Just saying I kinda doubt Blaine paid these guys. There are some people who do the irl “supervillain” thing to help call attention to actually worthy causes, like a heel version of the rl superhero movement.
I suspect the Incelerator is not one of these individuals. Just a hunch.
Perhaps his brush with villainy actually caused him to reflect on his misdeeds and change his ways? Maybe he’s not calling out females with too many skills to chastise them or bring any sort of ill will, but instead to highlight their talents as sadly lots of women are still overshadowed despite or even because they have a robust suite of skill sets and qualifications. Maybe just maybe Incelerator is the hero we need to platform exceptional women?
Carla is, of course, multi-skilled, and can build machines to annoy the world’s worst people with pies, her name in lights, or whatever else would cause them the most distress. So she’s going to win on skating prowess, number of skills, and ability to deploy both of the former with surgical accuracy. This dude is going to whine so hard, he’ll pop out of existence and I love that for all of us.
I don’t think that’s true. Per the regulations, they don’t “apply to any public institution of undergraduate higher education which traditionally and continually from its establishment has had a policy of admitting only students of one sex.” So Bryn Mawr is safe.

This is a silly thing to say. Having a cartoon where a dipshit loser incel gets his shit pushed in doesn’t “pretend there’s an easy satisfying [and so on]”. It’s not saying “This is how it works in the real world! It’s just that easy!”, it’s saying “Goddamn, I wanna do this to these people”, which is based and good.
I don’t think it’s an either/or thing. Different stories for different folks, at different times in their life, for when it speaks to them. We can have both simplified and complex villains, and they do not devalue each other. Sometimes some people want a full course meal, and sometimes they just want a piece of bread.

Making fun of a person or ideology is actually a very effective real-world weapon against them. Chaining ourselves to seriousness is not necessary.
So, this comic may land differently this time of year for a lot of us in Canada than it does elsewhere.
We’re less than a week from the anniversary of the December 6th École Polytechnique massacre in 1989, when an armed man burst into a classroom at a Montreal engineering school shouting misogynist slogans about feminists. He separated the men from the women, and then opened fire on the women. He then roamed the building targeting more women before finally shooting himself. 14 women died — 12 engineering students, a nursing student and a staff member — and several more were wounded. Since then, this date has been marked in Canada as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
I hope the Incelerator is just a buffoon whose comeuppance is about to arrive in the form of Sal, Carla or Amazi-Girl. (Or all three.) But I’ll be a little on edge until that happens, because this scene has some awfully dark antecedents.
This is a good reminder that the hatred of women our cultures are steeped in is fatal to so many women. Police would much rather hunt down a guy who kills a rich white CEO than stop men from murdering their wives and girlfriends and crushes, just going by statistics on what crimes get punished.
Everyone thinks Incelerator is a villain, because of the way he looks and acts and does villainy and is so unlikable I feel the need to clarify I’m doing a bit. But if he hadn’t shown up and changed the subject someone might have noticed that Jocelyne just made fun and downplayed of an incident where Joyce’s friend was literally fucking murdered. By arriving now, Incelerator spared Jocelyne an unbelievably uncomfortable conversation, taking Jocelynn’s social sins upon himself like a less fuckable Jesus.
Society may hate him, and rightfully so, but Incelerator is the hero Indiana deserves, a geek so annoying he protects others from faux pas…es…?…
I am not sure how much Jocelyn knows about that incident, especially the costumes. I don’t think she was trying to downplay a literal kidnapping and murder, I think she was saying “the world is complicated”.
I mean, she was setting up the Incelerator for a punchline, and any time the masks come on we’re in the silly zone where nothing makes sense and thinking about it too hard just makes you a wet blanket and everyone gets in a line to give you a wedgie like the nun in Airplane!.
I just find it mildly amusing to think there’s probably a big gap between how making fun of “silly costumes” reads in our world where incels are boring vs the world of the comic where students are getting assaulted by masked supervillains on a regular basis and a dude Joyce knows got thrown off a roof to his death by The Legion Of Dad a few weeks ago, something Jocelyne’s and Joyce’s own mom was involved in.

There are some people who do the irl “supervillain” thing to help call attention to actually worthy causes, like a heel version of the rl superhero movement.
