When not on my medication my ADHD brain has this little annoying quirk where i walk in room forget why i was in the room and takes me 30 seconds to remember why I was in the room. Apparently it’s a common thing with people with ADHD.
It’s called Doorway Effect and is pretty common, actually. Happens more often the older you get. The mere action of walking through a door (or even something like changing windows on your computer) sometimes wipes your short term memory because it’s not associated with the new space you just entered due to how our brains compartmentalize stuff.
I either go back to the last room or imagine I’m there.
Thank you now I have a name for it. I guess it’s worse if you have adhd but I noticed that effect seems to diminish when I am on concerta(no dah its a stimulant) then when I am not concerta. Any way this really helps so thanks again.
One good way to address it is to remind yourself what you’re doing when you walk through a doorway or go up/down stairs. Works for me! …when I remember to remind myself lol
I am not currently on any medication, but I am looking for a new psychiatrist so I can try again, and sometimes I walk into a room and never remember why I walking into the room, so trust me I understand your struggle.
My usual DM said the other day, said:
“Being able to teleport would be a sick power, but I’d end up having the “why am I in the kitchen again” on a much larger scale
I’d be in the middle of fucking Africa wondering why I went there to begin with”
And that’s a wild-ass thing to consider.

To make matters worse, I can’t even get Ritalin in California anymore.
That really sucks that you can’t get the meds you need hopefully you and your doctor can find an alternative.
CA seems to be hit by the DEA’s callousness the hardest, ADHD meds of any kind aren’t available here at ALL. If only it were legal to have them delivered from other states.
Thankfully I got caffeine and select cannabis strains like Blue Hawaii to self-medicate, not quite as effective as Ritalin but they work for the time being. Thanks for sympathies bruh. 🥲
Where you diagnosed during the pandemic by a telecom beacuse from what I have been reading the FDA relaxed prescription requirement ls during the pandemic which led to an uptake in perceptions, leading to the shortage and now the DEA has begun investigating one of the telehealth companies.
Not sure if this is the case in Cali but in NY my pyschraist switched back to in person visits . Is it possible for you to get an in person visit with a pyschtrist if you were diagnosed you can take that daignosis to another pyschrist. I don’t know if that helps.

Unfortunately I cant do in-person, and regardless it wont change the fact that pharmacies are all out of ADHD meds.
You could also try a stimulant dose of kratom. The effect of one of those is why I’m going to talk to my psych about upping my Adderal dosage. Although I’m going to be telling her it was a few cups of what I thought was decaff but turned out not to be to avoid awkward conversations and the possibility of my adderal being taken away entirely since kratom is unfairly demonized.
From what I can tell it all involves a Telecom mental Healthcare company based in California called Cereberal who was accused by a whistle blower that they where encourage to over prescribed ADHD medication during the pandemic when regulations on prescribing medication over telecom was loosened. Any way the DOJ has launched an investigation this kind might have had cascading effect it lookks like other telecom mental healthcare companies have stoped prescribing.

well socks i can understand but other than like crocs? maybe or open toed shoes/etc, i feel like you’d def notice/it would def feel diff /noticeable when you put them on but i guess someone like walky would be unbothered til it startedh urting his feet lol

well, i guess there’s not much diff from left and right socks (unless you have like ‘toe’ socks i guess) but my parents always were uptight about me wearing mismatched socks and now ppl make mismatched patterns on purpose lol
I have two pairs of “Feegle Feet” Discworld socks. A few weeks ago, I noticed I was wearing both the left ones, and it bugged me slightly. Although not enough to remember this before I noticed a few days later that I was wearing both the right ones.
I also used to have a pair of orange and green Odd Socks from Ireland. I always thought it would be fun to have two pairs of those and wear same-colour ones. It looks like your socks match but they actually don’t!
I am told that there is a vitally important difference in if you put on both socks before you put on a shoe, or put one one sock and one shoe with the other foot bare.
One of these methods is used by all decent right-thinking people, and the other is used by unspeakably evil monsters determined on the corruption of all that is good and pure.
Sorry, I can never recall which is which.

It’s just the Dad so far, he is the good cop. But he seemed to like Amber quite a bit! Even not-terrible parents might have a hard time with the girlfriend carousel whiplash.
It’s worth noting that the “good cop” in the good cop/bad cop routine is still not on your side, they’re just not as awful as the other one. That said, is it just me, or is Charles negging Walky’s commitment to Lucy in panel 4 (just like he was talking up Amber in private at their last meeting)?
I don’t think that’s the right use of “negging”, unless you mean to say Charles is intentionally putting down his own son with insults to it’s easier to break down his self esteem and make him more vulnerable to a bad relationship

). It’s just that Charles was being pro Amber at their last meeting, and now seems to be leading with that Walky isn’t “pro Lucy” at this meeting?
Like I said the thing to remember about the “good cop/bad cop” thing is that neither of them are on your side, and Charles has only been a “good cop” (or so far as we’ve seen) by being silent rather than actively supporting Linda.
Always remember the “good” cop in a good cop/bad cop routine is still a cop and it’s all a bit to make you confess to something. Whether you did it or not is irrelevant as long as you say what they want to hear. This is why you don’t speak to cops without a lawyer present to advocate on your behalf.

I guess we can all read as much or as little as we want into that, but I think comparisons are inevitable.
he was intentionally trying to tank their opinion of amber, and she wasn’t at all invested in making a good impression, so there was some latitude there. here walky has been bracing himself and lucy for a bunch of microaggressive racism, and he has an actual emotional investment in this not hurting lucy, so he’s a lot more muted.
I’ve got a lot of sympathy for Walky there. I’ve never been at all good with articulating what I like about someone, especially when put on the spot. Even more especially when if was to parents and I had a complicated relationship with them.
It’s not necessarily a sign that you don’t really like them.

I’m genuinely interested in how Charles is going to navigate this.
He seems to like Amber more, specifically because of what she was willing to do, and I’m wondering how much that’ll affect him and Lucy.
He’s right to like Amber more, in the context of potential girlfriends for Walky… Look at Walky’s interactions with her, especially his heated defense of her at the prior dinner, vs Walky’s interactions with Lucy.
Lucy&Walky is a ship that’s in dangerous shoals, and apparently without a captain nor crew aboard. It’s really only a miracle that it hasn’t sunk already, but it’s days seem fated.
I disagree, Amber/Walky feeds into their worse qualities.
Lucy/Walky is both of them ignoring real issues too, but in a different way.
well he has joked about a polycule before so that owuld be interesting, it’s already awkward enough with his exes but imagine telling your parents you’re dating 3 other ppl, unless they’re very open minded i guess most ppl would be taken aback or stereotypically in the other way like “hell yeah my son’s got 3 women chasing after him” lol
I think he likes his son, wants to be supportive, and is trying to find the good in whoever David’s chosen to include in his life.
I think after his interaction with Sal he is going to desperately try and back up Walky so he doesn’t lose them both.
Really really hoping we get a conversation between these three without Linda present. The only way either of his kids are ever gonna break through to him is if they can talk to him without Linda getting a word in edgewise.

Once again Charles manages to be just nice enough to make me question whether he’s really cut from the same cloth as his wife. Is he just teasing Walky? Or is he looking for more reasons to push him towards that nice white girl? Who the fuck knows, but either way his parenting skills could use work!
Charles’ problem has never been that he’s like Linda. The problem is his complacency with her actions. Good cop, bad cop as Sal noted. He can be as kind and funny as he wants but he still lets Linda be a jerk mom.
I think that’s a definite problem, sure. I’m just not sure if there isn’t something else going on in addition to his constantly enabling his wife’s abusive behavior.
I agree, if only because he’s not just an enabler of Linda’s behavior—he has hinted that he fully supports it. He had the same opinion as Linda about what kind of BF Sal would have (I.e., shocked that Danny wasn’t a tatted-up rocker), and he has been the only one to verbalize disappointment with Sal keeping her hair natural instead of straightening it.
Some jerks are loud about it, but others are nice to your face and mysteriously disappear when they have to pick sides or their potentially jerkiness is called out. In the moment, the nice ones are easier to deal with, especially when they are near-strangers. But if I’m someone thinking about marrying into this family via Sal or Walky? Give me a Linda over a Charles any day of the week. We’ll have a screaming match at Christmas and then I’ll keep my distance for 5 years while it slowly dawns on her that access to grandkids is dependent on how I feel about her. Works out.
I think the worst part of enabling his wife while being friendly is the false hope it gives. Like how when Sal showed up and he was initially respectful to her correction for how to address her but then quickly turned into a bystander, acting like Sal was a stranger the minute Linda got angry and continued to address her as Sally. Someone who doesn’t have a life time of experiencing that behaviour will be more likely to come back for more of the same treatment thinking they have one possible alley.
Maybe he is wondering if there is a third girlfriend. Or a fourth. When will it stop? If they visit next week there will be three more.
Soon Walky will be dating the entire student population of the college. The guys too.

There’s something internalized and/or implicit going on with Charles, but I don’t think that’s how he sees Lucy. He sees Lucy as the right kind of girl to impress parents. Or maybe it does effect how he sees Lucy and she incidentally checks his respectability boxes.
But he absolutely doesn’t think Amber is “that nice white girl”. She did crimes for Walky, talked about mpreg transformers at length at dinner in public, and stabbed his daughter. He knows she’s the wrong kind of girl to impress the parents, but that Walky and her have chemistry together.
Me saying ‘nice white girl’ was meant as a general jab at people who say they can forgive anything as long as the person’s skin is the correct color. Which may or may not be happening with Charles in regard to Amber.
Or he just feels like he lost his daughter so he’s really trying to take cues from his son to keep one.
Never underestimate the power of knowing which shoe goes on which foot, Charles! For Walky, Lucy could be seen as a Sorceress Supreme!

They did get what they wanted. She definitely helps with dressing Walky, but she is far more interested in undressing Walky. Not that I blame her.
Unless the cartoons are robots having sex, Charles isn’t interested.

I think people are too harsh on Charles sometimes. He’s being polite to Lucy, and I think it’s only natural that he has some questions after yesterday. Walky and Amber showed a lot of chemistry, and here he is talking about Lucy liking the same cartoons as him.
I question myself about the differences of treatment of Charles and Joyce’s father when he was still married to Carole.
I mean, Joyce’s dad is a fundie so expectations are a bit lower than from a normal guy like Charles.
I’ll be less harsh on Charles when he does something about the way Linda treats their children.
i’ve never understood how it’s possible to put shoes on the wrong foot. like, they’re completely different shapes. if i put on my shoe and it curves the wrong way around my foot, i’m gonna notice immediately.

There are some shoes that aren’t shaped that differently from eachother, but still
large feet = large shoes with less difference, especially sneakers. I for one will notice but my kids won’t.
A long time ago, shoes were made with much less… I suppose refinement is the right word. A shoe was made so it could fit either foot, and as a person wore them they’d take the shape of that person’s foot gradually.
While I don’t know if the saying dates back to those halchyon days or not, it would make a lot of sense if it did.
My 2-year-old is working on getting her shoes on the correct foot! She’ll put them on and then ask me if they’re on the right feet. I don’t know if she notices how weird it feels to have them backwards. There’s been a couple times when she got it backwards and just walked awkwardly for a while until I figured out what was wrong.
In conclusion, my 2-year-old is a lot like Walky.

I’ve been having better luck with mens’ sizes because they’re wider (yes some people technically make wide womens’ shoes but I have had Bad Experiences) but not many of them are *small* enough for me, so I might have to look into boys’ sizes next…
Yup. Overly padded, squishy, narrow sneakers bother me. I like a thin, flexible shoe without a ton of padding, but I need a wide toebox and a relatively narrow heel.
After experimenting with different brands, I’ve switched almost exclusively to Xero. Their sneakers have wider toe boxes than most other manufacturers, and their soles are flat and have a low stack height. I went most of the last couple summers with their sandals, which aren’t much more than a rubber mat and a piece of string or nylon webbing. After a while you almost forget they’re there.
Merrell are a close second, and about the most minimal you’re going to find at a regular store. Vibrams are as comfortable as they are stupid-looking.

Every woman Walks dates is having him dress a bit better. That “shoes on the right feet” falls into the category of “sartorial improvements” is a thing.
Bars not exactly high with walky but , other than the complaints/any grumpiness about his kinda lifestyle, buying clothes together with a partner might be a fun bonding experienced if they actually enjoyed it versus “well, i guess it helps me look presentable but i’m only going to put effort into special occasions”

well now that linda doesn’t approve sal, she also doesn’t accept sal’s approval of lucy
it’s possible she could be getting snacks, or arranging for better seats, even if she removes her approval of lucy i’m sure she’d still wanna spend time with walky
and also an opportunity to take out all her emotions about sal on lucy to whether it’ll scare her off or make her try harder for walky (and the parents) affections
