Hmmm there are a few comments on here that make me think people don’t really get Roz’s character. She is about freeing women from their gender roles, with the sexual freedom side being her priority. I guarantee if she knew Joyce almost got raped she would be livid. Also, unless you really dig, you hardly ever know what caused a college party fight. Not everyone is omnipotent.

Ammonia to the face is never good. Oh, wait, that’s my squirt bottle for when I ride my bicycle… bleach? No, that’s for my dishes… liquid plant food? herbicide? *gets whispered to* Water? Who puts just plain ol’ water into a spray bottle?
And apparently Dorothy has mood lips. At the beginning of the strip they were a pinkish color. But shortly after she broke up with Danny, they turned this weird chocolate brown color. But since swapping spit with Walky, they’ve become this nice dusty rose color that makes her look better.
I’d say it was lipstick, but it’s sort of a gradual thing. So, mood lips.
It’s the same artwork, just shrunk. You can tell not just by that, but by the relative distance between the top of Joyce’s head and the top panel border in each one.
I think that’s just a trick of the shading. The shadow on Joyce in panel 5 is different from in panel 2. I don’t know if that explains it all, though. It could just be shrunk like others have pointed out above.
It seems to be identical in most regards, size included, but there are some minor differences. I superimposed one over the other and changed opacity to 50% and the breasts and the coloring/shading were different, but otherwise, everything lines up the same on both. The lineart on everything but the breasts is the same, but the coloring is unique between them.
I’m willing to give her the first one, but carrying on about the dumb fight really reduces the sympathy available to her. I think Dotty’s agape face and Joyce’s death glare are enough to indicate to most people that you just said something back.

Roz strikes me as the type of person who doesn’t give a flying butt taco about anyone else’s feelings or opinions, but by God, you’d better respect HER right to live HER life HER way!
To me, that just doesn’t jive with the Roz who is handing out condoms, urging people to have protected sex, and talking about owning your sexuality. I think she would be very much opposed to the idea of someone taking away your ability to consent or trying to have sex with you against your wishes.
But it does jive with SP! Roz, who stalked and harassed a guy who’d turned her down until he finally gave in and slept with her. Roz is the kind of sextivist who thinks everyone should be having lots of safe, happy sex; someone who doesn’t want to have sex for reason Roz thinks are BS (religion, sex addiction, etc) isn’t going to find much support from her.
But Roz never drugged him to have her way. She may not support someone’s moral reasons for abstaining, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she supports taking away their right to choose. Roz doesn’t believe in sexual addiction, so the way she sees it, Jacob freely chose to have sex with her.
That aside Willis has stated that DoA is not SP. This Roz is not that Roz. You can’t judge DoA Roz based on SP Roz’s actions.
That would probably require some sort of registration and login based board software, so DO NOT WANT.

It was so nice to have a sexually active female character who stood up for herself so well about it. It would suck to have that go along with promoting rape culture.
I am thinking Roz didn’t realize that Joyce was being sexually assaulted, rather she assuming two idiots got into a fist fight, as she was probably elsewhere when it happened.
Considering Roz’s general political philosophy, I doubt she’d condone sexual assault. Then again, in Sp!, she denied the existence of sex addiction, so who knows. People’s politics aren’t always internally consistent.
Perhaps this will be their chance to share a common view. Roz can admit that not all sex is good, and Joyce can admit that not all feminism is about hating housewives.
I know that she is probably (and understandably) about to flip out on Roz in the next comic or two, but I am getting a kick out of her facial expression in this one.

Agreed. I can understand of being willfully ignorant a a fight at a party. As per my experience I do not investigate the motive of the fight and the persons involved in the fight. All I would register in such a situation is that some kids got into a fight bringing the mood of the party down.
Unless she knew about the whole thing and is asking them as a part of her character trait. That would put her in the running for Amiza-girl arch enemy “Super B*Word”.
Well, to be fair, she might not even be referring to Ryan’s attack on Joyce. Before that, in the background, you can see Amazi-Girl beating up the football players who, even earlier than that, tried to beat Danny up.
Terah, you are absolutely right! And honestly, do you expect everyone at one big party to know about every fight that happens? Also, didn’t they kind of agree not to tell anyone, therefore the story of the rape attempt wouldn’t have gotten far amongst peers.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know, but I also wouldn’t put it past being a twist that Roz heard about it, and decided that it wasn’t rape, just overprotective busybodies keeping Joyce from having “fun.”

I think there are some ways–it’s called being a naive self-absorbed idiot. However if a character who is so strongly in favour in people being able to do whatever they want with their bodies, (which includes the right to say no,) turns out to not see the big deal or whatever in this case… well, I’m gonna be more than a little disappointed.

So nobody’s actually addressed why exactly Joyce is glaring. Is it because she knows Dorothy wants to tell Roz what happened, and doesn’t want word to get out? Is the reason Dorothy hasn’t actually said anything, despite her open mouth, because she can feel Joyce’s glare on the back of her head?
That’s how I read it, but I wouldn’t put it beyond the realm of possibility that Joyce could start telling Roz all about it tomorrow.
Due to the fact that Roz clearly didn’t bother to find out what that fight was about and assumed it was a drunken fight and not an attempted rape situation, I’m not going to get too pissed off at her here (yet). But still… the insensitivity of the comment really hurts.
A drunken fight is also nothing to dismiss lightly. People have DIED from drunken fights, and weapons don’t even need to be involved. (Don’t get me wrong though. I’m more miffed at Roz than you. )
Yes, that’s true, but drunk fights are usually over misunderstandings or stupid over-reactions that results in one or both parties with a few bruised faces or egos. Their are of course exceptions, but its usually not someone’s intent to go out drink and then to kill someone or hurt someone.
Rape on the other hand is more often than not, the result of someone having a predatory agenda to perform get sex by any means, regardless of anyone else.
So in-comparison, a “dumb drunk fight” that didn’t result in death or extreme injuries (which Roz, I believe, seems to be implying) is much easier to dismiss as a minor annoyance, in comparison to rape.
She might not be referring to the attempted rape at all. There was a fight involving some guys shortly before Joyce went off with Ryan. Roz might mistakenly be assuming that it was this fight that flattened the party.

I figured she just thought it was an escalation of the fight that broke out just before Joyce went off with Ryan. She walked by just as that fight broke out and later we see Amazi-Girl getting in the middle of it. That and you don’t see Roz anywhere in the crowd that formed around Joyce and co. after Sarah smacked down Ryan, so the odds are she was no where near where it went down. She probably saw a crowd and heard commotion and was uninterested in what was likely, to her, some drunk guys going at it. Can’t really be mad at her for not wanting to mob up and watch people fight.
I can’t remember if Roz was the one throwing the party; if she was, then she SHOULD know what happened. Well, hopefully. If it wasn’t her party, then, yeah, I can see where she might have missed the details of what happened.

I am thinking Roz didn’t realize that Joyce was being sexually assaulted, rather she assuming two idiots got into a fist fight, as she was probably elsewhere when it happened.
Considering Roz’s general political philosophy, I doubt she’d condone sexual assault. Then again, in Sp!, she denied the existence of sex addiction, so who knows. People’s politics aren’t always internally consistent.
Perhaps this will be their chance to share a common view. Roz can admit that not all sex is good, and Joyce can admit that not all feminism is about hating housewives.
I think Roz’s sheer apathy or lack observational skills may have just now caused Dorothy have an stroke or aneurysm.

Agreed. I can understand of being willfully ignorant a a fight at a party. As per my experience I do not investigate the motive of the fight and the persons involved in the fight. All I would register in such a situation is that some kids got into a fight bringing the mood of the party down.

However if a character who is so strongly in favour in people being able to do whatever they want with their bodies, (which includes the right to say no,) turns out to not see the big deal or whatever in this case… well, I’m gonna be more than a little disappointed.

So nobody’s actually addressed why exactly Joyce is glaring. Is it because she knows Dorothy wants to tell Roz what happened, and doesn’t want word to get out? Is the reason Dorothy hasn’t actually said anything, despite her open mouth, because she can feel Joyce’s glare on the back of her head?
That’s how I read it, but I wouldn’t put it beyond the realm of possibility that Joyce could start telling Roz all about it tomorrow.

Due to the fact that Roz clearly didn’t bother to find out what that fight was about and assumed it was a drunken fight and not an attempted rape situation, I’m not going to get too pissed off at her here (yet). But still… the insensitivity of the comment really hurts.
A drunken fight is also nothing to dismiss lightly. People have DIED from drunken fights, and weapons don’t even need to be involved. (Don’t get me wrong though. I’m more miffed at Roz than you.

Yes, that’s true, but drunk fights are usually over misunderstandings or stupid over-reactions that results in one or both parties with a few bruised faces or egos. Their are of course exceptions, but its usually not someone’s intent to go out drink and then to kill someone or hurt someone.
Rape on the other hand is more often than not, the result of someone having a predatory agenda to perform get sex by any means, regardless of anyone else.
So in-comparison, a “dumb drunk fight” that didn’t result in death or extreme injuries (which Roz, I believe, seems to be implying) is much easier to dismiss as a minor annoyance, in comparison to rape.
She might not be referring to the attempted rape at all. There was a fight involving some guys shortly before Joyce went off with Ryan. Roz might mistakenly be assuming that it was this fight that flattened the party.

Folks, let’s be rational here. We don’t have all the facts yet. She might not know what happened other than some vague details about a fight. I don’t like Roz that much either, but if I’m gonna get worked up into a frenzy it has be with just cause.

I figured she just thought it was an escalation of the fight that broke out just before Joyce went off with Ryan. She walked by just as that fight broke out and later we see Amazi-Girl getting in the middle of it. That and you don’t see Roz anywhere in the crowd that formed around Joyce and co. after Sarah smacked down Ryan, so the odds are she was no where near where it went down. She probably saw a crowd and heard commotion and was uninterested in what was likely, to her, some drunk guys going at it. Can’t really be mad at her for not wanting to mob up and watch people fight.
More specifically she was probably off having sex, and only heard about it third hand.
