I had a guy I used to work with try to convince me of that. It backfired on him. Later on, a girl drove up through the drive thru with her dad in the other seat, he tried to get me to get her number, I said NO! So he did it instead. The dad looked like he was ready to fly out of his seat and pummel him. I was TICKED at him needless to say! I’m just a normal Christian who would like to get to know someone first as a friend basis before going all hey go out with me.

I really like this one, for some reason. Maybe it’s because panel two finally gets Danny back around to what he’s best at, which is moralizing at people. Bonus points for doing it at Joe, who we all know couldn’t care less.
It raises an interesting question, though, which is why exactly Danny and Joe are best friends. I can’t imagine this is the first time any version of the two had this sort of conversation, and while I can see Danny being patient with Joe’s behavior it’s harder to see Joe not just getting pissed at Danny after a while and ditching him.
On a similar note, I went back and reread my Roomies! volume 1, and now the moping around doesn’t seem as out-of-character as it first appeared. Which leaves us with his completely idiotic behavior back in October as my only real gripe, though given how long he stays attached to Sal after the break-up it does make a degree of sense. I guess I never thought he was that stupid/oblivious about it, though it is an AU so the point’s moot anyway.
I suspect Willis just needed to settle back into a groove, as far as the more “classic” characters were concerned.
I do believe that the question of why those two are best friends has been raised before in Roomies, but then again different people aren’t exactly allergic to each other.
One could also think that Joe is everything (or at least just the part that he’s more socially adept than Danny… If you consider being ‘Joe’ socially adept, that is) Danny wishes to be, but instead of being more like him, he lectures Joe. Because that’s what Danny does. (He’s also aware that it’s not very nice behavior)
Just for the record, I like Danny.
And of course, there’s also the fact that Joe doesn’t only think of banging girls 24/7, he also has his nerdy side. Which brings me another question, has he already decided to major in engineering or will he still have this breakthrough?

You know this becomes hilarious when you realized that both of you got the professor guy as a gravatar.
Yes, the question was raised in Roomies! Redux, and the conclusion they came to was that they have the same taste in movies.
Me and my best friend are as different as night and day as far as basic personality, so I know firsthand that thinking like each other isn’t a prerequisite for being buddies. I just think it’s odd Joe never got sick of Danny, who probably gives him shit all the time about morals and consequences.
I like Danny too. I voted for him on the poll and was quite sad to see that only Sarah was below him. (But not like that, due to yesterday’s strip.)
Joe’s probably already majoring in engineering, as Willis said he didn’t want to rehash old plotlines so he’s probably come to terms with his nerdiness.
And it’s fine, my OP was quite long too.
Old Joe pretty much was random, as far as I could tell, and all about what was easy– hooking up with Sarah made sense for him at the time. It wasn’t until his later involvement with Joyce that he started to show a bit more nuance.
New Joe shows an admirable charm and tactical mind, even if it is given to understatement (“kind of sexually timid?” Yes, like a monk).
It’s kind of beautiful how Joe can be so much smarter than his previous incarnation at this stage of his life, and still walk right into the path of that GIANT TRUCK FULL OF HAMMERS.
I didn’t see Joe as random at all. It wasn’t until after the life-changing event of SEMME that he pondered anything other than ethical hedonism. Joyce was initially the only one who he recognized and was friendly after he went through the traumatic experience of becoming dead to the world. It felt right that he might become interested in her.
Oh! And by the way, how LONG was that thing?

Actually, after rereading the comic, I think Joe’s aiming more of a complete makeover, wardrobe and personality, turning her into the Anti-Joyce, and hoping to Joe her along the way.

His shirt has more than one yellow stripe (it can be clearly seen a couple of strips ago). And even if it did have just the one yellow stripe, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s related to Semme. Semme probably doesn’t even exist in this reality.
Those Semme shirts are popping up very randomly lately….

Just when I think Joe can’t seem any more sleazy, he proves me wrong. And even if he did seem to have some sort of plan to his madness… He honestly comes off as the sort of person who will one day be that creepy guy in a bar with the open shirt and chest hair, trying to pic up girls half his age.
And Danny… is it me or does he not EVER hear when other people are speaking to him. I mean, at what point did Joe say anything about “dating” Sarah. He only asked if Danny was going to “score”. Seems to me that Joe’s made it clear quite often that he’s not trying to help Danny into a new relationship, he’s just trying to get him laid.
Danny doesn’t seem to realize that sex and dating are not always the same thing. One would think after being best friends with Joe, he’d understand that.
I think Danny emphatically doesn’t decouple sex and dating precisely because Joe DOES. He doesn’t have to mention this and jumps to the end of the argument because they’ve had this argument before.
