Jeremiah was a major prophet and Deborah was a kick-ass judge. Maybe her dad’s a economic analyst and her mom’s a colonel or general in some branch or another?
Actually Jeremiah was a bullfrog. He was a good friend of mine. I never understood a single word he said, but I helped him drink his wine. He always had some mighty fine wine.
I’ve been in a similar situation. My parents called saying they were coming over. I figured I would have time to walk the girl in my room back to her dorm and be back in time to meet my parents. We get to the lobby and I find my parents sitting on the couch–they had called from the front desk.
Woohoo! I got first vote on the newest poll. We’ve already met Joyce’s parents, but I thought the “invent the internet” joke from Joyce’s dad is one of the funniest we’ve seen so far.
It took me a little while to figure it out, but I eventually picked Roz. Really, more than anything else, this is actually just me wanting to know what kind of family Robin from Shortpacked! grew up in than actually Roz, but I’ll take a DeSanto family in either universe.
Stuff like Walky/Sal or Amber I didn’t pick because I can’t imagine their families being substantially different from the Walkyverse versions. And I didn’t pick Dina because she’s not only too obvious but also I think she herself is more interesting than any potential family members – insofar as her family would be interesting it would be in how they reacted to Dina.
But didn’t Robin and Roz’s dad leave the family at some point? That would just lead to more opportunities for depressing stories like Ruthless’s parents. Or Billie’s clearly inattentive parents who don’t care about their daughter at all.
I’m kind of curious what Linda Walkerton is like in a world where [MASSIVE IT’S WALKY! SPOILERS REDACTED]. Otherwise, yeah, most of the parents we met in the Walkyverse I figure aren’t going to be much different in the Dumbiverse. Of the ones we didn’t see in the Walkyverse, I figure Sierra’s are probably the most interesting.
“WHAT THE HELL GUYS, REALLY?” Your fun, Willis, we likes destroy it. Like a pack of rabid hounds, we takes it in our doggy teeth and chew it to bits! Cause that is how we role.
Killing people’s fun is my sport of choice. My weapons are wikipedia, a lack of the social awareness to tell when people are joking, and a lack of actually caring when they are.
WTF why does Joyce’s best friend from the first 2 strips in this comic remind me so much of Dorothy’s mum.
Freckles, the hair style, the colour is just a few hues apart…
Neither of them use glasses either.
Wahoops I take that back.
Although maybe they’d be a bit more look-a-like-ish if Joyce’s best friend let her hair cover her ears.
Just me tho.
Also Willis has a liking for freckles, and I probably noticed the freckles more than anything.
I know we all want to see more of Dina, guys, but do you really want to go down this road? If it was up to me I’d punish the voters by doing like a month of The Adventures of Dina’s Parents and Not a Damn Word About Dina Herself.
And thus I finally catch up with the two ongoing strips Willis has. First Shortpacked! and now Dumbing of Age… now to start on the other ones (working backwards).
Also? I’m on the bandwagon for wanting to see Dina’s parents… and hoping that Robin makes another appearance (with Roz’s family)… and licky-styles Leslie.
My nightmare.
Mine is when the dinosaur empire finally comes out of hiding and conquered Earth.
And Dina shall be their queen!
…I think you are confused about the connotations of “nightmare.”
Do not fret, Aizat. For here at the edge of hope, we are cancelling the Apocalypse!
So…Saint Walker is going to save us?
Yup, he’s going to beat up Darkseid on Apokolips to avert the Apocalypse.
Fear not. There will always be Getter.
And psychos to pilot it.
Wow, you actually got my Getter Robo reference.
I did too, but I was late to da par tee :p
Dina would probably love that though
You mean, like with Dr McNinja?
Dinosaur Empire? Getter Robot reference?
At least Walky wasn’t there.
What if…they ARE Dina’s parents???
Poor Dina
What makes you think they’re Dina’s parents??
Sometimes the hovertext is crucial to understanding the comments…
I keep forgeting about the hovertext.
Not creepy. Not creepy at all.
Incidentally, her parent’s names are Jeremiah and Deborah. Huh. Trying to find symbolism. Failing to find symbolism.
Deborah starts with D and has an Ora sound?
While I’m ashamed of you for making that joke, I’m ashamed of myself for understanding it.
…is that… is that a Kia-Ora reference?
Dora?
The Explorer?
Swiper, no swiping!
They’ve come to swipe the windows? And accidently reveal the location of Cobra bases?
Is that Backpack all grown up?
Jeremiah was a major prophet and Deborah was a kick-ass judge. Maybe her dad’s a economic analyst and her mom’s a colonel or general in some branch or another?
Actually Jeremiah was a bullfrog. He was a good friend of mine. I never understood a single word he said, but I helped him drink his wine. He always had some mighty fine wine.
Joy to the world.
Joy to all the boys and girls.
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea.
Joy to the references I don’t get.
You and me. (joy to)
“Joy to the World,” Three Dog Night, Dunhill Records, 1971.
http://grooveshark.com/s/Joy+To+The+World/3zHE9m?src=5
Joy to you and me.
If I were the king of the world, tell you what I’d do,
I wish I was half as motivated as her, bust still three halves her dimension
Oh, I have my keyboard set to Deborah.
MILF ALERT!
*KLAXON SOUNDS*
KEEP HER AWAY FROM MIKE! I REPEAT, KEEP HER AWAY FROM MIKE!
Mike has already banged her. Twice. This is a Carnival for him.
And only spent 10 cents
Check fo nickels.
So let’s see… We’ll have a bunch of Moms around Jacob, and Joe’s dad on a college campus… This might be interesting…
Damn, you beat me to this. Mom is hotter than the daughter.
“HI MOM AND DAD WHY DO YOU LOOK YOUNGER THAN I DO”
…
“OH SHI I BEEN STUDYING TOO HARD”
Dorothy’s parents had a baby when they were 5
Oh no, I STUDIED TOO LONG!
Army of Dorkness.
Good? Bad? I’m the girl with the books.
Yamiko Readman? What are YOU doing here?!
Yamiko Readman: Yomiko Readman’s dark twin. She reads the last page first.
Her hobby is reading character deaths out loud.
After writing them in the Death Note notebook?
Her best friend is Nonono Sumiregawa.
Good thing she decided to bury her nose in her textbooks instead of Walky.
I for one would be proud of my daughter if I found out she’s with a CARAMEL SCULPTURE!!!
When you have a daughter, trust me, you don’t want to see them with anyone. It’s a dad thing.
I’ve been in a similar situation. My parents called saying they were coming over. I figured I would have time to walk the girl in my room back to her dorm and be back in time to meet my parents. We get to the lobby and I find my parents sitting on the couch–they had called from the front desk.
Dina’s parents? We saw them already though. Sort of. Also, race is a factor.
I thought Dina’s parents were velociraptors (she’s adopted).
Deborah is Cute as hell, for a mom. I wanna pinch her cheeks!
On her face or the other cheek?
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
Keep telling yourself that…. >;)
Yes.
I love the big smile on her face. She just looks so geniunely happy. It’s endearing.
And of course, Deborah also has freckles.
…Hell yes.
She got freckles on her elbows too.
Mom, Why are we wearing the exact same color shirt?
Actually, Dotty’s is a shade or two more red than Deborah’s.
Dark Grape is the new black.
Woohoo! I got first vote on the newest poll. We’ve already met Joyce’s parents, but I thought the “invent the internet” joke from Joyce’s dad is one of the funniest we’ve seen so far.
When I voted it showed me as being the only vote… Hmm…
And you, of course, voted for Dina.
(I got the second vote.)
Joyce’s father is Al Gore? Holy Toledo!
More like Joyce’s dad is Stan’s dad, always getting the best joke.
It took me a little while to figure it out, but I eventually picked Roz. Really, more than anything else, this is actually just me wanting to know what kind of family Robin from Shortpacked! grew up in than actually Roz, but I’ll take a DeSanto family in either universe.

Of the ones we didn’t see in the Walkyverse, I figure Sierra’s are probably the most interesting.
I’d normally want to meet Billie’s Parents the most, but I’m gonna have to go with Sierra cuz I love her :3.
The addiction I have for this comic is unreal. Anyone got tips for the daily withdrawal I go through at 12:05 every day???
Random button, and then absentmindedly read through a chapter before you notice.
Shortpacked! (Though I think this works the other way around for a lot of folks here.)
DAMN YOU, WILLIS FANS!
I’m assuming Jeremiah is her mom and Deborah is her dad. No that’s not a typo.
…and an uncle named Sue.
She looks just like her father, except he looks more like her brother. How old are her parents anyway? About 12 when they had her?
Really?? DINA’s parents??? What the hell?
Can we get a link to this tumblr page?
I’m really excited to see Roz’s parents, I’ve got to know what combination managed to produce Robin and Roz.
Joe’s face in my avatar makes this comment seem much seedier than originally intended.
At least it wasn’t Mike.
Or Joyce.
I love Dorothy’s expression in the last panel.
He probably sent them in the right direction.
Quite a fun coincidence that this strip ended up running on Saturday.
As we all know, hair style is passed on through the mother
Or father, depending on the gender of the child. Hair color can be from either parent (but never anything different).
I’ve had this happen for family birthdays.
Maybe Dina was adopted.
WTF why does Joyce’s best friend from the first 2 strips in this comic remind me so much of Dorothy’s mum.
Freckles, the hair style, the colour is just a few hues apart…
Neither of them use glasses either.

Also Willis has a liking for freckles, and I probably noticed the freckles more than anything.
LOL
I don’t know quite why, but I find Dorothy’s mum terrifying.
Right there with you.
wow
Is it just me, or does Dorothy with her glasses off look a lot like Leslie?
Wow, she really does!
I know we all want to see more of Dina, guys, but do you really want to go down this road? If it was up to me I’d punish the voters by doing like a month of The Adventures of Dina’s Parents and Not a Damn Word About Dina Herself.
Dina wins every poll! i hereby move that she be removed from the polling as she has served far too many terms in office!
*pops popcorn* And now we wait… yes… this shall be fun.
Oh man, I found this comic on Tuesday & I just caught up now.
What do I do now?
Read the other comics that Sir Willis did/does.
PREDICTION: Dorothy is closely related to Leslie.
A girl can dream.
Deb and Jerry Keener.
They couldn’t sound more WASPy if they hired a focus group.
Is it just me or do the keener’s look like they could be dan’s parents? Which is really awkward and creepy now that I think about it.
I was disappointed that Ruth’s parents weren’t on the poll. Yes I know they’re dead and that’s the point. Zombie parents would RULE!
How cute, mom and daughter have the same phones.
