This is terrible logic. “Hey gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc. people everywhere; most of the world always assumes a person is straight until told otherwise. May as well just give up and go with it.”
Terrible advice in general, a couple friends of mine dated WAY longer than they meant to because everyone kept telling them how adorable they were together, and like…being cutesy with a person does not a stable relationship foundation make. But they went with it.

But really, that’s probably pretty good cover. Ruth thinks Joyce is questioning she’s not gonna read too much into Joyce’s Lesbian besty staying over a lot of nights.
Yeah, except for the fact that Billie’s aware Joyce’s lesbian besty is looking for a girlfriend, which rules out one standard excuse. (Though I guess they could say “We’re too close, it’d be like kissing a sibling” and say Becky’s trying to coach Joyce through the potentially-coming-out-to-unsupportive-family-members process.)
If Joyce is only questioning then Ruth’s probably not gonna assume there’s like a committed relationship going on here. Just a whole lot of sexytimes as Joyce very slowly comes to terms with the fact that she might not be straight. Joyce will still be publicly heterosexual throughout leaving open many reasons why Becky could be looking for a girlfriend while nailing Joyce every night.
Joyce cannot hide the truth on anything to save her life. This needs resolution fast (well, in-comic fast – it’ll still take months on our end).

By a contrived set of circumstances Ruth has come to the misunderstanding that Joyce is secretly hiding a lesbian in a room, and that exposing her or throwing her out would have negative consequences for one or both of them. Since this hits a nerv she won’t rock the boat.

I just wanted to make a suggestion to David – In the post about “Dumbing of Age: The Fourth Book Collection” there needs to be a really obvious tag saying Kickstarter somewhere so everyone knows it’s going on. I almost didn’t click the link (and the first three times I did it took me to a “page not found” anyway).
In which post? There is no post about the Kickstarter on this site as far as I know. (There probably should be.) There IS an inlined gizmo in the comments for today’s strip and previous strips, but that is not something I would tag as “kickstarter” alongside the character names. The tags are for the strip itself, not the content below.
Maybe Kickstarter could be mentioned by name in the comment (next to the inline), for people who don’t immediately go “kickstarter!” at the sight of the funded/pledged part of it?
If you back through the recent pages, you’ll see I do that routinely. And as it funded in under 12 hours, I don’t think there was any visibility problem.

Not out of character, I suppose, and sadly not uncommon or unrealistic.
How so? Ruth especially. She was suspicious because Joyce was acting guilty, then backed off as soon as she suspected read the “Questioning?” paper. Didn’t even tell anyone else what it was.
Billie was a bit worse, but even she backed off quickly. Neither of them told anyone else or attacked Joyce for it.
Both of them were really trying to distract from their own secret.
OK, “absolutely horrible” is unfair, but their reaction would still be hurtful. A little “sorry” wouldn’t be amiss if you unbidden learn someone’s deep secret by snatching a paper from their hand.

Walky’s comment was Saturday evening of Week Three. (The Parentpocalypse was Saturday 3/Sunday 4.) Today is Saturday of Week Four.

This has been by far the longest DoA week in real time. It’s the first since Week One where we haven’t had a multi-day timeskip, and there was a lot less going on back in Week One. The first three weeks ran pretty consistently about a year of real time; this one’s almost a year and a half already, and we’ve only barely started Saturday.
Wow, sorry, didn’t realize. Wait, then it really HAS taken that long to get through a week? Damn, takes a while…
