just finally… FINALLY! getting to relax and feel good and loved.
She speaks the truth!
Maybe its when you get older it feels bad, my weekend off work just ended & I spent one of the days doing nothing but SLEEP & I just felt horrible afterwards.
The trick is to sleep until you wake up naturally and well rested.
I appreciate this nice, slow start to everyone’s day. No drama, no waking up and immediately worrying about some new nonsense, just characters waking up and getting ready for their day.
It’s all in the why’s, Sarah, all in the why’s.
All in the wise? I didn’t realize you thought so highly of Sarah.
I can confirm that if you’re sleep deprived, sleeping in feels like heaven.
It feels fucking fantastic, which is why sometimes when I’m depressed I sleep in all day because then I don’t have to deal with the world or even get out of bed
Yeah, depressed people do it because it’s fantastic, at least for a couple days. Starts to feel awful after too many though.
this is the thing with a lot of “depressed person things” and people mistake going easy on yourself for a bit for a particular symptom
it’s not like taking a day off work means you have the flu but you’re probably gonna do that if you have the flu
Agreed
I don’t know why, when adult, I used to sleep with some pillows, specially between legs.
Helps support your spine.
Helps support your spine even better if there’s an anime hottie printed on the pillow.
I like how this formulation seems to imply that you’re now no longer an adult.
Teach me your secrets!
“My mind spun for a second before it drifted, and in that second I knew that of all pleasures—a drink of cold water when you are thirsty, liquor when you are not, sex, a cigarette after many days without one—there is none of them can compare with sleep. Sleep is best. . . .”
― Roger Zelazny, This Immortal
Maybe I should get a few more body pillows. Cheaper than another mattress topper, with more “texture”.
happy sarah comix. we see the smile
If you have the privilege of sleeping in it’s truly a blessing. I love seeing Sarah genuinely happy.
She’s recharging from late night sexytimes…
but it’s barely the morning, still
It kinda looks like Tony’s room is the exact opposite in energy of Ruth’s room.
I wouldn’t mind sleeping all day if I didn’t have anything else to do that day. But most days I have stuff to do.
She’s right, you know.
“Body…allergic…to…happiness…shutting down…”
I used to feel like that before they gave me the right meds…
well lack of motivation to do anything is one of the symptoms of depression
but you could also be a procrastinator lol
Hmm, yes, very wise.
Sarah is finally truly at peace. You love to see it.
It’s not a sign of depression, it’s a sign that YOU ARE GETTING OLD!
She’s 20, I know people try to convince women that they’re “old” incredibly early, but surely that insanity hasn’t extended to 20yo’s, right?
I think it’s more when you’re a kid you can pull an all nighter and be just fine the next day. That goes away so so fast
Again, not by 20 surely? I have lifelong devastating insomnia, so I’ll admit I don’t know for sure what average people’s sleep is like in their 20s, but I feel like that kind of struggle happens a long while after 20.
Sarah’s a spry and spregged young woman of but twenty summers. She can sleep a couple of extra hours without crumbling to dust from age.
I’m 32 and it hasn’t happened yet. Some people are weak and will not survive the winter.
Alright gang, this is a tough one but I know we can discourse this to at least 200 comments, I’ll start
Sleeping face down? What weird behaviour! #cancelSarahforsleepingfacedown
Even facetiously, I can’t muster up the slightest complaint about this strip. It’s just nice.
*wearing a coaches outfit, throwing my hat on the ground in frustration*
(It is nice)
I sleep on my side, but if I’m halfway awake, and I can’t get back to sleep then I’ll rest on my front while I finish waking up.
I have to keep moving all night or my body starts yelling at me and I get really warm and then everything aches all tbe next day
This is me, I have to keep switching until I enter a sleepier mode
I’d literally just opened this page and thought you know, it’s kind of nice seeing such a low comment count on this strip…
I believe this comment section has the power to charge a rocket ship with the right discourse
If that’s wrong, then baby I don’t wanna be right.
What? How could you! #cancelProtoforalsosleepingfacedown
Horribly offended here that Sarah gets to sleep in. I didn’t get to sleep in, neither should she. Plus, DoA’s timescale means that she’ll be sleeping in for at least the first week or two of May, which is totally unfair.
Sarah’s new theme song: Wake Me Up When September Ends
But May is almost over already.
Dammit! Calendars, my old arch-nemesis!
… June? Do we think she’ll be out of bed by mid-June?
Knowing this comic? Her getting out of bed might take until October.
slept on my stomach primarily till regularily sharing a bed with my wife. shifted to side sleeping on my left to take less space up (the wife barrel rolls in her sleep tking up less space meant less likely to be woken up by being rolled onto lol) a discovery of a 27degree curve to the left in my spine at 40 has meant learning to sleep on my right side or face the possibility of pain that requires iv morphine to handle (the paramedic shot me up with 2 doses of fentanyl and it did NOTHING) has been fun
Personally I get sick of it at about 10 AM no matter how little sleep I got the night before.
Amateurs. The pro move is to simply go back to bed after you wake up the first time.
Sarah is discovering advanced perfect sleep (excess pillows, covers that smell like a person you find attractive, lack of need to go anywhere or do anything)
Common Sarah W
Hey, why not both? I’ve slept in too long and gotten depressed about it… then immediately pulled a full 180 and gone “but it did feel great though”
I have the kind of depression where you almost never sleep more than a few hours at a time. I’d kill for eight hours of uninterrupted sleep that didn’t involve major pharmaceuticals.
Joyce do you notice how Sarah isn’t claiming sex with a straight man was in any way queer
Yeah, but probably because she and Tony had straight sex, not lesbian sex.
thats true one of them was a man
What a wild thing to have beef with.
sorry straight people co opting queer language and labels to pretend their boring relationship is queer always gets my goat
Orson Bean has not once, in the course of this comic, claimed sex with a straight man was in any way clear. He didn’t say that.
He did, I saw it, you’ll never convince me otherwise.
you understand the concept of a joke, yes?
oh straight people were co opting queer language and identity as a joke, its fine then
Location, location, location. She may never leave Tony’s bed.
Off topic, but with “TACO” trending in the news, it’s a good day to wear my butt taco shirt.
+1
RIGHT???
Sleeping in *for the joy of sleeping in* is healthy.
Sleeping in *because nothing is worth being awake for anyways and life sucks* is depression.
Been there. Am not there anymore. <3
Yay!
why is nobody mad is this even the dumbing of age comments section

“you’re all harmfully stereotyping depression and also infantalising other rachel” – Ess Trawman
for real though, cute comic glad sarah is happy
If you want someone to get mad, just tell them you haven’t watched the same movies as them.
Taking a rest, like a goddess deserves.
If we hurry, we can push the comments over the 100 threshold.
Aaaaaah! Uh… what if Tony comes back and Sarah’s still in bed and he feels she’s lazy? Let’s speculate on that!
aaaaand this makes comment 100! ^-^
