Focusing on the US, Trump’s lost momentum and support and is increasingly having trouble doing shitty stuff. The Senate margin is razor-thin. There’s a blue wave building. The military trans ban is gone. Pot is being increasingly legalized (meaning less incarceration). Society is actually giving a damn about sexual harassment. The economic recovery’s finally reached the lower economic classes. Minimum wages are rising. And since Trump got the three months he needed to get a clear picture of what’s going on, the travel ban’s gotta be going away any day now, right?
I N that. No doubt at all that this is the best thing I’ll see on my screen all day.

I won’t lie – that last panel made me tear up a little bit. It’s just so sweet. Count me as one of the readers who is REALLY rooting for Billie and Ruth.
I’m more maudlin than usual because today (well, actually yesterday now) is also my 17th year anniversary with my partner. Before I met him I’d paid for a hotel room in Boston for New Year’s Eve 1999. (And I am TOTALLY dating myself here!) At the time you had to make reservations a year or more in advance. When I booked the room I assumed it would be for me and my then-current partner. But things went to h3ll with him unexpectedly quickly. I didn’t want to give up the hotel reservation so I decided I was going to invite all my friends and we’d have a party for the millenium in the hotel room. My friends at the time included my now-current partner. He and I were very good friends and sometimes flirted with each other but hadn’t hooked up and I wasn’t sure it was going to go beyond friendship. Well, ten or so people in a hotel room is a LOT – I landed up basically sitting in my current partner’s lap. One of our other friends looked at us and asked, “So, how long have you two been together?” We stared at each other and said, “UM….” But that was kind of the moment when we realized we were more than friends.
And we’re still more than friends…17 years later.

I just got up and read the strip, so I have to say 2018 is looking good so far.
These two have shown considerable capacity for mutual destruction. It is becoming clear that there is considerable capacity for mutual healing as well.
I know that happy couples make for poor stories, but please Mr Willis, bore me to death with productive RA/student days and candlelight evenings. I’m such a jerk, I deserve to see them thrive unto their grandkid years.

other things that can happen at Forest Hall:
– only personally Lucy gets hurt/alienated by the hero worship, and Billie has to do damage control on that;
– Billie eventually comes to realize she doesnt /actually/ like being treated this way;

I totally identify with this. My husband and I didn’t “date” until long after we were together, so our first actual-for-real-dates were that much more special. This feels like a lovely, warm nostalgia hug.
YESS I am so happy with their progress. Ruth is getting help and not hating herself right now. Billie is still into the relationship even with it taking this healthier turn for normal and happy. I was so afraid she was going to recoil at this idea of a normal cute date. I bet this was just the reassurance Ruth needed that Billy still cares about her.
