How did Leslie swing getting banned from campus without being fired?

Two separate processes. All protestors, even staff, were trespassed from campus for one year.
That’s separate from the people that decide job performance and such. Also Leslie likely has a contract. However, IIRC Leslie is an adjunct, which means there’s a strong chance the school will use this incident to not renew her.

My guess: probably an interim ban while the institutional wheels turn or the public attention dies down? Plus Raidah pulled some strings to get them out of prison, could be that also had an impact on Leslie still being employed.

There was some discussion about this when the ban from campus came up when they were released. It also happened in the real-life cases this was based on. It looks like a routine condition of bail – don’t go back to the place you were arrested for protesting at while you’re out on bail.
In the real cases, it seems to have been easily appealed and lifted for students and teachers who had reasons to be there, but left in place for non-students just there for the protest.

My guess for what little it’s worth, the University and the police want everything on an admin basis rather than any legal actions. Detention can only last as long as be needed for processing. Changing the rules after the event starts to make the protest illegal trespass means it won’t meet a habeus challenge. Detaining people who had already left the containment (Joyce) would fail habeus. Deploying counter-snipers means showing a credible threat before the fact and means they don’t want to trigger discovery. They don’t want first amendment challenges, A campus ban is admin, a canceled employment contract involves labor relation laws. The goal is quiet intimidation.
It’s a good bet that Raidah or her contact just whispered “habeus corpus” and the doors flew open.

What’s fucked about the whole banning professors thing (especially for unjust reasons like this one) is how it effects the students who have paid for these classes a d rely on their professors for teaching. But I imagine that the dean and people in charge are more concerned about their donations from war criminals continuing, rather than actually teaching the kids.

From what I looked up about what happened in the protests this was based on, it wasn’t the university but run of the mill conditions for release on bail aimed at preventing protestors from just going right back to it – or having more grounds to hold them on if they do.
Routinely waived when appealed by students from what I can tell (and presumably thus by faculty as well.) Just takes a few days to go through the process and it’s easier doing that once your out rather than fighting it from a jail cell.
