  1. God, if I have nothing in this world. At least I have Joe/Dina friendship to get me through

    1. I forget, have they ever bonded over both having the same bone shirt?

      1. I thought that was just people in the comments bonding over them having the same bone shirt.

      2. Im pretty sure he was the one to explain to her the sexual connotations of it

        1. No, that was Amber.

      3. At first they had their obligatory Greetings, which somtime later got the upgrade by Dina No longer obligatory. Pure Dina, pure honesty.

        1. Thanks for sharing these strips. Love seeing how Dina/Joe’s friendship has grown throughout the strips ❤

    2. The Dina/Joe friendship has quietly become one of my favorites in the comic as of late. I hope multi-tag searching gets re-implemented because I really wanna dig through the history of that strand in particular. (and also because my archive-ninja skillz are lost without it).

  2. I think Joe is becoming my favorite character

    1. Based on context cues from comments I believe I started reading after Joe’s “shitty person” era because I have a hard time finding reason to dislike him

      1. He started out as a casually misogynist horndog- viewing women for their fuckability first and only. He made a spreadsheet ranking the hotness of the women on campus out of 10. He viewed himself as incapable of doing feelings well and figured if he kept his interactions shallow and horny nobody would ever get hurt. He’s come a hell of a long way since then

        1. “Everything you do matters to somebody, Joe. Everything.” – Joyce

That was the start of his reformation, and it’s been an incredible journey to watch.

        2. aw yuss, growth

    2. Welcome to the club!

    3. “Never alone”, Dinah, in the emotional sense. “Never alone” in the physical sense would drive me batshit crazy as well, totally with you on that one! xD

  3. for reals, last panel Dina is a MOOD
    @~@ TT~TT

  4. Looks like I finally have to set up a proper avatar here.

    1. Replying to see if my avatar changed…

  5. this is very cute. I hope he also helps her clean up (would probably be a brotherly thing to do for Amber too, since he seems to care at least a bit about that sort of thing)

    1. Of course, this would lead to Joe finding that Amber is not in her room, which would then lead to hijinks.

      >:3

      1. Now I want to find out who the Largest Person Dina can sneak, is. Is it Joe? Can she sneak Joe into places? Can she go bigger?

  6. Shoutout to Joe, the guy who everyone really needs right now, honestly.

Even if he can’t fix things for himself he care and he’ll fix them for everyone else. We need more Joes.

  7. A genuine “I can’t fix everything, but I can fix this” moment for Joe

  8. did the upload time change?

    1. Nah, just taking a while for the site’s new bearings to settle in

      1. Meanwhile, here I am, noticing for the first time that Willis has culled his comics sidebar–Something Positive, Girl Genius and Questionable Content, among others, have been dropped. Now, S*P got rid of its comic list awhile ago, but QC still has their link up to DoA.

I’ve been noticing more and more comics ditching the link-list; it’s kind of disappointing to an oldschool webcomic fan, who used to use those lists to find other comics I might like, in the olden days before algorithm-driven suggestions from Webtoon and the like.

        1. And… now I realize the links aren’t gone–they’re just white-on-white if they are ones I’ve clicked on before! Interesting palette choice….

    2. **notes all the comments posted at 3am, with none prior**

Huh. And here I was hoping that all this **gestures around at new comments section which refuses to remember my name and takes me to an error screen after every post while still posting my comment** was going to fix the time drift. Guess not.

      1. Willis said that the time drift actually should be fixed but there have been *other* errors in the meantime.

      2. The drift was fixed, but last night the site kind of blew up and nobody could access a live version of it

At least that was the case before I went to bed at like 2 AM

        1. Ditto.
That is, shortly after midnight, the site was just displaying some message about . . . ?The site has experience a critical failure?, or something like that, and a link to something like ?How to repair your WordPress site? (No memories of the exact wording). And nothing else.

But now it lives. IT LIVES! MUAHAHAHA! ahem

  9. Hmm… Joyce has shown some jealousy in past Joe-Dina interactions. This could lead to drama.

    1. It’d be pretty rich if it did, considering everything

    2. She has? I don’t remember any sort of jealosy there.

      1. Joyce was a little freaked out when Dina was touching Joe’s butt for science.

        1. Gravatar seems to have carried over OK.

  10. She could go there, move it, and be back down the hall before you even knew she was gone.

  11. No. If you look at the Bluesky feed, there was an issue with old site vs. new site. Apparently, links were leading to the old one, which isn’t anymore.

Edit (yes, edit!): This was suppose to be a reply to a question

    1. Edit?
      You’re getting an edit button?
      Cause I’m not.

      1. It should be there for a few minutes after posting. If you can navigate back from the error screen fast enough.

        1. But now it isn’t. It was yesterday.

        2. And now I just got an edit option on another post. I also didn’t get “Page Not Found” when I posted that one.
But it did clear my name and email fields, which these posts didn’t.
Suffice to say, there are still some bugs :)

  12. “You’re never alone” is just so perfect, being said to Dina by Joe.

    *hugs for both*

  13. I love this. Wholesome pairings are what we need right now. Well done eleven months ago Willis, who may be a witch.

  14. I’m glad that Joe and Dina have become good friends. I hope we see lots more strips of them in the future. Also, glad this site is back up.

  15. So, is it always safe to assume the alt-text is about some Transformers?

  16. poor Dina, she just having the worst day of her life rn and has nowhere to feel safe
I wish so bad i could be there to comfort her…

    🥺😖😖😖😭😭😭😭

    1. Seriously, nothing sends my mental stability spiraling harder or faster, than not having a safe and private place to detach or recharge. Not everyone gets how fucking depleting and maddening it can be to have something like this happen, which I guess I’m glad for.

  17. to all the paranoid fellows out there, you are not alone

  18. I can relate to both of them here. Joe throwing himself at helping someone else with their problems to get a break from dealing with his own problems, and Dina’s last line specifically.

  19. Danny’s “there goes Danny, what a good egg” energies have really rubbed off on Joe, huh… I love his attitude here, one of the best things I learned from my dad is that when things suck, you should fix what you can, no matter how small.

    1. I don’t think Danny has rubbed off on Joe – I think ‘good egg’ is what Joe has always been and it’s how he and Danny became friends in the first place when they were little. For a while Joe tried to be someone he’s fundamentally not, and during that time he and Danny grew apart, and are unlikely to really grow back together again because Joe The Robot Horndog was very effective at convincing people, including Danny, that that’s all there was to him.

  20. Man, Joe’s such a sweetheart nowadays. Like genuinely could you imagine the Joe who first came here to do this randomly help a buddy out just because it’s the right thing to do. No strings attached, just to let them know they’re not alone.

Also feel like he may be projecting a tiny amount with that last line. Telling Dina some stuff he himself definitely needs to hear from someone.

    1. Yes, but only if that buddy had been a guy.

      1. Even then not if it involved emotions.

  21. That’s what this world needs more than anything is people willing to step up.

  22. “Not Alone” from Final Fantasy IX starts playing in my head.

    1. …And there it goes in mine. TY <3

      1. I’m thinking of “I Cried Out”, a religious song I only know of because of an AMV that ignores the context.

        1. Slartibeast Button, BIA

People are saying there is a temporary edit button, but I can’t find it. Still getting an error page after commenting and no name/email retention.

        2. I’m getting it at least sometimes. It came and went this morning, but was there on my last post.
Not saving the name, but also not getting the error page.

          Editable this time.

  23. Good on you, Joe.

  24. “If I were never alone, I would likely go insane”, the song Air Supply should have written.

  25. i’m really loving how joe is taking care of dina :’) it’s not because he thinks she can’t deal with what’s happening, but because he really, actually cares

  26. i mean despite it being large i’d assume with the stuffing it wouldn’t be too heavy/maybe half the weight of a standard mattress? but woo more bonding

    1. yeah and like

never judge somebody’s strength by their size alone :P

      1. I mean it’s not just a matter of strength. With a large and irregularly-shaped object, having long enough arms to get a grip around it makes a significant difference in the ability to effectively apply strength

        1. This! I am short and sometimes have to ask for help because something isn’t heavy – it’s just large and awkward.

      2. yeah we don’t know how becky got it in to the room to begin with but i guess it’s more about emotional support than physically moving it since she was overhwelemd enough to leave her room

  27. I like Joe’s “I can’t help me, but I can help you with this” energy. Its good that he’s a good egg, past problems aside.

Its what us Cis-Straight-White-Enough-At-A-Glance Men should be doing in these times, helping how we can.

  28. The wholesomeness is much welcome.

-wait, the new system allows for editing? That’s awesome!!! :D

  29. Has the comment section been ruptured? Am I left behind? Is this the beginning of DINAJOE?

    1. Dinjoe. Sounds more like ninja.

      1. It’s closer to Dingo. Which is also cool.

  30. Dina: “Joe, I mean it. You do not need to go out of your way to help me, I will be fine.”
Joe: “Bullshit. You’re clearly out of spoons and I want to help you.”
    Dina: “Because we are friends?”
    Joe: “Because we are friends.”
Dina: “And because you are a big spoon?”
Joe: “Please don’t phrase it like that.”
Alt text: “Dina has no idea what cutlery has to do with her current situation, but she’ll roll with it as a learning opportunity.”

    1. Hey now, we know that Dina canonically knows what spooning is. She’s even called herself the big spoon at one point.

      1. Oh, she knows exactly what she said.

  31. Honestly, I’m just grateful the cops didn’t slash it open to check inside.

    1. That would expose them to legal action for property destruction. Depending on their lack-of-warrant status or not, it could get bad for them. At least, in their world. In ours today…welp.

      1. Even Willis has his limits for how sad they’re willing to make their audience.

  32. Good Joe. Best friend

  33. To think we were all worried months ago when we got the preview of the angry Joe panel.

  34. alt text on this one is very good. 10/10 no notes

  35. Is there still a way to read alt text on the phone?

    1. Press and hold on the comic itself.

      1. This isn’t working for me. It just starts moving the comic around the screen. :(

        1. “but not venomed or chopshopped”
Judging from earlier comments, that seems to be a Transformers reference.

        2. It is. Ransack, Venom, and Chop Shop are all Deluxe Insecticons.

        3. Instead of transforming to vehicles, they transform to insects?

  36. Panel 4 Joe is not talking to only Dina, methinks.

  37. Speaking as an autistic person, I could use a Joe. Someone to remind me that I’m not alone.

  38. I like these two, but I’m not sure Joe is communicating what he wants to very well.

I remember seeing panel 3 in the previews and being pretty sure Joe striding off angrily would have something to do with Joyce. I certainly did not expect it would relate to Dina’s raptor.

    1. The preview panel was an out of context panel that had no dialogue. Whereas here, with the context of their conversation, the reader can reasonably interpret that panel as “Joe is walking away in a fairly determined and driven fashion. Dina watches him leave with a bit of concern.” which is backed up by the dialogue.

    2. Well, Joe’s made it clear he doesn’t feel like he CAN be angry about Joyce, even if he wanted to be (which is itself debatable), but THIS he can be safely angry about AND do something immediately to fix.

  39. I am loving the Joe and Dina friendship.

  40. Seduce her Joe. She is free for the wooing. And it’d be funny.

  41. Well, the Dreaded Panel is here and it’s Joe stalking off to take action on behalf of Dina while Dina is unsure if it will help, but appearing to be touched. Big relief, not sure I could take it if Joe took out his Joyce-related anguish on Dina.

  42. Now we just need the SS Jona to set sail, and Dina to ruin Joe for other women.

  43. When’s the Slipshine?

  44. Joe’s going to be a freaking amazing boyfriend for someone if he gets the chance.

For now, he’s just a way better friend than most people give him credit for.

    1. I have revised previous ships and now call for the Joe/Dina/Sarah ship to launch.

  45. Woah new UI
Also hell yeah to Joe & Dina friendship

  46. i’m kind of rooting for them to get together now if only just because it would be the most outrageous possible next thing to happen

  47. A lot of conflict in this strip is driven by people not having an actual frank and open conversation but it’s starting to feel a little obnoxious in this case. What exactly is stopping Dina and Becky from talking and working to process Becky’s baggage? It feels overwrought and contrived in a way that I don’t usually feel about the drama in this strip.

    1. I guess what I’m really annoyed by is that both Becky and Dina are taking it as an article of faith that they are definitively split up, and Joe is the only one pushing back against this idea and his entire argument seems to amount to “nuh-uh.”

      1. I think it’s a given that Joe is both maybe not armed with the standard of evidence that Dina would be comfortable with, and likewise not quite in the right mindset to do this justice even though he’s making an effort.

      2. It’s been … wow, this is much harder to figure out on the new site … probably less than 24 hours since That Moment. I know I wouldn’t be ready for an actual conversation at this point.

        1. I have never once found arguments regarding how much in-universe time has passed to be convincing.

        2. The exact amount doesn’t really matter, I feel. I could plausibly see them not talking for a few days after an argument like that.

It’s just that because of how this comic is paced and released, even relatively short timespans are going to feel very long.

    2. Mostly that Becky’s in a spiral where she knows Dina will leave her because she’s the problem and no one could ever really love her and not abandon her.

And Dina is not good at reading beneath the surface to realize there’s more going on here than just Becky’s crush on Joyce

  48. Yeah I’m pretty sure Joe’s just going full speed into “fix and help for others, don’t think about yourself, wasting your energy caring about yourself is selfish” mode… It’s like staring into a mirror and I hate it.

    1. I dunno, to me it feels more like “I can’t fix my problems, but I can at least fix this problem.”

  49. Joe is a good friend.

  50. watching these two interact is one of my favorite things, I’m glad we’re getting that this arc!

  51. if this is joe projecting then the poor guy needs a friend (as does dina tbh, just didn’t expect hers to be joe)

  52. Well, a fun new site layout, an exit from Hivemind, and Joe being a mensch. All good eventually.

    *And an EDIT button!

  53. “Ransacked was neither ran or sacked. Discuss.”

opened the door… bag on the floor… everybody strewn the dinosaur

  54. I don’t have a hacked Muzak so please accept this “You’re Not Alone” played on a Sega CDX with some jank cheap portable speakers plugged into the Aux jack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swg2mdxXkOM

  55. Joe is good peeps.
