I was a MiB for SJG several years ago. I made special cards (illustrated by John Kovalic) for Chez Geek which added more explicit adult items, activities, etc. into the game. I’d run at cons later in the evening (with a disclaimer and content warning) under the name “Chez Freak.”
I’ve been considering breaking out my copy for the local dungeon’s “Kinky Geek Night.”
For those curious, Dominion is the first deck-building card game. (Basically like Magic: the Gathering but without the collectible aspect and tiered rarities. Also it’s real-time. We are all building a deck RIGHT NOW to win before any other player can.) There are now many expansions for Dominion: the link below is only to the original. FWIW, I rate Dominion a “10” on Boardgame Geek. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/36218/dominion
Munchkin is the rules-exploity aspect of RPGs, but in PvP card game format. The original is fantasy/D&D themed, but they have many varieties, Sci-Fi, Kung Fu, Superhero etcetera etcetera. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1927/munchkin
“Munchkin is the rules-exploity aspect of RPGs, but in PvP card game format.”
Nah, if it was like powergaming and rules-lawyering, your decisions would have some influence on the outcome of the game. Munchkin has only slightly more relevant player decision-making than Candyland. It’s about as much fun as rules-lawyering, though, which is to say not much fun at all.
Its the board gamers version of pretentiousness. (though to be honest, I’m not a fan of either myself, though I don’t sneer at them and will play them if other people want to. Ok, I sneer a bit at Munchkin cause its too long for what it is).
I would probably go like, Marvel Legendary or the DC Deckbuilder for Amber though. They are also coming out with TMNT Dice Masters soon! I know Shortpacked Amber was a TMNT fan, don’t think its been referenced in DoA though.
There’s second boxed set out for Epic Spell Wars, you know. “Rumble At Castle Tentakill” Standalone but compatible with Skullzfyre, pretty much more of the same with some new variations.
Its mostly that it is super random. I don’t like it much, but I’ll play it, its fairly short and it can be funny, so its not a complete waste of time. But I would rather play something that had more thought for the amount of time, or something that is just completely party game like But Wait, There’s More! or even Cards Against Humanity.
And this is of course, just commentary on my own enjoyment of the game. I would never poopoo a game that someone was having fun playing. Even if it isn’t something I like much.
To be fair, most cardgames in that class (ie light opener/closer games) tend toward the high randomness. Fluxx, Munchkin, Give Me the Brain, et al are the games you play while you wait for everyone to show up or for something to do while actually socializing because there are no meaningful stakes.
That’s a great idea. But I like to think he would release teaser panels of such a thing, claim the work is a commission that will never be publicly released yet is still canon, and then soak in the anguish expressed in the comments section.
Aaaaarg, FOOOL, have you not learned to never speek of any such awful schemes such as the one mentioned inside the walls of the unmerciful lord of despair who listning in on new heartless tings to subject the poor people of willistown to? (Runs around in circle mcduck style)
I’m thinking more like those old Looney Toons shorts with the sheepdog and the wolf. They pass eachother at the punch-clock and it’s like “Morning, Sal”, “Morning, Amber”…
Sal walks out front door (confirmed by looking at previous comic), Then Amber walks in same door minute or 2 later? Possibly how it worked; Sal walks out, walks down hall 1 way, goes around corner SAME MOMENT Amber turns/enters hall, Amber heads to room none the wiser, cast matrix-dodges drama bomb…
What she did was ” kicking the door down weilding a burning chainsaw.” That is from the comment section of Sandra and Woo when a character came out in pretty much the same way.
I vaguely remember that quote, but I don’t remember anyone at Sandra&Wo being out like that. Could someone have said this regarding Larissa, who would … if she were (but isn’t)?
The point of view from all those seated card players must be interesting – or it would be if Danny hadn’t already expressed disinterest, Ethan wasn’t gay, and Walky wasn’t Walky (and distracted by Dorothy anyway). I guess Becky can appreciate the Billie show, though.
Well, there’s another innocuous phrase I’m now permanently linking to sexual metaphor. Thanks. Needed more non-sequitur responses for when I’m asked to talk dirty.
Not so sure about that, they were face to face and talking a bit. Did Danny ever convince her that nothing happened, or does she still think Billie sexed it up with him before he started dating Amazi-Girl? Grounds for at least one-sided annoyance if the latter.
Also, I had forgotten that Mike is a giant. Must be seven feet tall in that strip.
I can’t link to the comic now, but after Amazi Girl’s encounter with Sal at the Wal Mart parking lot, Amber stumbles upon a drunk Billie outside of Ruth’s room. Amber confesses to being Amazi Girl, but Billie doesn’t believe it because “Amazi Girl is way hotter”. And then Amber helps Billie get back to bed. Billie might not remember the encounter but Amber probably does.
Playing CAH in public will get you banned from ever doing so again just about everywhere. There isn’t even a local game store around here that will let you crack out a copy during regular hours. Too easy to offend.
You have to prioritize. Clothes are important, but for a true b.o.b., food, survival gear, and weapons are more crucial. One change of clothes still is a minimum in my opinion, though.
Of course, that’s no reason you can’t have a second bag that’s specifically clothes for less dire circumstances that require a speedy relocation.
Huh. Becky can make anything look good, can’t she?
Still, Billie’s going to work this out eventually. The only important question is whether she’ll tell Ruth or just try to hold it over Joyce’s head under the delusion that this gives her some social advantage?
Meanwhile, I’ve got to say that Amber’s level of self-awareness is sometimes frightening.
Personally, I’d recommend the card game “We Didn’t Playtest This at All”. It’s always a laugh at parties (with silly rules and humorous messages at the bottom of each card), the rules are easy to understand (the rules of play are printed right on each card), and games tend to be super-quick (you can play it several times in a row at parties, or a few times at a restaurant while waiting for your food), so it’s easy to deal in a new player who wants to join.
Speaking of “our people,” it’s like I can see the rolls behind the comic.
Billie rolls a 20 on her Insight check and gets a free Opportunity Attack against Becky, but Joyce uses an interrupt, making Billie forgo that attack unless she makes a Concentration check. Billie totally rolls a 1.
I could see her being actually helpful if she knew Becky’s situation in full. She’s a pretty sympathetic character a lot of the time. If nothing else she doesn’t seem to mind throwing money at a problem, and she’s got Ruth’s ear (as well as other parts of her anatomy) when it comes to cutting Becky some slack.
Hell, maybe Ruth will surprise us all and give Becky a hand herself. There’s some grounds for empathy between them.

then Amber sees AtA and says, “Dangit, peeps, can’t we play a REAL card game, like Dominion or 6 nimmt?”

Munchkin for the win! Though… when you imagine a game of Munchkin in Willis’s world of drama…
Fluxx is an acceptable substitute if Munchkin is not available.
Honestly, in most board game circles, Munchkin and Fluxx are not seen in a positive light.
Its the board gamers version of pretentiousness. (though to be honest, I’m not a fan of either myself, though I don’t sneer at them and will play them if other people want to. Ok, I sneer a bit at Munchkin cause its too long for what it is).
True. REAL nerds would play Epic Spell Wars of The Battle Wizards: Duel At Mt. Skullzfyre.
(Yes, this is a real card game.)
Or, Love Letter.
Love Letter is a really solid small card game.
I would probably go like, Marvel Legendary or the DC Deckbuilder for Amber though. They are also coming out with TMNT Dice Masters soon! I know Shortpacked Amber was a TMNT fan, don’t think its been referenced in DoA though.

Munchkin I get. I’ve never heard anyone sneer at Fluxx, though, without without essentially saying “I think all games need deep strategy”.
Its mostly that it is super random. I don’t like it much, but I’ll play it, its fairly short and it can be funny, so its not a complete waste of time. I’m currently trying to figure out, how english-speaking people would pronounce 6 nimmt, and it’s hilarious.
The game was released in America as ‘Category 5’. Does that count as pronouncing it properly?
No, it doesn’t. Also, whose idea was that? How does that name relate to the gameplay? Or any other aspect of the game?
haha looks like Ruth’s arguing with herself

If you get six red cards, you level up and get to use Cards Against Humanity.
That is a fantastic variation on the game. I might use that, if you don’t mind.
Addendum: Once you’ve leveled up, you draw the black cards when it’s your turn to choose a round winner.
Green cards.
But what if you’re a citizen already and don’t need a green card?
When you level up, you get deported. Raises the stakes!

Hello Amber ! Since you didn’t cross Sal in the hallway I’m guessing she went back to her room before heading out. (or went out her window altogether)
Actually they probably had a really badass fight that was like 5 splash pages long we missed.
Willis will release it as one of those “optional, canonical but not at all relevant to the rest of the story” things.
You mean a Slipshine? Because it probably wasn’t that sort of fight.
Oh my !

Sal leaves as Amber enters. Drama avoided………for now. -_-
Amber is secretly Sal.
Everybody is each other!
I am Spartacus!
Wait, but if Amber is secretly Sal, and Amazi-Girl fought with Sal, then Amber can’t be Amazi-Girl!
We must dig deeper…
Actually, Amber has plenty of psychological conflict going on in her skull. I can easily see her fighting her alter-ego.
Heck, Amber may be Amazi-Girl’s nemesis.
Ha! Yeah, that was kind of a Superman/Clark Kent level of timing there.
Which is too bad … for us, anyway. Dammit.
I suddenly saw Amber and Sal passing eachother in the corridor and doing a tag in/tag out move.
I’m thinking more like those old Looney Toons shorts with the sheepdog and the wolf. They pass eachother at the punch-clock and it’s like “Morning, Sal”, “Morning, Amber”…
“Bread ‘n’ Butter”
“Bread ‘n’ Butter”

Possibly how it worked; Sal walks out, walks down hall 1 way, goes around corner SAME MOMENT Amber turns/enters hall, Amber heads to room none the wiser, cast matrix-dodges drama bomb…
Sal probably went to her room and exited through the window.
Couldn’t Sal just leave through the shared bathroom? Then she’d never have run into Amber coming in the front door.
Well she definitely left via the highly decorated front door. And it’s also clear Amber came in the front door, so that’s my guess…
..Mind you, Sal could come back in cause she forgot something, then it’ll be drama-bombs-away…
or Amber is waiting around the corner for Sal to leave… then ‘Amazi’ingly sneaks down hall to the party.
Ain’t no party like a Joyce Brown party ’cause once the drama starts it don’t stop
It don’t stop
Can’t stop won’t stop
Oh Becky. You’ll never get back into the closet.
After all, it no longer exists since she nuked it.
From orbit, no less.
It’s the only way to be sure.
I thought she just wanted into the closet so she could plant a homing beacon for her tactical nuke.
Well I can’t really say it here since you get only one hint before the character does it but it isn’t one of the main 3 children.
I wasn’t sure if I could stop laughing long enough to get past that first line.
Sal’s Amber-sense was tingling!
Sadly, one only gets Amber-sense by being stabbed by a radioactive Amber.
I guess that’s something to look forward to if a round of the knife game or mumbletypeg played with Amber goes awry.
I’ve got all my fingers
The knife goes chop, chop, chop
If I miss the spaces in between
My fingers will come off
And if I hit my fingers
The blood will soon come out
But all the same, I play this game
‘Cause that’s what it’s all about
Ohhhhh, I CHOPchopchopchopchopchopchop
I’m picking up the speed
And if I hit my fingers
Then my hand will surely bleed!
Pff, good timing Amber, couldn’t you have gotten there like, two minutes ago, when Ethan and Sal were sitting together?
Probably saw that green StreetPass light and couldn’t resist having to check for puzzle pieces.
Does this mean that Sal is secretly… Amber?
Becky, didn’t you just leave that place?
I thought she nuked it from orbit.
Why should Becky Feel “naked”? She has more on below he waist than Billie.
And for some reason this keyboard is missing a lot of keystrokes and my proofreading is not catching them all.
Why do you think all the shots of Billie are from the waist up?
The point of view from all those seated card players must be interesting – or it would be if Danny hadn’t already expressed disinterest, Ethan wasn’t gay, and Walky wasn’t Walky (and distracted by Dorothy anyway). I guess Becky can appreciate the Billie show, though.
Billie’s wearing shorts.
Maybe.
Schrödinger’s shorts?
They’re made out of cats.
Must resist urge to make obvious off colour comment . . .
Nope, not going to say it.
Someone needs to collapse that wavefunction.
I think that Ruth would be happy to modify their state. I don’t know how fast they’d be travelling after she did so, though.
“Collapse that wave function”
Well, there’s another innocuous phrase I’m now permanently linking to sexual metaphor. Thanks. Needed more non-sequitur responses for when I’m asked to talk dirty.
She is not that used to wearing such a low amount of clothes in her life.
I can’t recall, is this the first time Billie and Amber have directly interacted with each other outside of Amazi-girl shenanigans
There’s this, but I doubt either of them would recognize each other from it.
Amazi Girl knows that Danny didn’t have sex with Billie because she broke into Billie’s room to listen to the tape recording.
Oh right, forgot about that. Fair enough.
Judging by the fact Billie knows Amber is a gamer nerd, think we can safely say they remember each other.
Billie can recognize a nerd when she sees one.
Nerdar?
I can’t link to the comic now, but after Amazi Girl’s encounter with Sal at the Wal Mart parking lot, Amber stumbles upon a drunk Billie outside of Ruth’s room. Amber confesses to being Amazi Girl, but Billie doesn’t believe it because “Amazi Girl is way hotter”. And then Amber helps Billie get back to bed. Billie might not remember the encounter but Amber probably does.
And there I thought you were trolling, but, the magical amber+billie tag showed the answer.
I totally forgot about that interaction, lol.
Amber is immune to consistency.
Poor sad Billie.
Interesting that Billie guesses the correct situation (well, part of the situation) so quickly.
It’s because Billie is oblivious only to her own problems.
well, to quote Maxwell Smart on the whole Sal/Amber meeting:
“Missed by THAT much!”
Aaaaaaaaand crisis averted.
For now.

A couple of them. It’s lucky Sal left when she did or we might have a dorm room brawl on our hands now that Amber’s here.
Doubtful. I’m pretty sure the last time Sal and Amber interacted it was just brief eye contact followed by Amber running off crying into her arm.
“Can I get into the closet for a second”, after that “painful” != “my life” comic and having somehow not seen the one with Sal’s departure…
Let’s just say that wardrobe changes are not what I though of first when I read that sentence
I see I wasn’t the only one who thought that about Becky’s clothes then.
I hear it. My people have need of me and my dirty-minded Apples to Apples strategy!
Hardcore gamer nerds sneer at ATA. Way too lightweight – which is funny, considering most of them love their Cards Against Humanity.
Me and my friend aren’t allowed to play that game on campus anymore though…
Impressive. How’d you pull that off?
Playing CAH in public will get you banned from ever doing so again just about everywhere. There isn’t even a local game store around here that will let you crack out a copy during regular hours. Too easy to offend.
Look, it’s the new superhero Amazing-Timing-Girl.
The Close Call Crusader.
BILLIE SUSPECTS! Soon she may know Amber’s greatest secret: she is a NERD.
Yeah, that’s about the best kept secret since Becky’s sexual orientation.
The irony of Billie being critical of someone having wardrobe issues does not escape me.
Go Leafs.
Aww they almost cracked Billie’s facade! Well, that or she’s drunk.
Did anyone pick up on Joyce’s preturnatural peace-keeping diversion skills? That was some Mom-at-Thanksgiving level stuff.
Agreed. Overall, she clearly possesses serious hosting skills.
Yup, that was smooth, and Becky was not bad either
Becky might think she’s losing Joyce to Dorothy, but Joyce is still looking out for her best friend. It’s cute <3
And Billie is deflected from hitting the nail on the head regarding Becky’s homeless situation by Joyce….and then Amber arrives. More misdirection.
Wonder if Billie will stay sober enough to drop this little tidbit on Ruth?
Poor Becky.
Worse still, poor Joyce and Sarah.
And this is why you should always have a Bug Out Bag containing spare clothes.
Alt text is correct, I keep briefly thinking she’s in underpants. Brief, hohoho, underwear humor.
My siren song consists of any dessert-related words.

Dodged a bullet there didn’t he?
Oh look, just after Sal left. That’s convenient for everyone.
Well it’s about time something was convenient for everyone!
Heya Ben-are you the same BenRG over at FF.N by chance?
Yep!
Better then my people’s song…
no
hey look, a distraction!
Is it a demonic duck?
Billie totally rolls a 1.
she knows too much. she must be eliminated. or alcoholed-up and distracted.
now, on to the danny/amber/ethan seating position that we all came here to see!
Well Billie did bring alcohol with her so….
damn it becky!
you just basically came out the closet and nuked it and now your going back in!
damn you becky
Wait…is Becky putting on the Orange Sweater With Blood On It?
Cause if she is, Joyce will have another traumatic party experience.
You can see the tank top, meaning it’s open in the front, so I think it’s a shirt, not a sweater.
Not the Orange Sweater, this shirt is button-down, and collared at the neck. The Orange Sweater is a pull-over turtleneck.
Ah, yes, party games. I was pretty hot at Turbo Quarters back in the day.
this party will explode into fuckin sadness
“this party will explode into fuckin”
Fixed.
“Danny Sandwich?”
Billie, are you sure you want to force the topic on why certain people don’t have any clothes in their closets?
“Billie. Head cheerleader. Problem solver.” She looks genuinely concerned in this comic. I doubt she’d consider playing the game if she wasn’t.
“Give Becky a hand” heh heh.
re: the title Hey man you drew it, I don’t judge!
YES Joe avatar, perfect for my unbelievably juvenile sense of humor
No one break out Diplomacy or the entire dorm will cease speaking to each other.
does anyone inverse see amber and sal together (aside of the flashback time) ? conclusion they must be the same person !
