Aww, my younger brother actually does have better luck with women than me…well better luck than I have with men. I haven’t actually attempted lesbianism, for all I know I could be great at that.
Yeah, they were a cute couple, but ever since Dina peeped Walky’s note-scribbles, I’ve held out hope for Walky/Dina as a backup ship, and I really don’t see Walky/Joyce happening in alternate Walkyverse as well.
Weren’t we introduced to DoA with Joyce asking Walky if they would have gotten together in a different universe? So there is still some trnsion, thematically.
Of course Walky is going to get with Billie, obviously, so the moot is therefore moot.
No, it’s something that stands *for* nouns (“pro” being Latin for “for”). Pronouns are grammatically different than nouns in English, retaining three cases to nouns’ two and preserving grammatical gender.
So while pronouns serve the same function as nouns in a sentence, they’re not nouns — the rules governing them are too different.
Clearly. Remember that episode where they made another PowerPuff using sticks and leaves and stuff? (They named her Bunny, and she only lasted an episode before melting. She was purple.) Witchcraft, I tell you.
Y’know, back in the day, I tried working out how to put the Power-Puff Girls in White Wolf’s World of Darkness. Second edition. The Prof was a Tremere, Mojo Jojo a Gangrel, Buttercup a Brujah, Blossom was a Ventrue, and Bubbles a Malkavian…
Hey everybody, can you Walky the walk?
Can you back it up when you talk the talk?
Hey everybody, when I hear the knock,
Don’t wanna measure out my life to the tick of a clock.
I wanna Walky to the beat of my own drum.
Just Walky out in the rain,
Walky out with your dreams,
Walky out of my life if you don’t feel right.
And catch the next train;
Oh, darling, Walky out in the rain.
Also, you can be in the right and still MISS the person you gave up. I mean, there are women who still love men who BEAT them, even if they have the wisdom to leave. I think Dorothy might be able to feel some remorse because pajama jeans came between them.
“you can be in the right and still MISS the person you gave up.”
There’s a lot of truth in that. I did the breaking up with the fiend I dare not speak its name and still intensely missed her for a while. Heck, it took fully years before the random thoughts of “I wonder what she’s doing right now?” stopped. But don’t confuse nostalgia with regret. Sometimes doing the right thing is painful.
Of course I didn’t break up with the fiend over pajama jeans.
A little pvp works well to counter the ‘heartbreak of breakup’, or failing an exam, or getting hollered at, or just if you’re bored. On the other hand, maybe, it’s just fun.
Joyce is like a friend of mine, tie her hands behind her back and she couldn’t talk.
I was never a huge fan of DC’s Identity Crisis, but I always thought the opening scene where Elongated Man compares himself to Butter Pecan when explaining how he and Sue hooked up was genuinely “awwwww”-inducing.
“Caramel boy” brings to mind those ads for that chocolate-scented body spray where the guy’s literally made of chocolate and people rip his arm off and stuff. Ie. the most horrifying ad ever.
She /did/ break up with him, though, because she didn’t like his trousers. When you give someone an ultimatum and then walk out because they won’t give up something they love (even though they would be perfectly happily to have both you and it in their life), that’s definitely you breaking up with them rather than them breaking up with you. Is she deliberately misrepresenting the situation to Joyce, or is she trying to convince herself that it was out of her hands I wonder..?
I think it’s more of a who had the final say thing. I don’t think Dorothy never really even intended it as an ultimatum. It was just her attempt to get Walky to stop wearing those pants which kind of backfired.
Yeah, that’s basically it. She was basically telling him that he needs to clean up if they want their relationship to work and he decided to end the relationship because he didn’t want somebody trying to control him
I have never understood the reasoning that certain types of fabric can’t be used for everyday outer-layer clothing, and I therefore have no sympathy for Dorothy.
Actually, from Walky’s perspective, the pajama jeans were probably largely immaterial. He had a problem with being treated like a child by his cartoon-and-make-out buddy.
Seriously. He put it quite well. He signed in for a set-up that didn’t require any commitment from him. The moment she started making demands he backed out. Wasn’t what he signed up for. Wasn’t what he wanted. Wasn’t something he was willing to be a part of.
Poor Dorothy.. Looking back now at it that it wasn’t her call, that her request for him to not wear pyjama jeans in public wasn’t unreasonable. that he left her. rather than seeing she gave a literal ultimatum which he refused.
I see her yelling “It wasn’t my fault I told him pyjama jeans are not to be worn in public and he left me!”
– you talk about their relationship as it wasn’t just a fling
– regardless, you may not care about what you wear (or more generally what you look like / your image), but most people do (and probably should too). If you care, it only makes sense that you also care about what your SO looks like
Would you care if your significant other decided to wear a leather vest and jeans 5 sizes too big for them that they wore around their ankles? Or worse, would you care if they grew a mullet?
(More importantly, would you care if they didn’t know the difference between “I could give” and “I couldn’t give”?)
You say this with confidence, but I will put money that this is due to the fact that the taste in clothing isn’t completely horrid. There is certainly an outfit out there that makes people unattractive to others.
You’ll have to be more specific. It’s on a rotation at the moment, with several possibilities possible at any pageload. Currently, I see Dotty, Walky, Joyce and Joe in a classroom setting.
I don’t know if I’d call this being catty though. She’s had a pretty active dislike of Walky since she met him, I think her reaction is an offshoot of that.
Umm… Dorothy you mean “yes”. Manipulative ultimatums about things that really don’t matter in the long run that result in you walking away first because your demands were not met, is by definition “Breaking up”.
You just don’t want to be the guilty one, and you regret your decision. That doesn’t mean it isn’t what you did. Own up to it, fix it if you can, but don’t lie about it.
I’m not sure, but is it morally ok to hope for Dina/ Walky again? I mean, I don’t think them getting together will hurt anyone any more than Dorothy’s hatred for awesome things (pajama pants) has already done.
Gotta give to Walky though… he stood up for what was right. Pajama Pants.
Was it a breakup though? Things got heated sure, but nothing irreconcilable really took place. They just lost their tempers. OTOH these are teenagers, so every fight is an automatic breakup to them.
Considering who her ex is, this is probably the first time a BF has ever stood up to her. It probably just flat-out doesn’t compute as anything other than a breakup to her.
A little of this and a lot of pride is how I read it. I bet if she showed back up at Walky’s door with a DVD full of cartoons, an apology and a new tolerance for pajama jeans things would smooth over.
Depends on how far ahead Walky can see, ’cause you can bet Dotty will do something like this again. She seems to be one of those smart people who has a great difficulty with learning.
For some people, sarcasm is hard to grasp when you’re just not comfortable with people. Joyce has pretty solid friendships at this point and knows who she can joke with, how much and in what ways. I can be the same way. It would have taken me a few weeks with the group too before I’d feel comfortable enough to make those kinds of jokes with Billie or Dorothy. Though, reading the entire archive of Something Positive also tipped that scale for me my sophmore year :-).
Is it just me or has Joyce seemed a bit too flippant the last few strips? For most characters it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it feels strange to have her be more concerned about boots than Sarah’s story.
I’m surprised noone is screaming racism here in the comments section, what with some people thinking only whites can be racist, since she said Caramel boy.
Well, I shouldn’t complain, I guess people got it she meant it flatteringly. ^^
Of course Dorothy belongs to a higher class than Walky, so it’s expected that he should be thankful to her for being willing to teach him how to dress classy and stuff, let alone make out with him. Like doesn’t he understand that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the better classes?
The trouble is just Walky doesn’t subscribe to the class system. That can be confusing to those who don’t understand that people can treat each other as equals.

btw if you're one of those rando bluesky weirdos who doesn't know me but sees me in the wild being sarcastic and don't know i'm being sarcastic because you haven't taken like 30 seconds to, like, maybe look at my user profile or something, keep walking, you're not going to score internet points here
Here's an entertaining cite at the bottom of the first page

Where did Hollywood go so wrong? I thought movies were supposed to be an escape from reality, a chance to put your worries aside and not have to think about any underlying ideas or concepts. Well, not anymore.

It's not a new argument, of course, but Chesterton dismissed it effectively in 1908.
"You will hear everlastingly... this argument that the rich man cannot be bribed. The fact is, of course, that the rich man is bribed; he has been bribed already. That is why he is a rich man."

wilbur, savvy enough to know he's in a comic strip but still not a great actor, awkwardly lifts a muffin up into frame so that we, the audience, understand that he has a muffin right now, which is very important narratively, but he's not really selling it well as an organic, human action
confirming that the reason there's been no Galaxy Version female characters in Blokees until now is that they felt they needed to make Round Lady Thighs For Ladies
Because “Me broke up with Walky” would be grammatically awkward, and unlikely from someone as intelligent as Dorothy.
Plus, only one of them is a noun. The other is a pronoun!
A pronoun is just a noun that lost its amateur status.
Everything in life worth knowing can be learned from Calvin & Hobbes.
Indeed. Bats are bugs. I know because Calvin says so.
Unless she’s angry. You won’t like her when she’s angry.
and she looks so sad. Poor Dotty
She misses his tasty nipples.
Caramel nipples!
Caramel nipples and Pajama jeans! How can you go wrong with a combination like that?!
Speaking of loooks, has anyone noticed a certian devious/sly look on Joyce’s face these past few strips?
that’s just her getting her thinking cap on, it distorts her FACE!
Yes. Has her Billification already begun? Is so little exposure required?
Then we are all being Billified!
Yeah, I can see how someone like Walky deciding he’s too good for you would be a mood-dampener.
No, it was when he realized that Pajama Jeans are too good for Dorothy.
Dorothy is doing really well at balancing that quail’s egg on top of her head.
Leonard likes this.
I thought she was about to have an idea and the light hasn’t gone off yet.
*Ding!* “I know! I’ll just tell Walky he doesn’t have to wear pants at all!”
Just wear shorts. They’re comfy and easy to wear.
I see what you did there…
Dotty? Admit she was wrong? Oh, get real.
Can’t… Unsee…
It’s even hovering a little! That takes real skill.
It’s not a quail egg, it’s the dot of an exclamation point, the rest of which is off the top of the panel. She has a quest for Joyce!
She recently spotted Snake, but she’s screening it…
Now this. Is funny.
I thought that was intentionally symbolism for change??
watching cartoons is a great way of dealing with break-ups (it truly is)
Caramel boy? That’s a good nickname for Walky.
Me broke up with Walky? Sounds like cartoon Grimlock.
Me Grimlock no bozo. Me Grimlock king!
“Me Grimlock not Caramel Boy! Me Grimlock king!”
Dangit, Aizat beat me to it. I knew I shouldn’t have stopped to add html tags! I wasted valuable time.
Me, Solomon Grundy, Broke up with Walky.
Grundy need pants too.
I could totally see Grundy wearing Pajama Jeans.
Best part of my childhood. Ever.
Hulk need soft, stretchy jeans more! Hulk’s ass falling out of regular jeans!
They come in purple?
Me broke up with Walky? That’s unpossible!
dang man. Walky breaking up with you is like having to take your cousin to the prom.
Or finding out your younger brother having better luck with women than you.
Really, you had to remind me of that?
Or your girlfriend leaving you for her stalker.
Hoo boy.
Or your sister.
Or learning that your girlfriend is with you just because she has the hots for your mom.
Or learning that your mom has the hots for your stalker.
Aww, my younger brother actually does have better luck with women than me…well better luck than I have with men. I haven’t actually attempted lesbianism, for all I know I could be great at that.
Attempted lesbianism is a misdemeanor in New York State. True story.
Does this mean that lesbianism is allowed if it’s accidental (not attempted) or successful (not only attempted)?
Let’s go with that.
It’s almost like progress.
One could almost compare the situation to having your boyfriend choose his dog over you.
Or having your boyfriend dump you to have more time to play world of warcraft.
Even though I still want Walky and Joyce together, I thought Dorothy and Walky were a pretty cute couple
Well, Willis mentions this alternate universe having zero to do with the Walkyverse. So I don’t believe that would count as a valid reason here.
Last I checked, “me” was a pronoun.
Still a subset of the nouns, so Joyce isn’t wrong. If we want to be specific, it’s an accusative pronoun.
Walky, on the other hand, is an amateur noun.
What you did there, I see it.
I love Joyce’s hand gestures. They’re so… Joyce.
TIME FOR CARTOONS! CARTOONS WHICH PROMOTE VIOLENCE AND WITCHCRAFT!
Specifically, “Power Puff Girls”.
Power Puff Girls promotes witchcraft? Last I checked it promotes Molinguish.
Clearly. Remember that episode where they made another PowerPuff using sticks and leaves and stuff? (They named her Bunny, and she only lasted an episode before melting. She was purple.) Witchcraft, I tell you.
I dunno, I think PPG might go well with some conservative audiances, I mean in that continuity Satan is a drag queen.
The Powerpuff Girls were created in a laboratory! They are abominations of science, insults to the Lord’s Creation!
He walky’d all over my heart.
Those pajama jeans were made for walkying
and that’s just what they did.
You can tell by the way he’s walky
he’s a woman’s man
no time to talk
Walky hard… hard… down life’s… lonesome road…
Hey everybody, can you Walky the walk?
Can you back it up when you talk the talk?
Hey everybody, when I hear the knock,
Don’t wanna measure out my life to the tick of a clock.
I wanna Walky to the beat of my own drum.
How many roads must man Walky down,
before you can call him a man?
I’m Walky on, Walky on, Walky on broken glass!
I got the Walkynuemonia and the rigid-bongo blues!
Walky like a man, talk like a man, Walky like a man my son
Walky this way, talk this way, Walky this way
talk this way,
Uh, just gimme a kiss!
Just Walky out in the rain,
Walky out with your dreams,
Walky out of my life if you don’t feel right.
And catch the next train;
Oh, darling, Walky out in the rain.
I’m walkying on sunshine, wooah,
I’m walkying on sunshine, wooah,
I’m walkying on sunshine, wooah,
And don’t it feel good.
NO MORE!!! I’M PISSING MYSELLF WITH LAUGHTER!!!
I go out Walkyin’
After midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
I’m always Walkyin’
After midnight
Searching for youuuu
Well I would Walky 500 miles
And I would Walky 500 more
Just to be the man who Walky’d a thousand miles
To fall down at your door
Also, in before “she misses Walky! That means he’s right and she’s wrong! Willis is telling us that she shouldn’t have standards!” or such nonsense.
Nah, Willis usually pulls a swerve.
pulling a swerve seems like some sort of euphenism.
Or possibly a painful injury.
I’m going to pull the swerve of your FEMURS.
Also, you can be in the right and still MISS the person you gave up. I mean, there are women who still love men who BEAT them, even if they have the wisdom to leave. I think Dorothy might be able to feel some remorse because pajama jeans came between them.

Exactly. But there were some commenters who seemed to think that Walky sighing and being lonely indicated that he was in the wrong.
Everything Joyce is doing right now is pretty much amazing.

Must… resist… urge.. to make… bondage joke…
Must.. resist… urge.. to make… classic Wonder Woman joke…
Moral of the story: Love hurts, but sometimes, breakups hurt even more.
Once you go caramel, it’s hard to switch back to vanilla.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t go chocolate.
No one ever goes Rum-Raisin…
Well, raisin gives you an “easy release” and the rum is always gone.
Crap, I must’ve mistaken prunes for raisins.
Crap being the operative word here.
snerk!
I was never a huge fan of DC’s Identity Crisis, but I always thought the opening scene where Elongated Man compares himself to Butter Pecan when explaining how he and Sue hooked up was genuinely “awwwww”-inducing.
especially since a character named Elongated man could have clearly used a completely different joke about how he hooked up with her.
If I was Elongated Man, I might have compared myself with toffee or nougat.
Or at least bubble gum
“Caramel boy” brings to mind those ads for that chocolate-scented body spray where the guy’s literally made of chocolate and people rip his arm off and stuff. Ie. the most horrifying ad ever.

Actually, from Walky’s perspective, the pajama jeans were probably largely immaterial. He had a problem with being treated like a child by his cartoon-and-make-out buddy.
I think the matterial was what mattered most to Walky about those pajama jeans.
Don’t judge Walky until you’ve walked a mile in their gentle caress.
Woman, they will come and they will go. When you wear the fake jeans you will know
I’m used to seeing “gently caress” as a replacement for another word…
Seriously. He put it quite well. He signed in for a set-up that didn’t require any commitment from him. The moment she started making demands he backed out. Wasn’t what he signed up for. Wasn’t what he wanted. Wasn’t something he was willing to be a part of.
Haha that’s a good way of phrasing it. Treated like a child by his cartoon-watching & make out buddy. Ironic n stuff.
You didn’t live through the spandex in public fad?
“I don’t think Dorothy never”
Double-negative, hmm? Sir, are you implying that Dorothy DID mean it as an ultimatum?
Love Joyce’s “sassy” looks.
“No, but I can decide you’re not attractive to me anymore.” Sure, that’s not _technically_ a ‘literal ultimatum’, but… just sayin’.
It’s good enough for me. After all, a relationship shouldn’t hinge on what you’re wearing.
I could give less than a flyin’ what my significant other wears. Though, of course, less is better.
… I have a mullet.
I’m sad now.
You say this with confidence, but I will put money that this is due to the fact that the taste in clothing isn’t completely horrid. There is certainly an outfit out there that makes people unattractive to others.
Hey, new gravatars. Neat.
The current banner seems strangely appropriate.
The one with Dorothy about to slit Walky’s throat?
You’ll have to be more specific. It’s on a rotation at the moment, with several possibilities possible at any pageload. Currently, I see Dotty, Walky, Joyce and Joe in a classroom setting.
New Joyce is getting catty as hell.
I like New Joyce.
I don’t know if I’d call this being catty though. She’s had a pretty active dislike of Walky since she met him, I think her reaction is an offshoot of that.
You know it’s really bad when even Joyce thinks you should be the dumper and not the dumped.
Wow, Joyce is really playing therapist today. First she’s listening to Sarah’s story, now she has to hear about Dorothy’s breakup.
She is never going to find out if her boots look good.
You know, for some reason, Joyce just sounds wrong using the perfect tense.
… and I LIKE Dorothy.
I don’t want Dead!Dina again, so it’s probably best not to play with fire.
Loving the hand motions, Joyce.
Looks like she’s been hanging out with Joe again, eh?
Yeaaah, because that’s a reaaaally accurate description of what happened…
Man, between this and joking about Bone City, Joyce is getting sassy all of a sudden. Tres interessant.
Has college life finally gotton to Joyce? She’s getting really sarcastic lately.
This is what rebound relationships are for, Dorothy! They’re less complicated so you can get rid of all those angsty feelings in a simpler package.
That always works, right?
I love Joyce’s facial expressions in panels 3 and 4.
Nobody disses the Walk! He’a a man with almost a plan.
No, Joyce. Contrary to what you all might thing, Walky’s a well-adjusted adult;
Not reliant on other human beings, and therefore unwilling to take their bullshit just to be around them.
Is it just me or has Joyce seemed a bit too flippant the last few strips? For most characters it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it feels strange to have her be more concerned about boots than Sarah’s story.
Billie is obviously a horrendous influence on her!
Joyce has had some wonderful facial expressions in this storyline.
Even she has little faith in Walky.
I’m surprised noone is screaming racism here in the comments section, what with some people thinking only whites can be racist, since she said Caramel boy.
Well, I shouldn’t complain, I guess people got it she meant it flatteringly. ^^
That is I’m not complaining. This is great : )
peace n harmony
Of course Dorothy belongs to a higher class than Walky, so it’s expected that he should be thankful to her for being willing to teach him how to dress classy and stuff, let alone make out with him. Like doesn’t he understand that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the better classes?
The trouble is just Walky doesn’t subscribe to the class system. That can be confusing to those who don’t understand that people can treat each other as equals.
omg she called him caramel boy, that’s really racist. :/ joooooooyce
