            1) Was it a customer or an employee?
            2) How big was the Walmart in question? Was it a regular Walmart, or one of those super-Walmarts that are bigger than some counties?

Walked right into that one, didn’t you Danny? Man if this keeps up, I might actually like Dumbverse Danny as much as I like Teri Hatcher’s Lois Lane from Lois and Clark.

That is my favorite live-action superhero tv show. Smallville had it’s moments, but it was never as much fun. And man, don’t get me started on CBS’s Flash.

I have the CBS Flash on DVD. I really liked it at the time. And, though I don’t think it’s aged very well, I still liked it. Like Lois and Clark, it acknowledged that he had powers 24/7 and that he used his speed to great effect.

It’s pretty funny though that Barry Allen was depicted as a nerd and derided for being a “police scientist” on the network that, 20 years later, would have 20 million CIS shows.

No love for Lou Ferrigno as the hulk?

Lou Ferrigno was good. So was Bill Bixby. It’s not their fault that the writing was awful and Banner was forced to wander the world interacting with boring people who I never cared about.

The best thing about The Incredible Hulk live action TV show was that it ended and Kenneth Johnson was then free to make is magnum opus: Short Circuit 2.

Too bad he followed it up with Steel.

See, I feel the opposite re: the Hulk. I haven’t seen enough of it to judge the writing quality, but what you describe as a typical plot is more interesting to me than most Hulk things.

The whole reason why I liked him in The Avengers (besides Whedon and Mark Ruffalo) is that we had scenes about BRUCE BANNER, and he was making an effort to better the world as himself (and, post-movie, also as the Hulk). I couldn’t really get behind the whiny guy hunkered down in a soda factory obsessively trying to cure himself, or the tact taken by most cartoons and comics where it’s Hulk, Hulk, all the time, punching down walls and beating up bad guys. In “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”, I was just depressed by the fact that the Hulk obviously just hangs around the manor full-time and no one even knows Bruce is in there. (And yeah, that’s what Bruce promised him, but it didn’t make it suck any less.)

To be honest, I also prefer Hulk only marginally intelligent, written like a big mostly nonverbal animal, because I think that’s a more effective contrast between Hulk and Banner; without that, the Hulk is just the Thing with a slight split personality.

But I’m well-aware that what I prefer here is portrayed rarely, and is certainly not in line with the original creation.

The live action TV show certainly had it’s moments. The pilot is, I think really good. If you haven’t seen that, you may want to. Also the TV movie, Trial of the Incredible Hulk is cool. It’s got Daredevil in it. Come to think of it, Return of the Incredible Hulk has Thor in it. You might want to check them out.

I agree with you that giving Banner a reason to be there and making him part of the team was a good idea. And like you, it’s one of the reasons I think Hulk worked as well has he did.

Some of my own vitriol towards the show may be because when I was little it marketed toward me as a kids show. It’s not a kids show. Not because it’s bad or has a lot of stuff that’s inappropriate, but because it’s boring and the Hulk is rarely in it.

It is important that one cares about the other people though. If the others are just boring little fishes that don’t have any traits beyond “I’m a civilian in distress, help me hero!” Then it no longer matters because there’s no investment.

Hey, is the Buffer Watch so when someone claims Willis “totally got this idea from the discussion section”, the rest of us can point to the Buffer as proof the comic in question already existed for at least a month before the comment was even made?

It appeared shortly after a comment thread in Friday’s strip where someone suggested that Willis was getting ideas from the commentary, and I pointed out that he had a huge buffer already prepared, but underestimated how huge by a couple of weeks.

That’s probably totally unrelated, though. I think he actually did it just to make every other webcomic artist except Howard Tayler feel like a lazy slacker.

Amazi-Girl seems a bit dishevelled today. (Before I found out Goo Gone was a brand-named product, I thought she was just slurring incomprehensibly. “I’ve got a street sign and some Goo Gone g’tchoo gthluuuu. [hits ground]”) I wonder when she sleeps. (‘Course, that’s the Batman question as well — successful Bruce Wayne in the day, vengeful Batman at night, insomniac all-day ’round.)

The buffer watch is beginning to worry me. It feels like the start of something. When Willis had his comics planned out and drawn a year in advance, he began to grow restless. Transformers provided a welcome diversion, but their idle company was not enough. He needed the job that had sustained him for years. He began offering to make strips for other comics — ‘ghost-cartooning’, as it were. His pace was mighty, and he filled out strip after strip, prepared week after week of story, of gags, of interaction…soon, he was scripting and drawing every comic in existence. It was still not enough. One night, weary from his frantic workload, he cut his hand while sharpening a pencil. Blood mixed with ink. Something terrible happened that night.

From then on, there was no David Willis. There was no one to cast blame on and damn. There was only The Cheese.

(Still found time to go to Botcon, though.)

(Also, the heck, are there sparks coming from where Amazi-Girl is dragging the site along the ground?)

David, is your deviantArt a well-kept secret? After comics like this and last week’s Dorothy strip (puns!) I see a lot of people acting disappointed that your comics are PG, when as far as I can tell you’re one of the most prolific pin-up artists in webcomics outside of the Slipshine label. And one of the few pin-up artists that seem genuinely sex-positive.
