At the time the first movie was made, we did not know birds are avian dinosaurs. Dinosaur knowledge has advanced aggressively since that movie, in part because of the movie. What bothered me so much at the time was calling Deinonychus “Velociraptor” and creating legions of confidently incorrect casual dinosaur fans. Velociraptors were awesome vicious murder turkeys, dang it.
Actually, frogs, at the time the movie was made, were some of the easiest animals to genetically engineer. So it wasn’t about accuracy of genome, it was about ease of access. Speaking as someone who has actually worked in bio-research, it honestly made perfect since at that point (just, you know, not a lot of other points.)
Funny thing, the original novel had a similar line–there’s a point where one of hte scientists reflects on how they tinkered with the DNA (behind the rich dude’s back, even) in order for them to be more marketable, rather than realistic. Specifically, he notes that they’ve been made more active and aggressive, because megafauna just lazing around all day isn’t going to get much repeat business.
Sorry to correct you, but the lines in the original Jurassic Park novel are the opposite. Dr. Wu suggests to Hammond that they could slow the dinosaurs down, he’s worried that people aren’t used to seeing animals that big move that fast, that people might think they look like sped up film. He suggests making more docile dinosaurs that are easier to handle, and fit in more with what the average person expects.

I don’t know about why Thag Simmons remembered that comic, but, I read Willis comics before going to sleep and upon waking up (which is, incidentally, a great way to memorize things), I have always hyperfocused on reading, and DoA often hits my strongest interests (comics, art, religions, psychology, neurodivergence).
I have an actively terrible memory for everything else, which I’ve been to doctors about, so, a strong memory isn’t always correlated with encyclopedic knowledge of DoA.

… i mean willis has said before that character’s sexualities are universal and retroactively canon to all comic continuities, right? in shortpacked there was an arc where that rule was relevant to the storyline and featured an alternate universe amber that was attracted to rachel. so if that amber can be attracted to women, then it suggests that it’s likely this amber could also be attracted to women but has yet to be in circumstances where it’d occur to her. maybe if she saw rachel doing gymnastics or something.

Yep. There’s probably a lot of reasons. Some of the ones I’ve heard or personally experienced:
1. Misogyny + internalized homophobia + whatever you call the toxic cocktail of societal conditioning that so often makes sapphic people feel guilty to the point of nauseous over being attracted to women. You feel like you’re objectifying other women. Taking women entirely out of the smut equation helps.
2. Gender identity stuff. A lot of sapphic people run the gamut from gender-nonconforming to transmasc. Butch is a gender identity for a LOT of people. These folks identify more with m/m characters.
3. F/F content is still primarily created by and for straight men, and that can make it very alienating for sapphic people. (This is not a criticism of straight men for making porn they like, I don’t care about that, it’s not a real problem.)
Meanwhile, M/M content is primarily made by and for queer people. The gay porn industry is by and for gay men, m/m erotica is by a broader range of people (plenty of whom are transmasc, for the record).
Queer content that comes from someone like you is a lot more relatable, whoever “you” might be, so folks tend to seek it out.
Even if we assumed Amber was queer because she had queer friends, which I personally wouldn’t do, I’d probably assume gender related stuff before sexuality related stuff

Ngl, I never considered Dorothy/Amazi-girl, but I’m way more down with that than Dorothy/Joyce. Plus I think a Dorothy/Amazigirl/Amber/Walky polycule would work WAY better than any trying to include Dorothy and Joe around the same love interest (I do not see her actively trying to sabotage Amber). Especially because Amber, despite kind of being terrible at communication, weirdly buffs the communication stats of the people around her like a passive effect.

That’s not how I read the posts they’ve made with unused comics at all.
They did use the phrase “murdered in its crib” about Joe/Joyce, but that version of events has Joe explicitly offer to step aside for Dorothy and Dorothy turn him down. It’s a version of events where Willis wanted to keep the status quo, which was teasing Dorothy/Joyce but keeping it ambiguous.
I don’t think “murdered” or “blown up” (by a Dorothy drama bomb) necessarily meant the Joe/Joyce relationship ENDED, just irrevocably altered, before they’d even had a nice dinner together.
It’s still possible that we’ll get something someday where Joe is actually worried about corrupting Joyce, because Joyce has changed a lot since they started dating (mostly in superficial ways or in ways that were a long time coming, like saying “fuck”), but idk, it’s not the trajectory I’m currently seeing.
Anything over 50 pounds for hand weights _that_ size probably is radioactive. A pure lead weight that size might be 30-40 pounds maybe. A stable isotope of iridium might be 80 pounds. But horribly expensive. Nothing over 100 pounds would be safe.
I’m curious if Amazi-Girl and Amber share sexualities. Amber has expressed a preference for men even when propositioned to observe Becky and Dina. Yep. There’s probably a lot of reasons. Some of the ones I’ve heard or personally experienced:
1. Misogyny + internalized homophobia + whatever you call the toxic cocktail of societal conditioning that so often makes sapphic people feel guilty to the point of nauseous over being attracted to women. You feel like you’re objectifying other women. Taking women entirely out of the smut equation helps.
2. Gender identity stuff. A lot of sapphic people run the gamut from gender-nonconforming to transmasc. Butch is a gender identity for a LOT of people. These folks identify more with m/m characters.
3. F/F content is still primarily created by and for straight men, and that can make it very alienating for sapphic people. (This is not a criticism of straight men for making porn they like, I don’t care about that, it’s not a real problem.)
Meanwhile, M/M content is primarily made by and for queer people. The gay porn industry is by and for gay men, m/m erotica is by a broader range of people (plenty of whom are transmasc, for the record).
Queer content that comes from someone like you is a lot more relatable, whoever “you” might be, so folks tend to seek it out.
Even if we assumed Amber was queer because she had queer friends, which I personally wouldn’t do, I’d probably assume gender related stuff before sexuality related stuff

That’s not how I read the posts they’ve made with unused comics at all.
They did use the phrase “murdered in its crib” about Joe/Joyce, but that version of events has Joe explicitly offer to step aside for Dorothy and Dorothy turn him down. It’s a version of events where Willis wanted to keep the status quo, which was teasing Dorothy/Joyce but keeping it ambiguous.
I don’t think “murdered” or “blown up” (by a Dorothy drama bomb) necessarily meant the Joe/Joyce relationship ENDED, just irrevocably altered, before they’d even had a nice dinner together.
It’s still possible that we’ll get something someday where Joe is actually worried about corrupting Joyce, because Joyce has changed a lot since they started dating (mostly in superficial ways or in ways that were a long time coming, like saying “fuck”), but idk, it’s not the trajectory I’m currently seeing.

I’m curious if Amazi-Girl and Amber share sexualities. Amber has expressed a preference for men even when propositioned to observe Becky and Dina. AG did date Danny, but their personalities have diverged much more since then. It would be interesting to get an update on where she stands. Amazi-Girl is so stoic and vigilant of herself and others that even an argument for ace would be believable to me.
I always viewed amber as ‘probably queer’ because I’ve never met a ‘token straight’ friend with a bunch of queer friends who was actually straight. Birds of a feather, to an extent.
