Politicians – A surgeons perfect patient – No Guts, No Gentiles, No heart, No Spine, No Stomach, A lot of hot air, and best of all the ends are interchangeable.
Interesting coinky-dink that this strip goes up right when an actual out lesbian declares her candidacy for the Senate. Is the Dumbiverse dialed in to the future and stuff?
And suddenly, all the sympathetic points Roz’s gathered in these last few strips will be gone in a second. Or she’ll be sung as a hero. OR her most recent and nefarious plan will bite her in the ass.
Well, Roz could be the catalyst that gets them together in this Universe. So it could end up being a good thing. I hope so, cause I was legitimitly saddened when they broke up in the other Universe.
I know that grin… I have that grin often… I love having that grin, and I love seeing others have that grin as long as it’s not about me… That’s the blackmail grin, and everytime I see it things start getting really awesome for the blackmailer (until the very end, admittedly things -do- eventually come to an end and become useless info.)
You should be ashamed, then. The blackmail grin means doing nasty things to someone for the sake of just doing nasty things to that person. Roz is heading for “heinous bongo” territory if she gives in and uses this. Huh, I was wondering how Willis was going to make her be unlikeable here, and I have my answer. She’s the *really* self-centered one of the two this time around.
Ignoring the nasty future-implications of Roz, today’s strip is really cute. It’s kind of charming the way Robing and Leslie are hitting it off here.
It’s also good for saying ‘Hey, know that thing you were going to make me do? Well, if I do it, then I’ll also do this.’ or just plain getting revenge. I’m not a ‘nasty’ person, I do retaliate, though, when my friends or myself are ‘attacked.’
Wow, I wasn’t expecting that to be mutual. In Shortpacked, Leslie went through a long period of seemingly-unrequited passion before Robin started treating her as more than an accessory. It seemed like her ardor gradually won Robin over. Congresswoman Robin has no obvious use for her, and hasn’t had time to start depending on her, and yet here we are.
Les in this universe seems a lot stronger and more confident, in general, and has a job that commands greater respect. That might have something to do with it: it’s more flattering when the person crushing on you is a well-liked gender studies professor than when she’s a grocery clerk with no apparent social circle.
I think differences between DoA and SP! Robin’s reaction to Leslie may have more to do with Robin’s apparent state of development rather than Leslie’s. Given the realization that Robin had a crush on Amber, this makes her rejection of Leslie and fruitless chase of Ethan seem like an elaborate and Robinesque denial of her own sexual desires (maybe as a unconscious reaction to her father’s legacy).
This is a universe where Robin wasn’t abducted by aliens and forced to deploy as a member of SEMME. Maybe in this universe, she may actually have enough time and growth as a person to accept that she is a (closeted?) bisexual/lesbian and to have at least partly overcome the sexual repression she might have had as a result of her family life. (Assuming Mr. Desanto is also an ass in DOA.)
Sexual repression for Robin seems particularly likely when you consider that Roz has basically adopted a opposite life choice, which in my experience is typical for siblings (that they diverge in their reactions).
Judging by robins blush I really doubt that she is unaware. Love is a good kind of sickness that clouds your mind and makes you completely forget everything you know and believe in in that one moment.
You have no idea on how many levels this makes me happy.
For some reason, I just adore these two together. If my prayers to the Gods of femslash are not heard and they get together again in SP!, then I will at least be able ti gush over them here.
I wonder if all the people who are all ‘No no Roz don’t scheme don’t embarrass Leslie’ realize that if Roz does *not* scheme to embarrass Leslie, then it seems highly probable that Robin would walk out that door and never see Leslie again. It’s not like they ever ran into each other previously, and it’s not like Robin will go out of her way to visit scandal/Leslie upon herself in election season – and by the time that ends, this moment of attraction will be just a memory, if there aren’t interim reminders at the least.
If you like Robin+Leslie, you should be banking on Roz pushing them together with the aim of ruining Robin’s political career. ‘Cause I’m not seeing any other way for your desired end to happen.

I seriously doubt Roz wants to blackmail Robin – methinks she would rather have Robin out of politics entirely. She probably thinks that politics is making Robin a bad person (with some justification, based on the past few strips) and probably thinks that destroying her political career would be a good thing for *both* Robin and herself.
The probably is just seeing Leslie as a tool in this though – collateral damage. Though if Robin really does get together with her in the long run it might work out anyway.

John Redcorn was pretty much the only contemporary Native representation I had in comedy growing up. Probably the funniest Native character in cartoon history and a lot of that was on Jonathan Joss' pitch perfect rezzy uncle performance. RIP to one of the best to ever do it.

I know that grin… I have that grin often… I love having that grin, and I love seeing others have that grin as long as it’s not about me… That’s the blackmail grin, and everytime I see it things start getting really awesome for the blackmailer (until the very end, admittedly things -do- eventually come to an end and become useless info.)

Wow, I wasn’t expecting that to be mutual. In Shortpacked, Leslie went through a long period of seemingly-unrequited passion before Robin started treating her as more than an accessory. It seemed like her ardor gradually won Robin over. Congresswoman Robin has no obvious use for her, and hasn’t had time to start depending on her, and yet here we are.
Les in this universe seems a lot stronger and more confident, in general, and has a job that commands greater respect. That might have something to do with it: it’s more flattering when the person crushing on you is a well-liked gender studies professor than when she’s a grocery clerk with no apparent social circle.
I think differences between DoA and SP! Robin’s reaction to Leslie may have more to do with Robin’s apparent state of development rather than Leslie’s. Given the realization that Robin had a crush on Amber, this makes her rejection of Leslie and fruitless chase of Ethan seem like an elaborate and Robinesque denial of her own sexual desires (maybe as a unconscious reaction to her father’s legacy).
This is a universe where Robin wasn’t abducted by aliens and forced to deploy as a member of SEMME. Maybe in this universe, she may actually have enough time and growth as a person to accept that she is a (closeted?) bisexual/lesbian and to have at least partly overcome the sexual repression she might have had as a result of her family life. (Assuming Mr. Desanto is also an ass in DOA.)
Sexual repression for Robin seems particularly likely when you consider that Roz has basically adopted a opposite life choice, which in my experience is typical for siblings (that they diverge in their reactions).
Judging by robins blush I really doubt that she is unaware. Love is a good kind of sickness that clouds your mind and makes you completely forget everything you know and believe in in that one moment.
Love is actually just mostly sexytimes. Sexytimes and happy present gifts occasionally.

I wonder if all the people who are all ‘No no Roz don’t scheme don’t embarrass Leslie’ realize that if Roz does *not* scheme to embarrass Leslie, then it seems highly probable that Robin would walk out that door and never see Leslie again. It’s not like they ever ran into each other previously, and it’s not like Robin will go out of her way to visit scandal/Leslie upon herself in election season – and by the time that ends, this moment of attraction will be just a memory, if there aren’t interim reminders at the least.
If you like Robin+Leslie, you should be banking on Roz pushing them together with the aim of ruining Robin’s political career. ‘Cause I’m not seeing any other way for your desired end to happen.

I seriously doubt Roz wants to blackmail Robin – methinks she would rather have Robin out of politics entirely. She probably thinks that politics is making Robin a bad person (with some justification, based on the past few strips) and probably thinks that destroying her political career would be a good thing for *both* Robin and herself.
The probably is just seeing Leslie as a tool in this though – collateral damage. Though if Robin really does get together with her in the long run it might work out anyway.
