well, it’s good she’s cooled down. tho at this point i think joyce has kissed more ppl than sarah has all throughout, even if yo udon’t count becky. not saying sarah ‘needs to get laid’ (well maybe not as crudely but i’m sure her own relationship even if it’s a quick fling might make things better for her own benefit)
This comic fills me with the urge to do the Game Grumps “Spider Kiss” meme all over this chat.
I shall refrain, aside from this one comment, but truly… the desire burns within me.
I enjoy Sarah, but she’s been worse lately. I want her to go back to gimmicky-mean and not actually mean. (We all have moments we’re actually mean, you know what I’m trying to say)
I do think Sarah had ramped up her over proteciveness because at the start of the school year when Joyce had her first date with Joe even though Sarah didn’t like joes intentions she didn’t interfere. Now she’s acting like Joyce getting her heart broken is going to be the end of the world.
well i wouldn’t be surprised if she still had more passive aggressive jabs like “don’t come crying to me if he breaks your heart/you get pregnant” (well we know joyce is on birth control but still)
She doesn’t really seem any meaner than usual. I know many don’t like Sarah, but I’ve found her recent hijinks and quick jabs rather fun lately. She’s not exactly meaner per se, but snarkier and wittier. I don’t think it will come to the point of her making a comment as nasty as the one Angel suggests. That would be cruel and she’s never come across as that to me. If we’re talking ranking main characters by meanness it’ll always be Jennifer at the top, who makes Sarah look like a sweetheart in comparison.
Maybe not mean, but INSANELY insensitive lately. Between her arguments with Lucy and her repeated attempts to use other people as cudgels to get what she wants, especially when it’s none of her fucking business, she’s been a bit grating of late.
I agree, I think she’d probably not say that to Joyce. Something cruel and kind of deserved to Joe, perhaps.
Sarah is blunt, abrasiveness, and cynical, and not actually wrong in a lot of the blunt, abrasive, and cynical things she says. Not wrong to the point of trying to be helpful sometimes. Like when she tells Lucy it’s not worth dating Walky if his parents are going to be colorist, and he (and Lucy) won’t stand up to them directly.
The abrasiveness rubs a lot of the characters, and a lot of the readers, the wrong way. But some of the characters, like Dina, and some of the readers find her charming, in her own way. For the same traits that others dislike.
Dina finds her directness helpful. What Dina found charming was that Sarah didn’t need to be constantly talking, so it was okay to be in the same space and not talk. Something tells me Dina wouldn’t find what she’s been up to as charming. As for the screed she gave Lucy, Lucy and Walky are/were trying to make their relationship work. Sarah’s “advice” was to fuck Walky then dump him and get it over with.
She really has taken on Mike’s role of being a horrible asshole whose entire existence hinges on being right 1% of the time and using that to justify the remainding 99% of abuse they throw out.
Feels more like a detente, following the encounter with Jacob, and Joe not matching her expectations. Could change if she finds out about him and Liz, or if he screws up.
Acceptance can be even more daunting than dissent.
Which Bujold is it where it turns out that what’s worse than being criticised by Cordelia is being critiqued by her? (Mirror Dance, maybe? Mark on one of the comparatively-lesser consequences of his raid on Jackson’s Hole, I want to say?)
Because I can absolutely see Sarah developing as a Willisverse Cordelia. Oh hells yes.
Joyce’s first kiss in the Walkyverse was a rain scene. This time she’s actually upside down in relation to her lover. Not sure if the Spider-Man movie was earlier than It’s Walky!
That was the joke, but Spiderman feels like one of those superheroes that evangelical churches love to rip off for bible passage pamphlets. I didn’t grow up religious, but I vaguely remember something like that, or adjacent to it, in the 90s and early 00s stuffed in the letterboxes.
I’ve been saying this for years. Rewind the tape far enough, I guarana tea I’ve said some shit about Joyce having an immaculate rackulate. The lass is comely.
well sarah does care about joyce but since getting worked up about it didn’t help i can imagine her going the apathetic route like “well, you dating someone will mean you won’t annoy me as much/stay out of my hair”
Huh. I’ve never attempted the Spidey kiss because I thought it seemed silly for a non-superhero person to try, but you’re selling me here and now I’m gonna have to think of an organic way to suggest it to a partner.
Wow, I’m reading it again and having thus guessing:
And Joyce’s position in last panel…Arms opened, legs crossed…
Joe’s bowed, kissing a person “nailed” in an inverted-cross!
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
Vote for Sara’s first sentence as next book/chapter/whateverthedivisionis title. I’m not going back to see if there’s a better one. But this should at least be considered.

The plantation burning reminds me of when the residential school burnt down in Shubenacadie.
I was very young. Not understanding why we were all there watching a scary looking building burning. Cars lined up all over both sides of the road. It seemed like the entire rez population (1)
Someone is citing the MA constitutional provision explicitly allowing the state to impede federal marshals enforcing the fugitive slave act, DAMN the average citizen is radicalized
you’re laughing. the largest antebellum plantation house burned down & there are brides who will not get to spiritually absorb the poisoned spectral energy of the land for their big day, & you’re laughing.
Me if I ever see Tony Hawk: Hey you’re Tony Hawk the famous skateboarder. That’s right I recognise you. Won’t be able to get any content out of this will you, you piece of shit
How to read all 28 issues of my Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane run on Marvel Unlimited:
1: The first four issues were published as the miniseries "Mary Jane."
www.marvel.com/comics/serie...
phew…I thought they could take more 20 or 30 strips to kiss each other.
Right-o. But now how many kisses will it take before they strip each other?
I know what you mean but I initially thought you mean that they’d be making out for 20-30 consecutive strips.
I mean, it’s not Webtoons or something.
A DBZ montage of like 27 strips of them slowly moving in would’ve been chef’s kiss.
*show of hands*
…
“THEY OVERLAP!”
No Joe that’s how you’ll get a hunchback, that posture
well, we know he works out so hopefully it’d be fine in the long run lol unless joyce demands it this way every time XD
Eh, he’s young, he’ll be fine… unless this is really awakening something in Joyce (or Joe for that matter) and they do it a lot.
He’s just looking for some SANCTUAAAARYYYY~~~! …Sorry, I’ll show myself out.
I think he’s okay with that.
God… Dammit, Sarah.
Man, just look at Joyce’s hand reach up for Joe’s wrist. God, this is so pure.
well, it’s good she’s cooled down. tho at this point i think joyce has kissed more ppl than sarah has all throughout, even if yo udon’t count becky. not saying sarah ‘needs to get laid’ (well maybe not as crudely but i’m sure her own relationship even if it’s a quick fling might make things better for her own benefit)
She’s going to be a lawyer someday, so she’s gotta respect the adherence to guidelines.
…do heads not count as a body part?
I think some heads are more a part of the body than others.
must be that mind-body dualism
In this context, ‘body’ refers to the main portion not including the head nor limbs. This is one of several valid definitions of the word.
i think she just means they’re not straddling each other, since your heads would kinda have to ‘overlap’ to kiss
I think we’re overthinking it. ^_^
This comic is very good at cute romance stuff.
This is their first kiss, right? Am I missing one prior?
I think it is.
Unless you count a kiss on the cheek? I think there was a kiss on the cheek at some point?
there was a peck to show interest. This is the first time they’re kissing each other, to show intimacy. It’s like https://www.dumbingofage.com/press/ and https://www.dumbingofage.com/introduced/
God I miss Mike.
Same.
joyce first watched spiderman while laying on her side
This comic fills me with the urge to do the Game Grumps “Spider Kiss” meme all over this chat.
I shall refrain, aside from this one comment, but truly… the desire burns within me.
Dear Diary,
Now I am an atheist, I can do perverse sexual positions such as the Horizontal Spiderman.
So maybe she’ll let it go… *wishful thinking*
I enjoy Sarah, but she’s been worse lately. I want her to go back to gimmicky-mean and not actually mean. (We all have moments we’re actually mean, you know what I’m trying to say)
I don’t know, but the truth is I see the same Sarah as always, but with a little more intensity for a fairly obvious reason (Joe)
I do think Sarah had ramped up her over proteciveness because at the start of the school year when Joyce had her first date with Joe even though Sarah didn’t like joes intentions she didn’t interfere. Now she’s acting like Joyce getting her heart broken is going to be the end of the world.
Sarah is definitely more protective of her little sister than she was of the new roommate she’d just met.
well i wouldn’t be surprised if she still had more passive aggressive jabs like “don’t come crying to me if he breaks your heart/you get pregnant” (well we know joyce is on birth control but still)
She doesn’t really seem any meaner than usual. I know many don’t like Sarah, but I’ve found her recent hijinks and quick jabs rather fun lately. sure, argue with me that my opinion of a character is wrong if you want, when I *just* said that some people find charming what you find distasteful.
Sarah’s thinking all lawyery. You’ve got precedent, and no amount of time, experience and pain changes the precedent. *gavel bang*
So what are the odds that this diffused Sarah’s anger at the situation?
It could also have been her conversation with Jacob, who told Sarah that Joe was actually into joyce.
Sarah doesn’t so much get less angry that she gets apathetic and bitter about it.
“Eh, make your mistakes, I’ll be here waiting when it all goes to pot.”
*plays “Dreams Come True” from Sailor Moon Soundtrack CD*
“It’s In His Kiss”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM5qIJdBtX0
Huh, I was expecting blind fury from Sarah. However her being that calm walking in on this makes me worry.
Am I alone in that thought?
Maybe she’s trying to try something different, you know, an anger hidden with serenity and thus attack in a surprising way.
Feels more like a detente, following the encounter with Jacob, and Joe not matching her expectations. Could change if she finds out about him and Liz, or if he screws up.
That”s right…. Liz.
I forgot about her, well, the drama continues here hehehe
She prolly cooled off after being flustered with jacob
And this scene is so silly that Joe can’t be pulling some kind of suave seduction. It’s really so in character for Joyce and so cute.
Just put some faith on her, like people like to say to Joe
Evidence of consent so clear even Sarah is like “dammit I have to accept that”
“It’s proof beyond a reasonable doubt alright.”
*squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
Sarah you are one of my favorite characters but I need you to go away
*eeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
While this should come with much fanfare, I REALLY wanted a facehugger method of kissing
Got Joyce pinned to the floor tho –3–
bro they’re spider-man kissing 🥺
it is so cute
Joyce’s first kiss in the Walkyverse was a rain scene. This time she’s actually upside down in relation to her lover. Not sure if the Spider-Man movie was earlier than It’s Walky!
Is this Joyce’s first consensual kiss?
No, wait, the kiss with Jacob was sorta consensualish…
she had a couple reciprocal kisses with ethan, actually
It’s her first kiss where nobody got hurt by it.
Sarah is RIGHT THERE. It could very easily happen…
I guess I should say directly hurt by it. https://www.dumbingofage.com/first/
https://www.dumbingofage.com/hindsight/
https://www.dumbingofage.com/wanted/
Aww, even Sarah admits it.
Was Joyce even allowed to watch Spider-Man?
She’s not wrong.
Part of me wants to squee at this going on.
The other part wants Sarah to be coming in on the first panel and overhearing conversation.
KISSES 🥰
that is all
“If I knew who Spiderman was I’d maybe make a joke about it.”
I’m going to assume you’re joking and move on.
I believe the joke is because Joyce was so sheltered from non-Christian media like Spider-Man, she would be the one saying that
That was the joke, but Spiderman feels like one of those superheroes that evangelical churches love to rip off for bible passage pamphlets. I didn’t grow up religious, but I vaguely remember something like that, or adjacent to it, in the 90s and early 00s stuffed in the letterboxes.
Don’t tell Sarah about Joyce grinding enough on Joe to need to go change.
To be fair, it turns out that wasn’t actually very much grinding!
Joyce + Joe: 1
Walky + Lucy: 0
Yeah, shove it on the face…
Hot.
So the kiss version of a Christian Side-hug?
I’m gonna ruin this romance by saying an on-brand comment.
Joyce is kinda stacked, huh?
“I mean, well, okay, if we’re going to use descriptions I can’t affirm without involving human resources.”
That’s not a denial
I don’t think it’s meant to be. It’s a silent confirmation.
I’ve been saying this for years. Rewind the tape far enough, I guarana tea I’ve said some shit about Joyce having an immaculate rackulate. The lass is comely.
To be fair I’m sure I have too. (and definitely drawn something to that effect) It’s just very noticeable in this particular comic.
I’m sure Joe has said the same… well, minus the “lass” part.
He says lass. he just drops the “L”
Since the episode of laundry machine, I can’t stop thinking about it.
… also, you have contributed heavily with this perception, thank your art.
That’s a fact.
You might even say, “Shortstacked”? Nailed it.
Didn’t Amazi-Girl and Danny have some kind of dangling related making out? Don’t recall if inversion was involved.
More than making out.
when you’re too wholesome; even Sarah can’t get mad
well sarah does care about joyce but since getting worked up about it didn’t help i can imagine her going the apathetic route like “well, you dating someone will mean you won’t annoy me as much/stay out of my hair”
How could she GET mad when she was ALREADY mad?
“Joyce-est.” Classic.
Way better than Joy-cest.
joy-cest sounds dirty lol.
It’s what you call Nurse Joys making out.
How -many- Nurse Joys
Two or more.
The reason Joyce likes the Spidey kiss would indeed be because no hanky-panky parts were touching.
Also, kissing in that position is more pleasurable than the usual face-to-face position. More contact with the taste-bud sides of the tongues.
Huh. I’ve never attempted the Spidey kiss because I thought it seemed silly for a non-superhero person to try, but you’re selling me here and now I’m gonna have to think of an organic way to suggest it to a partner.
I recommend it.
The way it happened for me: I was lying on a couch and the lady bent over the arm of the couch for the, ah, spidey kiss.
you’re such a person of experience…
Also more undersides of the tongues
Tongue? I hope Joyce knows that’s coming. If she’s unaware, she’s gonna heave her guts right into Joe’s mouth
Well…….. she might be a former religious fanatic, but still………
…. she got him to bow down, didn’t she? Heh. Its definitely cute, and ironic.
“Check out THIS temple,” ykno?
Wow, I’m reading it again and having thus guessing:
And Joyce’s position in last panel…Arms opened, legs crossed…
Joe’s bowed, kissing a person “nailed” in an inverted-cross!
Even Sarah must admit that this is cute and romantic af
“Fine, MAYBE you’re a nice couple after all”
Sarah, just swap roomates with Lucy. You’ll get everything you want.
Oh good, Sarah’s back. Yaaaaay /s
I’m sincerely glad Sarah is back
Oh good, Sarah’s back. Yaaaaay!
I don’t know what I like more: Their hands in panel 4 or their eyes opening in the last.
RIP Joe {int.currentYear – 18} – {int.currentYear}
It’d probably be {int.currentYear – 19}, actually, since we’re on the Spring semester now.
True! Good bug report.
*Distant feral screaming*
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
The way it looks like Joe is pinning Joyce to the ground I’m honestly surprised Sarah isn’t jumping to conclusions and jumping Joe.
Penultimate panel Joyce: eye closed and enjoying the kiss. Last panel Joyce’s: eyes wide open wondering if she should panic.
A 12 year slow burn! Willis you’re worse than shoujo manga! Lol
they’re doing the Spiderman kiss
SPIDERMAN KISS YEAH
This is adorable.
Joe needs to show Joyce the Raimi Spider-Man movie.
Holding her down by her wrists? Kinky.
(i don’t think he’s actually really holding her down but it is kinda hot^^)
The difference from 3rd to 4th panel is Joyce getting more relaxed.
Take a look by her neck. Her head is a bit uplifted.
She’s also holding Joe’s wrist, albeit at a bit of an awkward angle.
Joyce: “Dina, Joe and I kissed! ”
Dina: “BECKY AND I TOTES F___ED THE S__T OUT OF EACH OTHER!”
I doubt Joyce would have a good comeback for that.
“I hope not literally”
All I can say is, we’re getting a WEALTH of cute Joyce faces. I don’t know how I could possibly choose between.
5 bucks says the next panel will have Joyce suddenly darting up and accidentally headbutting Joe in the process.
Tobey Maguire would be proud.
That’s saying something. Usually you can count on Sarah to find something to be mad about.
*airhorn noises* LET’S FUCKIN GOOOOOOOOOOOOO *more airhorn noises*
Vote for Sara’s first sentence as next book/chapter/whateverthedivisionis title. I’m not going back to see if there’s a better one. But this should at least be considered.
