Yes, but it can have that double meaning without implying that someone else is out in the family. Examine the punctuation in Robin’s dialogue. Willis is a stickler for that.
It’s not that anyone else is gay in the family (to my knowledge), it’s that this is another thing Roz can be to stick it to her sister. She’s made a sex tape and she’s gay on top of that.
To be fair, Shortpacked Robin is “Straight with an exception” We have no idea which way DoA Robin swings. For all we know she’s got a HA sex robot with skittle injection manifolds.
Yep, my dad actually goes by his middle name, “Dean” He doesn’t like using James (his first name) mostly because my grandpa’s first name is James (he goes by Jim) and I think my grandpa’s, dad’s name was James too.
Yes, my dad’s name is James Dean R. (Not giving out the last name)
don’t know y she would. its common knowledge that the “family values” crowd trends away from gayness and robins comment didnt seem to be judgmental, just kinda exasperated.
that being said, all she has to do is not have any other women on the stage then problem solved, yes?
It’s the thinner lines, I think. Probably was drawn at a greater size then scaled down. Or scaled down more than the other panels. Or scaled up less then the other panels. Not sure how Willis draws this stuff. Maybe he just sharpened the Wacom’s pen before drawing the first panel or sumthin’.
Well, no, but that’s because the jackhammer would just leave a mess where her lower torso used to be. Some things are just wrong, even when it’s for science.
Science isn’t about why, it’s about why not. You ask: Why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: Why not marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won’t hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired.
its strange i am part of the type of people that Robin is trying to cater to and even i find her way of going about things regarding her sister annoying
She doesn’t wanna go to some sort of bullshit “family values” rally. Her plan to get out of going notwithstanding, should she HAVE to go even though she’s done nothing wrong?
Probably because she’s so blatantly disingenuous, not even bothering to assert what SHE believes about the situation rather than what’s politically good or bad for her?
You know how in Shortpacked! Robin’s selfish behavior can be explained by the fact she has not impulse control and is so hyper-active and childish that she doesn’t seem capable of realizing how what she does is bad? This version of Robin clearly doesn’t have that excuse. She still willing to do what she wants, but this time she seems fully aware of her action and their outcome.
Am I the only one who’s noticed that Roz seems to be rather immature here? Like “Dammit, you’re not supposed to have valid points! I’m the only one allowed to be right!” Granted, I tend to act this way a lot myself, but still.
And did you catch that? Robin is straight here. Well, presumably. We don’t know for sure.
Wait, no, that makes sense actually because she’s straight in Shortpacked with the exception of Leslie, and she hasn’t really met Leslie yet here. Maybe they’re acquaintances at the most because of Leslie bringing her into her classroom.
Except nothing says she’s straight. Or well not gay for Leslie…
When she said “What you’re gay now too?” she seemed to be referring to the fact that Roz pretty much does things, wording it best I can here, based on how she can stand out. It’s a conversation a lot of teenagers actually go through with their mothers at one point. I knew quite a few girls in high school that were only bi-sexual for the attention. Guys liked to see them make out with each other. I figure Robin is referring to that kind of cry for attention here.
At least that’s what I assumed. It’s not like I wrote the thing.
If I’m wrong, may Willis strike me down with a correction.
A few arguments Roz has either explicitly or implicitly dismissed out of hand:
(a) “it’s wrong to go around casually having sex with people you barely know”,
(b) “it’s wrong to display your genitals to the world”
(c) “believing (a) and/or (b) does not make you an inbred hick in desperate need of enlightenment”
And there are probably some more I haven’t thought of.
A and B are not arguments, they are assertions without grounding; you would need to provide a rationale for *why* they were wrong before a discussion could even be had. Dismissing them out of hand is the only possible response in absence of that, as there’s no attempt to engage her position; those positions inherently dismiss hers out of hand with just as little thought.
…. JUST to remain clear, these characters are completely new. This is NOT the Walkyverse, really. They behave similarly, but things are completely different.
Actually, this is more of an Elseworlds or What If… story. It uses characters we’re sort of familiar with, but nothing is set in stone. Here, Ultracar could be a New Beetle, or Amazigirl could be black. Also, backstories aren’t set in stone, Amber’s isolationism could be from not having any neighborhood kids to play with instead of an abusive father.
Big Boss is REALLY short in that first panel, or the perspective is really messed up. Compare the first panel of today’s strip to the second of the previous one – he was a few inches shorter than Robin last time, but today he’s barely up to her shoulders.
So are Robin and her lesbian secretly dating or is this just the start of their relationship? It seems like everyone is starting out the reboot single, so it would does make sense.
I just realized we never did see that Family Values Rally.
I think it would’ve been funny if, in the middle of the party somewhere, we just got a strip of Robin standing around on stage waiting for Roz to show up.
Jonathan Joss being shot outside his home while protecting his husband after being sent a threatening and distressing package is WHY we need Pride
It's 2025 and people are still being shot and killed for being queer
This is why we march and why we fight
the thing about white liberal Americans is that they'll argue to accept bigots into their tent before accepting the bigots' targets.
the targets that have been on the same side as white liberals from the jump.
John Redcorn was pretty much the only contemporary Native representation I had in comedy growing up. Probably the funniest Native character in cartoon history and a lot of that was on Jonathan Joss' pitch perfect rezzy uncle performance. RIP to one of the best to ever do it.

the big disconnect that happens here is between the correct message for D politicians (especially in red states), which is “you’re right, this isn’t who you are, you’re better than that, vote differently next time”
and the actual truth, which is yes you did, fuck you
Raw milk has the opportunity to do the funniest thing

RFK Jr celebrated the release of the MAHA report by downing raw milk shooters in the White House with influencer Paul Saladino. Hazards of raw milk include Listeria, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Yersinia, E. coli O157:H7, and now-- avian flu.
lol at Walky being Walky
He in the house.
I think you mean da hizzouse
Aww, don’t spoil it for me, Roz D=
*wink wink*
Don’t turn the idea down entirely, Roz. Keep it for later, when you get really pissed.
After all, Joe and his Penis are good at that. Pissing people off, that is.
*pissing on people
Fixed that for ya.
I dunno. Being pissed on would certainly piss me off. It might even prompt me to piss on the pisser, pissing them off and causing them to…
INFINITE PISS LOOP
Until one of you is tapped out at least
Thanks, now I have a creepy image of joe using roz like one of those old water rocket toys. EW.
I think Roz has a very good plan going there.
Yeah but I don’t think it will work.
You can never know until you try, also this will prove much needed fanservice.
It wouldn’t get Roz out of the rally is what I meant. The people who are at the rally would either stare and get a rise out of it or walk away.
Who cares if it works, I just want the fanservice.
I know Joe would get a rise out of it.
Particularly his Lil Joe.
I don’t quite think you understand the demographic of the rally.
Gay too? Like she isn’t the only gay one in the family?
Nah, I think she means too as in “in addition to being an activist now you’re gay as well?”
Yeah, see the bolded emphasis on “gay” instead of “you’re”.
But the title!
Clever, that. “Dean out.”
The title doesn’t imply that anyone else in the family is gay, it’s referring to the potential revelation.
It’s a double meaning. An innuendo. A pun. An entendre. It does not mean what you think it means.
You keep using that word, good sir.
My name is gaspacho. You replied to my comment. Prepare to die!
Yes, but it can have that double meaning without implying that someone else is out in the family. Examine the punctuation in Robin’s dialogue. Willis is a stickler for that.
I agree.
I have no idea what “HA” stands for, but everything else about that last sentence made me giggle.
Head Alien.
Wait…
*Sex joke*
HAH!
I see that Walky is supposed to be the audience viewpoint character.
Word.
This is for me, Walky’s best moment in the entire strip so far. Now I want to become a Dean just so I can say ‘Peace homies, Dean out’.
(His best moment that involves us laughing with him rather than AT him, anyway.)
You could change your name to Dean! It’s a real name.
It totally is.
Quiet, you.
Threat of Expulsion = Solid Argument
“I have authority, your argument is invalid!”
“You Will Respect My Authoritah!”
Like a boss!
I feel like Leslie might have something to say about those last two panels.
don’t know y she would. its common knowledge that the “family values” crowd trends away from gayness and robins comment didnt seem to be judgmental, just kinda exasperated.
that being said, all she has to do is not have any other women on the stage then problem solved, yes?
You think Roz wouldn’t kiss her and make some inbreeding joke to the audience?
You mean ‘those’ sort of Family Values….
Only one line here, and the Dean continues his streak of most badass character in the Dumbiverse.
“DeSanto sibling totally makes out licky-style with another chick at rally. 20% rise in DeSanto’s approval ratings, voters trousers.”
The first panel looks really sharp to me for some reason. Very clear.
I want Second Panel Walky on a poster.
Seconded.
And Joe’s really good at getting into stuff that he does wanna do!
It’s like they were made for each other o.o
It’s funny because he completely failed to get in Joyce’s pants.
given it’d probably be hard to get into Joyce’s pants with a jackhammer and a pool full of chloroform…
ONLY THROUGH THE POWER OF THE LORD CAN WE SUCCEED!?!?!
Well, no, but that’s because the jackhammer would just leave a mess where her lower torso used to be. Some things are just wrong, even when it’s for science.
Science cares not for your petty “ethics” ! MWAHAHA!
Peace homies, Insano out!
Science isn’t about why, it’s about why not. You ask: Why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: Why not marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won’t hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired.
Yes you, box your stuff, out the front door, parking lot, car, goodbye.
Not so much a failure as a decision to pursue less hazardous options offering quicker returns.
He said ‘really good’. That doesn’t mean that he can’t fail. Joyce is a very tough nut to crack. Least for right now….
No, Roz, you can’t be not gay! NO ONE’s not gay in the Walkyverse!
Even Joyce just needs to meet the right girl… someone she can connect to, someone religious… like a nun in a trashy European exploitation film…
Well we know at least two people are gay…
Of cause everyone in DoA is at least slightly gay, it’s practically Willis Webcomic Law number 1.
I’m pretty sure Ethan’s not gay.
Right?
its strange i am part of the type of people that Robin is trying to cater to and even i find her way of going about things regarding her sister annoying
Does Roz look incredible sad in the last panel or is it just me?
Mmm… looks more kinda annoyed to me than sad. :\
But I suppose it depends on how you look at it.
I would have gone for annoyed and wary.
I love the composition of the first panel. The angle is a little different and it feels fresh and interesting.
The Dean is now voiced by J.K Simmons.
Fact.
Now I’m hearing it in my mind. It’s like the Morgan Freeman voice, except white and ornery.
Really? I heard it as Foghorn Leghorn.
Having the Dean sound like Foghorn Leghorn wins it for me.
I hear Clancy Brown.
Does the Dean wants exploding lemons or photos of Spider-Man?
Both. He wants Exploding pictures of Spider-Man made from Lemon Skins and Lemon-Juice-Based Ink.
He then wants to use those pictures in a campaign for the presidency that heavily plays on the benefits of unsafe science.
“Do you know who I am?! I’m the man who’s gonna burn your dorm room down! With the lemons!”
“I’m going to get my engineering students to invent a combustible lemon, that BURNS YOUR DORM ROOM DOWN!”
“So what, you decided that you’re gay now too?”
The irony of that statement…
Yes, many of us noticed her immaturity several strips ago, but the general populace here tends to not like it.
We all want to jump on the bandwagon to tout how ‘progressive’ we are
These last two comments make my soul hurt.
At least she acknowledges it’s a solid point and backs off, though. The really immature reaction would’ve been to keep arguing with the Dean anyway.

At least that’s what I assumed. It’s not like I wrote the thing.
If I’m wrong, may Willis strike me down with a correction.
What Roz meant: “Man, I hate it when other people have arguments I haven’t decided to dismiss out of hand.”
Also: “Man, I hate it when I have to account for consequences for my actions that are inconvenient to me.”
Which arguments did Roz choose to dismiss out-of-hand again?
Again, we need the Dean as the third poll option. Dean. Wins. Flawless victory.
I… She… Roz is like… A hot female version of myself .-. This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen .-.
Also on a side note… ‘Dean be the man in charge in any room’ is the lesson we’ve all learned here today (as Walky pointed out.)
Duuuuuuuuude
“Man I hate it when people have solid arguments”. Why do i get the sneaking suspicion that was added after friday’s debacle?
It was not. I wrote these comics weeks ago.
So you have never altered a comic after you drew it later on for any reason? HMMMMM?
Never three weeks later, no. At that point, the story and dialog are pretty solidly set in stone, for better or for worse.
a good talent to have, no doubt
Anthony McHenry, we’re done here.
Exactly what I was thinking. I even read it in his voice.
CURSE YOU, PORTAL.
Wow. Look at that. No activism, just a dumb college kid who makes up lies to get out of crap while making herself look/feel good about what she did.
Who coulda seen that coming.
The thought of some kid trying to pull something similar on Roz 10+ years from now makes me laugh.
…. JUST to remain clear, these characters are completely new. This is NOT the Walkyverse, really. They behave similarly, but things are completely different.
Actually, this is more of an Elseworlds or What If… story. It uses characters we’re sort of familiar with, but nothing is set in stone. Also, backstories aren’t set in stone, Amber’s isolationism could be from not having any neighborhood kids to play with instead of an abusive father.
Yes, and Walky and Sal were, obviously, never split at birth. A lot of differences already.
Does Robin even HAVE a S.O? I heard that any unmarried politicians have a harder time getting elected otherwise.
Amazi-Girl is still the same.
Big Boss is REALLY short in that first panel, or the perspective is really messed up. Compare the first panel of today’s strip to the second of the previous one – he was a few inches shorter than Robin last time, but today he’s barely up to her shoulders.

I just realized we never did see that Family Values Rally.
I think it would’ve been funny if, in the middle of the party somewhere, we just got a strip of Robin standing around on stage waiting for Roz to show up.
I just realized that Dean McHenry just pulled a Cabe Johnson in the first panel there.
