In assuming that something was “wrong” with Danny instead of inferring that Dorothy “screwed it up”, that has to be the nicest thing Mike’s ever said to her.
Generally, admitting to doing the dumping (as opposed to the more neutral “we broke up”) implies that you were the sole party wanting out of the relationship. At the very least, it means you took initiative, which translates to some level of dissatisfaction.
Brain, what are you still doing in here? There are two brains out at the Super 8 shacking it up and in desperate need of a brain-whore! Now get out there and make me some money!
Withholding information from Mike is not sufficient defense. As his plans unfold, you will realize they could have been averted by telling him the information you did not tell him. But then it will be too late.
I think we’ve all established that DOA!Mike is not as much of a memetic asshole as Walkyverse!Mike, so… damn, this guy might actually be a straight-up sociopath. Like, the unfunny kind. Like, the kind I met once in high school. The kind that drives everyone he knows away from him and then laughs about it.
Before, it was funny, because everything he said was something they needed to hear, but now it seems like he’s just trying to ruin people for the hell of it regardless of how much they “deserve” it.
At the risk of breaking the Tupperware seal of DOA and/or being a hipster, I’ve hated the character of Mike since the Its Walky! days.
I like that the other characters in DOA seem to recognize that Mike is a completely toxic individual and show a generally decreased tolerance for cartoonish horribleness. It would please me to see him get comeuppances for being such a jerk to everyone. Lots and lots of comeuppances. The most.
I just love that Dorothy seems to think that she’s immune from any sort of explanation of her bullshit and see it come back to bite her in the ass in the form of Mike. Really, Dorothy… scheming to have your current boy toy swipe the shoes from your ex-boyfriend… what did you THINK was gonna happen!?
I’m sorry, but I fail to see a woman choosing to finish a relationship and then choosing to start another as “bullshit”. Am I missing something?
I thought she broke up with Danny for his own good (at least partly) and she started a relationship with Walky because she knows he won’t be as emotionally demanding.
The bullshit is where she concocted a plan to go ask Joe to steal a pair of her ex’s shoes for her new boyfriend to borrow, hopefully to be returned before they were missed.
And before you claim that Dorothy asked Walky to ask Joe to explain the situation and ask Danny to lend his shoes to Joe to lend to Walky because he’s Dorothy’s new squeeze, explain this: if Dorothy didn’t think she were doing something wrong, why is she hiding?
Because the point is for Danny to not have to see her. She doesn’t want to cause pain.
Also, I think the plan is to ask Joe to ask Danny to borrow them. Danny’s pretty accommodating so swiping stuff isn’t necessary, and Dorothy knows this.
Why was she dating a guy in the first place that she didn’t think was worth sticking with through college? If she really cared about him and his future, why not plan ahead and spare him the heartbreak, if he wasn’t good enough for her and her big dreams anyway?
The problem is she believes she’s too good for other people. Too good for Danny, and unless Walky does what she wants, occasionally too good for Walky. And if that’s really the case, she should spare other people the heartbreak and not date them until she knows they match up with her life goals. Checklist first, kissies later.
It’s perfectly possible to become good friends with a cute guy you like without leading him on and breaking his heart. Not a fan of people who string other people along because of ‘cuteness’ and then drop them because they never fit into your life goals to begin with. Either tell the guy he doesn’t have a chance, and leave it at that, or love him, and stick with that. Enough games.
a) This is a web-comic, in-perfect logic creates drama.
b) I assume she was happy with Danny at the time, but over time realised just how over clingy he was in a relationship and didn’t want him to ruin his life
c) Walky has said he only likes her and wouldn’t do a Danny if she left for Yale. So he does fit her life goals in the short term.
This is simply a bad idea from beginning to end. Adding Mike is overkill but necessary. Also it seems like less comment today. Maybe everyone expect a spectacular train wreck in the next comic.
Walky has also been Mike’d, and he used Dorothy for that purpose.
Dorothy is about to be Mike’d, and Mike will be using Walky to make it happen. Though yes, Dorothy has it coming. I generally like her as a character, but her plan here is rather low.
I wonder though, when will Billie be sufficiently Mike’d?
When Billie gets Mike’d, expect an attempted suicide storyline to follow. Forget embarrassing her or breaking her up with someone or beating her up; her entire worldview and sense of personal worth is so overtly fragile that it practically has a bull’s eye painted on it.
Agreed. It’s the death toll in dating. You know at that point either you’re in the friend zone, or that she at least subconsciously feels that way about you, and not in the sexy fun times way that you had hoped.
The expression is “give somebody enough rope to hang themselves,” meaning that you let someone do what they want to do while knowing it’ll get them in trouble.
Mike isn’t quite using the expression in the usual way; he’s decided to take matters (and the proverbial rope) into his own hands. But that’s Mike.
John Redcorn was pretty much the only contemporary Native representation I had in comedy growing up. Probably the funniest Native character in cartoon history and a lot of that was on Jonathan Joss' pitch perfect rezzy uncle performance. RIP to one of the best to ever do it.
today in #9chickweedlane i learned that, yes, lolly is so edda 2.0 that she's even wearing her mother's wedding dress as she gets married to Her Dad (But Taller)

the big disconnect that happens here is between the correct message for D politicians (especially in red states), which is “you’re right, this isn’t who you are, you’re better than that, vote differently next time”
and the actual truth, which is yes you did, fuck you
Raw milk has the opportunity to do the funniest thing
Ferric Fang@fangferric.bsky.social ⋅ 3d
RFK Jr celebrated the release of the MAHA report by downing raw milk shooters in the White House with influencer Paul Saladino. Hazards of raw milk include Listeria, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Yersinia, E. coli O157:H7, and now-- avian flu.
"ESPECIALLY willa!"
"dad, has it come to mind yet that if i was correct, actually, about belle being cuckoo for murderpuffs, that she was in fact trying to kill me, your human daughter, all this time"
"sorry, still only really care about the fish"
Oh Mike… you so perfect!
In assuming that something was “wrong” with Danny instead of inferring that Dorothy “screwed it up”, that has to be the nicest thing Mike’s ever said to her.
He was fishing.
…and he caught one THIS BIG.

saw three sentences to Mike, he will destroy you
say not saw, brain get in body
Brain no want in your body. Hence why it left to begin with.
What I’m saying is, clean up a bit in there, and maybe it will want to come back. Until then, it has a room at the Super 8.
Wait, a Super 8 is better than my body? I’d be hurt, if my diet wasn’t based on convenience.
From now on when Mike asks you a question, plead the fifth.
Why is this a reply? It wasn’t supposed to be.
Cause your brain is currently shacking it up with Eposi’s brain at the Super 8
Brain, what are you still doing in here? There are two brains out at the Super 8 shacking it up and in desperate need of a brain-whore! Now get out there and make me some money!
Brain money?
Well, they have to eat brain food.
At least they don’t fart.
@AckAckAck
I beg to differ
Candlemike never needs more rope. Also he waits until you’re done with your post to drag you off.
Give an inch.
And Mike will give a nickle.
in the FAAAAAAACE
With his penis.
*Ba-dum tsh*
Wait…Mike’s penis is only an inch long?
This is why you don’t tell Mike anything. At all. Unless you feel like having things revealed you REALLY don’t want revealed.
For instance, how cheap your mom is.
Withholding information from Mike is not sufficient defense. As his plans unfold, you will realize they could have been averted by telling him the information you did not tell him. But then it will be too late.
Toooo laaaaaaaaaate
To apologiiiiiiize.
….I’m sorry, I don’t know where that came from…
That band? With that one song?
You can always lie to Mike.
But if he found out you lie to him, be prepared.
Be sure your teeth and ambitions are bared.
For what?
For the death of the king!
For the death of the king!
Sorry, got an error the first time I tried to post that so I didn’t think it worked
Haha, You’d think she’d know better by now than to tell Mike anything, let alone info about her past relationships
She does know better, that is why she went with the easy route of talking to Mike as opposed to the alternative
YES MIKE! RUIN EVERYTHING!
Ruin, fix, anything can happen when Mike is involved!
If he fixed it would just be to put Walky on a high platform to allow him to be even more crushed when he breaks them up.
Is that a pedestal joke? I don’t even know…
Oh crap, Walky is going to get his ass kicked
…by Danny? Don’t make me laugh.
By Amazi-girl!
But Galasso is nowhere to be seen! It can’t be Amazi-girl!
That Galasso is nowhere to be seen is precisely why it can be Amazi-girl!
Walky is going to get a strongly worded email
And so Dorothy learned that daring is not a factor when dealing with Mike.
This would make some kind of sense to me, except that Dorothy *does* deserve it. (Walky is just collateral damage in this case.)
Aside from Walky, the only other person who leaps to mind as being undeserving of what Mike dished out was Joe.
The most.
Ladies and gentlemen, once again Mike functions as the Plot Catalyst.
Mike IS a Drama Tag.
Karma = Mike.
… oh, god, that’s a HORRIBLE conclusion. >.<;
She was totally asking for this, though. The scheming is bad enough, but going to hide with Mike? And talking to him? That’s just begging for trouble.

Damn that chiselled jaw.
Oh, he dares, Dorothy. He dares.
Where eagles dare.
Oh boy, this is gonna be good.
Oh man, this is gonna be great.
Yay! The Return of Mike!!!!!!!!!
Do it Mike. Just do it…
Just do it. Be like Mike.
Now now, Dorothy. This is your fault. You should’ve known better than to talk to Mike in the first place.
I’m willing to bet Danny takes it extremely well. He’s got Amazi-Girl AND Amber right? Threesome!
Your avatar fit your comment so well, perverted Walky.
Her look is just… precious. XD
This is simply a bad idea from beginning to end. Adding Mike is overkill but necessary. Also it seems like less comment today. Maybe everyone expect a spectacular train wreck in the next comic.
And so begins the Adventures of Dorothy and Mike…
Joe has already been Mike’d.
Walky has also been Mike’d, and he used Dorothy for that purpose.
Dorothy is about to be Mike’d, and Mike will be using Walky to make it happen. Though yes, Dorothy has it coming. I generally like her as a character, but her plan here is rather low.

I think “nice guy” might be the worst compliment in the history of the universe.
Agreed. It’s the death toll in dating. You know at that point either you’re in the friend zone, or that she at least subconsciously feels that way about you, and not in the sexy fun times way that you had hoped.
Rope? I don’t understand the expression.
“Nice Guy.” Who does not respect your dreams. Got it.
Unfortunately not having language for what is wrong with a relationship is super common.
